One thing I forgot about movement I am soooo excited for is hiccups!!! DD used to get them all.the.time inside and then even on the outside would get them around the same time of day, that was super weird, but so, so cool! Hope that happens again, that was so awesome.

I haven't felt any movement again the last day or so, hopefully tonight!!

@Beebug: oh ya, the hiccups are awesome! by the end, DH could feel them really strongly just putting his hand on my belly!

@cookie_dough: Ahhh I can't even talk about it I get so excited! DH feeling the movement is pretty amazing, too!!

I'm back from my (super long) perinatologist appointment! It was amazing - we spent about 1.5 hours having an ultrasound and concentrating on every inch of each baby. They are on right on target for growth. And we found out the sex! Baby A is a girl and Baby B is a boy!! They were very feisty, moving all over the place, and we saw our little girl kicking against the membrane between their sacs...right where her brother's head was! Looks like they are fighting already, haha.

Thanks ladies! Here is one of the pictures we got today - comparisons of their profiles. Girl on the left and boy on the right!

Hi ladies- I just spent some time playing catch up and reading your posts. So much excitement all around. I had a wonderful thanksgiving with TURDUCKEN! Unfortunately, I still have crappy acid reflux and cannot each very much, and I have to eat very slowly. Evenings are still really tough from the reflux.

@twodoghouse: 1 of each. That is ADOBS !
@Mae- yay for the first May girl. I love the 'skull picture' that was hilarious. My DH could not figure out what it was when I showed it to him. (I had never seen that profile either)
@beebug- wow. I did not know I will get to feel hiccups. That will be pretty cool.

I am still not sure if my 'movements' are baby or gas. Maybe it will get confirmed soon.

In other news- I have my anatomy scan TOMORROW! Yippee. It is a little on the early side at 17 weeks 5 days, but we are heading overseas for the holidays and I won't be back until week 22, so doctor said to do it earlier. Hopefully this time the baby will cooperate and 'uncross' the legs. I sooooo want to find out. Hats off for all your Team Green-ers. My Type -A, control-freak side needs to figure out what nursery colors are going to be. (Even though ironically, I already picked a 'green color scheme'!)

@Coopersmama: Yay for anatomy scan tomorrow!! It's so amazing to see all those little baby bits in detail! Let us know how it goes!

@twodoghouse: aw, they are precious! And it's cool how you can already tell they look different!

@Coopersmama: Yay!!!! Can't wait to hear! I was only 18w1d so I can't imagine 4 days makes that big a difference in terms of size! Also let them know how badly you want to know. I feel like our tech worked extra hard because she knew it was just killing us not to know and thats why she let me get up and run around and do jumping jacks hahaha.

@twodoghouse: oh my goodness! So exciting that you will have one of each! Glad to hear growth and everything is great and on target!

@Coopersmama: yayyyy on tomorrow! Can't wait to hear!

So I have heard from two friends who received cards! I was notttt expecting today, I only mailed them yesterday! Let the fun begin, eeeep!

I have two days off campus with meetings (but a 2 hour commute one way, yuk) so I am looking forward to not having to be so paranoid about hiding the bump!

@Mae- I will be doing jumping jacks at the office. LOL! Thanks for the pointers. My appointment is at 1 p.m. so Mission Water drinking starts early.

@beebug- Can i get a card too? They were so cute I can't believe you kept it a secret this long though.

@Beebug- your cards must have been delivered by the Amazon Drones.... ! Very quick!

  18. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: I would maybe call tomorrow morning and ask if the water drinking is really necessary. My paperwork said (and it was underlined!) that I had to come with a full bladder. Then when I made a joke with the nurse about weighing me after all the water chugging she told me that I actually didn't need a full bladder! Thank God bc it took forever and that would've sucked haha.

  19. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Coopersmama: if I had any extra's I would totally say yes, lol. I don't even have one to keep so will ask someone to have it back after Christmas if it's just going to get tossed anyways, ha!

My biological father is in GA, will see how long it takes to get to him! He has only met my DD once (and she was 10 days old so hardly counts!) but hopefully he won't want to amp up his "grandpa" attempts again.

  20. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

I will have water drinking torture on the 19th, always end up too full!

  21. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Beebug: So exciting about your cards making their way out! Have your friends and family been totally flabbergasted so far?

@Coopersmama: I'd definitely call too and see if you have to drink up before your appointment. I haven't needed to have a full bladder for my ultrasounds at all and I'd hate for you to suffer through that if it's not necessary!

  22. Coopersmama

    cherry / 129 posts

@Mae and @Twodoghouse- I will definitely call. With my crappy reflux, I don't want to have to drink more than I need to. Especially since lots of time when I put anything in my mouth I start feeling like throwing up. Even with my needing to hydrate all day (not only on ultrasound day) it is really difficult to chug a ton of water because it will all chug out.

In other news... my pinterest boards are a HOT MESS!! I have a board for the nursery, for the baby gear, for things to read later (breastfeeding sites etc), for activities for baby in the city etc. I have officially become one of THOSE mamas! I am having a really good time planning the nursery and researching my registry.

The one thing I want to splurge on is the Mamaroo! (Because I love a nice gadget) What I am not splurging on is a crib. I am going with the basic one since I think this will be the one and only baby. Plus- still have to buy a bassinet and a pack and play.

What are you splurging on? What are you saving on?

  23. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Coopersmama: splurge away on mamaroo, side note I had two gf's do the same, and their babes hated it......so just sayin', lol. Am I following you on Pinterest yet? I am struggling remembering HB names and Pinterest follows! My babe board is still secret, but DDs stuff is there. Funny our crib was our splurge first time, and will be this time! BOB was too, but it ended up being a gift!

I would love to splurge on a BOB double, but not sure I want a side by side, and we were gifted a baby jogger double (hand me down), so DH would kill me, lol. Probably will wear #2, #1 in stroller and yank out that double in bad weather, I love to run, but can't imagine running with both to justify the BOB (even though I would likely get it used).

  24. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: I just started pinning yesterday! I'm mostly focused on nursery right now. We're keeping the grey walls so I am thinking aqua, pink, and gold accents for our little girl

As for splurge v. save… I don't know yet! I'm pretty thrifty generally and a big diy'er. And also I really hate having more STUFF than necessary laying around so I'll prob buy only the real necessities and borrow what I can. One thing we did get already (which was sort of splurgy but my parents bought it for us) was a glider/ottoman for nursery and I looooooove it. So comfy! (Nevermind it is currently amongst my office furniture heh)

  25. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: ohhhh that looks so comfy, and nice when no longer needed for baby!

  26. Mae

@Beebug: exactly! I wanted something that would look nice in our room when we were done with kids

@twodoghouse: one of each - that's awesome! So excited for you.

  28. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Coopersmama: Right now I don't know if we'll be splurging on anything. Buying two cribs, a double stroller, etc. means we are trying to save wherever we can! I'd like to get a nice glider though! Love the look of yours @Mae: and love the dog photobomb!

My Pinterest board is a mess too because I have one secret board that I pin everything to when I'm at work so my coworkers can't see me pinning at work! So there's nursery mixed in with recipes and hairstyles and holiday cards. Oh well!

@Mae- I love, love, love that rocker. I have been stalking craigslist for a nice rocker. They are so pricy! Oh lordy!

@twodoghouse- Double of everything. Oy vey!!! You are going to have to invite twice the number of people to your baby shower

Speaking of - what are 'the rules' for what to put on your shower list. e.g. Can you put a breastpump? LOL... i know it sounds like a silly question but I just don't know the etiquette around it.

@beebug- LOL! That is murphy's law of baby-ness! I hate keeping boxes around, but I guess I am going to have to keep some of this crap around until when I test it. Either that or I am going to stalk craigslist for an abandoned mamaroo that a baby disliked.

@Mae- I also fancy myself a DIY-er and thrifty. My baby will likely be wearing hand me downs and thrifted clothes for the entire first year or two- LOL! The only stuff I plan to buy new is the layette- onesies etc. They just outgrow stuff so quickly

I think 'necessary' is so relative. I have had several different opinions on everything. Like one friend who swore on her diaper pail, and another who said they are a waste. Another who says pack and plays are a waste and are heavy, and then there are other people who swear by the $200 pack and play. Good thing we have until May to figure these things out

  30. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: They are! We would not have bought that if we were buying it ourselves, but my parents were really excited to buy us a glider and we actually came in under their stated budget so they were happy. If you are buying new, Babies R Us had much better prices than Buy Buy Baby.

As for shower rules… I sort of think anything goes? I have seen breast pumps on lots of registries. I think as with wedding registries, the big thing is making sure there is a big variety of items in various price ranges.

Also I feel the same way about the overwhelming-ness of what is "necessary"!! I have a few local friends who have offered a lot of baby gear either to have or to borrow until their next one. So like, I know we have at least a rock n play, a high chair, and a bassinet coming if we want them. I plan to just ask my mom friends lots of questions and try to figure out what we really really need because I hate walking into a house cluttered with baby gadgets across every room, most of which the kid never even uses. My current "eh" thing is a stroller. I sort of feel like we don't need one…. but I can't find anyone that thinks I'm not crazy haha.

  31. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Coopersmama: I put a pump on my first registry, ended up getting a certain % off because it was on there when I was more knowledgeable post-baby on what kind I wanted. I ended up using gift cards to buy it. I later returned it, but that's another story, lol.

The two best things we borrowed were a swing, and bassinet. I have since snagged the same swing used for all of $20 (score!), and currently trying to score a bassinet!

I buy all LOs daycare clothes 2nd hand, from one girl actually on this Mom Facebook group I am on. Her stuff is so well taken care of, well priced and her daughter is 8m older, it's awesome! Most of her "nice" clothes we are still getting by on gifts we received after she was born, bday clothes, etc, I try super hard not to buy her much, they do grow too dang fast, it's sickening if I think about what is stored in our basement!

I was so hung up for the longest time on a fancy schmanchy glider/rocker, ended up with a $20 classic wooden rocker off online classifieds. I loooove it, I said I would replace it, and never did, but may get a glider footstool for it for #2, then it would be awesome.

Bump pic, I was supposed to take it yesterday, 17w, eeeep!

@twodoghouse: Ahhh! one of each! that's amazing So excited for you!

@Coopersmama: Good luck today! Hoping the little one cooperates!

I really want to splurge on a nice double stroller...Totally drooling over the city select. But we will probably not, and get something reasonable. DD is still young, but she doesn't really enjoy being in the stroller, so I'd hate to spend a fortune and then not really use it. We have a really nice single (Bob). That was our big splurge last time. Oh, and our super fancy glider (but that was a gift from my parents)...which the cats have now destroyed. grrrrrrrrrr.

@Beebug: Shoot, you look awesome! I will try to post my 16 week picture from last week later today. My bump was perfectly shaped last week - must have been all the Thanksgiving food rounding it out. This week I am just huge like a moose.

  34. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

I forgot to take a 17 week photo but I have an 18 week one. I put on the same shirt from 16 weeks to see if I could see a difference. I feel like I'm the same size but the bump has migrated north a bit? I still feel like I'm not as big as I should be considering how far along I am, but baby girl measured spot on size/weight during the u/s monday so I guess all is well! Here's a side by side below. The left (darker photo) is 16 weeks, the right (lighter photo) is 18 weeks. I really ought to make my husband start taking these with a decent camera that isn't just pointed in the mirror in our messy bedroom haha.

I am having such a hard time thinking about buying stuff since I dont know where I will be living! same goes for decorating a nursery. after I find out what it is I will make a pintrest board - all I do is browse now every night lol Also, DH's grandma alraedy told us she would buy us a stroller since she just bought one for SIL and I know MIL bought some of her baby furniture too so I'm sure she will make us the same offer (yes, DH and his sister are spoiled). My parents financially can't give as much as them but I know my mom is planning my shower and will do all she can. I also don't want to go crazy with buying stuff that isn't necessary. I have my childhood bedroom furniture in my parents basement that I want to use so I'll just have to get a crib. SIL is crazy with the whole buying everything that is the best (most expensive) and DH and I both said we were embarassed for her that she thinks these pricey things are going to make her a better mother. P.S. sorry if i talk about her a lot but I see her so often and she drives me a little crazy with our different views on pregnancy/motherhood lol

oh also, yesterday I was nauseous all day and threw up after lunch and just felt terrible. I was so sad that I was still having bad days at 18 weeks but I think my baby was having a growth spurt! I feel so much better today and my belly is definitely bigger!!

Thanks for the welcome ladies! Kind of jealous of the team greeners..I definitely didn't have the patience to wait, but I think that is so cool!

    @twodoghouse: congrats on a boy and a girl..how fun!

@mae: love that glider. Looks comfy..that's definitely a good splurge..we got a cheaper one for my first and it was so not comfy if I had to sit in it for a long period of time.

@Coopersmama: I put a breastpump on my registry and someone bought it for me!

I also agree with borrowing gear if possible to see if your baby even likes it. I had to have a swing and my son hated it. Thankfully we didn't spend that much on it....maybe next baby will like it! My son loved the rock n play, but oh mylanta did we have a hell of a time transitioning him to a crib. That was not fun!

As for me, I have an OB checkup next Wednesday...kind of wish it was sooner. Baby movement has been pretty sporadic...I know it wouldn't be consistent at this stage, but it's still making me kind of nervous. I go back and forth on buying a Doppler, but I think that would make me kind of obsessive!

  39. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@mrsog: aw, yay for baby growth spurt! Also vent away! I can imagine that would be really annoying to watch her do stuff in a way that just doesn't make sense to you! I think the only furniture we will need is a crib and a dresser now. We have a glider and I'm recycling a book case and some shelves to use I think. Also maybe a little table for next to the glider I suppose. although I might be able to poach one of my mom's cast offs from her basement… haha.

  40. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Smar11: aw I'm sure everything with the baby is great. My movement is definitely sporadic at this point. And I really have to focus to feel it at all. I was staunchly anti-doppler because I thought it would make me obsessive (something about a daily ritual of checking to see if the baby is alive just didn't sit right with me) but I know a lot of people said it reduced their anxiety so whatever works for you personally is great!
