@Beebug: lol well that trash can isn't staying there obviously! neither is the light or the wall decor or the curtains actually. This was my office so we sort of just cleared out the big stuff and stuck those against the wall We will definitely have a trash can (a nicer one) by the changing table, and also a wet bag because we're going to CD!

@Mae: oh fun! We CD too, and ended up using a Rubbermaid for dipes when home, and I ended up storing them in our laundry room, not in her room (old house laundry was on 2nd floor w bedrooms). Not sure what I will do this time in the new place, as right now I have change table, dipes, and bin in spare room that will be nursery!

Morning ladies! I'm having a stellar day. Just hit 24 weeks/6 months/VIABILITY! And my husband finnnnally got to feel the baby kick for the first time this morning

@Mae: Yay for viability and DH feeling kicks!

Had some girlfriends over this am, and for lunch, used to live near them in old neighbourhood, their girls are 3w and 6w younger than DD and so we had a great time playing and catching up! DH is now out for the afternoon, roast in the crockpot for dins.....I smell a nap in my future!! Love lazy Sunday's! DD should be down another hour or so.

@Mae: Okay, I'll post it, but nobody click unless you're sure you want to see this! It's a .pdf of a powerpoint presentation on "Ethical and Legal Concerns in the Resuscitation of the Extremely Premature Infant," and for the record she doesn't include her sources.

There are graphic photos of extremely premies with zillions of tubes, etc. and numbers about survival/death/complication rates that some might find upsetting. DH refused to indulge in this with me because he knew it would freak him. I'm not sensitive in the same way, for me more info is just more info. But if anybody's going to start having nightmares or unnecessary worry, skip it! Our babies are all staying in there for another few months at least!

@anandam: Thanks, very interesting! Also I was a photographer for Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep (charity group that takes pics of babies born still or who are expected to pass immediately after birth) so I've already seen much more disturbing things than this unfortunately. I actually think it is a little comforting to see how good the 24 week baby looked!

@mae- congratulations on viability, awesomeness! I had not even thought about that, but that is an awesome milestone. And what an adorbs nursery.

I finally started clearing out my nursery. It is currently my home office.

Has anyone had moments of their heart racing fast.? It feels like my throat has pulse. Doc says I need to drink more water.

  10. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Coopersmama: Mine is/was my home office too! And no I haven't had the heart racing thing, but I have had a lot of weird stuff lately. I just sort of figure if it doesn't last long then it isn't anything to worry about hah.

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@anandam: Thank-you for posting the link, I haven't clicked yet, but will, and thanks for the heads up on what is in there.

@Mae: Interesting about what you have photo'od, did what you see have an impact on you? I am always ashamed of feeling curious as to what a baby looks like at certain ages/stages in a loss situation beyond early mc. Strictly curious as to what they're parts look like, and think it would make me even more sad The only thing I have really ever seen is preemie's who do survive how red their skin is.

@Coopersmama: All the time my heart races, and I feel like I can feel it working harder to pump.....it can't be a good thing? I need to drink more too, I find myself feeling thirsty more often! I need to get water drinking back into my routine, when I bf'ed with #1 I was really conscious of drinking enough. I just hate having to go pee so much!

    So! 23w today!

My innie is officially a flattie (and surely soon enough an outie again!)

Annnnd I hate heartburn, kid better have lots of hair!

  12. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

PS here is what I am talking about when I talk about kid better have hair for all this heartburn! This is DD the day after being born, lol. Heartburn was awful with her, but not this early in pregnancy! This pic hurts my heart. We said she looked like an asian-eskimo baby, we are of scottish and irish descent, lol.

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: I've been sooo thirsty lately too. I am drinking about 20-30 oz more water/day than normal.

Re: NILMDTS photoing, I didn't do it that long. I got accepted late last spring and I bowed out when I found out I was pregnant in August. I did have to do lots of research and utilize the forums on techniques for photographing very premature babies because you never know what your'e walking into when you get a call, so I saw a lot, but I only actually did one session personally. It was unbelievably hard. The baby I photographed had passed away in utero a day or two before she was born so she was not in very good shape when I got to her, although she was a bit older (I don't know how old but she was almost 5 lbs so she was not one of the super premies). I had dreams for weeks about her though. The youngest baby I saw on the forums when I was researching was 17 weeks. Honestly the hardest thing is that the way it works is there are all the photogs in the city who do this and then 1 coordinator. And every time someone requests a photog a group text goes out to EVERYONE and whoever can get there the fastest does it. So I got a text basically every time a baby died in Columbus. Sometimes there would be a few weeks between but sometimes there were 3 in a day. It was so heartbreaking to get every text and know a family's life was shattered. Ugh. That is why I dropped out when I got pregnant, I didn't think I could emotionally handle knowing every time someone in my area lost a baby, and I didn't know how I could face another grieving mom when my baby was safe inside me. I do hope to do it again (my status is technically just hiatus) after I give birth, but we'll just have to see how it goes.

@Beebug: omg soooooooo cute!!! My mom told me the other day she really hopes my baby is born with hair. I told her considering I was bald and I've had almost no heartburn she better prepare herself for a bald little baby hah

  15. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: Wow the text part would be awful. Knowing those families were going through that, and how often it was!

I think I will look at that link at home, I am too much of a crier.

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: When I was pushing, all the doc, nurses and DH kept saying "look at all the hair" and my doc asked if I wanted to touch it....I was like...."uh gross, no thanks" lol.

  17. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Beebug: lol! Yea no. I feel like the heartburn thing is true though. Of all the newborn pics I've done, the mom that complained of the worst heartburn had the baby with by far the most hair

  18. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Mae: If the hair and heartburn thing is true, these kids are going to be soooo hairy! (Taking after their father!) I would love if they have a lot of hair, though. Baby girl already has a drawer full of hair bows/headbands for the future and it'd be nice if we could use them sooner rather than later!

  19. twodoghouse

@Beebug: Oh my, soooo cute! Does she still have a lot of hair?

  20. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: aw! I have an entire rubber made thing full of clothes for our LO just from hand me downs and gifts, but no hair stuff yet! I guess I'll have to get on that

  21. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@twodoghouse: Yes! It thinned out significantly, but we have had to cut her mullet a few times, and the rest goes into pigtails daily since about 5m! She has the bluest eyes in the world and we always thought it was such a cool combo of crazy blue eyes and the dark hair, but didn't know if she'd keep the blue eyes or if it was just baby blue -turns out her hair has lightened (super light brown!) but the eyes stuck! Each haircut baggie of hair the hair just gets lighter and lighter!

So looking at this list guys, I can't believe how many May babies we have! 29 moms with a total of 31 babies! 11 Boys, 5 Girls, and 8 Team Green babies.

Although I'll admit I had a dream last night where I dreamt that I had the baby and it was a boy! I'm going to make the tech double-check gender tomorrow to be sure I"m not doing all this girl planning only to get surprised

@Mae: Thanks for the list - you do such a great job of maintaining it! I can't believe how many May moms we have! It doesn't matter to me whether it gets split by boy/girl. Whatever you think is easiest? Are you getting excited for your appointment and US tomorrow? Let us know what your glucose test is like. Also, I still have the US tech check every time that we've got one of each in there!

  27. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: I think I am equal parts excited and nervous! I'm really excited for the ultrasound because I think it will be awesome to get to see our LO again! And I'm feeling pretty confident that the placenta issue will have resolved itself (and also not like, terrified of a c-section if it doesn't). I'm slightly nervous about the gender being wrong, although I don't know why haha. I think I am definitely nervous about the glucose test, both because everyone says how bad it sucks, and because I'm terrified of a bad outcome. Being overweight when I got pregnant I knew I was at a higher risk for GD and I just really hope I don't have it! But I'm hoping my still under-bfp weight means that I don't? (I think I've heard GD moms tend to gain more? but who knows).

Also I think I'm a little nervous because it will be the first appointment my husband won't be at. He's going to the ultrasound at 9am but then leaving for work before my 11am glucose test appointment. It was awesome he was able to come to every appointment before, but now that it is a new year we both feel it is smarter to save his time off for the REALLY important stuff and leave after the baby is born, rather than him taking a full or half day for every appointment. I'm sure it will be fine but doctors make me nervous generally and I think having him there to chat with keeps me calmer.

I'll be so grateful when this week is over and I've (hopefully) confirmed that I am definitely having a girl and that I do not have GD!

@Mae: My glucose test was not bad at all. Why does everyone tell you it sucks? Is the the 1st one hour test? I went in, drank something that tasted like Orange soda and waited an hour. Luckily, I passed. I do imagine the 3 hour one sucks, though.

And we scheduled my c section. Leo will be here May 22 - if not sooner!

  29. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Mamasig: gahhhhh so exciting!!! Shall I change your due date to reflect that?

And yes, it is just the 1 hour test. I don't REALLY see why it will suck that bad because it is just 1 drink. Yes it is super sugar-y, but I could easily drink 2 cokes which has more sugar than my 1 orange drink. I've just heard people complain about it so much and say it gave them a horrible headache or something? Maybe those people had to fast longer or something. I'm allowed to eat breakfast so I plan to eat something hearty and not sugary (eggs I'm thinking?) so it hopefully won't make me sick to my stomach or give me a headache.

@Mae: So many May mamas! Great looking list

I had my follow up ultrasound yesterday and it went great. The placenta totally moved and the umbilical cord is supplying enough nutrients that growth and fluid are perfect. He weighs 1lb 9oz already!! He's in a great position but keeps his hands in front of his face and thats where I feel him punching me the most so idk if hes going to be a swattle baby. Today I had my OB checkup and alls good there except I havent gained enough weight so I have to eat more - I think I can manage that! Next appt. is Feb 11th and I will do the glucose test and get the RH shot. They gave me the glucose drink today so I can drink it before coming in for the appt. and my god it looks unappealing lol

Also we just put an offer in on a co-op so fingers crossed and prayers from everyone that we get it!!!

  31. Mamasig

    pomegranate / 3565 posts

    @Mae: yes, please!

Someone told me the orange drink tastes better so I went with that. I think my doctors office had two choices. You're right - the headache may have been from fasting. Luckily my doc schedules them 1st thing in the morning. Good think you can eat something! Don't worry too much about it. I'm sure you'll be fine.

  32. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Mamasig: I'm hoping it tastes like orange crush… somehow I suspect it won't Also they say to drink it cold so it tastes better but since I have my u/s at 9am and my glucose test at 11, I can't really keep it refrigerated! I think I'm going to pack it in a bag of ice in my purse?? heh

@mrsog: yay!! So glad to hear that your ultrasound went well and the placenta moved. That is exactly what I am hoping for. Can I ask, did they do an abdominal or transvaginal or both for the u/s? they had to do both on me last time because they couldn't get a good measure on the placenta from just the abdominal one. And yayyyy co-op! Fingers crossed!

  33. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Mae: I totally wouldn't worry about the glucose test. It's not too bad. I did it for my last pregnancy, and I didn't feel 100% great afterwards, but nothing too horrible. Maybe a tiny bit of a headache. If I remember correctly, it tasted kind of like non-fizzy orange crush But they make you chug it! (or at least I chugged it...maybe I didnt' actually have to hahaha)

  34. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@cookie_dough: ooo not carbonated. I didn't anticipate that. So more like koolaid probably, which I hate. Oh well. And yes, they told me I have 5 minutes to drink it.

  35. mrsog

    apricot / 388 posts

@Mae: They did both - I think transvaginal is the best way to check the cervix and abdominal they measured the baby. thats the way they made it sound anyway.

  36. Mamasig

    pomegranate / 3565 posts

@Mae: yes, they timed me. And I think it was five minutes and maybe like 8 ounces to drink? They had some cold in their fridge. I think if prefer it cold. My doctor's office has a lab in their office so it's all in-house.

@Mae: I'm super paranoid about the glucose test too since diabetes runs in my family, I was a little overweight when I got pregnant, and I've got two placentas in there so that ups my chances. I hope it all goes well for you tomorrow!

@mrsog: Glad your follow up ultrasound went well. Fingers crossed that your co-op offer is accepted!

@Mamasig: So exciting that you have a date scheduled!

@mrsog: lol, priorities! I haven't ever been on pelvic rest but I can't imagine my husband would be super psyched about it

@twodoghouse: fingers crossed for your glucose test too! Hopefully we all come through with flying colors (or um, low blood sugar or whatever it is they are looking for)
