    @mrsog: I'm really curious to see if these ultrasound predictions are correct! Somebody really should start a thread. Mine doesn't work because I have placenta previa, but that also increases the likelihood of it being a boy so my guess is boy.

    @anandam: your right about not being in cars but I have also been avoiding the subway as much as I can. I am learning the buses around town pretty good. I feel so trapped on the subway when I feel sick but being on a bus I can just hop off if I need to. unfortunately I do have to go bus to subway to work or else it would take way to long to get there - adding that bus in there has already increased my time by 15 minutes and I don't have much more time in the morning as it is. how is your commute?

    I already retract my statement, though it IS cute. I guess at first you won't know who it's from and it would be like what? Too random, lol.

    @Beebug: it is cute, but i like your mantle idea better!

    @mrsog: Interesting because busses have made me more sick than anything! Including metros and cars and planes.

    Also, I just found myself standing over my kitchen sink eating pickles. I think thats the most pregnant thing I've ever done. lol

    @Mae: I can see that but the one train I would have to take is insanely crowded and in the beginning I was standing like a sardine contemplating to who I was going throw up on lol I figure once I'm big I won't want to be pushed around like that either so I stopped taking it and I'm so much happier without it!

    @mrsog: I used to have a hard time commuting last pregnancy too. The train was always crowded in the morning and I couldn't handle it so I switched to the bus. The bus was sometimes crowded too and one time I started to black out so I had to ask some woman to let me sit in her seat. It took a long time before I was pregnant enough for people to offer me their seats - like only a month before I was due!
    @Mae: Ha...you are such a stereotype! You should use your pickles as a spoon for your ice cream next time

    @mrsog: Oh dear, my commute. I go from South Brooklyn to Jamaica and it kind of sucks. It's over an hour by subway or cab and by bus I can't even imagine. Probably 2 hours. Luckily I'm usually going opposite rush hour traffic, so I typically get a seat. Though I definitely have my moments of fantasizing about who I'll aim for if I barf Usually it's whoever overdid the perfume that morning...

    That said, here's a trick I discovered by accident a few weeks back - if you carry an orange with you and nick the skin a bit with your nail, the citrus smell has been a great antidote for me in moments where I thought I might lose it. I look like a madwoman sniffing citrus, but whatever.

    No paint anywhere in the house yet so it's realllllly white. I used a filter to darken the edges a bit. Dog's reflection in glass of the fireplace sort of annoys me, but I can deal with it.

    @beebug That is ADORABLE!!!!

    @anandam My husband's cousin (who is sometimes crazy) REALLY wanted a girl with their first. When they found it out was a boy, she cried and everyone knew she was sooo disappointed. They had two girls after that, but that's when we decided to be team green. I don't feel super strongly either way. DH keeps saying he wants a boy so I feel like I should hope for a girl to even the playing field, but whatever gender ends up in my arms in May will be exactly what we were hoping for!

    My husband just went crazy with excitement looking at baby clothes from his favourite soccer team - AS Roma. I mean crazy - jumping up and down in the bedroom with his face all lit up. Every year I get him a shirt/jacket from Roma for his birthday, but he says next year he wants one for his SON since they have suits from size 3M. We find out the sex on Tuesday... but no pressure right?!

    Well, team, I just had a stranger ask directions and then stop to say, "By the way, congratulations! Are you having a girl?" So I think that means I'm showing...

    @Beebug: Such a cute idea! And such a cute dog!

    @tarabonno: @Glitter: I wonder if men typically want a boy? We're trying to stay neutral and definitely green, but DH still has dreams of twin boys

    @Beebug: sooo cute! your mantel/dog look like a hallmark card! If you haven't finalized things yet I might switch the stockings for dad and "arriving may 2014" just because i like the balance of parents on one side and children on the other. but thats nitpicky

    @Glitter: omg tuesday is so soon! that is amazing!

    Anyone have any new appointments to add to the list? I'm going to update it here in the next day or two

    @Glitter: I can't believe you'll know the gender SO SOON. I'm so excited for you!!

    @Mae: I have a couple appointments to add to your list. Dec. 3 I'm going to the perinatologist for a high level ultrasound to check growth and measure my cervix. There is a chance (FINGERS CROSSED) that we might be able to find out the genders that day, but we're not sure yet. It might still be too early. Then I have a regular OB appointment/sonogram on Dec. 13.

    How was everyone's weekend? We got a lot done in the house as far as cleaning out the office so we can move the current furniture out of the nursery when my family comes for Thanksgiving. We also planned out the layout of the nursery. What I thought was a pretty decent-sized baby room starts to get really crowded when you factor in two cribs! We are pretty set on furniture, but my husband wants to see it in person first, so we'll have to make a trip up to the Chicago area sometime since downstate IL doesn't have the "good stores."

    Yesterday we had terrible weather, including tornadoes. None touched down in our neighborhood, but across the river whole subdivisions have been destroyed. Our little community is still reeling this morning. So scary!

    @Beebug: what a cute picture! and gorgeous dog

    @Mae: I have my next check up with my OB on December 10. I'm assuming that he will give me the requisition at the point for my anatomy scan, which will be sometime in the following 2 weeks!

    @twodoghouse: What scary weather! Glad you guys are ok. That's so sad that there was so much destruction The really high winds are now hitting us in Ontario, but so far nothing as bad as that in my area (though I did pick a really really bad day to where a flouncy skirt...carrying DD into daycare this morning was super fun since I didn't have a free hand hold my skirt down

    @Beebug: I love that! It looks so perfect. Beautiful!

    @anandam: DH would never say what he prefers but I am thinking he might want a girl this time. One of my friend's husbands was not shy about admitting he wanted a daddy's little girl too! But I do think most men would prefer boys and many women would prefer girls.

    @Glitter: I can't believe you are going to find out the gender so soon! Good luck at your appointment!

    @twodoghouse: Wow, so scary. I'm so happy to hear that you are safe.

    @Mae: I just have a regular appointment with the midwife on Thursday. I think after that they may let me book my anatomy scan. Hoping to get it during the week between Christmas and New Year's because DH has that week off work.

    papaya / 10343 posts

    @twodoghouse: so scary about the tornadoes! I never used to be concerned about storms but the last few years seems like they have been worse than usual. We had tornado sirens going off here for about 30 min last night and it was a little scary, but I'm sure not nearly as bad as in Illinois where people were in real danger (ours were a false alarm, as it turns out).

  20. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

    @cookie_dough: @skipra: @Mae: Thanks for the comments about the tornados, ladies. We feel very lucky that we were not in the path of the tornadoes, but it is such a terrible feeling knowing how many people lost their homes, cars, pets, etc. yesterday.

    Yes one more day! I am getting so anxious! Any of you feeling movements yet? I keep wondering if I'm feeling tiny kicks or if it's just gas bubbles lol. Either way they feel awesome

    @Beebug: I forgot to mention that your display is beautiful! I too would put the parents on one side and kids on the other, but that is purely subjective.

    @twodoghouse: I'm sorry you are experiencing such bad weather, but so happy that u and your family are ok! I hope you get to find out the gender of your babies at that next appointment!

    nectarine / 2019 posts

    @Glitter: I'm feeling movement with this one, but with my first I didn't feel anything until about 17 weeks. I'm jealous about your gender scan! We have an appt next wednesday, and I would love to know so we can tell our family on Thanksgiving

    @anandam: I also had my first congrats from a stranger. It's nice to know I just don't look like i've been binging on fast food lol

  23. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

    @junebugmama: nice! can you explain what it feels like, so I can know if i'm really feeling kicks or just.. delusional. lol. I did read that the second time around you feel them much earlier but this is my first pregnancy.

    I cannot wait for random congrats! (I know, so vain). I still feel weird because people who don't know me would think I just have a big belly. This lady from my church came rubbing my belly a few weeks ago, joking that I'm getting fat. I was like no lady, I have a baby in there Can you imagine if I didn't though? That would not have been a cool comment from her!

  24. junebugmama

    nectarine / 2019 posts

    @Glitter: The first time around, I did think it was gas bubbles or my bowels working. The best way to describe it is flutters. I think that people don't actually feel them earlier, but the 2nd time around you just know what you're looking for, so you don't doubt yourself.

  25. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

    @Glitter: omg so inappropriate! sort of reminds me of this graphic… lol. Although I'm actually looking forward to people asking me!

    Also re: movement, for the past few days I sort of wonder if I do feel movement? I feel a weird feeling randomly in my lower abdomen. Only if I'm really quieting my body and focusing on it though. Sort of like a weird stomach churning feeling except lower. I just wonder if I'm like.. making it up bc I WANT to feel something though

    @tarabonno: thank-you!

    @Glitter: DDs name is a soccer team name, but I have run into a few Moms/wives of soccer fan Dads and how our DDs name so wouldn't fly, lol

    @anandam: thank-you!

    @Mae: @Glitter: I had it that way to start, and debated it for a while! I thought for the purpose I wanted "the parents" to surround the "kids" and the kids to be the centre of attention. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer, but I totally thought about it!

    @Mae: Nov 27th and Dec 19 are my next two apps, wish I had anatomy scan date to add! After the 27th appt surely!

    @cookie_dough: thank-you!

    @skipra: thank-you!

    @Glitter: tomorrow will be here so soon! I am definitely feeling movement now, my fave thing about pregnancy, lol.

    @junebugmama: Wow on first congrats from a stranger! Eeeep i am so not ready for that!

    @Glitter: I feel like I have @'ed you a lot in this post, sorry, not sure you get an email for each one! Yikes about lady at church, what nerve! I need to get my butt back to church, mass times so not working for us lately though, awful excuse, but it is what it is I guess.

    I am home from work today, took today off. DD and I took dog for a big hike, I am still wearing her without any discomfort in belly area which is nice as we have her in the carrier a lot! We then went to do Santa pics, HA! Good thing I didn't want that picture for our Christmas card! She freaked. She is down for her nap, I napped too, feel bad not being productive around the house, but feel like I took care of myself a little! We are all a little less sick, but DD back to daycare tomorrow, argh!

    Hey mamas- Missed out on lots of convo. I went to New Orleans to celebrate part2 of my hubbies birthday. We are making it a month long thing It was mostly fun, except I am still battling acid reflux so I could not eat all the stuff I wanted to. I have to do another trip to NoLa post baby just for the food (and just because I really wanted a hurricane or sazerac- but was stuck with sips of water!)

    @Mae- that 'when to ask' poster just made me laugh so hard!!! I am personally hoping strangers start asking. I keep telling friends who I bump into- no I am not just fatt(er)- I am pregnant

    I did however have the first person touch my belly. I thought I would be weirded out. We had barely met, but I was OK about it.

    @Beebug- LOooooooovvvvveee the announcement. So, so adobs.

    Sooooooo..... I had my ob appointment today, and the doc was going to tell us the gender. I pushed/begged/pleaded with my doc to try and do it early since we are still at 15 weeks and 3 days. I was really excited to find out. Turns out out baby is 'quite modest' and 'stubborn' and REFUSED to 'part the legs' (his/her legs were crossed the entire time). so the doctor could not get a lookie. I thought I would be seriously bummed, but I was more amused by it. Goes to show- even the best laid plans!!! Boooooo!!! We have to wait another three weeks.

    I was convinced at the beginning that it would be a boy, but recently I have been having lots of girl dreams. My husband would love a boy. I also think I want a boy too... but frankly, I no longer care. I just want a baby

    @glitter I think I felt it for the first time tonight!! Felt like an eye twitch almost, but definitely stronger than I thought and not like anything I'd felt before. It was higher up than I expected too... closer to my ribs.

    I called a friend who just had a baby and she said her movements felt the same way. It has to be baby movement - it didn't feel like anything I'd felt before! I was running around today doing a whole bunch of things and as soon as I sat down in the car it started. Maybe lasted a few seconds or so? It has happened four more times since then!

    @tarabonno: exciting!! it's so comforting that we can get these little "hey mom i'm alive!" signals. Love it. I've been feeling them a lot between yesterday and this morning, always when I am not moving or speaking.

    @Glitter: Hope all goes well today, can't wait to hear all about it! At this stage in pregnancy is this an elective u/s or actually "for" something? I think I missed that part!! If it's just gender related, cool!!!

    @Glitter: Good luck today! Can't wait to hear!

    @Coopersmama: Aww your LO is running the show already!

    I think I've been feeling movement for a little while now. I remember distinctly with DS but I think because I'm so much more distracted this time especially with all our housing drama going on that I just don't notice it unless I'm trying to pay attention. I didn't feel any big obvious movements with DS until 18-19 weeks but felt little flutters a few weeks before then.

    @Beebug: My ob/gyn does ultrasounds at every visit. I never know what he's gonna be looking for until we get in. He uses a 3d machine and I've read those can show you from as early as 15 weeks so i'm hoping we can see today! I think he already knows though, because at the last appointment he referred to our baby as "Junior" but then laughed it off weirdly... :S
