@cookie_dough: i just read that Braxton Hicks may be painful and relatively close together, which is not my situation. They're tight for a couple minutes but this only happens a few times a day and with no pain. Hopefully its just my uterus growing or something. Glad your crampiness is over. Pregnancy scares are no fun.

@Glitter: I never had BH so I have no idea what they felt like. Actually when I went in for my c section, they noted contractions but I couldn't feel anything.

@Glitter: Yes, I'm definitely having the same thing for the past week or two and yes, I think it's totally normal not labor contractions. No pain, not even discomfort, just all of a sudden belly gets hard/tight for maybe 30 seconds. Not at all a crampy feeling. My midwife said she felt one during my 10 week exam, apparently they start at 6 weeks or so but aren't noticed by most women till around 20 weeks, and for others not at all. Nothing to worry about!
Basic instructions I got - if they're happening at regular intervals (like every 15-20min) or are uncomfortable, first step is to hydrate hydrate hydrate, then if they don't stop (or if they get worse, or they're accompanied by bleeding), call your provider or go into triage for evaluation.

@anandam: thanks! that's exactly what mine feel like and I have been slacking on water drinking lately. Somehow water is just not tasting as good as before (if that makes any sense at all). Need to just suck it up and drink!

@Glitter: weird! I didn't have BH with my first that I was aware of (though they did show up on my NST) so I am no help. Good luck!

@Glitter: Glad we can learn from each other! On the water thing I've been mixing a little juice into my water a lot recently... the sugar's probably not great for me, but I figure it's so dilute and certainly better than not drinking at all! Maybe that would help?
persimmon / 1281 posts
@anandam: ahh, i've been adding water to my juice.. which really still ends up like juice lol. I'll try adding juice to my water instead - much less sugar with a different taste should help.
@Mamasig: @cheesetomywhine: thanks for responding :), even though you haven't experienced it yourselves

@Glitter: yea that doesn't sound like anything to worry about, but water will probably help!
So, I think we maybe decided on a name? I'm not quite ready to announce to the world yet but HB is different… so: Penelope June! I'm going to "live with it" for a week to make sure its what I really want but I'm strongly strongly leaning this way

@Glitter: Hope everything is ok and the increased water intake helps!

So I'm really going to try to update our list in the next few days, if anyone has any updates for me (appointments, boy/girl, names, etc) let me know! I know people talked about stuff in the thread but its been a bit and it's really hard to catch EVERY update in pages and pages of threads

@Mae: I love it too! I've always loved the name Penelope. Cute
@twodoghouse: thanks! we'll see, i'm chugging away already

@Mae: I have an appointment on January 27 (perinatologist) and February 14 (lovely day for my gestational diabetes test, right?). We're boy/girl and the names are Alice and Blake. Thanks for keeping the list updated!

@twodoghouse: lol well you'll already be swimming in sugar for valentines then, might as well round it out with some candy!
My GD is on Wed and I'm dreading it… too much sugar makes me feel crappy anyways and I watch it really closely. Now I have a doc forcing me to consume 50g in 5 minutes. super.. lol.

@Mae: great name! I love it As for me, I am TG and my next appointment plus gestational diabetes test is 2/3. Thanks!
ETA- my midwife said that 23 + 5 or 24 weeks is viability so I have reached it!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: That's awesome! I never heard 23+5 but I'm there too-- so yay!!
persimmon / 1281 posts
@Mae: Next appointment is Jan 21st... no idea what it's for. I never know until I get there and doc starts doing his thing.

@Glitter: I still have no idea what BH contractions are!
Labour contractions though? Holy moly, lol
@Mae: Fun about an updated list! I have an appt Jan 16th (just a check up!) and that's it for me. Still team green
Names of the babies on the list will be craaaazy!!! Eee!
Not to go on the list, but just name talk, I am leaning Lauren or Catherine for girls, Colin still dominating the boy names, but based on DHs fam drama that came about this week, our middle name is a biiiig no no right now, but when things settle down it will likely be it again.
The cribs were shipped, they are coming from BC as per the tracking, so who knows when they will arrive, but it will be great to pick one, and then that will likely light a solid fire under my butt to get going on some stuff! I also may do some quotes for house painting for our entry way, hall and kitchen while DH is away (lol). I would looooove to get it done sooner, rather than later! He thinks he is a better painter than he is, and our entry has super high ceiling that would require staging/scaffolding, so getting a pro is just so much easier, so much as the cost will suck.

@Beebug: yay about the cribs! And decorating in general! I am so hyped about decorating right now. Our crib came in yesterday and I bought a Jenny Lind changing table on craigslist this afternoon!

@Mae: I hadn't either but I figured I'd take it lol.
@Mamasig: I LOVE the name Leo!

@Mamasig: In my Oct 2012 board/group we have a Leo, too, love the name!!

@Mae: love the name! will the nn be Penny?
I have appts monday and tuesday next week 1/13 and 1/14 - 13th is ultrasound and 14th is checkup. I am nowhere near a name a yet!! We are actually in the process of looking to buy a place and DH is interviewing for a new job and I'm trying to do the registry and work full time and I have been feeling overwhelmed. This week I have been very moody and weepy. I don't handle stress well normally so I'm trying to just relax and keep telling myself everything will work out. A glass of wine would be fabulous tonight

Thanks! It will be short for Leonardo which was my grandfather's name
papaya / 10343 posts
I also love Leo! Will it be short for anything?
@mrsog: I think so! But possibly Poppy. Nice thing about nicknames is we're not so tied to them. Sorry to hear about all the stress though. I tend to get that way too, I don't deal with a LOT of change all at the same time very well. I hope that you work through it okay.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Mamasig: LOVE the name Leo!
@Beebug: Your name choices are great! Can't wait to hear how the cribs turn out. I hope one of them is the perfect color! We have the same issue with our entry being really tall and in need of paint. I would love to hire painters for a refresh, but I can't imagine getting that organized before the babies get here!
@mrsog: I'm sorry you're having a bad week. I hope you're able to de-stress this weekend. Maybe you could have a sip or two of wine and it would do the trick? On the other hand, I had a sip while I was cooking with wine the other night and I thought it tasted awful. So maybe it wouldn't help after all... Either way, I hope you have a great weekend!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@mrsog: I totally understand! When I was pregnant with DS, we bought a new house, moved, rented the old house, and my husband switched jobs. Very stressful! But it will all work out. Even though we all want everything settled and prepared for the new baby, they won't know the difference! As long as they are fed and loved, they will be happy.

on a positive note - this boy is a mover and a kicker! He goes all day long and I have to say that I kinda love it! Also I was really indecisive on a nursery theme so I asked DH if he had any ideas and he said "robots" I laughed him off at first but then I found this and I kind of love it. It isn't to babyish so we can use it into his boy years http://www.amazon.com/Robbie-Bedding-Bumper-Lambs-Ivy/dp/B00FXD1UF8/ref=pd_sim_sbs_ba_1
papaya / 10343 posts
@mrsog: I LOVE robot themed rooms! We opted not to do a theme for the nursery, but if I had a boy I totally would've.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@twodoghouse: Thanks on name choices!! Nothing too exciting, but really happy we at least have something! I really hope the Espresso is it for crib and there is no red, I don't really want black!! All our walls are builders paint white right now, and it will be so amazing to make it more homey with paint, but picking colour just seems like such a task/huge commitment!

@mrsog: Looooove the robot theme! My little guy is constantly moving around as well. DD was way more relaxed when she was in there...makes me wonder if he's going to be a very energetic baby and toddler as well!
apricot / 388 posts
@cookie_dough: My MIL said that DH moved non-stop and even kicked so hard she broke blood vessels and made her bleed (scary) but that he was the best baby and slept through the night at 5 days! So lets hope my guy takes after his dad!

Makes me so happy to hear all these names! So many precious little new people in our midst!
@Mae: love Penelope June! For the list - my due date changed to May 11. Next appt for glucose challenge and routine check up is 1/22. And we're still way team green, don't even have strong instincts/guesses. Thanks!
@cheesetomywhine: Such a relief! Congrats on viability! I've been counting down the days... one more week for us. Maybe it's morbid but I also downloaded a chart with survival rates at every gestational age from here out. I find it encouraging and amazing that our sweet fetuses are working so hard and growing so fast!

Love hearing all the names. My next appt is 1/17 for anatomy scan. But we already know he's a boy. I think we are set on the name Lucas.

We had a productive afternoon! Cleaned out the nursery-to-be and assembled the crib!
(Excuse the yet-unpainted changing table which will be aqua and the random fabric I used as a faux skirt lol. That fabric will actually be curtains I think)
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: looking awesome! Minor change, garbage bin near change table, lol. We had space on ours to put it up and change pad level, you won't want it that far, unless you enjoy free throw shots Other wise loveeeee it! That will is still so sick!
