@cookie_dough: I'm so ready to give it up but he won't allow it yet. Knock on wood about the cold. We've been super lucky! He was really only sick for a couple days too because as soon as I got sick he was instantly better and he never even had to see the doctor. Gotta be those antibodies! At this point I think I'll try to wean after the worst of the winter cold season is over but hopefully it won't be too late. I don't think he will take well to seeing a new baby on HIS boobs!

Had my 16 week checkup yesterday (even though I'm just 16 weeks today). No ultrasound, but everything looked great! I feel my uterus higher up than they say it should be, but the doc didn't seem concerned (maybe because I have a short torso?). He even pointed out to me where the head and feet were, even though I can't feel anything different. I've only gained one pound, but again, he didn't seem concerned. I'm not denying myself anything, really, so I'm SURE that will change soon!

I've been having what I think are Braxton Hicks in the morning when I wake up and at random times throughout the day. My stomach felt really weird last night. I'm not sure how to describe it. Maybe it was movement? I don't know. Just...weird. My breasts haven't been leaking, but I'm sure that will happen soon. It used to happen to me when I was on birth control pills (weird side effect).

@anandam: Whoa... I am so not ready for these things to start happening!

You guys are crazy with this fundal height stuff. I still have no idea what you're talking about!!!

Glad everyone had good appointments this week. I go Monday morning for my 16 week visit. Looking forward to it!!

DHs parents know! AND his Bro, and our SIL! MIL was staying at their house last night so to tell her we had to tell them! We put DD up close on Skype! SIL was like "what does that say!!!" right away! Here it took FIL about 40 mins and DH putting DD in her high chair for dins and saying "Papa, read what my shirt says" and once he saw it he was so shocked, and then ran over to hug me, lol.

Now to tell other BIL/SIL today, and heck probably my parents, too.

    @Beebug: yay! So fun!!

So, I think I am DEFINITELY feeling movement now! All week long sometimes when I'm laying still I've felt little flutters/"hamster doing somersaults" type feelings (love that reference, whoever said that). But I just wasn't convinced it was real/I wasn't making it up. This morning though I felt nothing and I got my phone out and put a song on (We are Young by Fun.) and set my phone on my stomach. Baby either liked or hated but definitely had a reaction! Almost immediately it felt like s/he was swimming around in there! And then it stopped when the song was over. SO COOL.

@Mae: that is so cool! I'm at the salon now but will definitely try the phone on my stomach thing when I get home

@Beebug: congrats on sharing the fun! How does it feel to finally let the secret out?

    @twodoghouse: @Mae: @Glitter: Thanks!

Yesterday ended up funny. DHs Dad spilled the beans by accident to my step-dad, he totalllly forgot, haha. I was a little disappointed as I wanted to tell my parents together, my Mom ended up leaving before they all got back from hockey, so it wasn't going to happen yesterday after all. So now I need to non-obviously get them over here asap, but I have no idea how/when! As if my Mom is the only one who doesn't know, I'm a bad daughter, lol.

I haven't felt movement the last couple days, hope everything is ok, my next appt is Wednesday.

LO is sleeping in and I am in bed still, DH brought me a tea and I would love to not move for a long while yet, lazy!

Ahhhh telling my Fam was SO fun!

We had the shirt on DD and we got there, and my step Dad showed up too (my parents live apart right now, but are together, it is weird, but works for now, lol). DD was suuuuper clingy and wouldn't let go of me, after 10 mins or so my sister grabbed her from me and DD perfectly displayed the shirt and my Mom and sis read it at the same time. Oh my Mom's reaction was awesome, so shocked, especially at when and how far along we were, lol. My sister said "I knew it" but my Mom had no clue (I totally thought she did). Apparently I took too many snacks back to work as per my sister when she came home for lunch with me one day (she goes to school where I work). I told my Mom all the reasons I thought she knew and she didn't "see" any of it!

So yes, they were super pumped, and wow....it's out! I now want to tell my Grandparents and my Great Grandma in person, DHs Grandparents will get a call soon (across country) and then everyone else will be the card......and I better get on writing them all. I'm the fool that writes a different novel in each card and they take me forever. I am not sure how to sign the card though? Do I sign incl baby #2 or no? As that will bust things if people don't notice the front? Hmmmm.

@Beebug: Yay! Congrats on telling the family. So cute!

We had an exciting weekend. Saturday night I was up all night throwing up and still not keeping any fluids down by yesterday afternoon so we went to the ER for fluids. They wanted to check the baby to make sure everything was ok and we found out we're having another boy!!! So excited! Usually my mom or step mom babysits for us but they are both out of town so we had to bring DS with us until we could get a friend to watch him. He was waving at the baby on the ultrasound and clapping his hands. Aww I love it!

@skipra: yay for a boy!! We are up 3-0 for boys at this point in this thread! Also I hope you are feeling better now? Is this pregnancy related illness or did you catch a nasty stomach bug?

  13. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Mae: Thanks, feeling quite a bit better just really sore and tired. Don't think it's directly pregnancy related other than my stomach being more sensitive than usual. I think it was mostly stress from our upcoming move. Sometimes I throw up when I'm stressed out and I just couldn't stop.

  14. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@skipra: aw, understandable! I used to do that in college. The day before a big test I'd be up throwing up all night. It sucks!

Also, really glad I got over that because I have an important hearing today and I"m super nervous and puking right now would not improve my mood haha.

@Beebug: yayyy for telling everyone! As for the not feeling movement, I'm in the same boat. I'm pretty sure I was feeling some for a week or two, and nothing over the last 3 days. I'm just telling myself that the baby is so small at this point that if he/she moved into a different position or something, that could explain why I'm not feeling anything.

@skipra: Ugh, that sounds awful. Hopefully you are feeling better soon. But congrats on finding you out you are having a little boy!

    Eeee!

    That is so exciting!!!

I am officially committing to thinking we have a boy in here! We shall see! I am anxious for my appt Wednesday just to hear hb again and schedule anatomy scan!

Having a very unmotivated Monday. I got caught up on email already and am already trying to figure out what to take on next, but realllly don't want to!

Has anyone started decorating a nursery yet or thinking of ideas? We were hoping to move a few months after DS is here so I wasn't going to get crazy decorating a nursery, but those plans seem like they're going to be delayed.... So I've been checking out themes and I am really feeling an underwater theme!

  20. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

Glitter: awww, underwater theme would be SUPER cute!!!

We already have a nursery since it's DD's room now (and it's very gender neutral...green walls, animal-themed). We have to start working on DD's "big girl" room, which is currently our guest bedroom. I wanted to do something super girly and flowery and pink, but DH is totally not on board. The room is already painted a taupe colour (and I don't feel like re-painting) and I bought these curtains http://www.target.com/p/room-essentials-chevron-shower-curtain-pink-green/-/A-14365590#prodSlot=medium_2_13&term=shower+curtain (yes they are fabric shower curtains hahaha). I'm not sure if I'm sold on the curtains though. DH is insisting that we get this bed: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/80253814/ (it's reversible so would only become a loft bed when she's older).

  21. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Glitter: I am definitely starting to think! Because we just moved in August, the walls are bare (and painters/builers white, bleh!!) and we have nothing in the room except a Queen bed, and we did have DDs change table and diaper shelves (we CD, and have a big stash, lol) in there too. DHs Dad was here for the weekend though and we moved it into her room, and are going to leave it there and start thinking about this room as a baby's room! I am hoping to find an assembled chocolate brown crib on clearance at Babies R Us in the next few months, and then strip and stain (to match the crib) existing furniture we have in the basement just being stored for that room, and then bringing in DDs change table, it won't match, but it's white and I am not buying two change tables! We are not themey people, so there probably won't be a theme like we didn't with DD, but we will aim for it to be super cute no matter what, lol.

We are going to paint this room and DDs sooner than later I think, but nothing colourful, we are very neutral, warm, not exciting paint colour people, ha!

  22. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@cookie_dough: I was considering an animal theme too! Our study/guest room (which will be converted to a nursery) is already painted yellow and brown which could work... but I just really wanna go crazy with the blue nursery since we're buying strollers, car seat etc in gender neutral colours.

I love the idea of fabric shower curtains! That's something to consider. I think the bed is a great idea too... invest now and have it for a long time. Makes sense to me. We'll probably try to get one of these convertible cribs for the same reason.

Cheers for all the boys! I will probably be joining team blue come December 17th, but DD holds out hope that she's getting her sister.

As this is my third, I am soooo over nursery designing and glad I won't have to do anything except get a dresser of some kind for the LO's clothes. Ok, I MIGHT get a different sheet for the crib. But that's it.

@Beebug: you're a CD mommy! Ahhh, I am serioulsy leaning towards cloth diapering. It just seems to make so much sense economically and gosh they are too darn cute! I have so much to learn though. I read a little bit here and there but none of my friends/family have cloth diapered and in this (backwards) part of the world, no one seems to get it. I'm gonna have to order all the diapers through Amazon and have them shipped, as well as the other stuff that I would need.

  25. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Glitter: I definitely don't think the economical part will really come into play until #2. I bought an insane stash (like 50+) of BG's (pocket dipes) and even buying some second hand the total cost was still a lot (I know being in Canada might be a bit of a factor?)

My post here, I talk about the costs I calculated:

    http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/anyone-who-is-cding-cost-vs-sposies-i-must-have-screwed-up

And while I think I am probably about breaking even now, #2 it really will, and then when I sell my stash, we will definitely see a little money back then too, so long as I take good care of these ones (so far, so good!). We don't even have any fancy prints or anything, pretty neutral and plain, it all realllllly works for us and I am glad I did it, but the way we did it, the cost really isn't "that much cheaper" even though it will balance out with a little more time under our belt

  26. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Glitter: we have fabric shower curtains in DD's room and love them. I searched forever to find curtains I loved, and then found some in the shower curtain section in target! I'm browsing target and amazon shower curtains now (I think I want to exchange the ones I just bought) and there are TONS of underwater/sea life themed ones. I like that they are thicker (and usually cheaper ;-)) than a lot of the regular curtains I've found. The prints are way more fun! I'm now eyeing this one: http://www.target.com/p/room-365-kids-dot-fun-shower-curtain/-/A-14714619#prodSlot=medium_5_51&term=shower+curtain

I so never thought about using shower curtains for window coverings. I have like 4 of them just stored because new house we went from 3 showers to 2, one being a glass shower, so only 1 shower that needs a curtain and all these nice fabric curtains! We have windows that I could easily split the curtain for two panels and it still be enough sizewise. Brilliant!!! @cookie_dough: Thank-you! lol.

  28. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Beebug: haha glad I could be of service the window in our nursery is pretty small, so we were able to use just one curtain, cut it half (and sew it up), and sew over the top so that it could fit through a curtain rod. I will have to take a picture! The window in DD's new room is really big, so I'm thinking we MAY need two curtains for it.

  29. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@cookie_dough: We went from bigger windows to smaller (in kids rooms), so easily could fit them. I am struggling though. Maybe it's a bungalow thing, but the windows are so much higher (safer, I suppose?) so I struggle with curtain height/length, plus 9ft ceilings. Annoying! I bought these beautiful curtains for our room not thinking about the new ceiling height and now my curtains are floods, lol. I will deal until I someday splurge and get my shutters and then no curtains!

  30. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Beebug: Ya, i'm struggling with length for DD's new room as well. For the nursery we just kept them long (although they aren't long enough to reach the floor) and haven't had any issues with her pulling on them, etc. But for her new room, since it's a big window it takes up a lot of space, so it would be nice to put a piece of furniture like a dresser or short bookshelf underneath. then then how does that work with the curtains? I guess they would have to be short enough to fit above the furniture...or the furniture would have to be pulled out a bit from the wall so that the curtains could be closed behind it. Tough decisions

@cookie_dough: I feel like this is where the internet is awesome. Surely pinterest can help with this? lol.

@Beebug: oh it probably could...but pinterest is blocked at my work and I never go on the computer at home...and don't have much patience for doing anything internet-related on my phone I seriously have no clue how to even use pinterest (gasp!)

I just got one (though, it's works too, lol) and love pinterest on there. I have an old Blackberry so anything "online" on there is next near impossible, and I try to stay off the computer at home, but I do use pinterest a lot more at home via the ipad, I like it! It's a great site for ideas of all sorts. Some of it is a little crazy, I like to stay practical with it, but do get carried away sometimes!

I am so jealous of you guys thinking about the baby rooms. We are in a 1 bedroom apt right now and our lease is up at the end of February. The plan is to move to a 2 bedroom outside of the city and then buy a house within the next year or 2. Even still we won't have a nursery to even think about till March and that doesn't give me much time. yea and moving when I'm 7 months preggo should be pretty fun too

  35. skipra

    pomegranate / 3350 posts

@Glitter: Underwater theme sounds so cute! I am thinking more about DS's room in our new house because we have more time to think about the nursery. We didn't do a theme for DS's nursery but generally the colors are pretty bright - yellow walls and some dark turquoise in the closet and dresser drawers. I think we'll probably go a little mellower with the new baby's room. Maybe light green and navy or something.
@Beebug: @cookie_dough: The windows in DS's room now are pretty big. We have blinds but they're not blackout and I made some curtains out of fabric that I liked. Unfortunately I measured wrong so the curtains don't go down to the ground, but are not short. We just made sure the curtain rod was very secure and have had no issues with DS pulling on them yet.

We also CD and have found it to be really easy. We put DS in disposables at night and when we travel or will be away from home for a long time. We only bought 12 diapers and have found that to be plenty. We'll have to buy some more for #2 because I don't expect DS to be potty trained by then.

  36. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@mrsog: We didn't do DDs nursery until 1.5m before, so totally doable I "let" DH do the heavy lifting and told him what needed to go where. I was nervous to do it sooner and was really scattered on what to do (and baby bedding is overwhelming!) so waiting worked for us! Moving is fun, having a 2 bedroom will be so awesome for you!

@skipra: I only had like 14 until the last few months or so, then just went nuts. I got it in my head I wanted a full stash at daycare for DD so we didn't have to worry about getting dipes back and forth through the week, so we drop off 20 every Monday and bring them home with us at the end of each day. That being said I still have too many, but hope with #2 and having a bigger stash I can never feel pressed for dipes!

  37. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@Beebug: thanks for that link! 50+ is a whole lot from what I've heard. I understand 20-24 is doable, but we'll see as we go along.

I live in Trinidad (island in the Caribbean) and averaging 10 disposable diapers a day (newborns more, and less going forward) would cost us roughly US$1,125 per year. So i'm pretty sure that even if we go with the 50+ that you did and spend about US$600 it would be recovered with one child.

Also, fortunately since Trinidad is a big oil exporter, our electricity costs are SUPER cheap. We are fully air conditioned and use washer and dryer multiple times weekly. Our bi-monthly bill (we only get billed every two months) is about US$50 to $60. Water costs are even less - we haven't paid a water bill since we got married over a year ago because the previous owners had a credit on their account which was passed on to us. But even then, it is highly subsidised and extremely minimal. So i'm thinking the initial shipping costs would probably be well worth it! I still have to figure out types and sizes and all the details to know exactly what we will need.

  38. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@skipra: Did you start cloth diapering from newborn stage? First time mom here and I understand newborns need to be changed about 12 times a day! Do you do laundry daily? Just wondering how you work with 12 and find it to be plenty.
