I'm going to cautiously join this thread. Still waiting on beta results, but the pee stick says positive so...
EDD if you have one: May 15
When Did You Find Out?: 9dpt3dt (or approx 12 dpo)
Child Number: #1
Where You Live: Illinois
What kind of provider will you see?: Will continue seeing my RE for the time being. Not sure after that. I really liked my OBGYN's office until I got lectured about doing IVF (super Catholic-affiliated office) so I'm not sure I will be returning there.
When's Your First Appointment?: No idea. As long as my beta numbers come back ok on Friday, I'll schedule an ultrasound appt with my RE and then go from there.
What kind of birth do you want?: I can't think that far ahead! I used to want to go all-natural, but now that there's a possibility of twins (we transferred 2 embryos) I know I might be limited in my options. Healthy baby/babies is most important.
What You're Most Excited For: Finding out if there are two in there. Hearing the heartbeat. Feeling movement.
What You're Most Scared About: The possibility that it won't stick.
Symptoms so far: Incredibly sore boobs. Exhaustion. Sharp, pinching cramps (not like AF cramps at all!). Nausea in the morning and night. I've also been simultaneously starving to death and about to puke over the thought of eating something for the last two days.
Any fun plans for the end of summer/fall?: Hoping to make a trip down to Texas for my dad's birthday in October. Other than that, I'm so excited for football season to really get going. We're going to our first college game of the season on Saturday, so that should be fun!

@HayleyJane: welcome!
@twodoghouse: yay! FX for sticky baby(s)!
So-- I had my first appointment today! It was loooong (like 1.5 hours) but easy. Just met with the nurse and got to pee in a cup and give 6(!) vials of blood. Went through all my medical history and family history, do's and don'ts. Got some recommendations (calcium chews + b6 + unisom + the ok to resume my allergy meds(zyrtec)).
The only decisions we have to make right now are about genetic testing. Options are blood test for cystic fibrosis and/or First trimester screen (blood + NT ultrasound) OR Second trimester screen (just blood).
First gut instinct is to opt out of all testing, but we'll see what DH thinks!
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: Yep! It was just 1 stick though. They just filled up 6 vials. I was worried I'd feel woozy so I had brought some crackers but I actually felt fine.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: Filling the vials? Not long. She got them all ready to go and from start to finish maybe 1-2 minutes to fill all six vials. I feel like the vials were a little smaller than others I have given.... but I haven't given blood in a long time so I'm not positive about that.

@twodoghouse: Congrats!!!! FX for sticky sticky baby(ies).
@HayleyJane: Congrats!!! I saw midwives last time and was so happy with them. The one on duty while I was in labor stayed with me and coached me most of the labor, especially before I got the epidural. Most people say the OB just shows up to catch the baby. Definitely personal preference but I would highly recommend at least meeting a midwife if you are considering it as an option.
@Mae: They didn't give you the option for first trimester and second trimester screening? I had bloodwork & ultrasound around 12 weeks and then additional bloodwork around 16 weeks. I think the chances of identifying problems is higher with this method but obviously not as high as the invasive diagnostic options. We chose to do the screening because if there was likely an issue I would've delivered at a different hospital.
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: She said that the 1st trimester screening catches everything the 2nd trimester screening would, except for neural tube defects and abdomen wall defects. We can choose to have both, but she said people often don't (especially because our insurance doesn't pay for it and I'm hesitant to do any screening at all). I wouldn't really have any decisions like that about the hospital because the hospital we'll deliver at has top level care for NICU and whatnot, so it is pretty much the best place to be regardless of condition.
I think my main thought against screening right now is just that with no risk factors for issues-- it seems SO unlikely that anything is wrong and sort of like a waste of money to go ahead with the screenings. Especially because it isn't like the NT scan actually diagnoses a problem or anything, it just gives you increased odds (which are generally still pretty low). So then if you get increased odds you have the hard decision of whether to do an amnio. I can understand why people do all the screen if they just want to be sure and/or are worried about defects--- I'm just not. But again, we'll see how my husband feels and how I feel in a few weeks when I actually have to make the decision!

@LovelyPlum: Thanks dear!
@Mae: Ugh, I haven't given any thought to testing whatsoever. I think we would do anything that's covered by insurance, but I have no idea what that would be.
papaya / 10343 posts
@twodoghouse: Well, I think our plan is pretty standard. Technically the tests are "covered".... but we still have to meet our (high) deductible first. Since the ladies of this group have the pleasure (not) of being pregnant over two calendar years-- that means TWO deductibles! If I had gotten pregnant in January I think we might have done the tests because we would reach our deductible with the birth anyways so the cost would be only 10%. But because we've paid 0 towards our deductible this year and the 2 ultrasounds we're having should only cost around $600 or less--- we'd be out another $600+ for genetic testing and that just seems like a LOT to pay.

@twodoghouse Welcome!! I'm a stalker on the IVF board, so I'm so excited to see you here!
@hayleyjane Welcome to you, too!
Doctor called today and my numbers look good so far. My progesterone is a little low, so I picked up a prescription tonight of progesterone tablets that you insert vaginally. Anyone else have experience with this? My thought is that if I wasn't seeing an RE, I would just get through this whole point without knowing my progesterone was low, but anything that reduces the risk of mc seems worth it at this point.
I have my first appointment for 9/25 and she said to bring my husband.... we're going to have an ultrasound and get to see our baby!!
@mae I haven't given any thought at all to testing yet. Yikes. @Glitter - you'll be fine with your blood draws. One prick and you don't even notice when they are changing the vials. You could use your other hand to read HB boards. We're all cheering for you!

@Mae: I think the biggest thing to ask yourself with the screening is does a negative outcome influence any decisions your would make moving forward in the pregnancy?
If yes, then I would say definitely do some/all of the screening!
We did everything (though I don't remember the 2nd tri blood?) with #1. I'm in Canada though, so out of pocketness for deductibles and such means nothing to me, just went with what the doctor told us to do/what the norm is here.
I am symptomless and want them!

@tarabonno: Use the other hand to read HB boards?! Lol! How I wish I was that much of a trooper. I'm praying about it and practicing thinking about it calmly so that I'm prepared when the time comes.
Anyone else feeling a heaviness in their abdomen? It's surprising how preggy I feel at only 4w 4days.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Glitter: I don't really feel anything in my abdomen but the whole rest of me feels out of whack. I almost puked yesterday brushing my teeth and this morning for the first time I had intense (not just mild) nausea the second I opened my eyes. I'm coming up on the 6 week mark (Saturday) and I'm so nervous I'm going to get legit morning sickness! Especially because we are headed out for vacation tomorrow-wednesday. I did start the b6+ 1/2 unisom thing this morning so i'm hoping that works for me.

@Mae: I have been having the same debate about the testing. I would only do the blood test tho and def not amnio. Knowing anything would change nothing for me going forward but would only add stress to my pregnancy that I feel will be a negative. My sister in law is pregnant and is 34 and was nervous about her age (which is ridiculous but shes a little crazy) and did all the testing. Everything came out fine, as suspected.
@Glitter: Yesterday for the first time I actually felt pregnant. I feel heaviness in my abdomen.. almost like its swollen maybe? My pants were tight yesterday too but I was super gassy. I even for the first time thought I might throw up. I ran to the bathroom but nothing happened. I told DH this morning I felt like I had a hangover. Really tired, slightly nauseas and overall blah feeling.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: right. I spoke to my husband about it last night and his first instinct also was to not test. He said it doesn't change anything for him (i.e. he wouldn't want to terminate regardless) so why put ourselves through needless worry when the overwhelming likelihood is that the baby will be medically perfect. So-- (unless we change our minds)-- we are opting out of all genetic testing.
apricot / 388 posts
@Mae: Did you call your insurance company before your appt and find out what was covered and what wasn't? I was thinking about that the other day if I should call.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: I did. I was told that under obamacare all routine visits and labwork are covered at 100% with no copay or deductible (because they are "preventative care"). For non-routine visits or testing (i.e. if there is a concern) or for ANY ultrasound (even the routine ones), my insurance covers at the usual rate (90% for this provider) but only after we satisfy our sky-high deductible. So basically-- we are paying out of pocket for our two ultrasounds this year and we would have paid out of pocket for any genetic testing because it isn't "routine" it's extra.
apricot / 388 posts
@Mae: ah that deductible is a killer. I don't even know what mine is. I'm so bad at this stuff. My appt isnt for almost 2 weeks so I'll call next week and get the run down.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: It is! The main thing I'm still cranky about (financially) is being pregnant over two years. It really sucks that the two main things I have to pay out of pocket for (the 8 and 20 week ultrasounds) will happen in 2013 and the birth will happen in 2014. We'll definitely hit the deductible with the birth--- so basically everything else in 2014 is covered at 90% which is awesome. So bummed that we're going to have to pay full price for the ultrasounds in 2013!

@tarabonno: popping in from April to say I'm on vaginal p suppositories for low p, but I don't/didn't see an RE. I put one in every night before bed, and I also have to take them in the AM. I would recommend using a pantyliner, because they can get messy. But the plus side is that there are usually fewer side effects with the vaginal ones!
kiwi / 573 posts
@Mae: I definitely feel lucky that stuff like deductibles and insurance I dont even have to think about! I know its not free for me, but for it to not even be a thought? I cant complain!
I am not feeling any symptoms, but did just eat two big brownies and half a bag of salt and vinegar potato thins in one sitting.
papaya / 10343 posts
@sunnyday: Also jealous of your ability to do that! lol. I'm at half-meals. I.e. I've figured out that if I only eat half of what I would usually eat for a meal, I *Probably* won't get sick. Which is good (because of the no puking) but annoying (because then I have to eat 2 hours later).

I'm just popping in to say "hi" to you girls! I hope I am joining your group soon enough!

@sunnyday: Last night I was craving salt n vinegar chips like I've never before. I can't even remember the last time I ate them!
@MrsMcD: Hi and good luck!
cherry / 228 posts
@lovelyplum Did my first day of them today and it was pretty painless. Thankfully the doctor also suggested pantyliners. I'm a tampon girl, so I do feel a little high school all over again.
In other news, my parents apparently decided that TODAY was the day they were going to start getting curious about our TTC journey. They said that they don't want me to think they don't care by not asking... so I lied through my teeth and hope I don't get caught at some point! The good news is that they don't seem suspicious that I might already be pregnant, so Dad's birthday should be a pretty great surprise!
During the phone conversation, my dad said, "I just want you to know that talking about this doesn't make me uncomfortable" at least 12 times. Great, Dad, because it makes ME pretty uncomfortable!!!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@tarabonno: lol! That's so funny about your dad... and potentially quite awkward. Lol. I remember thinking when we told DH parents "Crap. Now it's really official that we are having sex."
kiwi / 573 posts
@MrsMcD: fx for you!!!
DH has had two people in the last day and a bit ask when we're going to have another. Funny the timing!

@sunnyday: lol the irony! How does he respond?
3 days after we found out we were pregnant, someone from my church casually asked and i felt so guilty for denying it... we hadn't even told family yet
kiwi / 573 posts
@Glitter: He just laughs it off and talks about how lucky we got with #1 and how great of a baby she is. He then said "depends who you ask" to another person he said, lol.
I seriously don't feel pregnant aaaat all, worried, but trying not to worry.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@tarabonno: oh good! Yeah, they're not bad. The only downside I've found is that they amplify morning/all-day sickness. So there's that...
Also, I've been spotting a lot, and my dad keeps asking why, which usually results in a super awkward conversation about my cervix. I'm fine with it, but I'm pretty sure that he asks because he's concerned, NOT because he wants to know the answer, lol.

Wow, tons to catch up on - I will get a list up soon. I had to stay away a good part of yesterday because MS hit me like a ton of bricks! Seriously can't sit up for more than a few minutes without feeling like I'm going to lose my breakfast! So so sick - and so so happy because of the good things it means!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@sweetkeight: whoa! How do you manage with MS? Do you work outside of the home?
cherry / 228 posts
@mrsmcd I hope you do too.... I think you are the funniest bee! We could use you around here for the next 9 months!
@sunnyday I don't feel pregnant at all yet, either! Today my boobs were a teensy bit sore, but nothing too crazy? My period-like cramps seem to have gone away.
@lovelyplum I was going to ask you about that!! Do you think you would be having MS even if you weren't using the supplement? I haven't had anything yet, FX that it stays that way. Only on day 2, though...
@sweetkeight I hope you feel better soon! I had to move my appt due to a work conflict so it's now 9/30 instead of 9/26.
eggplant / 11408 posts
@tarabonno: I don't think they make you sick, but from what I"ve heard, they can make m/s stronger. I had constant nausea starting at 7DPO, so three days before I started taking P again. And I was on P for my last pregnancy, which ended at 6 weeks with a miscarriage, and I didn't get sick once. But not everyone gets m/s, and not everyone who has it gets it with every pregnancy. I think I was just going to have it with this pregnancy no matter what, and the P is just making it a little worse. I didn't notice anything remarkably different when I went from one suppository a day to two, so I'm not convinced that they're the main culprit of my nausea.
I can see why you might be worried about not having any...I didn't have any for a while yesterday, and automatically, I thought, "oh no, what's wrong??" But lots of people don't start getting it until 6 weeks or so. In the meantime, enjoy food, and get lots of rest!
eggplant / 11408 posts
@sweetkeight: aaah! Glad for good things! But feel better-feeling nauseous is no joke. Have you asked for Zofran yet?
