@jodyblair: Yes! It was the first time he saw it. He missed the other steps.

@Adira: so happy his eyes are clearing up! And I hope you are in the clear if you haven't caught it yet.
@Smurfette: awwe so happy dh was able to see her take some steps.
@mrs.blue: I agree, you will have to plan another getaway weekend! Sorry that it wasn't everything you had hoped but I'm sure dh appreciated such a thoughtful and romantic gesture.
This week, Pete has started dancing every time he hears music, whether he is standing or sitting.! I lovvvvvve seeing his little booty shake. I can't get enough of it. I don't think it will ever get old. So stinkin cute, I can't stand it.
I am seeing a house we are very interested in today. My parents and in-laws are coming with me since dh is away. The house only went on the market on Wednesday and they are taking best and final bids on Monday which means I will have to bid without dh seeing it! If we end up with the winning bid, that will be a story. Anyway, I'm really hoping this could be the one! I was chatting with a coworker yesterday who mentioned that private school acceptance letters for kindergarten go out in early February. So, all the NYC families who don't get accepted to a private school will be moving on to plan B, which is to buy a suburban house in a good school district. That means that our competition is going to increase a whole lot within the month. Eeeek stressed! I hope this house works out.
We haven't heard any more details about our friends baby boy. I assume they're still trying to get a diagnosis. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. And @adira, so smart about the cord blood. I expect the doctors have mentioned it would be smart to keep it. I really hope they find a way to cure the problem that isn't too hard on the baby. I totally get when parents of sick children always say, "I wish it was me instead." So so hard to think of a little LO having to deal with all that.

@Smurfette: Oh my gosh, so cute!!! Your husband must've been thrilled!!
@QueensBee: OMG, dancing!!! Jealous!!! Sometimes I wonder if Xander is doing that because he'll bob his head a bit more of shake a little bit, but it's not obvious, so I'm not sure! And he doesn't always do it.
Good luck on the house!!! I hope it ends up being the one for you!!
And yes, I completely agree about the sentiment that when your baby is sick, you just wish it was you instead. I just can't even imagine how horrible that must be to go through...

So I really think we're out of the wonder week nonsense. Xander's been in a fantastic mood all week! And he's even gone down for bedtime and naps really easily! I'm loving it!!
Also, we started to wean him of his pacifier! He was only using it for naps and at night anyway, so we stopped giving it to him during naps. Apparently he wasn't using it at daycare anyway, so not having it during naps has been easy so far! And I think when he's 11 months, I'll stop giving it to him at night. I'd love for him to be completely weaned of it by 1!!

Gahhhh!!! This whole birthday business is starting to get real!!! I just ordered a bunch of stuff for the party!!!

@QueensBee: That would be such a great story if you bought a house without your DH seeing it! Dancing is so cute. Isaac sometimes bounces up and down when he is sitting, but not all the time. But we do listen to music pretty much all day.
@Smurfette: That is awesome that your DH got to see her take steps!
@Adira: Paci weaning is awesome! Hopefully it goes easy. Isaac never would take one, so we luckily don't have to wean him.
I was talking to DH last night about Isaac's b-day and we will probably have about 6-8 people over. He was all like what are we going to make for dinner. Ummm, nope, we are having them over in the afternoon for cake. Crazy guy!
I wish these teeth would just come in, I can see them right there but they won't cut through. Sleep is just getting worse and worse. I'm so exhausted.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: fingers and toes crossed about the house!! Dancing has to be so cute!!
@Adira: That is great the weaning is going good! Glad the WW is over!! The party is getting real!!
@ALV91711: Sorry about the sleep!!!
So I went to Hobby Lobby and spent $170 (say what!) on craft stuff, decorations, and a couple cake supplies I didn't have. Everything is pink, stars, and glitter!! Once I figure out exactly what I am doing, I will end up returning half I am sure. I always buy way too much!! It is going to be so much fun putting it all together. I can't wait!!!
pomelo / 5621 posts
Isaac stood unassisted today for like 2 seconds. I think it was a total fluke, he was standing at the dishwasher and reached for the other rack with both hands at once, but he didn't fall.
@Smurfette: Sounds like you have a lot of crafting ahead of you!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: How much you spent at Hobby Lobby makes me feel better. I spent $120 already and am definitely not done!! Maybe I won't get him a gift after all the money we spend on the party, haha
@ALV91711: Woohoo standing!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: Then I spent more at Target on plates, napkins. I still need to get silverware and we are going to get one if those helium tanks for balloons since that will be cheaper then buying them filled already.
I think we are getting R and Anywhere chair but DH and I still need to talk
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: I haven't bought plates and napkins yet, so I still have to do that too! Are you renting a helium tank? Where can you do that? I've bought filled balloons before, but it was such a pain to get them home!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: A chair is a good idea for a gift. I have no idea what we are going to get him.
Isaac got a chair for Christmas and loves it. It is the first thing he pulled up on. He can't get in it yet, but that is ok.
Joy! Isaac is going on 40 minutes napping in his crib!! He has been refusing to nap there. Usually his head hits the mattress and he cries/screams. This morning I put him in there and he just snuggled in! Maybe if he naps better he will sleep better at night. I got to enjoy a shower and now a cup of coffee.
Last night he woke up again at 9pm screaming. He was mad! He didn't get back to sleep until 10:30. But then he only woke one time between then and when he got up for the day at 5:15.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: You can buy them for $30-$35 (I think) at a Party
store. I figure if we don't use it all will keep till the next party.
@ALV91711: That is great he is napping in his crib again!! I would give him some Tylenol tonight and see if that helps him sleep longer.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Oh really?? I'll have to look into that! Thanks!
@ALV91711: Here's hoping some good naps will lead to good sleep!!! Xander actually woke up screaming his head off last night too around midnight! I have no idea what was wrong with him. And then more screaming at 5:30 and I had to nurse him back to sleep. Hopefully both our babies sleep better tonight!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: @Adira: an hour and fourty five minute nap. He woke up so happy.
We have been giving him Tylenol or Advil the last few nights because of this, but it hasn't stopped the 9pm screaming. I think he has just been overtired from bad naps plus teething. Hopefully he keeps up the good naps and gets some better night time sleep.
@Adira: it is so terrible when they wake up screaming.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: Woohoo!! That's an awesome nap!! Hopefully he sleeps better tonight because of it!

We have an accepted offer on a house!!!!
I don't want to jinx it, because we haven't even had inspections yet but, this is an exciting first step. The owners are in a rush to get out and they want to close at the end of February! Perfect timing for birthday party planning, haha!
And of course, it's the house that DH hasn't even seen, but his parents both saw it and we all agree that he will love it. He is a big entertainer/cook, and this house has a big kitchen, a gorgeous stone fireplace which is perfect for holiday parties, and an enormous backyard deck with treetop views, so it's great for summer grilling too. It's a tudor, which isn't my favorite style of house, but it feels warm and inviting and homey. I'm just so excited to move in, if this really happens!
Poor Pete has been sick as a dog this weekend. I totally jinxed it because I literally said aloud on Friday, "Wow, it's the dead of January. I can't believe he doesn't have a cold!" What was I thinking?! He woke up Saturday morning with his first fever and a terrible cough. Typical. He hardly has any appetite (and he's usually such a piggy!) but he has been drinking lots of water and having wet diapers. I will probably call the pediatrician tomorrow to check in, if it hasn't improved. It's so hard to watch them feel crummy, especially when they are tired and want to sleep, but can't get comfortable.
In the meantime, he has finally started using his walker this weekend. He can't go very far without getting stuck because our apartment isn't that big and he doesn't know how to turn or back up, but I just love seeing him walk around with it. Such a goof!
Okay, going to read all the posts I've missed this weekend to see what everyone else has been up to.
pear / 1718 posts
@Adira: Wow, you are smart to wean from the pacifier now! Xander is such a mellow and happy baby, I bet he will adjust in no time. I have a feeling Pete will be one of those babies who still has a pacifier at two and we are going to have bribe him to trade it in to the "pacifier fairy" or something.... He is a total addict.
@Smurfette: I love all your party inspiration pics from the other thread. Let us know how your crafts come out! A trip to Hobby Lobby sounds so fun. Glitter makes everything better!
@ALV91711: 1 hr 45 min is such a great nap length! It's the best feeling in the world when they wake up happy and rested, and then mom and dad are happy and rested too! Win, win for everyone.
Your post made me curious about pain relief medications on this board...
Do you all generally give Tylenol, Advil, or Ibuprofen? And, how did you choose one over the others?
I like ibuprofen because it lasts 6-8 hours instead of 4-6, and the recent news stories on all the accidental overdosing of acetaminophen make me nervous. But, my daycare teacher gasped when I mentioned that I sometimes give Pete ibuprofen. She said it's much stronger than Tylenol and that he doesn't need it. My ped didn't seem to have a preference and offers the dosing charts for all infant pain relievers. Any way, just curious about everyone else's thoughts on the choice!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: glitter does make it all better!
We use Tylenol if she feels anyway hot to me. If I just think it is teething pain then I will use Advil
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: I just say your first post. Yay on the house!!! I am sure he will love it. Let us know how the inspection goes. Fingers crossed. Sorry P has is sick. Of course it happens to when DH is gone. Glad that he is using the walked. R pushes it but then gets stuck, can't figure out the turning, so we have to follow her around the house and guide it for her.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@QueensBee: That is so exciting about the house. I really hope that everything goes smoothly and works out!!
We pretty much do the same as @Smurfette: for the tylenol vs advil. Neither seem to make him sleep better/longer though. So we pretty much only give anything for teething pain if he seems really bad or just give him teething tablets.
I hope Pete if feeling better soon, poor guy.
So after his incredible morning nap we couldn't get him to have an afternoon nap. He was sleepy but would not sleep. So I left the boys at home and went shopping for a bit! Nothing exciting, just groceries and the dollar store, but it was nice to get out by myself.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@QueensBee: YAY!!!! Congratulations on the house!!!! Hopefully everything that follows goes smoothly and you're soon moving into your new home!!!
Awww, poor Pete being sick!!! Hopefully he gets over this cold quickly and feels better! And I totally hear you on jinxing. I just said last night after Xander went to bed how he was sleeping so well these days, so of course last night was the night he woke up screaming his head off in the middle of the night! Hopefully we've both learned our lesson about speaking up too soon!
As far as pain meds - we've only used Tylenol... mainly because that's all we've used, haha! It was the only thing he was allowed to take originally and we just never got anything different! Maybe I really should look into the other options...
And yes! I'm thrilled that pacifier weaning is going well so far! And I totally hear you on the addict. My BFF's daughter had her pacifier until she was three! Then they went to Build-a-Bear and made a "Paci-Bear" and the put her favorite pacifier into the bear and she was supposed to have the bear for naps and bed after that. She transitioned pretty easily, but again, that was at age 3. I read somewhere that around 10 months (I think that was the age) was when children start getting really attached to things and so it's easier to get rid of a pacifier or any other "crutch" before then. Obviously we're late to the party, but since we've only ever allowed Xander to have his pacifier for naps and bed, I figure now is a good time to get rid of it, and so far it's going well - he doesn't seem to miss it for naps at least!
@ALV91711: Damn afternoon nap!!!! At least you got to get away from it all, haha. Hopefully he'll still sleep well for you tonight...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: Glad that you got some time by yourself.
We put R to bed at 630 last night cause she was so exhausted, despite really good naps. She must have woken up 10 times last night. We never had to go get her but she was coughing, then crying out in pain, and then talking to herself. But she woke up at 620 for the day. So that was good, at least she slept longer. I am exhausted cause she woke me up all night and then I couldn't get back to sleep. I looked this morning, the teeth (we have been able to feel them for 2 weeks) must be close to breaking through. Her bottom gums are white. Poor baby.
pomelo / 5621 posts
@Smurfette: Even though she woke up a bunch at least she slept longer. I wish these teeth wouldn't take so long to break through.
Last night was much better. He woke up three times but none screaming and he didn't wake up for the day until 6:45am! That was nice.
@Adira: It drives me crazy when you are out and see like 4 year olds with a paci. I'm sure by then you can take it away and they will probably understand.
pear / 1718 posts
@Adira: That story about Build-a-Bear is brilliant yet embarrassing at the same time! Yes, that will definitely be us.
@ALV91711: 6:45am is amazing!! What a champion sleeper last night! Tomorrow is ten months for our little guys, I can't believe it!
@Smurfette: Sorry you guys had a rough night. I had to bring Pete into bed with me at 2:30am. He slept like a log but I got no sleep. Which brings me to my next update...
Just came home from a frantic morning trip to the pediatrician. Pete slept soundly in my bed last night but woke up wheezing and with labored breath. I'm so relieved the ped was in the office today because I was dreading the idea of taking him to urgent care in the city. Oh, I forgot to mention earlier that our car broke down on the way home from house hunting on Saturday, so I was stranded without a car. It was totally fine but I just felt flustered with sick baby, no DH, and no car. I called a car service and we were at the office by 9am. The doc sent us home with antibiotics for an ear infection and a nebulizer with albuterol (spelling?) to help his labored breathing. He absolutely hates the nebulizer and screams bloody murder for the entire time he's under it, which is 7 minutes every 4-6 hours. Siggggh I cannot wait for DH to come home tonight for a little help.
Plus, I have all this house buying stuff to deal with. It's exciting but time consuming to find a lawyer and an inspector today. It's 11am but need some wine...
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@QueensBee: I hope he feels better soon. Poor guy. That treatment doesn't sound fun at all. Why does everything happen when DH is out of town? Every time something happens to our house, it is when mine is gone.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: Aww, poor R and poor you!!! Bummer about the bad sleep! Hopefully that tooth (or teeth?) break through soon and give you both some relief!!
@ALV91711: I think my mom's attitude on pacifiers is the reason Xander's not addicted. My mom is soooooo anti-pacifier and always comments how she HATES seeing them in a baby's mouth, haha. So we just generally only gave it to him when he was sleeping! Of course he's also a thumb sucker so I'm not sure weaning him of the pacifier is going to save his teeth from damage, haha.
@QueensBee: haha, yeah, the Build-a-Bear thing is crazy. And then I guess when she brought her daughter to daycare, she brought "Paci Bear" and said that she was no longer allowed to have a pacifier for her nap, but could have the bear instead. The daycare teachers laughed and said that she hadn't been using a pacifier at daycare anyway!!! Crazy kids!
Awww, poor sick baby!!!! How long does he have to use the nebulizer?? Hopefully only 24 hours or something? What a scary situation, having a sick baby and no car! Glad everything is okay!
pomelo / 5621 posts
@QueensBee: Happy 10 months Peter! I can not believe these boys are 10 months today. Isaac just laughed when I told him!
I hope that Pete is feeling better today. How long do you have to use the nebulizer for?
@Adira: Being a thumb sucker is probably why he isn't addicted to his paci. Isaac is an occasional thumb sucker, he mostly does it when he is teething.
I don't want to jinx it but we have had two nights of better sleeping. And by better I mean not waking up screaming. He is still getting up 2-3 times a night. One time last night I didn't go get him and he was back asleep in a few minutes. My new rule is to only go to him if he is crying, which might be hard but mama needs some sleep and so does baby.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@ALV91711: I think not going to him if he's not crying is a good idea. That's what I do with Xander. Sometimes he'll just talk to himself for a bit and then fall back asleep. Other times he'll cry for 5 minutes and then fall back asleep! So even when crying, I give him 5 minutes before I go see what's up.
Ugh, this morning was a disaster! He woke up crying at 4:45! I waited 5 minutes and then went to get him. Even picking him up didn't calm him down. I wasn't sure if he was teething, so I gave him some Tylenol, but that didn't work either. I finally had to just nurse him!
Also, this has been happening the past few days, where I'll be nursing him on the right side and when I switch him to the left, he starts FREAKING OUT and crying hysterically! To the point where I have to get up, walking around, bounce him, shush him, to get him to calm down, and then once he's calm, I try nursing him on the left again and he's fine. I don't get it! He doesn't do it every time either, maybe once a day... but WTF is going on???
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@ALV91711: I think the crying is a great rule. We do that with R. If she wakes up crying and still crying after 5 mins, we will go get her.
@Adira: I am sorry! It is so hard to figure out what they want/need sometimes. Does he pop off the right side? Or do you move him? Maybe just leave him on the one side?
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Smurfette: He usually pops off and seems "done" with that side. This morning he nursed on the right for 7 minutes, which is more than normal, and wasn't interested in going back on. That's usually my cue to switch sides, but when I did, he started crying!!! After calming him down, I put him back down to nurse on the left and he nursed for 4 minutes, as usual! I have no idea what his issue was!!!
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@Adira: I don't know then, like you always say, babies are weird!!
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@QueensBee: How exciting about the house! Keep us updated! L had to have breathing treatment when he had croup and he HATED it too.
@Adira: You know what's funny? Your terrible night is my great night! LOL! I was just coming on here to say that, fingers crossed, things are going so much better with sleep. He has been sleeping straight through from 7:45-5:00am for the past few nights and I am ecstatic!!! I hope it continues! He wakes at 5 and wants to nurse so I feed him and then he has to cry a bit to fall back asleep. Two nights ago he cried for almost half hour and then fell asleep, but last night it was only about 5 minutes. Of course, I get up at 6 anyway so I haven't been able to go back but getting that uninterrupted chunk to begin with is awesome!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: haha, I know, I totally shouldn't complain! Especially since I was getting up at 5:00 anyway, so he only woke me 15 minutes early! I'm just not used to being woken up from all the screaming!!! I guess I've had it pretty good...
hostess / papaya / 10219 posts
@Adira: Oh waking up early and screaming are never pleasant. I just think the different perspectives are funny. Give me a few months of this and I'll probably be complaining that he isn't sleeping later.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@travellingbee: Oh, I just realized that maybe he's in the 9 month (although a little late) sleep regression that's talked about so much! Maybe that's the cause, haha.
GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts
@travellingbee: I am so glad that things are better. Is he liking the Nanny? Staying healthier?
