    Lovinggggg the bump pics!

@HabesBabe: Hope that things fix themselves or there are no long-term ill-effects, fx for you and healthy babes!

@twodoghouse: Somewhat better! I didn't really nap yesterday, headache was just killing me, but last night I got 8 solid hours before waking to pee and then some solid am DTD with DH (lol tmi, whatevs!) which was nice despite both being sick as we were struggling last week, plus we've been so sick, so hopefully a little refresh button for us!

@Coopersmama: I had some wine with company we had Saturday night and EW. I had been craving it, drank the equivalent of like a tbsp, and it totally curved any want for it, which probably will work out better for me, lol. I will indulge again in the 3rd tri with a glass here and there. DH doesn't drink and I typically don't either, but a glass now and then? Mmmm! Too bad about water though, obviously they all know you are pg?

@cookie_dough: Interesting about option for C or vaginal. To be honest I would choose a C, but I know I won't have the option unless things go bad in labour. I am so over the birth experience, I know the recovery is worse, but I am soo not ina hurry to go through contractions and pushing ever again. I had 1.5 hours of trying to get placenta out after too, and that was probably the worst and half the issue in the back of my mind.

    6 months today until edd!!

Just something to share about movement with first time mama's I didn't feel movement until after 20 weeks and I was so worried. It turned out I had an anterior placenta (the placenta was in front of the baby) but I didn't find that out until the anatomy scan. So it can take awhile for some!

@sungirl: I hate how different it can be for everyone, but suppose it is a good thing!

So vm on phone when I got home from doc office. She just said call back, and I wasn't expecting the call, so of course immediately thought "oh no" regarding my IPS u/s. She told me my baby doc for #1 was going to be on mat leave until July! Boo! Sort of bummed, but not a huge deal. I am going with the other doc in her practice, as I really liked the office. I used a family doctor last time and that is the plan again! My usual family doc doesn't deliver babies anymore, and rather than an OB I switch to a family doc who does deliver! So long as I have a normal pregnancy, L and D I stick with them, if during labour I have complications I get the OB on call which would be the case if I went with an OB from 20w on. Whereas any day, any time I go into labour, this doc will come, and I like that! One more appt wth my fam doc (27th), he will give req for anatomy scan (will book for hopefully just before Christmas) and off I go to the new doc for the rest of the way, eeeep!

@Beebug: aw that sucks about having to switch docs! Hopefully you like the new one just as much.

I absolutely LOVE my doc but one thing I don't love is that I have a 1/5 chance of her delivering my baby! She is in a practice with 5 docs total and whoever is on call for deliveries delivers your baby. So that feels a little strange that more likely than not a stranger will deliver my baby. But I mean... it is what it is!

@Mae: I'm going to a big practice with several doctors as well. I have no idea who will be delivery these kiddos! Actually, today is the first time I'm meeting with an OB since I've gotten pregnant (my first few appointments were at the RE, then an appointment with a midwife who said she wouldn't see me anymore after she read my chart and realized it was twins - office policy, then several appointments with just the sonographer). So I'm very excited to talk to the OB and hopefully get some of my twin questions answered since the midwife didn't know much about the office's policies with two.

I'm also getting another ultrasound today. I feel so spoiled getting to see the babies every two weeks! When I got my last ultrasound, the sonographer mentioned that they'll send me to the perinatologist for two high level ultrasounds around 18 and 20 weeks. I should be able to find out the genders then! I'm hoping the OB will give me more details about this so I can actually schedule the appointments.

Has anyone else stalled out on the weight gain? According to my scale at home, I haven't seemed to gain any weight in the last month (besides some fluctuations up and down depending on what time I'm weighing myself, etc.) I know I should feel grateful - especially since I gained a lot early on - but it's making me nervous. I'm 14 weeks tomorrow and have gained 9-10 pounds so far. But I've read that twin moms should gain 20 pounds by 20 weeks so I've got a ways to go. I'll see what the doctor says, I guess.

I hope everyone else is feeling ok today!

@twodoghouse: aw, that is fabulous that you get to see your little ones so frequently! I haven't seen mine since I was 7w4d and he or she was just a bit of a blob. SO EXCITED for my anatomy week scan in 2 weeks 5 days 2.5 hrs... (not that I'm counting or anything...)

Also I feel you on the weight gain. I'm actually still negative! I lost 7 lbs the first 12 weeks. In the last 3 weeks I've lost 1, so I'm down a total of 8. I keep feeling like any day now I'll start gaining and/or start having some more significant bump action happening, but so far no dice. I'm so torn on it. On one hand I'm already overweight so I know that I shouldn't gain as much as others and that even though I'm losing weight (due to eating far less and healthier than usual) I am mostly losing fat while gaining baby/uterus weight and its just the fat is winning the race. But on the other I'm in that crazy period where I feel good and I'm mostly bump-less and I can't feel anything and I have a terrible fear that I'm not gaining/growing because the baby stopped growing at some point since my 12 week exam 3 weeks ago. But! I'm staying positive. The negative/worrying thoughts creep in but I try to remember that everything was great at 12 weeks, the chances of something going wrong after 12 weeks are less than 1%, and I have had no indication that anything is wrong (spotting, cramping, nothing). I'm telling myself I'm just incredibly lucky and that I'll hate myself for worrying about weight loss when I hit 35 weeks and inevitably feel like a beached whale.

@twodoghouse: I wouldn't worry at all about stalled weight gain. Last time it came in spurts for me. Some months I would gain nothing, then I would have a big jump another month. I was actually shocked when I got weighed at the OB yesterday...apparently I've lost a pound since the first time I got weighed at like 4 weeks. Maybe my OB's scale is weighing me differently than my GP's was...I can't believe I haven't gained anything.

I think I've finally arrived at the end of my nausea. I haven't thrown up in about a week, and I'm able to start cooking again...finally!!!!! Of course now I have another cold (the last one just ended about a week ago...ughhh).

@Beebug: I had to switch my practice this time too and I'm very happy so far. At least you know pretty early on and not in the last few weeks.

@Mae: Wow, last time I think there was like a 1/50 chance that my midwife would deliver my baby! Do you get a chance to meet all the doctors and discuss your birth preferences with them? I was comfortable with the probability of having someone I'd never met before deliver because of the practice's overall theory on labor and delivery. There was a session where they all introduced themselves and we had the opportunity to ask questions. There are only 3 midwives in the group I'm with this time and I rotate appointments between all of them but there are also 2 additional midwives that are sometimes on call at the hospital that I won't have the chance to meet in advance.

  9. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@skipra: No you don't meet the other docs. And I don't really have any preferences yet! I plan to do things pretty traditionally. Basically show up at the hospital when told and do what the nurses tell me to do. I figure they do this all day long all week long and I'm a newbie--- I trust their expertise.

  10. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

I wouldn't worry about not gaining weight yet. It's still really early for all of us. I had lost about 5 lbs initially and then I stepped on the scale and it was all back. It's only been a couple weeks! Thanks, Halloween candy Don't worry, the holidays are coming and it's going to be hard not to gain weight!

  11. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Mae: If you decide that there is something that you feel really strongly about then I would ask the doctor how the other doctors in the practice usually handle that type of situation. (For example, are they supportive if you choose not to get an epidural, how long are they willing to let you labor before they starting thinking about c section, etc.) Your doctor will have a good idea on how his or her colleagues work and can advise you how to best approach things with them in order to achieve a delivery as close to your plan as possible.

  12. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@skipra: Thanks for the advice I think the only real think I want to ask about is how they try to minimize tearing. A friend of mine gave birth to a 10+ lb kid with almost no tearing at all and she credits her doc doing some sort of massage of the area with oils and prioritizing not doing an episiotomy unless absolutely necessary. So that would be my strong preference I guess. But other than that-- I will probably see if I can do it sans epidural but I"m not at all adamant about it. And I don't think I'm as scared of c-section as most. I worry a lot about fetal distress during labor and I honestly think I'd trade the harder recovery for feeling more secure in getting the baby out ASAP if there was any type of trouble.

@Mae: I'm so excited that your ultrasound is coming up so soon! Are you going to find out the gender or go team green?

@cookie_dough: Yay for the end of your nausea! Fingers crossed it's gone for good!

@skipra: Ugh, you're right about the holidays coming. I know I will make up any lack of weight gain pretty quickly with Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner!

  14. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: Oh we are totally finding out! We are SOOOOO excited for that! I don't think it will feel super real to me until I can picture a baby boy or girl. Although agree re: holidays. And honestly I should be more careful anyways. In a lot of ways I'm eating better because I'm eating less over all, more at home, and more produce. But I still fail more often than I'd like to admit. For example, I ate half a bag of doritos for lunch. Just that. And we're not talking a single-serve bag. I'm now power-eating grapes because in my warped mind eating fruit will somehow redeem my nutrition-less lunch.

Hi everyone - last week I was super busy at work and getting things ready for my SIL's shower, which was Sunday and went great, so I didn't really get many chances to get on here. I did pop in once or twice to see how everyone was and of course saw the sad news of the May mama's we lost but I am loving the bump pics from everyone! I will have to take one this week to share bc I think I'm finally popping a bit!

Anyway - glad to see everyone is doing well. for those still sick - I'm right there with you. Nauseous most days and throwing up once in a while. Fingers crossed its just another week or so till its done but my doctor told me some people feel sick the whole time!! I did have a check-up this morning and everything is looking great. All first tri bloodwork is good and the vampires took some more for the second tri screening. I lost 3 lbs from my first to second appts and have since gained the 3 lbs back so I feel pretty good about that. I feel like I've put on more but I guess balancing eating carbs all day and getting sick will keep you level! Next appt is anatamy scan - can't wait to find out if my little bugger is a boy or girl!!

  16. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@mrsog: I'm sorry you're still sick Are you leaning towards boy or girl? People keep asking me if I have a "feeling" about it but I totally don't haha. Also do you have a preference?

  17. mrsog

    apricot / 388 posts

@Mae: I have no idea! I wish I felt something one way or the other but I really dont. everyone else seems to think its a girl for some reason tho! I don't have a preference - as long as its healthy!

  18. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@mrsog: me too! My mom and MIL and dh all think it is a girl. I don't care either way either, although when trying to really think of my preference if I had a choice I was sort of leaning boy. Something about doing a little super hero nursery and dressing him in suspenders and of course it would be easier in the teen years. But now I think I am maybe leaning girl preference? Tutus and glitter and matching aprons (although honestly if I have a boy I'll put an apron on him and make him bake cookies with me too). I know either way it will be just exactly what was right for us, but I think I'm maybe having a tiny preference for girl at this moment.

@Mae: I am not too worried about the doc thing, having the same doc all the way through incl labour is important to me, so I will deal with the new doc, just like doc I liked was new with #1! If they're in the same practice they've gotta be good, only 3 docs in there and they're all amazing.

@twodoghouse: Hope u/s was good today, update when you can! I am not really feeling the weight gain, I was only up 1.5lbs so very modest compared to #1!

@cookie_dough: yay end of nausea!!! I am still rocking the cold. The day it ends will be glorious. DD is out of daycare after tomorrow til Tuesday so I am hoping that helps!!

@skipra: Good call, it's now versus 35w or something! I have forewarning going into it, so I will deal!

@Mae: The tearing question is a good one, but I think it's also soooo person dependant! I had a 9lb+ baby and had no tearing and my SIL had a 6lb baby and tore with a zillion stitches, so it's weird to me how variable that can be, but who knows....maybe what that friend's doc did made a significant difference!

@mrsog: Eeee getting to the stage where our next appts are anatomy scans!

I was thinking about boy or girl tonight. By this time with DD I was sure she was a girl, this time I feel no direction either way! I of course want healthy #1......but to be totally honest (and I have said it before) I "want" a girl, because I already have one and it's what's comfortable for me. BUT on the way home I was thinking and know when I think nursery or think of the baby I think boy! I don't know if that is my intuition leading me, or me trying to convince myself I want a boy, but then I am like......"a boy would be so fun". So then I come right back around to full circle not realllllly caring, but excited to find out and go from there either way! Names? DH and I currently have none on the list for either gender!

@Beebug: My appointment went really well today. First I had an US, then met the OB. She was great and answered a ton of my questions. I hope that I'm able to keep seeing her throughout the rest of my pregnancy. (The office has 7 doctors and 4 midwives!) She wants to get me into the perinatologist as soon as possible for a high level US, but I don't know when that appointment will be yet. Otherwise, I'll go back in another 4 weeks.

Our babies are really started to look like fully formed humans! I'm obsessed with this picture of Baby B:

Just checking in. I came out at work to most people last week and they all said they suspected already! I thought I was so good at hiding, apparently not so much It's nice to be able to let it all hang out now, though!

@mrsog: @whodat: I'm with you and the other still-nauseous bees. Mostly just waves upon rising and a bit in the evening now, but did plenty of vomiting over the weekend after a long drive. In NYC thank goodness we're hardly in cars, but that was my first car trip pregnant and I can't imagine how the driving women do it! Especially with the New Orleans roads, whodat! Even the few short cab rides I've had to take left me gagging!

@Mae: Your little visions of boy versus girl made me cry! Apparently I want both! On the subject of tearing, from my experience the most has to do with your tissue integrity (nutrition, hydration, non-smoking - occasional Doritos lunch allowed), the baby's position (not coming with an elbow by her cheek so the arm flails out and tears through you), and slow controlled gentle barely pushing once the head is crowning. Studies don't support any one hands-on or hands-off approach from the provider. One thing you can do in advance is perineal massage, though it hurts. Not sure if this link will translate?
    http://www.midwife.org/ACNM/files/ccLibraryFiles/Filename/000000000656/Perineal%20Massage%20in%20Pregnancy.pdf

@Beebug: How are things with DH? Any changes?

@cookie_dough: Uterine rupture is rare, and maternal or fetal disaster as a result is even rarer. It doesn't just suddenly burst open violently the way it sounds. When it does happen, it's most often just a little opening along the old incision, and if it's causing a problem, your doc should notice signs of concern in your pain level or the baby's heart tracing way before it becomes a stat emergency situation. Also sounds like your doc kind of prefers to do repeat sections instead of VBAC, so would be more likely to take you to the operating table at the first sign of any issue in labor. Something to consider in your decision.

@anandam: I'm sorry you are still feeling so nauseous I hope it passes soon. I do still feel a bit sick on car rides as well! And thanks s for the info! I was trying to figure out what my OB prefers...I couldn't really tell. When DD was breech, he was completely willing to deliver her breech, and I'm the one who decided not to...so I definitely don't feel like he "errs on the side of caution" hahaha. Not in a bad way, he just seems more willing to try things even if they are a bit riskier. From what I have heard, he usually deals with high risk pregnancies, so has a lot of experience with difficult situations. Just wondering, would me having an epidural kind of mask any trauma that's going on? So much to consider. Right now I'm leaning towards scheduling a c-section for sometime between 40 and 41 weeks, but if I go into labour before then, we will make the call at that point. I will probably change my mind about 25 times between now and May

I started working on our mantle for Christmas last night. DH, DD and I have stockings with our names on them, so I made another with "arriving may 2014" on it. Did it on old tshirt I will attach to stocking to stocking is useful when we name the baby, lol. I am going to have our dog lay at the foot of the fireplace, decorate mantle, hang stockings and take a pic! It will be the front of our Christmas card and that is how we're telling people. A few days ahead of everyone we're going to send to BIL/SIL x2 (Dec 1st I hope for) and then like Dec 5th or 6th to everyone else. I think it's going to be funny to get calls with people's reactions! Parents will know next weekend, I am expecting DD's "big sister" onesie in the mail any day now! I am looking forward to it being out, but not til December!

@Mae: I will gladly take another turkey dinner! Haha Thanksgiving already feels like aaaages ago! DH and his Dad are Christmas CRAZY so I am betting when his dad is here next wknd the outdoor decor will get done! We won't get our tree til Dec 1 probably! We never worry about doing it too early as we're never home over Christmas (we fly out 22nd this year), so early at our house is totally acceptable. I've come a long way from being a Christmas hater to having so much fun with it with DH and now our fam!

@Beebug: Oooo I'm jealous you do outdoor decor! We never do. I mean, we have a wreath and sometimes we wrap our front posts in white lights, but that's it. Our house is kind of tall and skinny and my husband is afraid of heights so I don't really see him getting out a 20-30 ft ladder to do Christmas lights haha. We always decorate the Saturday after Thanksgiving (Nov 30 this year). I can't wait! I never got around to decorating for fall, although I should probably dig out at least a few fall decorating items or at least my wreath because we're hosting Thanksgiving!

@Beebug: awww what a cute way to announce! And I'm jealous of all the xmas athmosphere you are going to have We probably won't even get a tree this year. We spend xmas even adn xmas morning going back and forth to my parents, DH's parents, etc so we don't feel that we HAVE to get a tree this year. Next year when DD is old enough to really understand! Plus we are trying to do a major de-clutter/re-organizing of our house, so it's a bit of a disaster right now. I feel like adding a tree and xmas decorations would just make it worse hahaha. Not to mention that we have two crazy cats who would go nuts trying to destroy it.

@cookie_dough: good question about the epidural - my guess would be yes? But I think the main indicator they're watching the baby, anyway. And you know your doc better than any of us, I guess I was just assuming things from when you said he mentioned disaster with VBAC but no risks of repeat section (though those are more risks for you than for baby). It's not as easy decision, just like last time for you. I guess one thing you can consider is the bad scenario for both options and which makes you feel less miserable. Haha that came out so inspiring! Sorry. Not sure how else to say it? Most likely everything will be fine either way! We all need to remember that!

So sorry that some of you are still feeling sick. I was really sick last time but it did get better. Hopefully soon for everyone!!!

We should start a thread for gender predictions before more of us start finding out. Right now we are calling the baby a boy's name. It's a family name on my side and I'm really hoping I can convince DH to use it so I'm getting him used to it early. I would also be really happy with a girl so we'd have one of each but I'm just thinking that it's going to be another boy. Another boy would be the 5th grandson for my parents...no granddaughters!

@Beebug: Such a cute announcement idea!
@cookie_dough: We may not get a tree this year either. We have to move out of our condo in 2 weeks and still don't know where we're going. Decorating for Christmas is not even on my to do list.

@Mae: my DH is afraid of heights too. I may have been up on a ladder at the highest peak of our house 3w pp last Fall! He holds the ladder and just shivers with fear, LOL. Our new house is a bungalow so we shouldn't have issues this year, ha!

@cookie_dough: I have no idea what our tree will look like, our house is completely baby proof and adding a tree with decorations really voids that and I like being able to be in the kitchen when she's in the living room playing, but we'll figure it out I guess!

I hope the announcement idea turns out, it'll be so fun if so!

I got 2 pairs of mat pants and a sweater from Old Navy mat clothes today, I needed something, showing like crazy today. Dress wasn't even covering it up, thankfully I was at a meeting and hid behind a table with people I don't regularly/ever work with!
