@Smar11: I think a doppler would make me insane. god forbid I couldn't find the HB I would loose my mind! I am good with going to the doctor once a month and knowing things are ok - usually by the 3rd week I start to get nervous and then I go to the doc and get relief. its a vicious cycle. I am also not feeling any movement yet so I'm in between that making me nervous and just chalking it up to its to early (although I'm 18 weeks so hopefully soon!)

@Mae: Your corgi is adorable! Yay fellow corgi mom!!! I love mine - she's such a sweetheart and I think she'll be great with the baby.

@mrsog: @mae: yeah I think the Doppler will be a no go....it would definitely drive me insane...there would be no way I could just be one of those women that checks weekly or just every few days.
I'll just have to wait it out. And yes @mrsog: I totally agree about the vicious cycle..I was totally like that the first time and this time too...I'd be ok for a week or so after an appt and then I'd go back to being a nervous wreck until I went to the dr again. It was emotionally exhausting!! Lol. It definitely gets much easier once you feel baby all the time!

@gingerblonde: aw yay corgis! I wouldn't object to a pic. just sayin…
@Smar11: Won't be long now-- I bet by Christmas we are all feeling consistent movement!

@cookie_dough: How much do you love your bob? Seriously think it is the best gear item we have. We use it all.the.time, my only beef with it now is that I wish I could sit up the back seat a little more, DD likes to be nosey! thanks for bump comment!
@twodoghouse: thank-you for bump comment!
@mrsog: I have been feeling mild nausea the last few days. Of all times, 17w? Weird!!! Vent away on SIL, crazy to think the way she does, oye!!!
@Smar11: I think I would be obsessive with a doppler too, I can't do it, lol.
I love Corgi's!! But we will always be Golden people..... but I would totally love to have a Corgi someday!

@twodoghouse: hooray, congrats!! That's so exciting PS-I can't believe you're 16 weeks already! Didn't you transfer, like, yesterday?!

@Beebug: LOVE the Bob. My only complaint about it is how BIG it is for going to the mall, etc. We got a snap and go, and later an umbrella stroller for running errands in stores/malls, etc. Although I do see plenty of people in the mall with their Bobs. It's such a smooth ride. I have only run with it once hahaha...I'm such a slacker...but I love it for long walks.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: Do you baby wear at all? I definitely haul the bob to the mall the very limited times I go, but usually if I do go it's a quick in/out so I just carry her. However we do wear her a ton still, so now I would probably just throw her on my back (in the Beco) and save worrying about where I can fit in certain stores, lol.
That is one thing I want to purchase next babe is a wrap!! I had sling and carrier for #1, loveeeee carrier, but would love to try a wrap for #2 and I never felt real comfortable in the sling.
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: I have both a wrap and a beco. I used them for walks when she was young (mostly last fall when she was 2-4 months old) but then stopped in the winter and haven't picked it back up. I just couldn't get the hang of getting her into the carrier or wrap without DH's help (and didn't put much effort into trying) and just found it easier to use the stroller. This time I envision using them a lot more since I will need my hands free to deal with DD...and it will make it easier for long walks if DD goes in the Bob and baby 2 in a carrier.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@cookie_dough: Totally! That is how i justify not needing a double bob, one in carrier, one in stroller! We wear DD on our back in the beco the most now. Sometimes (rare) front, outward facing, but only when she is pissy on the back, lol. Getting her on the back is "fun" but she likes going on so is pretty co-operative and I no longer need a mirror to ensure I have everything correct! What wrap do you have!?

Anybody reading any good parenting or birth preparation yet?
Or any experienced mamas have suggestions?
We're all almost at the halfway point!
@Mae: I don't think you're crazy about the stroller! I fully expect to wait it out on all but the most obvious needs - a carseat to get the LO home, some diapers, a place for the baby to sleep... maybe a babywearing thing. We'll be room-sharing and breastfeeding for at least six months, so I can't imagine needing much gear. I'm not even really sure we'll need much in terms of clothes in May. People definitely think I'm nuts.
@mrsog: I'm also still nauseous and occasionally barfing. It's starting to get old. And if I saw my ILs more I'm sure you'd be hearing about it!!! No worries.

@Mae: This isn't the best photo (her ears are kind of back, and not straight up like usual) but all I could find on my work computer. Her name is Winnifred - we call her Winnie.

@anandam: I've had two books out from the library for months now (Ina May Gaskin's natural birth book and the mayo clinic book) and I've yet to crack either of them open. Need to do that! lol
I'm torn on the stroller thing. People keep telling me it is a MUST HAVE but I just don't see why? I plan to baby wear as much as possible and that seems totally do-able for quick trips out or walks around the neighborhood. The only time I could see wanting a stroller is going to like… the zoo or a fair or something. But we RARELY do that anyways, and probably wouldn't be doing it in the first 6 mo or so… and wouldn't an umbrella stroller be better for that anyways? I dunno. I hate trying to think of where we'd store it if we never used it.
@gingerblonde: aw… she looks like such a sweetie!! My Stewie does the ears back thing too when you talk to him, which means we have a lot of pics of him like that too! Also I love her name!

@gingerblonde: what a cuttie! I am really excited to see my dog (english bulldog) and my baby together. I am praying he stays as calm and well behaved as he is now. He has been around other kids and babies before with no problems so I am confident.
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: I can't wait to see your pup with your baby either! Every time I see his face pop up when you post I just want to squish it! (in the best possible way of course!!)
cherry / 156 posts
@Mae: About the stroller....I don't think you need to get one before baby is here, but just be prepared to get one in case your baby doesn't like to be worn. I was all excited to babywear, but my son hated it!

@Mae: haha thank you - he is very squishable lol
I am still using the belly band but I think its time to make the switch to real maternity pants. anyone recomend some good/inexpensive work pants? Loft was just 50% off everything but their maternity pants don't come in petite and I was so mad. I need something for shorties (I am 5'1")
papaya / 10343 posts
@Smar11: right. I know that is possible. Hopefully not! I guess the only benefit of deciding early on a stroller is we could register for it and possibly not have to pay for it ourselves haha
cherry / 156 posts
@Mae: very true about the registry part..all of our big ticket items were purchased for us..stroller, car seat, video monitor. That was fantastic!
kiwi / 619 posts
@Mae: One thing that stopped me from babywearing a lot in the beginning is that it was SO HOT outside...the extra body heat from wearing a baby would have been too much in the summer. But maybe that's just me! And I guess that if it was THAT hot out, you wouldn't be taking long walks outside anyways. Also, I thinkt hat you can get some umbrella strollers that you can use from very early on (ie have a five point harness and recline a lot), but I'm not 100% sure.

Well ladies..... I am interrupting my doctor's appointment to tell you that... yes, I had to drink lots of water!!
Kidding- I am interrupting it to tell you that - WE HAVE ANOTHER MAY GIRL!!!!
She is healthy and on target.
Will post more later

@Coopersmama: hooray for your little girl!!! glad to hear your appt went well
cherry / 129 posts
Thank you ladies. I was shell shocked a little bit. The first 12 weeks of the pregnancy, I was convinced it was a boy. Mostly, because I was not 'as sick' and the old wives tales say that is a boy thing. LOL! But the last few weeks, everytime I would think or refer to the baby, I kept thinking about 'her or she'. MOMTUITION!!!
Now I am super excited. Despite being convinced I wanted a boy. None of my friends/family/co-workers is surprised. They all guessed it was a girl!
Yay- the shopping should be fun

@Coopersmama: Congrats on a sweet baby girl!
@cookie_dough: @Beebug: We have the Bob too and love it! Probably our most used purchase besides the crib. But I definitley don't want the double Bob since it is so wide. I didn't babywear much but maybe it was just because I had a hand me down baby bjorn which I know some people say is not good for the baby. I think I want to try it more this time and keep using the Bob since we take a lot of walks around the neighborhood. So you would recommend the Beco? Speaking of double strollers I'm kind of wanting the Joovy Caboose with the sit or stand option. Have you seen those?
apricot / 309 posts
@Mae: I know at first I was definitely scared to try any babywearing and felt best when he was in his carseat. We have the Bob and used the carseat adaptor and were taking daily walks a few days after being home from the hospital. But other than that we didn't really go anywhere that we needed to use a stroller for the first few months so you could really go either way.

Just something else to keep in mind when it comes to carriers...I had a c-section, and even months after having DD, I still found it uncomfortable to carry her in a carrier (I even still find it uncomforble to wear pants sometimes, let alone having a baby "sitting" on my incision hahaha). I definitely wouldn't have been able to wear her at all for the first six weeks (if not longer). Obviously you don't know yet if you will have a c-section, but if for some reason you know ahead of time that you will have a scheduled c-section (breech baby, etc), you may want to think of an option for getting out for short walks, etc, that doesn't involve a carrier. Perhaps others have had different experiences and were able to babywear soonafter a c-section...this was just my own personal experience!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: Good point! I have a low lying placenta that means scheduled c-section if it doesn't move. So I will definitely keep that in mind if it seems my placenta continues to low-ride it.

@mrsog: Let's keep each other posted if we find maternity pants that work well for petites! I'm also 5'1'' and have a super short torso. Hemming legs I can handle, but screwy proportions or loads of extra belly fabric sound annoying and certainly not flattering. I've been too intimidated even to try so far. Still doing the band now and then, but mostly relying on stretchy skirts.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@anandam: I'm 5'2" and I've had luck with Old Navy's short size for maternity pants. I typically don't care for their pants (they've never fit me well) but the maternity pants are working well for me. Just a warning though, the full panel ones have a really big panel for the belly. I'm having twins and my belly is huge at the moment and I'm finally really filling the panel out. For a while they would slip down and I'd have to make sure my panel wasn't showing at the bottom of my shirt! They are pretty affordable though, so I'm willing to let some things slide.

@anandam: I went to Gap last night and they had a few pairs of pants in the short or ankle length. I generally don't like Gap pants but I picked up a few pairs and think they will get me through the season (they were 40% off). I am wearing a pair right now and let me just say.. I should have done this sooner!! SOO much more comfortable than the belly band!! I also think Old Navy has stuff online, which is good bc you can always use the coupon codes and there stuff is cheap to begin with but they run our of sizes quickly so you have to keep checking back.

Hi Ladies, I know its been a while since i posted in here. We are 17W+4d today and up until yesterday, i was still hurling up a storm. I hope this passes really soon because i'm sooooo tired of being sick.
We are still staying team green, but i think my DH is ready to give up being TG. (funny, since he actually brought up the idea of being TG). Oh and i've also been feeling them move since about week 15. Its mostly flutters still, and i can't wait to feel actual kicks.
@twodoghouse: Congratulations on finding out their genders. I am SO jealous of you right now. You seem to have everything set and ready to go, names and all.
QUESTION to all May mama's, When are you making your registries public? A friend was asking me when i wanted my baby shower to be and i honestly had no idea when.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Apex: yay! So glad for an update Hopefully this is the start of a new leaf for you and no more puking!
I haven't started a registry yet bc I have no clue what we need. We're going to have our shower in March some time though, so I figure it probably needs to go public no later than late January. If you have yours done (or started even) I see no harm in it being searchable now!

@Apex: I had my baby shower when I was around 29 weeks pregnant. I wasn't too uncomfortable and miserable yet. And I still looked like me. Towards the end I was SO swollen including my nose
kiwi / 687 posts
@Apex: Sorry to hear you're also among those of us still feeling kinda nasty sometimes! Hoping it passes soon for all of us!
I imagine we'll start a registry if/when people start asking. So if your friends are already asking and you're ready to stock up on stuff, I say go for it. I actually really hope people will let us postpone a shower and the majority of gear-buying until a month or two after the birth so we'll have a better idea what's needed and everyone can meet the baby. I'd like to have a "blessingway" gathering with female friends/relatives beforehand, though. Maybe in early or mid April.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Apex: I haven't started working on a registry yet because we wanted to know the genders, so we'll probably get on that soon. My mom's family is planning their shower for March (30 weeks preg) because that's when my mom and sister are on spring break from school and can come to Illinois. I'm hoping I will not be too uncomfortably big then and I'm hoping I'll still be able to travel (all of my mom's family lives in the Chicago suburbs - two hours away from me - so the shower will be there).
My perinatologist scared me a little because she said she is very aggressive with putting twin moms on strict bedrest to keep the babies growing as long as possible. We obviously want them to stay in as long as they can, so we may need a contingency plan for the shower. I have no idea when we'll do a shower with my husband's family, but they are closer so it won't entail as much travel.
