p.s. I am really happy that its for sure going to be a May baby, because I wanted her to have Emerald for a birthstone. LOL! Yes, I am triflin!

I didn't even look what May's birth stone is!

The two sweeps I have had done this time (about to have another, at doc now) and then with #1, yah they're not nice! I have to put my hands on my butt and make fists to prop myself up (I'm laying on back) for doc so they can get in there, and omg the pain. Short term definitely, but owwie! I bled more with DD, haven't really this time.

@cookie_dough: haha yea. I mean I don't think it's going to be fun but I'm not that worried about it. I figure it'll be quick regardless so whatever!

@TwoDogHouse: haha this is just now occurring to you? I try not to think too much about the logistics of it all. Although I had a good chuckle last night because DH and I were talking about how it would be interesting to see how dilated I am at my 40 week appointment. And he's like "how far are you supposed to get again... 100?" I'm like ummm 100cm? really? And he's like... yea? I"m like dear... that is a METER. You could throw a toddler through that without touching the sides. No. 10. 10cm. lol. (Maybe we SHOULD have done birth class.....? hehehe) He was like whatever the metric system is stupid. hah

@Coopersmama: ME TOO!!! lol. I've been a little embarrassed to admit that a little bit. But I really wanted her to have an emerald birth stone. I love emeralds and while Diamonds are nice (April) they don't seem very birth stone-y to me.

@Beebug: I wonder if they offer a shot of tequila before the sweep? I mean at this point what would it hurt... lol (i kid i kid...)

  4. Beebug

@Mae: hahaha I don't know if I take it, but LOL!

  5. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: omg I would lol. I haven't had a drop of alcohol this whole time (which I have to admit I'm slightly proud of.. I totally thought I'd cave and have at least a little wine in the 3rd tri). And I tequila so much. lol. I am not even a big drinker at all (like, several drinks monthly at most), but I just really really enjoy good tequila and I've missed it terribly.

  6. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: in university we had "tequila Tuesday" for $2 shots. My tequila days are loooong done as I had my fair share in those times, lol.

I would love to have a glass of red wine! I had one in January and like 1/8 of a glass in Dec, but I think I am ready for one more glass, lol

  7. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Mae: OMG 100 cm! I guess we can all be relieved we only have to get 10 then. and yes, it's just now dawning on me exactly what's going to happen. I mean, I understand it objectively, but the idea that my body is suddenly going to do it in two days is shocking! Surely I'm not the only one who waited until now to really think this through? Haha.

@Coopersmama: I'm also super excited that mine are May babies not April! I want birthstone jewelry at some point and I'd rather have emerald than the diamond for April!

@Beebug: I always have to prop my butt/hips up on my hands for cervical exams too. I think my petite dr has too small of hands to get all the way back to my cervix or something. Or maybe my vagina is just that cavernous, hard to know.

So my parents were supposed to leave tomorrow from Texas and get to IL late in the evening so they'll be in town for my induction on Friday (even though I keep saying it could take DAYS for this induction). Well my mom just facetimed me from the car and they are on their way. Um, anxious much??

  8. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Beebug: @Mae: I'm too old for liquor these days, but I am dying for a really delicious glass of beer! How soon after birth do you think is appropriate to request one? I mean, if it's Guiness it's good for my milk supply right?

  9. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: "Or maybe my vagina is just that cavernous, hard to know." *snort-laugh* also I'd say it would make an excellent welcome home beverage! I totally plan to have a drink my first night home from the hospital! hah I've already been researching how to drink safely with breastfeeding.

Also, parents are cute They've got to be so excited! Mine are all anxious too and it sort of cracks me up. I feel like they are really being a little over the top because they are only 2 hrs away (prob 3 hours from the time I call if you account for managing the dog) and it is just so unlikely that anything is happening in under 3 hours. But still lol. This text exchange happened yesterday and I was laughing so hard (excuse the weird piecing together, was too long for one screen shot). My mom has been stalking that statue at Pier 1 for months waiting for it to go on sale and it finally did so she was really excited and texted my dad and me:

@mae- your mom is adorable. That is such a fun text.

@beebug, @twodoghouse, @mae- I really would love a cocktail! A really good gin and tonic, or a Margarita. I guess I should start researching how to breastfeed and have a drink, because I cannot wait for a yummy cocktail, and some oysters, and some stinky, soft cheese!

I haven't read thru today's posts so ill have to catch up later. It's been a busy day at the new house and while there isn't furniture yet my baby boy finally has a bedroom!

  13. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: oh and re: not thinking about it until now... I guess I've definitely thought about it logically/medically. I think I'm avoiding thinking about it emotionally. Like letting myself think that the cervix I'm thinking of is mine.. or something.. lol. Although it did occur to me in the shower this morning how odd it is to be hopefully waiting for labor. Like.... I'm so pumped for it to start, which has got to be the only time in life where you're like "Omg I can't wait for pain! yay!!!!!" haha

@Coopersmama: FWIW, from my research, I think I feel comfortable with having 1 drink and breastfeeding 2 hrs later. That seems to be generally accepted as safe. And I rarely want more than 1 drink anyways. So I think my plan will be to wait until right after I'm done with a big feed and have my drink then so I hopefully have 2 hrs until baby is hungry again.

@mrsog: yay new house!!!!! Also I your first baby hehe

@Coopersmama: me too. I already have a ring with emeralds for baby Leo and a sapphire one for big brother. His due date is end of May so I figured I was safe.

@twodoghouse: @Mae: love the anxious parents

I found out after (thank gosh) we had DD that my parents had been in the waiting room since 3am!!! We told both sets of parents we were going to hospital 8pm Friday night and just kept updating as there was something to update. At 6:30am or so the nurse slipped and said my parents were here, and I think my bulging eyes said enough because she immediately knew she slipped and said "but they are just here for support, don't expect to come in" and so I did my best to ignore the thought of them there. I found out after we had DD (just before 8am) they arrived around 3am! My Mom is nuts, haha. She said she wanted to be there "incase I needed her", she acts like the exact opposite way now than how she raised me, and then expects me to want/need her in certain scenarios, it's funny, she means well, ha! I don't think I okay'ed them in our room until 10am or so.

@Coopersmama: About 6w after having DD I know I pumped enough for when I was gone/that evening (I wasn't a regular pumper) and I think at like her 4am feeding or something I bf'ed again. I don't know if it was right or wrong, but I tried to give myself a window, plus one more feeding worth.

@mrsog: Yay for moving!! So glad you have gotten moved, and will hopefully get settled soon!

My doc was SO late, I didn't end up seeing anyone until 45 min after my appt. He sent in a resident I hadn't met before, and while I am not above anyone or whatever, I'm sorry but I don't want to meet a new doctor at 38w. It was annoying, I tried not to be rude answering her Qs, but ugh. His resident who regularly sees me (she see's me whole appt, he comes in last half) is away, and I knew that, but he said it'd just be him this week, so I was semi-annoyed. I lost some lbs again, down to 178lbs, bp was 108/64. Babes was head down, hb sounded great! I got two sweeps and measurements today, resident got to try (I okayed this) and then doc to verify what she had done. So both said more than 2cm, but not 3cm, 75% effaced, but then he said he stretched me to a 3cm. They think I am going to go early, but I was all over saying I was fine with a due date baby or being overdue.

I am now super sore, and very uncomfortable down there, feeling a ton of pressure, and some cramping, my motivation to make dinner is totally gone as I don't want to stand anymore, lol.

My mom and I are cracking up at the drinking while breastfeeding research... lol. She says "what kind of people are in that group?!" haha... ppl just like your daughter mom.

I cannot wait for some dessert wine and sushi. It is all I have been thinking of for... forever! I wonder if sushi also follows that 2 hr rule.

@twodoghouse: Yes exciting weekend for us indeed! I'm wondering when it's gonna stop feeling surreal... I'm afraid I'll get the reality check of my life when this baby is placed in my arms!

  17. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@Beebug: make dinner! wow... I can barely stand long enough to wash a dish. Okay, I exaggerate, but making dinner at this point sounds like a marathon.

  18. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: sorry for the annoying doc appt, but it is sort of exciting that your'e already a bit dilated and effaced! As much as I tell myself that it isn't fully predictive and thats why I've declined checks, I'll admit I'm totally curious. Sort of looking forward to finding out at 40 and hoping I'm at least dilated enough for a sweep.

Also, too funny about your parents. I know I'm going to feel bad for my dad at the hospital but I'm trying to put aside my normal people-pleasing and realize that for this one day, I shouldn't be worried about anyone else's comfort. My mom will be in the labor room with me (most of the time) and I tried to tell my dad he should wait at our house at least until delivery is imminent. There is just no reason for him to sit in the hospital waiting room totally alone for possibly 12+ hours. But he said he wants to be there as moral support for my mom in case she needs him (she is a bit nervous about how she's going to handle seeing me in pain). So I guess that is his prerogative! My DH doesn't want to even tell his parents I'm in labor, just call them after LO is born. So there shouldn't be any pressure on that side of things!

@Glitter: lol responsible people who haven't drank in a very very long time! It'd be worse if I didn't research and just chugged away haha. As for sushi... I didn't know it was restricted at all in breastfeeding? But I don't eat it so I dunno.

  19. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@mrsog: Yay for the new house! Love your dog in there checking out his brother's new place.

@Mae: @Beebug: @Glitter: As far as drinking and breastfeeding, I think I'm going with one drink right after we nurse should be fine, assuming it would be a couple hours until the next session? I think that's what the LC at our BF class implied was ok. However, I have no idea how long it will be before we're into a predictable routine. I want to tandem feed, but for a while I think I might have one or both of them attached to me at all times. Which would be great for getting my supply up! I will also probably start pumping early in between BFing sessions to try to get as much milk as humanly possible. I am just worried that it'll take a while before my body realizes it has two babies relying on it for food! So who knows when I'll really feel comfy having a drink. As for sushi, I didn't think that needed to be restricted while BFing? Not positive on that though. I am worried about caffeine though. I am dying for a real coffee with real caffeine in it, but I don't want all that caffeine to pass to the babies. We'll see how long I can go without it once I'm super sleep deprived maybe...

@Beebug: That's frustrating about your appointment! Sounds like you're making good progress though. Funny about your parents hanging out at the hospital at 3 am. I can sooo see my parents doing that. Although they have a tentative plan to visit the zoo while I am laboring, but I can still see them ending up hanging out at the hospital the rest of the time!

@Glitter: I think it won't be real to me until they place the babies in my arms too! I just keep thinking "I'm going to be a mom? A real one? For the rest of my life??" My mom said if she could do it at 18 when she had my sister, I can do it at 29. But I'm not sure if this is one of those things that get easier with age!

I was super excited to have a drink last time but after I had DS I was so tired and then time was such a blur I probably didn't have a drink for a few weeks and then didn't really enjoy until we got on a more regular schedule like after he was a couple of months old. As for food I don't really think there are any restrictions for bf'ing. And a lactation consultant recommended having a cup if coffee before a morning feed as a way to help baby start differentiating day and night. I think the amount of caffeine that is passed to baby from one cup is really minuscule.

  21. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

Umm I totally bought a bottle of red wine the other day so I could have a glass when labor starts. Our childbirth class instructor recommended it! As for breastfeeding, I've actually heard if you're going to have a drink when LO is nursing every 2-3 hours it's best to have while you are nursing. Not going to make it into the milk they are getting and allows the most time for it to flush out of your system. Also the food restrictions are lifted once baby is born...so feel free to eat susji and soft serve as your first meal

Have my 39 week appointment tomorrow. I think the baby is in a posterior position going off how I feel movement now and the extremely uncomfortable rectal pressure going on. Sorry that's definitely tmi but its just so uncomfortable I have to whine about it!

  22. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@skipra: I've heard a lot of people say that about a glass of wine during labor! I'd be down if my midwives recommended it, but they haven't and I'd feel a little like a lush asking... heh. Sorry about baby's position though Late pregnancy is just not fun. I know i have it easier than a lot of people but LO still favors beating up my bladder and it's so unpleasant. I've almost peed myself multiple times from a hard jab. Sigh. Hopefully she comes out before she accomplishes her (apparent) goal.

Nothing too much to report here except I'm excited it is May 1 Did another walk then yoga ball last night and dtd this am. Lots of braxton hicks the last 2 days (I think?) but nothing else going on so I'm not holding out much hope for an early baby. But that's okay. Maybe she's just very prompt and will come on Sunday when due heh.

    Happy May everyone!!! So exciting

@Beebug: awww, sorry about the stomach issues Hopefully it doesn't last nearly as long as last pregnancy.

@Mae: come on baby! A due date baby would be awesome!

I have had a few sips of champagne and wine this pregnancy, but only at Christmas and my birthday I think. I don't think I had much to drink while I was still bf-ing last time (well, pumping...since I didn't actually bf ha!) But I don't really CRAVE a nice glass of wine or anything usually.

Tomorrow is finally my last day of work!!!! I'm trying to get everything wrapped up, but they seem to be trying to get as much out of me as possible before I leave so my bosses keep sending me more and more things to do!!! It's hard to find time to update the people who will be taking over on my files. Ah well, it won't be my problem as of 4h00 tomorrow!

DH woke up really grumpy with me because apparently I kept him up all night...I guess this pregnancy snoring is really getting out of hand hahaha.

  29. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@cookie_dough: I know how you feel about work! I have my to do list of things I'd like to get accomplished before I go and I feel like it would be best to let me work on finishing those things and then if I do and I'm still not gone I can work on new stuff. But my boss keeps giving me new assignments. Which just makes no sense to me. But that has been my mantra... "whenever the baby comes this is no longer my problem so if this is how he wants to play it... fine!"

@Beebug: Aw, sorry you're not doing well! I hope you're feeling better soon!

@cookie_dough: Yay for your last day tomorrow!

@Mae: Come on Fiona! We want to "meet" you!

Happy May!! I can't believe we're here! Also can't believe that it it's May 1 and it's so cold and rainy. I would like to have a tiny bit of warm spring weather before it heats up to unbearable summer temps!

Nothing new with me - I keep wavering between so excited and so scared of what's going to happen tomorrow. Now I know how Jessie Spano felt in that caffeine pill addiction episode of Saved by the Bell. I have to admit - yesterday I was rolling my eyes about my parents coming up early, but today I am grateful that I'll be able to spend some extra time with them before things get crazy!

@Mae: Just going out to dinner tonight! I think we're going to get dinner from my favorite German place. Other than that, nothing planned! My parents have a car full of baby stuff that we're going to try and organize once they arrive. I was thinking of getting a haircut/color and pedicure, but I was too lazy to call and make an appt. So I might try to paint my own toenails. Super fun stuff, haha.

I just read through everyone's post. I can't believe no one else has had a baby yet! Including me!

@junebugmama: Oh darn, I was hoping you'd had him by now! Hope your appt goes well and he doesn't keep you waiting much longer!

  35. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: omg make someone do it for you! husband or mom or something! lol. I painted my own toenails for my shower (32 weeks) and that was the LAST time. It was so awkward and I kept getting out of breath bc i couldn't breath when i was bent over and then the baby got all angry from being squished haha. I got a pedicure a few weeks ago that is just now starting to look slightly rough. Thinking if I don't have her through this weekend I will either make an appt for pedicure next week or at least make DH paint them for me haha.

@junebugmama: good luck at your appt! Out of curiosity, why would you be opposed to a membrane sweep?

  36. junebugmama

    nectarine / 2019 posts

@twodoghouse: I've had about 25 hours worth of contractions. They measured them and decided they were "real", well no crud! However, they keep stopping overnight. I've increased my activity and am doing pretty much everything you can imagine to get this baby out! Sex multiple times a day even, which is not easy, Although somehow, I'm still enjoying it lol.

Ok ladies .. it is finally May!! The month we have all been waiting for I think its time we start having some babies around here!!

  38. junebugmama

    nectarine / 2019 posts

@Mae: Sometimes the membrane sweep can break your water. It's really quite easy to manually break water, so there's a risk of that. The risk of the water breaking is even greater when carrying a larger baby, since there's more pressure on the bag. The issue with that is if I didn't start contracting right away, then they would introduce pitocin to help with contractions.
