@Adira: Yeah it was me. I want to make sure to wish everyone's LO a Happy Birthday! Thanks for going ahead and starting the list for me.

This is R's last first holiday. I might have shed a tear about that.

And just a warning, when they start walking, you can't get a good picture of them standing up...like ever.

@Smurfette: I'm glad you asked - I would've if you hadn't! And I'm sad this is Xander's last first holiday too! I sent him to daycare so he could go to the Valentine's Day party they are having.

Ugh, I can't totally see walking being an issue! I have trouble with Xander now that he's crawling! Taking his monthly photos is next to impossible because he just won't sit still!!! Damn mobile babies!

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: So annoying! She just kept walking towards me. I think I got some good ones on the DSLR but no good ones on my phone. She looks SO cute in her VDay dress though.
I am glad that we have one more monthly picture to take. Those are awful.

  4. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I know what you mean. It's harder for me to take pictures of Xander with my phone too because as soon as I get it out, he just crawls towards me and makes a grab at it! And it's not good enough to be able to capture a non-blurry photo. I think I'll have to use the dSLR more often now. Although that would probably be a good thing if I actually did it.

Hope everyone had a lovely valentine's day. DH and me went on a dinner date pretty lowkey but it was nice spending time just the 2 of us and reconnect
@Smurfette: It just hit me too its LO's last first holiday!! I was talking with my DH what we were dong last year vday with J still cooking inside me and now he is almost one!!!
@Adira: J loves my phone. I just have to take it out and he drops everything and races towards it even though its just black and turned off!!
@QueensBee: Aww thatz so cute hez giving kisses!!
@Mrs. High Heels: love the clapping its so much fun!!

@Adira: How is bath time going?

  7. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Still not great. It probably doesn't help that we only give him a bath twice a week, so he's not really used to it. Though he recovers after the bath a lot quicker now! As soon as I took him out, he was back to smiling. But he's still standing and crying and shaking during the actual bath and I have to be in there with him holding him!

@Smurfette: @Adira: @silver1: I feel you guys about the phone/picture thing! Now I can only get a good pic if he's sitting in his high chair or stroller and strapped in somewhere.

Hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day! We didn't really do much. We met up for lunch and ate at an AYCE korean bbq place, then kept it lowkey at home that night by getting take out Wendy's and watching House of Cards (season 2 just came out, yay!) after we put the kids down.

@Adira: Noelle went through an "I hate bath" phase and she would scream bloody murder and clamor to get out... but it passed after a month or two - thank god it was just a phase. I think she started doing that around the one year mark too!

  10. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Thanks! Sounds like it's fairly normal, so I'm just hoping it passes quickly!! I hate seeing Xander so upset!

Xander can climb stairs now! He just went up a whole flight!

@Adira: yay!! it's been a lot of fun watching J climb stairs... keeps him preoccupied and busy too! he's learned to slide on his belly down the stairs too haha he's such a wild child.

  13. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: exciting! We only have stairs going to our unfinished basement so I have no idea when R will learn.

Someone thinks she doesn't need an afternoon nap:(

  14. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: Xander hasn't figured out how to go down at all yet, but I'm also probably not really letting him figure it out because I'm nervous!

@Smurfette: Awww, bummer about the nap! Hubs is trying to put Xander down for his now and he sounds pretty hyper, so I'm not sure it will work!

  15. Smurfette

@Adira: We tried twice and gave up. We had to come to our condo for something and of course she is passed out so I am sitting in the car with her

  16. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Oh geeze, of course! I'd hate to be stuck in the car though, but at least she's sleeping!

@Adira: Today he was doing the belly maneuver down the stairs, fell back and bonked his head! It happened so quickly I didn't react fast enough. Good thing he fell on carpet and he was only one stair away from the bottom - eek!

J had his first cup of whole milk today and loved it!

  18. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: The first time Xander decided to try going up the stairs, he slipped and fell backwards and bonked his head on the hardwood!!! I really need to get a gate up at the bottom now!

And yay for whole milk!! Go J!!!

Xander actually drank 2 oz of BM from his Zoli tonight! It wasn't with dinner though - it was right before bed while I was reading to him. But progress is progress, right??

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: Isaac just crawls as fast as he can for the camera when I take it out. Makes it hard to get a pic of him doing something cute. I couldn't get a picture of him in his valentine outfit and I tried so many times throughout the day.

@silver1: Sounds like a good night out.

@Mrs. High Heels: Sounds like a nice valentines.

We stayed in and DH cooked me dinner which we ate after Isaac's bedtime. We usually wolf something down before he goes to bed, so it was nice to take our time and talk while eating.

@Adira: I can't believe he is crawling stairs. That just scares me! At the first sign of it the baby gate is going up at the bottom.

Isaac's new trick of the week is standing in his crib when he wakes up. If he wakes up in the night and we want to leave him crying, do we go lay him down every few minutes or just leave him standing? He does know how to get down from standing.

  21. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Mrs. High Heels: glad he loved milk!
    @Adira: progress is always good!
@ALV91711: I would just leave him. He can sit down himself when he gets tired. Otherwise he will figure out he stands up = Mommy comes in.
R stands up when she is done sleeping. She won't even talk/whin/cry at first. Just stands there. I catch her almost morning doing it during the week. Cause I am up so I check the monitor to see when she is stirring.

  22. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: haha, yes, we definitely need to get the baby gate up! I hope to put it up before his party at least because there will be other toddlers here. But making him climb up the stairs is a great way to wear him out! I had him do it before both his naps today and I think it worked well!

I think if Isaac knows how to get back down from standing, then you could probably just leave him (or do whatever you would've done if he wasn't standing).

  23. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

    @Adira: Baby exercise!

@Smurfette: @Adira: Thank you! We let him cry standing and when we did our checks we laid him back down. He's been waking at 10:30 for a few nights now. He is starting to kick this cold, so we are trying to get him to drop this wake up. Last night he cried on and off for 1.5 hours. We have one month to get him down to hopefully STTN, but if not only one wake up would be manageable.

At least he has started sleeping until about 6:30am the last few mornings instead of 5:30.

Is anyone going to do anything special for their LO on their actual birthday? I am think I might get her some balloons or something to decorate a little bit. I have a hand-me down 1 onesie that she is going to wear to school. Saving her party one for the party, I could see her getting paint on it or something. Then I will make sure she gets all her favorite foods for her meals!

@Smurfette: I'm planning on taking the day off and maybe going out to breakfast or lunch with Xander, but other than that, I have no idea! I won't try to feed him the veggies he hates...

  26. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Any progress on regular food?

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Umm... sort of! I found some 3rd foods that are just plain carrots with carrot chunks in them (previously I had only been able to find chunky foods that were a mix and they didn't go over well with Xander). Xander kept spitting out the chunks, but I kept offering them to him and he WAS eating it. He definitely wasn't a fan though, haha. I'm going to try chunky applesauce tonight!

  28. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

Oh, I forgot to mention! It's been a week! Xander's officially off the pacifier!!!

  29. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@Adira: Yay!! On the food and pacifier. He will get it with the food!

  30. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Smurfette: Yeah, I'm trying not to stress about it as much since he will EVENTUALLY eat real food, haha. I'm just going to try to give him something chunky every day since I've been pretty lax about doing it consistently. He doesn't seem overly bothered by chunks - he just automatically spits them out! But he doesn't refuse to keep trying them, so hopefully if I give them to him more often, he'll eventually get the hang of it and then we can move to real foods!

  31. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Smurfette: It will be work and daycare on his birthday, so nothing special. Maybe if my boss loves me I'll be able to sneak out half an hour early even though it will only be my fourth day back! Maybe we'll save the present from us for that day? Since his party is the weekend before I'll let him wear his special shirt to school, which I need to order today.

@Adira: Yay on the paci! That is awesome. And that is good that he is starting to eat the chunky food. I've never seen plain food that is chunky, just interesting mixes that Isaac never likes.

Looks like the 10:30 wake up could be a thing of the past. Last night DH went and put him back to laying down and he was pretty much back asleep by the time DH left his room and didn't make another peep for a couple hours. Now to figure out a plan for the rest of the night.

  32. Smurfette

    GOLD / wonderful coconut / 33402 posts

@ALV91711: R's party is the weekend after her bday. DH is trying to work from home that week. So we can give her gifts on her bday.

  33. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@ALV91711: The brand I found was called Beech-Nut Textures. I'm not sure all the flavors they had, but I ended up buying Carrots, Apples, and Banana Mixed Berry (which is a mix, but he likes this as plain purees, so hopefully the chunky version will go over well too).

And yay for the 10:30 wake-up being in the past! How was the rest of the night??

  34. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: He was up a couple more times. I'm going to see how tonight goes to figure out when he is waking up and then get rid of one more waking. I don't mind once for now.

One month today and I start back at work. This year has gone by crazy fast. I keep thinking about it and it makes me so sad. I wish I could just go back part time, but that is not going to be able to happen right now. I'll have to talk to DH about it, but I hope in the next year or so I could go to part time for a while.

@ALV91711: Wow... I can only imagine how difficult it must be to return to work after a year! I thought it was hard at 12 weeks, but in a way, maybe it's easier to return so quickly!! Cherish every moment of this next month!!!

    Hey everyone!

We've had a busy week and it feels like Pete is learning something new every day! He's babbling so so much now and I love it. I can't wait until I can actually understand what it is that he has to say. He also learned how to make a kissing noise on the way to daycare today. And he's starting to walk more regularly now, although he can only take about 4 solid steps before tumbling over. And finally, when we go, "How big is Peter?" he puts both arms in the air and smiles and we say, "sooo big!"

I am just loving this age.

My husband and I were off work today. We sent him to daycare so we could spend the day taking care of some moving prep. We met a painter at our new house so we could get some estimates on interior paint work. We also need a new car so we spent some time at two dealerships. It felt very productive!

And finally, we visited two daycares in our new neighborhood. It's hard because I just love our current daycare so much. For me, it's the perfect size, the location is great, and the teachers are just so warm and caring. I trust them completely and Pete is so happy there. The two we saw today were... meh. The first one is a new facility but it felt a little sparse and brightly lit. He will seriously never sleep there with overhead fluorescent lights in his face. The teachers in the infant/toddler rooms also seemed to be going through the motions of changing diapers and dangling rattles, but not really smiling or loving the babies. The second place literally felt like a dump. It was in an old house, all the toys looked like there were from the 90s, and the paint on the walls was chipping. It just looked so depressing! Ugh. I was feeling very discouraged.

However, I found out through the neighborhood association that there is a home daycare right on my block. I called the woman who was very friendly over the phone and I am eager to meet her next time we are there. We really only need full-time care for 9 weeks until I am off for the summer so I hope we will feel comfortable with her for that time. Then, I can hopefully find some better options for September.

So anyway, that's the update on our end. I'm going to read through earlier posts to see what you all have been up too now!

(Sorry that was a really long post!)

@ALV91711: that has too be hard going back to work after being at home with I for so long. Enjoy this last month!
@QueensBee: He is changing so much. I love the So Big! He will be walking in no time. I am loving it!!
That is so disappointing about the day cares. Can you keep him where he is at?

@Adira: Wow, so jealous Xander is off the pacifier! That's great! Pete is also obsessed with crawling up the stairs. I think he knows that he gets instant attention from us as soon as he starts speed-crawling to the base of the steps. I've been trying to avoid buying a gate until we move to our new place though.

@ALV91711: Awe, it must be hard to think about returning to work after a year at home. I know that it's different for everyone but... I was dreading my return to work in September. It felt like a dark cloud hanging over my head for the whole month of August. But then, on my first day back, I felt so GOOD. I was shocked but I felt like "me" again! Anyway, I hope you have a similar experience and it's a positive one. I do agree though that part time seems like the perfect balance. I hope you are able to work it out so that you can work part time in the future too.

@Smurfette: We don't have anything super special planned for his actual birthday right now. I will be on spring break then and we will be newly moved. Perhaps we will try to go to the zoo or swimming at an indoor pool as a fun activity, depending on the weather, but probably nothing crazy. I am going to be in shock when it's March 21st. Cannot believe it will have been an entire year since our surprise delivery!

@silver1: Glad you guys had a lovely Valentine's Day!

  39. ALV91711

    pomelo / 5621 posts

@Adira: The one thing I'm glad about is I get one paid day off a month, so I'll be able to keep Isaac home for a day together and hopefully even line it up with our baby group.

@QueensBee: Sounds like a productive day. That would be so hard to have to change daycares, but at least if you hate it then you have the summer to find a better one. Isaac started doing the so big yesterday, this is just the cutest. March 21 is coming fast!

Today when Isaac and I were at our baby group he wanted nothing to do with me. He kept crawling away to get other kids cups or blankets and would be mad when I'd bring him back to our spot in the circle. He is such a determined little guy, if he wants something he will try his hardest to get at it and if we don't let him have something like the remotes or computers he gets so mad.

@Adira: Yay for eating chunky!! I have try that for J. I don't remember seeing in my grocery store, going to check Amazon.
@Smurfette: No plans yet on J's bday, I'm working that day. Thinking I might take the afternoon off and take him to library or gymboree if they have story time or something. I have never yet been to a mommy/baby class and want to try it out.
@ALV91711: Wow that is going to be tough! Hope you can work out going part-time, it would be best of both worlds. I want to go part-time as well in the next year, hoping things line up.
@QueensBee: Aww thatz so cute putting his arms up and walking!! yup LO is getting to be more fun with each day!! hoping this will continue all the way thru toddler years! Yay for moving to your new home hope things go smoothly!! Ugh sorry you had to visit the crappy daycares. hoping the home daycare works out.
