@Smurfette: It is frustrating when one time they will gobble something up and the next time they won't touch it. How are we supposed to know what they want to eat?

I tried hummus tonight... Bad news. L had an allergic reaction. He broke out in a rash all around his mouth. I thought Id heard it was a common allergen because of pine nuts but my friend is an allergist and she said no, it's either the sesame or the chickpeas. Apparently chickpeas are closely related to peanuts so lots of people who are allergic to peanuts are allergic to them too. We gave him Benadryl and the rash went away. Will call the doctor tomorrow. Very bummed.

@Adira: Those invites are super cute!!
@travellingbee: Poor L, hope he feels better soon.
@Smurfette: Silly babies- I can usually tell how much Austin is liking whatever I'm feeding him by how wide he opens his mouth for a bite. Tonight I was snacking on an oatmeal cream pie and little man comes up and takes a bite when I wasn't paying attention. He then proceeded to try and take another huge bite and bit my finger along with it! hahaha

Hi all! Just popping in quickly before I get to bed in five minutes!

Pete started waking up at 4:00am instead of his usual 5:00am this weekend. Luckily, I was away on my girls' weekend in D.C. so I didn't have to deal with it. But, instead of getting better, it's getting worse. On Sunday/Monday night he woke up at 4:00am again and then last night is was 3:26am. It takes forever to put him back to sleep and I am running on empty at work this week. I was such a grouch to my colleagues this morning from lack of sleep- I'm embarrassed! DH is leaving for a 6 night business trip tomorrow and I'm really hoping we can get him back on track for 5am wake up soon. I need more than 5 hours of sleep to function at work!

@travellingbee: Awe, so sorry to hear about the allergy! At least you have a friend who is an allergist for advice. I hope he outgrows it. Let us know what the ped says when you speak to him/her!

@travellingbee: Poor guy. It is nice that you have a friend who is an allergist though.

@cheesehead: That is funny! Mom I want your food!

@QueensBee: That is just too early. We had another 4:30 morning today. What is with these babies. I hope he sleeps later for you while your hubby is away.

@QueensBee: Oh no!!!!! I wonder what's causing him to wake up so early??? Is he hungry? Gahhh, what a mess!!! I hope you can get him to start sleeping longer!

@QueensBee: Ugh that is terrible! I'm sorry.

We are hopeful that it was just a reaction to the acidity of the lemon in it and not an allergic reaction but I will call the allergist today. Other updates:
Supply is back up. I think part of the problem is that my supply seems to dip DURING AF rather than before it like I've read it should. Anyway, we've back on and I'm pumping 5-6 ounces per session again.
Lukas is sleeping better!! The past two nights he only woke up once! Woo hoo! Last night he slept soundly until 3, woke to eat and passed back out again immediately. He woke again at 7. Yay! If he would keep this up, I'd be a happy mama!

@travellingbee: Great update! Yay for sleep and a good supply! Awesome!

We had a dramatic morning today. Pete finally learned how to opened the cabinets in our kitchen and of course, went straight for the cleaning supplies! (I am browsing amazon for cabinet locks tonight.) I ran over to grab him right away but I saw his hand brush the top of a can "Barman's Helper," which is a product to clean pots, I think. Anyway, I washed his hands right away and then tried to remind myself not to worry. I saw the whole thing and I know he didn't get any near his mouth.

Well, once I got on the subway to get to work, I started panicking and replaying the whole thing over and over. What if one piece of powder had touched his lips and I didn't see it? What if it can be absorbed through the skin into the blood? Should I take him to the hospital to be monitored because of the chance that he touched a poison? I got off the train and immediately called Poison Control!

Of course, they told me that it wasn't a big deal, especially since i washed his hands right away. They said to take him to the hospital if his mouth gets red an irritated or if he starts vomiting. I felt so much better.

So then I called daycare to tell them to watch out for mouth irritation and vomiting. They totally freaked out and I had to sign and fax all this paperwork explaining that this incident happened at home and that he didn't actually swallow any cleaning chemical, but only maybe touched it, and that they aren't liable for anything that happens as a result.

What an ordeal over nothing! But, I'm still glad I called PC. And, like I said, we are locking those cabinets up asap!

On a different note, he slept until 5am today! I hope this lasts a few nights because my husband is away until Monday and I need some sleep!

@travellingbee: That is awesome he is sleeping better!! I hope that it is just the lemon! Glad your supply is back.

@QueensBee: I would have done the same thing! Glad you caught him and got his hand washed right away.

Tonight R was playing and I looked away for a second and then I looked up and she was right near these candles we have by the fireplace. I said no just as she knocked it over and started crying. I don't know how she did it but she scratched her hand up. I think she is might have a bruise
She walked all over the house with her walker tonight. She was smiling the whole time. So cute!

@travellingbee: Hopefully his good sleep keeps up! It must he feeling good to get some sleep yourself.

@QueensBee: That is scary, good thing you saw him. I would have made that call too for a peace of mind. Reminds me that I should put the locks I bought on our cabinets.

@Smurfette: They sure can get into trouble fast.

Today Isaac made his way to the diaper bag and pulled the papers out I had tucked in there. Then he got my wallet out, I forgot to zip the bag back up, and was pulling everything out of it. He was so mad when I moved him away to clean up the mess.

@travellingbee: Woohoo sleep and your supply!!!! Mine is back up too, but not completely back to where it used to be. But I'm finally making enough to cover his bottles again, so yay!

@QueensBee: Oh my goodness, what an ordeal!!! I would've been freaking out too!!! Glad you called PC and they didn't sound too concerned! I'm sure Pete will be just fine.

@Smurfette: Awww, poor R. These babies get into trouble so easily now that they are mobile!

@ALV91711: haha, Xander hates it when I clean up the messes he makes too!

4:30 again! I can't take much more of this. Especially since the last two nights he has woken up screaming at 10, just after I get to sleep, and I'm not sure why. Then he wakes up around 2-2:30. Plus his naps have been crappy. Does this baby not need more than 12 hours sleep?

I hope the other babies are sleeping later.

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: 4:30 is too damn early! I'm sorry!! Is there a sleep regression at 9 months we can blame this on??

@QueensBee: Oh that would have scared me too! Glad you were able to talk to PC and that everything seems fine! Good reminder that I need to install the cabinet locks I purchased months ago...

@ALV91711: Eek - so early! We've had some terrible sleep on and off lately. Most night's he's been waking up screaming before midnight and then again sometime early in the morning 3-4ish. Then last night he slept through the night from 7:30 until we had to wake him up at about 6 to get ready for the day. I just have no idea what to expect each night! I am just going to blame it all on teething.

@travellingbee: yay for good sleep and your supply - but too bad about the hummus - hope it's just the lemon!

@cheesehead: Ooh! Oatmeal cream pie sounds good!

  20. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: @dojo: I think it is part sleep regression, part teething. He has been working on his top front for what seems like forever now and they still aren't through.

Today he discovered the shelf with baskets of toys. I usually just have one basket of toys on his play area and change it up every couple days. Now he knows where to go to pull them all off, joy!

Oh my gosh, girls, Xander has conjunctivitis! I had to pick him up from daycare early and now have to give him eye drops four times a day. I'm PRAYING I don't get it because I get EVERYTHING he has, haha.

  23. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: I think it's pink eye!!!! I have no idea how he got it but it's apparently VERY contagious! And no, he's not allowed back to daycare tomorrow!!! LUCKILY, I have the day off already.

It is like he can sense when I fall asleep and must wake me up! I came to bed early tonight and just after I fell asleep he wakes up fussing, just after 9pm. Then when no one went to get him he freaked. I made DH go and check him and calm him and turn on his glow worm. All is quiet now but we will see what happens when the music stops.

@Adira: oh no! Hope he gets better over the weekend and that you don't get it!

@ALV91711: Oh that is the worst! I hate when I go to crawl into bed and then I hear Liam stirring then he will cry a bit and I will stare at the monitor waiting for him to fall back asleep and he just doesn't gaaaahhhh.

So... the cabinet locks are installed! And Pete shows no signs of any poison or irritation, phew. Thanks for all the notes reminding me that I'm not crazy for calling poison control!

DH got his big award at work on Wednesday night. He was totally surprised! And, they made the sweetest video of his friends and family which they played in front of everyone. He said he cried when he saw the video, he was so touched. He left yesterday for a 5 day trip to Sundance so I am on solo parenting duty with Pete but my parents and his parents are around this weekend to look at real estate so I have plenty of help.

Pete was such a good boy for me last night. He went to bed at 6:30am and woke up at 6am! He's only done than a handful of times in life. It felt so amazing to get a full night of sleep. Thank you, Peter!

In sad news, we found out yesterday that the 13 month old son of one of our close friends has been in the hospital with bone lesions all over his body. They've ruled out cancer, which is uplifting news, but they are still trying to diagnose the cause. Most likely, he will need a year of chemotherapy. They have LO #2 due this summer. I can't even imagine having to give chemo to a little baby. Of course, I can't stop thinking about it...
    poor little thing.

@ALV91711: They totally know when you're ready to go to sleep! It's like a sixth sense! I hope he slept with little glow worm for the rest of the night.

@Adira: Oh my gosh, pink eye! I've had that too and while it's gunky and gross, it's not uncomfortable or painful at least. Hope you can steer clear of this one!

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: Thanks! I've been trying to be good about washing my hands after holding him and not touching my eyes, but I know I'm going to forget!!

Gahhh, poor baby and sleep!!! I really hope he goes back to sleeping well for you! Mama needs her sleep! How did the rest of the night go?

    @dojo: Thanks!!

@QueensBee: Oh good! I knew all about the gunk, but I wasn't sure how it actually felt to have it! Xander doesn't seem in discomfort, though he does rub at his eyes more. I wasn't sure if maybe it was itchy. Though maybe the gunk is just annoying him. Thanks for the info!

That is sooooooo cool about your husband's award and the video!!! So glad you were able to pull it off and it was a huge surprise for him and that he was thrilled with the results! Yay!!! Big surprises like that are the best!

Which actually reminds me... @Mrs. Blue: weren't you planning a surprise get-away vacation for your husband? Did that ever happen? How'd it go??

@QueensBee: Oh my gosh, how horrible for your friends and their child!!! That's devastating!!! Since they already have an LO on the way, are they thinking about trying to save the cord blood to help their sick baby? I can't even imagine how difficult that must be... it's hard enough when Xander just has a cold, I can't imagine how horrible it must feel to have your child hospitalized and need serious treatment!

@Adira: Pink eye is super contagious, so make sure you wash your hands like crazy and try not to touch your eyes. I'm not sure if it works, but I've heard of people using breastmilk to treat pink eye...something about it having antibacterial properties.

@QueensBee: i'm so sorry about your friend's boy… that has to be so devastating. i get so sad thinking about all the children out there that need to get treated with chemo or undergo some sort of surgery… they're just too young to have to deal with stuff like that. i can't even imagine… esp with #2 on the way.

@Adira: hope xander gets over his pink eye soon and that you don't catch it!
