So aside from our anatomy scan yesterday, we also did a dare care tour of the day care we are looking at (my mom will watch one day and I may go back to work 4 days, leaving 3 days of day care), AND I had an OB appt. Phew! I liked the daycare a lot - first, it's on our street, HUGE for Boston; second, it's bilingual - the owner is Peruvian and all of the teachers speak both English and Spanish; second, it feels like a home day care even though it's not. So, we'll probably go with this one. There's a chance we could do a nanny share with our good friends, but they're due 11 weeks after us and the timing would be awkward, plus it seems complicated.

Apparently I really indulged in Christmas cookies because I gained 4 lbs in 2 weeks!!! I had a big lunch before my appt, but still. So much for being nervous about my lack of weight gain!

On my list for January is to look at cribs (my parents are getting one for us) and dressers and to start looking at registry stuff. I feel a little behind in this dept., but hey, still 21 more weeks to go!

    @cvbee: Oooooh. haha,
@winniebee: Yay! Sounds like you are getting things done! I gained 4 lbs over Christmas week, too. Ooops.

@pastemoo: Thanks! I will definitely share pictures of the nursery once we get the steps going! I am excited to get some stuff going! I have also decided to do fabric poms for a mobile above the crib and change table! I am really ready to get into some DIY again!

@winniebee: Sounds like you are really getting ready! I feel a bit behind sometimes, because I am not researching child care and such yet (but I live in Canada so I get a year off to fret about it). I also am not researching pediatricians, because I work with all the ones in our city at the hospital, and could pretty much take my pick.

@MsMini: horray for living in Canada! For the same reason I haven't looked into daycare. When will you look?
Looking forward to seeing your nursery pics one day. Nursery talk makes me want to go and buy everything right now. I know once we get the crib next Friday and it's all together I'm going to want to get the bedding right away. (Doh! I should have gone to pottery barn kids and stuff on boxing day! May have been good deals. Oh well. )

Being on holidays is making me really lazy. First I was staying in bed because I was recovering from the stomach flu, but now I'm just enjoying laying in bed all day just because I can. Next week when DH goes back to work, I promise myself to be productive during the day instead of lazy. I think baby is liking all this lazy time though, as my ab muscles are totally relaxed and he can have a bit more room. (I swear I am twice as big!)

@mom2b2agirl: Woo hoo!! I'm also due May 21.
@MsMini: Again the benefits of working at the hospital I want to hear more horror and joy stories.
    @cvbee: being productive is overrated.

In other news---the bun in the oven is half baked! Woo hoo!

@MsMini: I'm excited to see your nursery, too!

@MsMini/ @cvbee: So jealous of your Canadian benefits! My office offers up to 6 months off, but only 2 months are paid. So, my current thinking is to take 4 months off. Daycares around here book up early and there are waiting lists so we need to enroll soon. Freaky!

@cvbee: LOL re: holiday. I've been off since 12/23 and let me just say I could get used to vacationing! I'm actually being productive around the house today (cleaning and organizing) but on the agenda for later is watching a movie and looking at baby gear online while my husband sleeps (he's just getting home from work).

I have had a growth spurt over the past few weeks too. I feel like my tummy stayed the same between weeks 15-18 but today at 19 weeks, I'm feeling pretty big. And my stomach is peeling, too...yuck.

Yesterday I filled out my maternity wardrobe at Destination Maternity...and then couldn't resist picking up a few things for baby boy winnie. This is going to get dangerous....

@winniebee: Oh boy. That pretty much happened to me, too (the growth spurt). Best of luck with the peeling! Do you have shea butter?
Or... I just got this awesome bar soap with neem oil and shea butter and it helps with the itchy (the type that I usually get before peeling). I have no peeling yet.

@winniebee: Horray for shopping! Oh, and for the belly, try olive oil (that is what my naturopathic doctor told me to use when that time comes (which it hasnt...I'm on the slow and steady growth).

Today I got more productive because DH put together our dresser (which is the same as the other ones in our room but will be for the baby stuff) and it inspired me to organize.

I separated all my clothes into 3 piles: 1)wear now 2) wear in the spring when I'm huge 3) wear after baby is born. I put away all the number 3s, but the #2s in an easy-to-access place, and then re-hung/folded all the #1s. My closet and drawers are so organized! It was tough saying goodbye (for now) to some of my favourite clothes.

And then we put the first baby item into the baby's drawers: socks, bought by great-grandma-to-be. (Plus these handy organizers for within the drawer).

Oh, and I also put in a baby gift for 'someone' having a girl. You see, a month or so ago, I was shopping for a baby shower and I forgot to ask if she was having a girl or a boy. Saw this really cute knitted yellow sweater/hat/pants/booties set with yellow ribbons. Fell in love with the outfit. Turned out the chick was team green so I felt weird giving that to her but I saved it just in case I was going to have a girl. So now it will have to be a baby present for my cousin who is having a girl. But for now it is in our baby drawers.

Lots of room in the baby drawers! Glad I live so far from the city as I would be sooo tempted to fill the drawers NOW.

@pastemoo: I will work on some horror and joy stories, we have been kind of slow this december, so not a lot of exciting stuff has happened. I have some doozies of stories from the past 6 years, but I hesitate to share the worst of them, because not everyone would appreciate them at all!

@cvbee: I am inspired to try some re-organizing as well, our guest room became a bit of a dumping ground for things with no other place, and it will become the baby room, so I have to get it all sorted out.
My dresser drawers also need some going through, to get the stuff I can't wear out of the way, especially since I have gone maternity clothes shopping crazy.
I am kind of sad we can't set up the baby stuff we got this Christmas/post-Christmas yet, but it will just make me get on DH's case to get the rooms downstairs done ASAP!

The last week or so has brought my first feelings of indigestion/heartburn. The thing that surprises me is that it seems to happen when I'm hungry, rather than full.

Got it this afternoon. Tried tea, but it was a cheese and crackers snack with v8 juice that did the trick. I feel much better.

@pastemoo: I should try some TUMS. I've never taken them in my life. Do they taste like candy? It would probably be better for me to eat tums when I feel heartburn rather than chow down on a snack or it will be first trimester weight issues all over again for me. (Which is what happened when I 'cured' my nausea for 3 months by eating a meal every 2 hours).

So I've been delinquent in updating. Had our anatomy scan on the 22nd, and we're expecting a healthy baby BOY!

We were all hoping for a boy. Even our daughter said she wanted a boy (but that may just be because it's easier for her to say boy!).

So we're very excited and it was wonderful to share the news with family over the holiday.

    UPDATE!!!

So, after being extremely bummed with my 20 week ultrasound due to an uncooperative technician and a slightly sleepy baby DH encouraged me to book a 3D ultrasound and.......

    ITS A GIRL!!!

The experience was absolutely amazing, and I truly recommend it to any Mom to be. The 3D/4D picture is amazing and my technician was not only excited, but very thorough and provided me with some incredible pictures.

thanks to everyone being so supportive of me during what was a very emotional appointment last week and congrats to all those who had their anatomy scans done

@cvbee: They taste kind of awful, like chalk, but they work like magic. Just stop taking your calcium supplements if you start taking TUMS.
@mommacommaphd: So happy for you! What exciting news!
@Nskillet: That is awesome. I am so glad! Did you have to pay out of pocket for it? My hubby didn't realize that gender determination is not the reason for the anatomy scan so he was really disappointed. We might go for the 3D scan after our scan this week if they can't determine gender for us.

@winniebee: & @mommacommaphd: & Cvbee, Congrats on your little boys! I was expecting a little wave of Boy announcements!

You all sound like you're getting so organized and prepared! Its making me a little nervous about getting behind. I'm hoping the nesting thing will kick in for me once our fabric arrive and we can start setting up our nursery.

Anyone have any birth dreams so far??? Last night I had a dream that we had our little boy (with a full head of thick dark hair....) but he was adorable. I woke up remembering his face and everything and feeling intense love. Also part of the dream was that the doc tried to bring us a baby girl from the nursery (oops) and my husband telling me he was proud of me for the birth. It felt so real!! Weird.

  27. cvbee

    nectarine / 2039 posts

@winniebee: I have. (TMI alert) My most weirdest one happened on the Christmas break when I was around my Mom's tiny little cat (runt of litter and although 12 years old always seems like a baby to me). This was a 'moment after giving birth' dream, and they put the baby on me and it was a cat!!! But it seemed normal. And then I had to expel some milk from my breast, kindof all over the baby's face. Right away the baby/kitty started licking, so everyone agreed that this was a good sign, and then they took her away again. So weird!!! (I have also had actual in-labour dreams, but it's been a while).

@winniebee: I have all kinds of bizarre dreams but no birth dreams yet. Maybe in a little bit when I'm more excited about everything I'll be dreaming more baby dreams.@cvbee: :)@LAGS: LOL. everyone but meeeeee. I am not organized or ready, but I am usually organized about everything. Hmm

Yes we did have to pay out of pocket for the ultrasound but it was toally worth it to us for the fanastic experience!!

I havent had many labor dreams just yet but my DH did dream of our LO as a girl and her name which is why we're naming her what we are. Abby Marie

@Nskillet: Glad you got the better experience this time! And I LOOOOVE the name!

so,... I *knew* it was a boy. I also *knew* it was twins.

Well... the tech was super nice. And it is a boy. But it is not twins, I'm just gaining too much all on my own. Oops!

    @Pastemoo yay a baby boy!!

Bught our crib, bedding, and some other stuff. My mother is totally nuts about baby girl already and purchased all of those items for us last night in addition to a cute outfit and one outlandishly girly hat,

Can anyone believe we only have 19 more weeks to go?!?!

@pastemoo: Congrats on your boy, hurray for boys : ) I "knew" you weren't having twins, LOL.
@Nskillet: Wow you are making great progress! I have 20 weeks to go, so a little behind you ladies. Thankful for that extra week since we've done no gear or nursery planning ; )

  34. cvbee

    nectarine / 2039 posts

@Nskillet: Although it is only 19 weeks, it feels like a LONG time. I like calling it 4 more months. Count like this: it is January, so we have one month til February, two til March, three til April, and 4 til May! Pregnancy is a long time, if you ask me.

Today I discovered the amazingness of sitting on my exercise ball. Normally I don't sit a lot during my day of teaching, but this big long Christmas break has made me feel uncomfortable sitting on the couch too much. Apparently they are great for us to sit on in the 3rd trimester, and I'm totally bringing it to the birth too. (Reading up on that a little bit today).
I've also resolved to do lots of pelvic tilts on my hands and knees (20-40 reps, 2 or 3 times a day). I did them for the first time today and then all of a sudden I actually had lots of tension around my sacrum. This made me a bit nervous about how potentially unhealthy my ligaments are now and could continue to get.
Because of this, I'm also now really into getting some prenatal massages to keep everything nice and healthy around the pelvis. Haven't booked any yet, but it's in the plans.

  35. winniebee

    hostess / wonderful grape / 20803 posts

@cvbee: Very intersting about the tilts!

I need a better way to sit at my desk all day. Low back = killing me!

    PRENATAL MASSAGE tomorrow....hollah!!

@winniebee: LOL. Thanks. hahahhah.@cvbee: I wish I still had my exercise ball--maybe it's time to buy a new one...@winniebee: Tell me how it goes! I think I should get a prenatal massage, too. But... where do you put your belly when you lie down?

I found this chart that tells you all of the baby's measurements week by week. I'm 22 weeks and it's amazing to think the baby's head is already 8 inches around and it's body is 11 inches long! I measured it out with a tape measure and it's just so unreal that something that big is growing inside me, considering my belly is still so small...

    http://www.gehealthcare.com/usen/patient/ultrasound/timelinegrowth_chart.html

It's a boy here, btw! Seems like everyone I know is having a boy!
