@Beebug: Oh I just went through this exact issue. I ordered a crib in Espresso, thinking it would be deep brown-black... nope. Got it and it was very red in hue, I would have called it cherry. I guess I learned that not all Espressos are created equal - we are going to have to return this crib and purchase one that is more what we had in mind, since all the other furniture we have is much darker. Hope yours is perfect when it arrives!

@anandam: I'm not the tallest myself, and when I wear sweaters like that, my husband calls them "swoats" (sweater-coats). Cape sounds much better! I'll suggest that. Anthropologie is my kryptonite.

@Mae: the straight down kicks/movement get me the most, so uncomfortable! I am trying to enjoy the movement so much though, before we know it they will be into our ribs, haha!

@gingerblonde: they have it in cherry too, so I am hoping it doesn't have it, but the reviews are there, so who knows, can hope it was a bad batch or something? Just no reddish! We went white with DDs stuff and it seemed so much easier colourwise, lol.

Did Christmas with my fam today, my Mom got me some fab maternity clothes! I am sooooo ready for the tree to get shipped out the door now though! We decided we may stay home for/up to Christmas day next year and head across country (fly!) On the 26th or 27th from now on, which would be soo cool! I haven't been here for Christmas since I began dating DH! My fam is very flexible, but as much for them as us it would be cool to be home Christmas day and not have to delay Christmas to days like today with them.

My goal is to settle on paint colours for the kids rooms by end of next weekend, would love to get on it, I just feel like the next 4m are going to go so fast!

@Beebug: I know! I hit 23 weeks yesterday. On one hand I can't believe how far along I am. In one more week I'll be 6 months pregnant, which seems crazy to me. But then on the other hand I realized I have 4 more months and then freaked out a little bc omg I have to be pregnant for four MORE months? haha.

I had a productive weekend though! I started my registries and I think I have them mostly done! I also ordered a crib and got the shower list to my mom. Things are coming along!

Unrelatedly, I'm having a really crappy morning at work and I HB for being a nice distraction

@Beebug: happy monday to you too!

@Mae: my sentiments exactly re pregnancy.

I am enjoying the kicks and movement but man, I have already started to do the pregnant walk. Getting out of bed after lying down for a while is a strain, and I'm starting to feel tired and slightly nauseous AGAIN. Ugghhhh. They say enjoy the time BEFORE the baby comes and is super demanding, but I would really appreciate seeing, holding, cuddling with the JOY causing all this discomfort

@Glitter: We got a new mattress pad last week (4 inch memory foam) and omg it has made alllll the difference in the world to me. For like the last month I have had so much trouble sleeping because I'm a stomach sleeper and laying on my side was waking me up 5 or 6 times a night with an aching shoulder or hip. Then every time I woke up in pain I'd have to pee. In and out of bed, flipping myself over like a pancake every hour or two, I was a little miserable. The new mattress pad makes our bed sooo comfy! It is sort of comically tall but I have had no shoulder/hip pain at all and I only wake up to pee now, hallelujah!

lol@ pregnant walk though. I don't think I'm doing that yet. But my back has been hurting me and I do the "stretch and hold your back for a minute every time you stand up" thing. And my bladder is feeling squashed. I feel badly complaining because I know I have it pretty easy and some people are very sick or in a lot of pain at this point and I"m just a bit uncomfortable. But I also know it is only going to get worse. I'm starting to get impatient to get the rest of the pregnancy and the labor over with and have our baby home!

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@Mae: i actually dont have trouble sleeping. I just have trouble getting up after lying down for a couple hours. It feels like my back will give way under me and i have to clutch the wall and nearby doors. It makes me feel elderly You're right though. We have pregnancy relatively easy so we should not complain.

I'm trying to figure out how to start attacking the nursery. It has gone from guest bedroom to husband's study to study/storage room so now we have a bit of a challenge getting all the junk out of there to... somewhere? And then the painting and everything else that comes with it.

Any of you ever used decals in your home before? We're thinking of skipping the paint and purchasing some underwater decals because there are so many options available and they look relatively easy to install. Anyone with experience here would like to shed some light?

    @Beebug: Happy 22 weeks!

@Mae: I'm sorry you're having a bad morning - I hope your day gets better! Yay for starting your registry and order the crib! Which one did you decide on? Your new mattress pad sounds heavenly. I'm having some of the same issues with the side sleeping and a pregnancy pillow helps but it's annoying at the same time. Maybe I'll look into a big memory foam mattress pad instead!

@Glitter: I'm right there with you the pain and the tired and the nausea again. That so-called 2nd trimester blissful stage was really short-lived for me. What's the deal with that?

@twodoghouse: We got this crib in black: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0035ER8FS/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and this is the mattress pad I ordered. It is really tall, but seriously I our bed so much right now haha http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083DNXIC/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

@Glitter: I feel you on the being-overwhelmed-to-start! We know which room is going to be the nursery but it is currently my office/sewing room and is set up as such. We have an extra room that I think is going to become the office and/or sewing room, but it is currently overflowing with random crap. Basically everything that didn't have a place when we moved into this house 4 years ago. The closet is totally full and it already has a futon, a desk, and 2 book cases in there (in a 10x10 room!). We bought some rubber made containers yesterday to start packing up unneeded stuff from the closets to move down to the basement. And we will probably need to move some extra furniture down there. I'm just not looking forward to all the work involved in re-shuffling everything! But we're starting to accumulate baby stuff and I know we need to clean out the nursery!

@twodoghouse: hah I work from home, and combined with my annoying morning and my exhaustion I'm so tempted to head back up to bed!! lol. I had the most random insomnia last night. I am usually a champion sleeper and always fall back asleep quickly, but I got up to pee at 430 and just could NOT sleep. I wasn't uncomfortable, just my brain wouldn't shut off. I ended up reading until past 6am when I finally fell asleep and then morning came entirely too fast after that hah

Ladies, night sleep is getting worse for me too. I get restless legs and generally wake up more. But on a positive note, this pregnancy is WAY easier than my first. I had so much pain the 1st time. God must have made this easier knowing I have a toddler to take care of.

Even though it is hard and uncomfortable, it passes and a few months later the memories of it don't seem so bad!

  15. Glitter

    persimmon / 1281 posts

@Mamasig: that decal looks really cute! I would love to see pictures of your nursery if you care to share, it looks like the rest of it is interesting and nicely decorated Why was it hard to install though? And did you end up having to toss anything out?

Another thing! Birthing classes! Are you and your SOs going to take any? I can only find ONE location in this entire country, but the package seems decent, I think. It's not like I have anything to compare to.

These are the main contents of the class:
Anatomy and physiology, i.e. how the body works
    Stretching and Flexibility Exercises
Labour positions – traditional and non-traditional
    Role of a partner
    Breech / transverse position
    Reasons for caesarian section
    The importance of breastfeeding

US$125 and covered in 5 two hour sessions which means DH and I have to start this Saturday (a new 5 week session starts this Saturday) in order to be finished by week 34. I do feel it is still early though, no?

  16. Mamasig

    pomegranate / 3565 posts

@Glitter: The picture is actually from the etsy shop where I purchased the decal. I did put the decal over the crib though.

My nursery isn't that impressive! Honestly, we never used it that much. It basically only hold DS' clothes. He doesn't even sleep in there anymore. I spent all this money on bedding and most of it is not used. If this one is a girl I'm buying new sheets and that's it - no skirt, bumper, etc

@Glitter: We did birthing classes with #1, was also 5 weeks (4 1.2 + hospital tour 2nd half of 5th week) and about $160. It was a joke and I wish we didn't go. Outdated everything in a bottom floor yuck room of a house just off the hospital property (house owned by hospital, lol) We did it in September, and probably should have done it in July or August (anywhere like 27w on) but I was literally a week from our due date when we had the hospital tour, lol. Are there any online courses? Our hospital network offers them online now, and that seems neat! I thought the social part would be good, but really Moms w/ babies after baby arrived I made better Mom social connections, not at the classes.

I have shared this before, but here is pinterest link to DDs nursery from our old house. The only thing I spent too much time trying to find/perfect was bedding. I didn't want anything themey, nor did I want bumper's/full baby bedding set, so ended up with fabric and having someone sew it (I ran out of time to DIY, lol) and while I am going to do that again, the time I spent trying to find bedding on etsy, in stores, etc and the cost? Oye! I was about $100 for everything fabric cost, and the work to be done (corkboard is the fabric, change pad cover x 2, mattress sheet x2, and I still have leftover fabric)
http://www.pinterest.com/jusontherun/chelseas-1st-year-room/ Pics at the bottom are pics I took of what it was! It's a completely different set-up (ie, use the ikea shelf horizontally for books and stuffed animals now, not vertically beside change table as in pic!) now in the new digs.

Here is crib for #2! I ordered black and espresso, want espresso, but it will be returned if any red hues! Will keep black if need be! Got it for less than half this cost via Best Buy, who knew?

Sleep has been okay for me, I am still belly sleeping with my one leg hiked up to prop me up a bit so I am not flat out on it. I find I am up either 4:45 or 5:45 (like on the nose, it's weird) to pee, and more often than not struggle to get back to sleep for a couple hours.

Hi everyone....it's been a little while since I've posted on here probably because I've been feeling pretty good and baby boy has been wiggling and kicking a lot. Now am in maternity jeans full-time, no more elastic banded regular jeans.

Anyone else's morning sickness oddly come back? I've puked the past two mornings. 21 weeks here. Like, wtf.

I'm still sleeping great, still on back/belly. I don't remember when I stopped sleeping on my back before but it seems like that time should be coming up soon.

Re crib talk, we took the side off of DS' crib yesterday in preparation to move him to the bottom bunk at some point before May. Last night was awful putting him to bed, DH had to lie on the rug next to him until he was asleep. Hopefully it won't take too long. I feel like I had no problems moving DD to a toddler bed but I didn't do that until she was at least 2 and a half, plus girls are more mature.

Also, I have my belated 20 week appointment (closer to 22 weeks) on Thursday afternoon, yay. Planning on asking my doctor about doing a medication-free birth, meaning no pitocin or pain meds. I know they routinely give pitocin with VBACs, but I'm wondering if that applies to me since it would really be a vaginal birth after vaginal birth (after c-section). Anyone have any experience in that area?

@Glitter: we aren't doing a birth class. From what i've heard they just aren't worth it. We are doing a hospital tour, and we're doing an infant CPR class. But as for labor and breastfeeding I plan to just read some books and watch some youtube videos.

  24. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Glitter: We're signed up for a multiples class in February and I might do a breastfeeding class, too. We likely will not do a childbirth class because with twins I think I will have a highly medicalized birth (assuming they let me try vaginally, it will be mandatory epidural, delivering in the operating room in case things have to switch to c-section in a hurry) so I'm just going to give up all the control and let my OB do her thing. Hopefully I don't regret that.

@Beebug: I love your DD's nursery! The refinished dresser looks amazing! I like the crib you ordered for #2 as well.

We have walls painted, storage furniture in closet, dresser/changing table (Delta Bennington from Babies R Us), and cribs (the Kendall cribs from Pottery Barn Kids) all put together in the room. My husband also dragged up one of the hand-me-down recliners that his parents gave us. It is turquoise (why would someone buy turquoise recliners in the first place??) but really comfy so that may be my glider in the beginning until I figure out what we need as far as a chair. I'd like to BF them both at the same time and I'm not sure a regular sized chair will do the trick. So we'll see how that goes before committing to a chair and a half! Other than the turquoise chair, we don't have anything else colorful or decorative in the room. I need some curtains and wall art to start spicing things up!

@Mae: I can sleep on my side well too, but loveeeee my belly, so am doing it as long as possible! Sometimes babes will kick or move when I am on my belly and I always try to ensure I then move to accommodate where she/he was pressing!

@twodoghouse: Thanks! We love refinishing stuff, we cheated on that one and didn't strip it down completely, and it still turned out pretty well!! It was a solid $35 find! Chair and a halfs are so dang cool if you end up with one!

Ok, confession. I did this to myself, so I cannot really be justified in this, but I didn't think I would feel this way. 2 weeks away from technical viability, and it won't be until mid-late February I have enough hours in to qualify for another maternity leave. I am scared shitless of having a preemie for a number of reasons, but this one, too. I think I just thought "oh we'll be fine" and that I wouldn't worry about it, but I am. Bah, silly (hopefully) irrational fears.

  26. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: Maybe the turquoise recliner will work? Sometimes I like bold colored furniture! I am planning to buy a cl dresser and paint it aqua

@Beebug: Well first of all, if you did have a preemie your maternity leave would be the least of your concerns I'm sure! But realistically you have no reason to worry! Which I'm sure does nothing to make you actually feel better hah. I actually sort of forgot until yesterday that viability is coming up, so crazy I hit it in 1 week! I don't know though, it doesn't feel like THAT big of a milestone to me because I know that even at 24 weeks it would be a rough road. I just feel like she's not done cooking yet so she can't/won't come! And since I've had nothing concerning I'm just not being concerned. But as someone who has random anxiety about other things I know telling someone not to worry does exactly nothing to assuage said worry-- so I'll just hope that your mood shifts and you can stop thinking about it!

  27. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: You are so right, *if* it did happen, this wouldn't be a worry and we would "figure it out" so to speak. I realistically know viability mark means mostly nothing, but it's just that worry what if type moments! Bah!

I am in a facebook group of Canadian May Mom's and one went into hospital with contractions/labour and they had to give her a shot to stop labour and she is in there until further notice. Insanity. My nephew was 9w preemie, so it happens, but you are right, there is no reason/potential issue at this point to think about it enough to really worry.

  28. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: ugh. I was just telling a friend that I hate that I'm in the stage of pregnancy now where people are starting to get paranoid about me. Like at my 20 week appt my doctor spent a lot of time talking about the signs of preterm labor and I'm like--- okay thats not happening to me so shush now haha. Also my pregnancy app said yesterday if I have any clear discharge I need to rush into labor and delivery to evaluate for amniotic fluid. I've had some, not much (sorry tmi) but that just seemed way over-reacting to me so I emailed my doc who got back to me this morning she's like--- yea no. If there is no blood and no painful cramps and you're not like, constantly leaking enough fluid to soak through your underwear you are FINE. Which I really knew, but its easy to get freaked out!

  29. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: It's like we go from early days thinking there's going to be blood every time we pee (at least that's what I thought for the first few weeks!) and now soon entering the time of "you could have a baby anytime".

So crazy. Cook little babies....cook!!! 40w! No less, some maybe a little more And I guess the twin mama's, maybe a little less!!

  30. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: I think I'm really lucky that I never had any spotting at all, so I didn't really worry much after my 8 week ultrasound when we saw things were on track the first time. I just feel like things have gone so-far-so-good with this pregnancy so I don't want to stress myself worrying about something that is unlikely to happen and I couldn't prevent even if I did worry. And I know that bad things DO happen sometimes this late but its sooo uncommon. And so especially uncommon in people who haven't had previous signs of issues. I just feel like everything is going to be fine and my issue is not going to be pre-term labor but more likely i'll go to 42 weeks and beg the doctor to just OMG-GET-HER-OUT-PLEEEEAASSEEEE heh

  31. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: lol. I think my issue is previous mc, DDs pregnancy was awful in the 1st tri for bleeding and scares, I am like dreaming up, ok....when is this going to stop being so easy?

My big thing right now I am finding is how sensitive I am (again, but sooner this time) to over doing it. Like....I can physically tell when I have done too much in a day and my body is like whoa.....you have to rest. I am trying to be very cautious of, and respect my body saying to slow down! I remember at 30w or so with #1 I went on this big hike on Cape Breton Island and I literally nearly killed myself I think. That was the last hike for me that pregnancy, and really sent me a message that I can't just do what I wanted to any more!

@Beebug: ah, I didn't know you had that history but I would totally feel the same way! I know I'm super lucky that this is my first pregnancy and I've not really had issues. But I'm prone to anxiety anyways so I know that if I had I would be a mess the whole time!

Also, lol! We're going to be no help because we're all like doooo it! Find out! heh.

I went to 41w with #1 and fully (realistically!!) expect to go late with this one, too!! I just don't want a May 2-4 baby (long weekend here week before US long weekend in May I think?)

  35. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: Memorial day isn't until May 26 so it really shouldn't be that late for me! I think I'd be fine for an early baby as long as she's okay. I know a few people who have delivered 3-5 weeks early and everything has been fine. And my family makes big babies. I was 9 lbs and my husband was 10. So I feel like if I made it to 37 weeks or so I'd probably be a-ok for delivery. Not that it is likely to happen!

@Mae: I mc'ed Jan 8th 2012, Feb 5th, 2012 I had a BFP of 3+ weeks preggo on a CB digi, I was like wtf, how is that even possible? I had insanely high hcg numbers (draws every 6 days) and then a level drop at 8w (early March), u/s showed one baby, with a heartbeat, levels kept dropping. Had IPS u/s at 11w4d and all was good, at 12w1d I had a massive bleed, was in the hospital all weekend (first weekend April) and sure we lost "it". Turns out she was ok and the thought then became there were twins, with the high hcg levels from the get-go, then the levels dropping, and the big bleed and so yah, 1st tri, especially just after an mc in Jan was nottttt fun. I think that was the main reason we did find out gender with her, we needed something positive to move forward with, and we really used that 20w u/s and gender to move forward and get positive/excited, because it had been so nerve wracking! I'll also add I nearly broke my ankle in the middle of the level drops (March Break) and was in/out of clinics for xrays (while preggo!) trying to find the break and it was also the busiest time of year at work where I ran two major events (3000+ people each) within two weekends (Mar 3 & 10), I was just a nightmare, lol. My memory is annoying sometimes with how easily that all comes back to me!

So yah.....this barely any symptoms easy pregnancy is still just so weird! Lucky I know, perhaps a "gift" after all the IUD fun in the summer? lol.

@Mae: Was your Mom early/on time/late for you? I know it's weird, but I based my Mom's experience with my sis and I (42w, then induced for both) and just got it in my head I would go late as well! Turns out DD came 3 days before scheduled induction at 41w on the nose, but I am glad I wasn't uber anxious at like 39w or anything. May 17/18/19 is the long weekend here, would be nice to have baby already so DH will have extra day off......I am already guessing that sounds like a good weekend to have a baby, ha!!

@Beebug: gah sounds like you have had all kinds of "interesting" medical stuff! Thank God for an easy pregnancy this time!

Both my mom and my husband's mom went late. My mom was 3 weeks(!!) late with me, due Oct 4 and went into labor Oct 26 naturally. Labored for a day before emergency c section and they discovered the cord wrapped around my neck twice! Apparently I was quite stubborn about not leaving, and I was 9 lb 12 oz. My husband was born a bit over 2 weeks late and weighed in at 10lb 9oz (no c-section). And it was the SECOND baby for both of them!

I'm mentally preparing myself for the fact that I will probably go late and have to be induced and have a ginormo baby.

I'm going to work until I go into labor basically I think. I work from home so there is really no reason I can't. Although I'm going to stop doing out of town hearings and stop scheduling court dates about 1 month prior to my due date just in case I go early, because that stuff is hard to reschedule.
