@Apex: Ohhh the Donkey is my dream stroller! My husband was nearly on board but I just don't think we can pull the trigger on that sort of expense!
@Mae: Oh you should def. start a thread on nursery layout! I'm so interested in what everyone else is planning! Ours is sort of boring because it's a smallish room and two cribs take up all the space.
clementine / 770 posts
@twodoghouse: Yeah, i'm actually not sold on the Donkey tho, mostly because it cannot fit into a standard door with both car seats installed. But the far cheaper $799 Stroll-air duo fits into a standard door. So that's my winner.
We are thinking of having them share a crib for a few months before we graduate to 2 convertible cribs. I think that might be the best solution for the limited space we're working with right now.

@apex: thanks for the tip on registry.com.
I started a private amazon registry and am thinking about just registering online and not doing a brick and mortar retail store. I've found that the prices are often the best online and for the most part, friends and family are pretty online savvy and probably wouldn't mind buying online. Plus, a lot of people have amazon prime with free shipping. Am I crazy to only do an online registry?! Has anyone else thought of this?
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Mae: just commented! I should warn you that I'm terrible at envisioning things all laid out though. My brain doesn't work that way or something.
@Apex: yeah it seems hard to find one that accommodates 2 car seats. The bumbleride does, but only Mico Cosi seats. A friend has offered us her barely used Keyfit though so I think we we will just do Keyfits in the snap n go in the beginning. Ugh, so much to consider!

@Mrs Hazelnut: I'm considering it! I think we'll do babies r us because it is expected, but for our second I'm undecided about target v. amazon
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Mrs Hazelnut: My husband's aunts (he has a lot!) aren't very computer savvy otherwise I'd be tempted to do Amazon alone!
olive / 53 posts
@mae: maybe I'll add babies r us too. Although everyone is pretty computer savvy, it does not mean they plan in advance! I'll probably need a brick and mortar store for those procrastinators!

I think I have my first stretch marks! I'm bizarrely excited about them. Probably will feel differently when I covered, but for now they're just little streaks on the underside of each breast.
@Beebug: I also started getting heartburn here and there - never in my life before! When it started I was like, Ooo I guess that's what people mean...
Excited for all of you starting to plan registries and showers it's starting to seem very real with all the kicks inside and the new year coming!
@Mae: Next list update you can change my due date to May 11 - we officially made the change at my appointment last week. Next appointment (and glucose tolerance test for diabetes) will be Jan 22. Thanks!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@caity713: Congrats on baby girl, wooo! That is so exciting!
@Mrs Hazelnut: No registry this time for us, with #2, no go. But I am keeping a list of things I'd like/we need so that if someone like my Mom, or Grandma asks, I can "ask" for needed/practical things
@twodoghouse: Awesome on start of nursery! I am getting semi-anxious to start, I am going to order crib this week, and start thinking about paint colour! Exciting to think about 2014 and the excitement (and challenges!) it will bring. I have a busy few months at work, and time is going to sneak by too fast on us I think!
@caity713: re: crib mattress. Friends of ours went cheaper/low end thinking it didn't matter and ended up buying a mid/higher range one about 8m in. They said they could just tell it was crap. They said the breathe-ability was awful. I really don't know what this means (lol) but it made us just buy high so to speak, and I will buy the same one again for #2, here is what we have: http://www.sears.ca/product/simmons-aero-sleep-2-sided-crib-mattress/632-000374017-8010
@Apex: If it counts for anything, both twin Mom's I know had their twins share a crib up to 4m or so! When they started rolling, they got their own cribs!
@Mae: I like option #1, but the glider where it is I don't love. With 11ft of wall on the stripe wall are you opposed to crib off centre? Crib to left, glider to right/corner at window? Would the dresser fit where you have book case going and you could do books differently (reading nook in awkward angled corner area with that other window?)
@anandam: Eeep stretch marks! I thought I was in the clear with #1, but got them after I had her on my muffin top/back fat on both sides above my butt/on my back. I was so bummed!! They did go away though. The heartburn has blown, I still can't believe it's back already!
Anyone else seeing linea negra yet? 2nd time + Mom's did you get it with previous babies? I can still see mine from #1 and wonder if it will come back? Will it be the same shape/look? Time will tell I am sure!
Happy last day of 2013!
I took a bump pic yesterday, I so could not hide this baby now, lol.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Beebug: Thanks for the mattress tips! Maybe we will put the brakes on the ikea mattress idea.
@anandam: I am having crazy heartburn these days too. Baby boy is way up high - under my ribs so I think that is making it worse. I don't go anywhere without Tums these days.
I had another perinatologist appt today. Things look good but the dr wants me to cut back on any extraneous activity/exercise now that we are past 20 weeks. Baby girl was 13 oz and Baby boy was 14 oz. Dr said they will start gaining quickly from here on out!
The ultrasound tech did some 3d images for us at the end. Usually my husband finds 3d ultrasounds creepy but I guess it's different when it's your own kid because he loves the pics we brought home!
Hope everyone has a safe NYE!

@Beebug: Nope, the dresser will be too long to fit on the wall where I plan to put the book case. It will really only fit on the long wall or in front of one of the windows. I think once I have everything here I'll need to just move things around a few times and see I guess. Ugh @ awkward rooms
also, no line yet. But I haven't grown THAT much yet still. I'm definitely showing but since I already carried weight in my stomach i feel like my stomach has just gotten harder and sticks out farther but is more narrow than it was before.
Anyone feeling their baby moving up at this point? I used to only feel her below my belly button, but the last few days I feel like she is kicking right behind the belly button or even an inch or two above. so weird! Still hasn't let my DH feel yet but my OB said with my build it may be until 24-26 weeks before he can feel her. So late!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: hmmm, I know it is an awkward room, but it seems to be a really good size Our new house has smallish bedrooms, so there's really no room for creativity!
I just went thru my closet, packed away all non-fitting clothes, and went thru all maternity clothes of mine, plus what has been given or on loan, and got everything out! Everything wearable this pregnancy anyways, lol......over half of it is perfect to be pg thru the summer, maybe they will come in handy post-baby, pre-weight loss
I was supposed to be back to work tomorrow, but am really glad I asked for Thursday and Friday off, and will go back Monday.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Beebug: It is a really good size, which is nice. I'm sure we'll figure out something that I like. I'm just so indecisive! Weeks after we got down to our "elite 8" for names and I've only knocked 3 more names off the list haha.
Yay for fitting clothes though! And 4 more days off! We are both back tomorrow, and watching office space tonight to prepare ourselves for reentry to the work world
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mae: lol on office space. My boss loaned that to me when I started 6 or so years ago, my first office job, and first grown up job and she told me it was a must watch, so helpful
Good in the names, we are pretty set on Colin for boy, but girls we are absolutely useless coming to any consensus, long list, nothing, lol.

@Beebug: Yes to the linea! Mine appeared early, at my first appointment at 10 weeks my midwife pointed it out. It's only gotten darker and creeped higher since then. Also have a dark ring around my belly button!
@Mae: Yes to the higher up kicks, too! Last night just before midnight DH felt his first kick. So fun, he says it made it the best NYE ever It will be worth the wait!
Annnnd, I'm feeling super bumpy today, so thought I'd share a photo:
papaya / 10343 posts
@anandam: aw, you look super bumpy! I can't wait until my husband can feel a kick! I feel like my LO is sort of shy though. She kicks me all the time now but whenever I put my hand on my stomach to try to feel she stops!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@anandam: I got a splotch around my belly button with the line, and it was so awful looking, I was mortified about never showing my belly in public again, but thankfully it mostly faded, nothing a solid tan couldn't fix? Haha.
All these bump pics with the fur kids in them, need to get my guy in the next one!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@anandam: @Beebug: Cute bumps!
No line with this one yet. I don't remember when I got it with my son but it started at the belly button and went down. I also got that melasma last time, which I hated. My neck and armpits got a lot darker - it almost look stained. I also got a lot of skin tags, too. All of it faded after birth, but it made me self conscious.
The things no one mentions about pregnancy!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@Mamasig: ugh, skin tags, YES. I forgot to even mention them, all over my ribcage, and bra line, so weird, no where else!

Hi everyone! I'm soooo behind on this thread, I don't think there's any way I can catch up
@anandam: @Beebug: awesome bumps!
@caity713: Yay for another May girl!
No linea negra for me yet...but I think I only got it towards the end last time. I've been pretty symptomless the last few weeks...although baby bean is moving around like crazy in there. Probably to make up for his/her late start on movement! I don't remember DD moving around nearly as much. Anatomy scan on Monday! DH is totally trying to convince me to find out what we are having...I'm starting to think about caving...but hopefully I can stay strong!
honeydew / 7230 posts
@anandam: @Beebug: Cute bumps!
@Mamasig: I've started to get skin tags too and mostly on my boobs. So weird.
I don't have any sign of the linea negra or stretch marks on my belly, but my chest is completely covered in angry purple stretch marks. That along with the skin tags is super attractive, let me tell you.
@cookie_dough: My kiddos seemed to be late movers too but now they are really making up for it. I'm getting really distinct kick-like movements now too. I'm hoping in the next week my husband will be able to feel it! Good luck at your anatomy scan on Monday and with staying strong on Team Green! Do you have any instincts that it's a boy or girl?
kiwi / 619 posts
@twodoghouse: I originally had a very strong "boy" feeling...but now I pretty much dont' have a feeling either way! I think the reason that DH really wants to find out is because his grampa is very sick, and we are planning on naming a boy after him (William). He would love to be able to tell his grampa that we are having a boy (if that ends up being the case), and if so, that he will be named after him. It's hard NOT to find out now, because I totally understand DH wanting to do this. But at the same time, I really want to stay team green! perhaps I can get the U/S tech to write it down and put it in an enevelope, and that gives us more time to decide.

Happy New Year, ladies! I have so much to catch up on here but I hope you all had nice holidays.
I definitely have the linea negra and my belly is super hairy! he is really a strong kicker already too. DH hasnt felt it with his hand but the other day he was moving a lot while I was laying on the couch and I had my shirt lifted and we could both see my belly jumping. it was so cool!
I did the gender reveals on xmas eve with the ILs and xmas day with my family and it was so much fun. these are the boxes I made for each of our moms and they opened them with everyone there. DH filmed it and I love re-watching the reactions. It was definitely worth waiting to do!

@mrsog: Wow, this is an adorable idea! I bet everyone loved it!
Happy New Year, everyone. In the past week, I went from:
- Feeling no movement to feeling pretty regular movement
- Being totally baffled by strollers to having purchased our car seat and stroller (Thanks, Lucie's List!)
- Really liking the light yellow we painted the walls and espresso furniture we purchased to having pangs of nursery regret and having no idea how to accent it
I guess that's a big week! Anyone else having nursery confusion?
@anandam: Love that sweater!
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: wow, big week!! I'm still so overwhelmed by the idea of all the *stuff* we need. I am avoiding thinking about it.
Also I feel you on nursery confusion. I actually had a post a few days ago about layout. And I'm very torn on what color crib to get. Everything in our house is dark mocha-y wood, and it is definitely our preference/style. But the nursery is grey and I worry it will clash and also that it doesn't look girly enough. Most girls' nurseries seem to have white and I kind of like that look even though I'm generally opposed to white furniture. But the big issue is my father in law has offered to make us a piece of furniture for in there (a book case I think) and he makes beautiful pieces. I know it is something we'll want to keep forever so I hate to have him paint it because I think nice furniture should show the grain. But then if I get a white crib and a stained wood book case I'm worried it will clash. And so I sit in indecision, for weeks.
kiwi / 619 posts
@Mae: I love the pop of colour of your blue desk against the grey and white! If you could find one, I would totally do a crib in a bright colour. But that's just me For the furniture from your FIL, could it be painted white but still show the grain? (I guess that would be more of a white stain than a paint?)
grapefruit / 4584 posts
No line here (at 21 + weeks) yet either. It showed up later the first time around too though, and took ages to fade completely. I don't think it was totally gone until around the time I got pregnant at 13 months postpartum.
I also really need to get going on nursery decisions. First we need to have a look around to decide if we are moving. Our current place has 3 bedrooms, so it's definitely workable, but giving each girl her own room then leaves us without a guest room, which is a little tricky since we live overseas and will have family wanting to visit. Our living room is also a little small for both baby gear and toddler toys, and I wish it had some books and crannies to create play spaces instead of being one big open rectangle. Ideally I want a layout with smaller bedrooms/bathrooms and a larger common area. But if we DO stay, I also have to decide if the nursery is staying a nursery and DD #1 will get a new big girl room, or if we transition it to the big girl room and make a new nursery. Actually, I don't even know if we will buy a second crib or a toddler bed - it's hard to guess if at 22 months (or even 26 months, allowing time for #2 in the Moses basket) Dd #1 will be ready to transition out of her crib or not. Eek!
papaya / 10343 posts
@cookie_dough: Hmmm not sure about the whitewashing thing. That sounds a little beachy to me, which isn't really my vibe. Thanks about the desk though, I love it! I do plan to paint the dresser a real color. aqua I think because I want the nursery to be less bright and more soothing I thought that'd make a big impact and I plan to get one off CL so it will need love.
kiwi / 619 posts
@PinkElephant: I'm in the same boat. Still no idea if we should get a second crib or not. I was really leaning towards NOT getting one, and just getting a twin bed instead, but DD definitely does not seem ready to move out of a crib anytime soon. I want to move her to her new room long before the new baby gets here, so she doesn't feel like she's getting "kicked out" of her room by the baby, so keeping her in the nursery and then moving her after the baby is born isn't an option I am considering. She is such a good sleeper in her crib, I hate to mess with that until she seems ready to graduate to a toddler/single bed.

So I totally forgot how big my boobs get during pregnancy. Last night my husband was rubbing my boob thinking it was my belly!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@PinkElephant: we just ordered a toddler bed for our son who is 15 months old. The kid HATES his crib and sleeps with us. Honestly, we don't mind but I feel the need to get him out the bed since LO #2 is coming. I sure hope this baby likes the crib and room!

Hi everyone! Been a little MIA because we've been so busy with our new house (FINALLY)! Need to get some work done on it and it involves lead paint so doing a lot of driving back and forth and still not totally moved in. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year's! Going to try to catch up a little but sorry if I miss something important.
@Mamasig: DS also sleeps with us and I'm so sick of it. What is your plan to get your little guy out of your bed? We are sharing a room right now and hope to do it when we're settled in the new house but I think that's easier said than done. @PinkElephant: Also not sure about getting a second crib or not. At this point we're going to buy a twin bed for DS and put it in his new room along with his crib and just see what happens.
@mrsog: That is such a cute idea!
@Beebug: You look great! No linea nigra for me last time and nothing so far this time.
@anandam: Love the sweater and the bump!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: I have a hard time making decorating decisions so can't offer much advice, but good luck! What do you think about a light wood (like without stain) rather than dark stained? I'd also try to pay attention to the shape of things. We picked out DS's crib because it has the non-toxic finish and storage drawer but now I think it's really girly shaped and it kind of annoys me.

@skipra: My house has two bedrooms upstairs and the master bedroom downstairs. There is also a room (it has no closet) that is off the master bathroom that we use as the nursery. That is his room right now, but he hasn't slept in his crib since he was about 7 months old. He is not the best sleeper and that is how he ended up in our bed! Anyway the plan is to have the toddler bed in our room and move him from our bed to the toddler bed. His new room would be upstairs but we don't feel comfortable having him up there all by himself. He's only 15 months old now. When I was pregnant with him, I was HUGE and couldn't go up the stairs towards the end. I just envision him waking up crying, needing me, and it being a pain trying to get up the stairs! My husband does shift work and works nights for one week every three weeks so I'm solo those nights. And then once he is used to the toddler bed, maybe move him upstairs after that? I don't know! I kind of don't want him in our bedroom with a newborn because I imagine the new baby will wake him up. Ugh, I'm just hoping it works out somehow. Honestly, some nights it takes him 30 minutes to fall asleep. He tosses and turns, stands up on our bed, climbs over me, etc to fall asleep. How will he do it in a toddler bed? Ugh, sorry for the novel, but if you have any ideas throw them my way.
Let's just say I hope this baby is a sleeper!!!!
On a side note, he fell asleep for the night at around 4. WTH? He has never done that in his life. My luck he'll be up at 3 for the day. Crazy kid!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
I ordered our crib for #2 earlier this week! I actually ordered 2, reviews online said the colour I was is reddish, I definitely don't want any red hues, so same crib in Espresso, and Black, it was on sale too, so here's hoping the espresso is it!
We bought convertible cribs knowing we may have kids close, crib can convert through their ages and stages and no pressure to move up based on next kid, hopefully that is the right choice for us!
Baby moving like crazy today. I feel like I don't remember DD moving this much, it is so awesome!
papaya / 10343 posts
Happy weekend folks!!
@Beebug: This is my first but omg she moves so much now. All day every day I feel like. She still isn't strong enough to kick through the pudge and let my husband feel (lol) but I can feel her constantly and I mostly love it… but its also starting to creep me out a little and I hate when she kicks my bladder. Which seems to be a super-fun game to her.
Speaking of-- Is anyone peeing more? The last few days I feel like I"m peeing so much more often! But (tmi) when I go its not as much as it would usually be. I'm wondering if my uterus is squishing my bladder. Is that a thing?
In funner news, I have it down to two cribs, just trying to decide so I can pull the trigger! Attaching the two finalists, but I think I'm leaning towards the spindle-y one. Also my mom just texted me that she was cleaning out the basement and found this sweater that my great grandmother knitted for me! It's in great shape and she's going to wash it so I can use it for our LO! I'm sure it won't be a wardrobe staple but I love the idea of her wearing something I wore, and something her great great grandmother made, how cool!

@gingerblonde: @skipra: thanks for the sweater-love! Clearance at Anthropologie some years ago. My husband calls it my "cape" because it's definitely meant for a taller woman Super cozy on snowy days like we've been having, though.
@Mae: Speaking of sweaters, the heirloom is wonderful! And I think the bladder smoosh is definitely a thing, and I've been feeling it, too. Apparently it only gets worse. I've also been feeling like my stomach is squashed and get super-full after very little food. Have no idea where the remaining 6+ pounds of this LO are going to fit!
papaya / 10343 posts
@anandam: ugh. 17 weeks to go. I feel like I just want my stomach to move OUT. I'm also feeling generally squished insides-wise and I'm wishing she would just move out instead of continuing to squash my bladder/stomach/lungs lol. Like my uterus has got to be the size of a soccer ball at this point and I haven't grown that much, so stuff must be squished!
