@HayleyJane: Good luck on the glucose test! And thanks for the reminder to find a pediatrician! We need to find a different one since DS's is a little far now that we've moved. Has everyone else found one already?
@Glitter: So happy that you found a great new doctor! What a relief not to go in expecting to have a c section even if unnecessary.
@Mae: Love what you did with the nursery furniture! Looks really nice. I have heard that the baby is usually closer to your size at birth, not the dad. Hopefully it is true for you! I don't think there is much relief for the bladder from this point on. Even though baby is kicking up in my ribs, I get pressure from the head I guess on my bladder and when he starts moving around I will have to pee *RIGHT THIS SECOND* even if I just went .

Happy Monday ladies! I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend!

@Mae: hey better on your bladder than on your pelvic bone! My little man has found comfort there and it hurts. I'd much rather pee all the time.

@skipra: boooo bladder issues. I'm actually feeling a little better today bc she seems to have moved up a little. But I'm sure it will be on/off (and prob more on than off) from here on out.

I did find a pediatrician because our doc told us at 24 weeks to get on that (although I didn't actually do it until last week at 28 weeks haha).

@Mae: love what you did with the nursery furniture! Our furniture was just delivered this weekend (we got a crib and dresser from ikea) but it's still sitting in boxes.

@Glitter: yay for the new doctor!

@HayleyJane: I think i will be taking the glucose test on thursday too...we'll suffer through it at the same time!

I'm going on about 2 hours of sleep today. DD was up all night long with a bad cough. I felt so bad for her, poor thing. And now I feel bad for me hahaha. Most of Ontario has a holiday today, other than Federal Government workers...so here I am at work while DH and DD are relaxing at home. I'm trying to keep my eyes propped open and resisting the urge to crawl under my desk and nap.

@cookie_dough: oh man I feel it for you. Maybe a little coffee will help?

@cookie_dough: oh man that sounds rough. might be a day to push the caffeine limits… I'm sure one day won't adhd your kid right? lol

and yay for furniture! I was so excited to get it painted and ready to go, feels like the nursery is finally starting to come together.

    @Glitter: I actually don't like coffee (i know...I'm crazy). So I had a giant hot chocolate instead!!! Mmm...sugary goodness.

@cookie_dough: Hope that sugar helps! I would choose a giant hot chocolate over a coffee too!

Morning all! Hows everyone doing today?

I feel like this is a busy baby week. Tonight we have our infant CPR class and honestly I'm sort of dreading it, which I feel badly about. It's just so inconvenient, I wish they offered it on weekends! Instead its tonight, 6:30-8:30 all the way across town Heading out into the cold in rush hour traffic to a 2 hour class that means I won't get dinner until after 9pm just is making me cranky lol. But I know its useful info and I'll be glad we went.

Then tomorrow evening I have my midwife meet n greet. Sort of excited about that actually!

  10. cookie_dough

    kiwi / 619 posts

@Mae: Ya, that doesn't sound like much fun, having to sit through a two hour class after working all day! But at least you will have it over and done with. We never took an infant CPR class last time, but I really want to this time. I have a feeling we won't be able to make it happen before the baby gets here, which is not good!

I actually got a good night sleep last night compared to the night before. DD woke up a couple of times coughing, but fell asleep again pretty quickly so I didn't even have to get up. I feel so much more awake today than I did yesterday

  11. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@cookie_dough: Glad you're better rested today! I don't want to jinx anything but after a period of sleeping really poorly, I seem to have figured out my pillow situation/position routine to a point where I am sleeping pretty well most nights and I'm so grateful.

My latest symptom is super TMI but what isn't at this point… The last half week or so I've had a good bit of discomfort down below. Sort of feels like when you just get done with a 2 hr bike ride and all my bits are just sore. I can't decide if I should talk to my doc at my next appt to see if there is an actual problem, or if maybe the baby is just pressing on stuff that makes it feel that way? Or some sort of hormonal issue? Ugh. Pregnancy is such a gut punch to your pride haha.

  12. Mamasig

    pomegranate / 3565 posts

@Mae: I think I remember having that feeling last time. It just felt like everything was super sensitive down there and sometimes things just ached. It doesn't hurt to ask your doctor. I feel like everything I asked my doc about was totally normal.

  13. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@Mamasig: Yea I'll probably mention it, although I'm sure its somehow normal. I did mention something similar a few weeks ago but it was only after DTD that I felt like this, and she said something about increased blood flow making things more sensitive. I'm sure that has just increased or compounded into being generally uncomfy Oh well. No one ever claimed pregnancy was fun right? lol

@Mae: that's awesome that you've found a comfy sleeping position! I haven't been too uncomfortable yet for sleeping. I'm actually still semi sleeping on my belly!!! Not completely lying flat obviously, but tilted a bit to the side with one leg up hahaha. We set up our new bedframe yesterday and it's much higher off the ground than our old one. It's kind of nice to just be able to slide out of bed, and not have to push myself up off the mattress! I'm sure that your discomfort is totally normal, but like @Mamasig said, it can never hurt to ask.

  15. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@cookie_dough: Thats awesome that you can still sleep like that! I actually maybe could but it freaks me out a little. Realistically I know I can't squish the baby but I feel like I can haha. Our bed is so high, I have to hop to get in! lol. It is nice for getting out, although I think I'm going to have to get a step stool for postpartum because I can't imagine hopping or climbing up the side rail into bed is going to be comfy that first week home

@twodoghouse: I am working back from page before, I know I said it once, but again....your stroller I LOVE it. What a cool colour! Also, I think it was you (can't remember now, but I know it was one of us May Mom's!) who posted a pic your DH took in another thread, also love, love the pic, and you look fab!!!

@anandam: I track nothing, and I don't really say no to whatever I want, or think I want. I figure I will then drive myself crazy wanting it at a later point, so might as well get it overwith, ha!! Even when not preggo I am not a tracker, but except on rare occasions am not much to over indulge and can easily keep junk in the house and not touch it. I am pretty good with portions when preggo though, but mostly because I get full so fast, and then know/plan to eat later on to better fill myself up! Big meals are a no go.

@Glitter: Good to hear about new doc, what a good relief and awesome to have moving forward.

@HayleyJane: Awesome about doula! Ped and daycare will come! Eeep about babes in ribs!!!

@Mae: Going crazy over here over your furniture re-do! Definitely lighting a fire under my butt (ok....my dictating butt, put DH to work, lol) to get ours sanded down and done!! They look so awesome, how awesome is that to have complete!

@cookie_dough: Yuck about your night two night's ago, and boo about not having yesterday off! I did, and it was great! I am working from home today as my back if effed, so I am laying flat on the couch working, I don't think I could do a half hour of sitting, let alone day at work.

@Mae: Morning!! I am on the current page and made it "to" today! I get the soreness you speak of all the time, especially when I have over done it, or later in the day. So much pain, and definitely doesn't feel right.

@cookie_dough: Good you got a good night's sleep last night. Did you get the snow that came through here? They were calling for 5-10cm, Toronto got less DH said once he got in this am, but we got 10-15cm.....there is seriously no where for it to go! DH and Fin were outside shoveling this am and I felt awful for him!

DD and this babe will go to my family doc (jumping in on the ped discussion!). I love our doctor and not into looking for a ped I am unfamiliar with, and am always very happy with my doc's care, not fixing what isn't broken!

Had a good weekend, went to the zoo Saturday, best zoo day ever. The Tigers were roaring, DD loved that. Saw the 3 month old polar bear cub super up close, the three big ones were busy too, so lots for DD to watch. We didn't go too far into the zoo, but didn't have a ton of time (just the morning before her nap!) and with the temps we knew we wouldn't get to stay too long anyways. Did me/my sis' bday celebrations with fam Sunday night, DHs hockey team got knocked out of playoffs Saturday so hockey is done now. We love it, but it's nice to have it done and have DH back a little. He says he's going to "retire", but we will see if he is feeling that way as the weeks go by and he has to commit for next year.

Painters got in touch with us and are moving up their work dates, March 3rd they start, woo! Kind of busy time for me with my events on the weekends before/after, but it will be nice to have done.

28w1d today! Went over to old neighbourhood yesterday for playdate with two Mom's and their DDs (three of them 6 weeks apart Fall 2012!) and one is preggo! Due in Sept, so another 2nd time Mom, I totally bawled when she told me, so so happy for them!

I have a regular doc appt today at 3:30. I am not sure if I will be 4w until my next appointment or if every other week starts after this one. Fin is super happy I am home today, and that there is snow, lucky dog.

@cookie_dough: I am sleeping the exact same way, "on" belly, but one leg hiked up to relieve pressure.

I don't even know how I forgot to post this, but last night DH and I like pinched a limb of baby!! It was insane! Arm or leg (my guess is heel?) was like so clear/evident trying to press through my belly skin! It was creepy and sort of hurt, but DH and I both put our fingers on either side of whatever it was and "grabbed" it! So cool, very neat moment!

@Beebug: thanks! Can't wait to see your furniture when you do it, remind me what color you are painting? Also, glad to know i'm not alone in my weird tmi discomfort haha. I bet the overdoing it is the cause. I was on my feet sooo much cleaning Friday, then painting Saturday, cooking Sunday, and yesterday working on nursery stuff then errands. I am not usually that active during the day so I bet thats the cause!

Also, you should do before/afters of the painting, so exciting! I love house upgrades. I think we're getting our carpet done soon and am super excited for that too.

And that is so cool you saw a limb!! I think I still have too much chub over the bump to see anything like that, although I can see her kicking/pressing generally sometimes. The weird thing that happened to me last night was I saw her pressing out at the top of my stomach and I pressed down on her and immediately felt pressure on my bladder. Like she was all stretched out top to bottom and my pushing her pushed her right into my bladder. It was sort of funny/weird to really feel how big she is!

@Mae: I am going to walk thru house with ipad video and do before/after. For my SILs who want to see before/after! They were here in the summer when house was under construction, but haven't seen it done, let alone painted, so the request is already in for before/afters, lol. Plus the furniture too, I love seeing the differences. I wish we could cheat and paint over this time time, but the stain or whatever it is won't allow for it. Everything will be espresso, to match the crib now that it's here! We got to paint DDs refinished stuff, staining is a bit more work, but based on the results of what we have done previously, so worth it!

Yesterday DD and I took the crib out of the box and I used all the cardboard to make a completely colourable space for DD in like half of the new baby's room. We had so much fun with that and I will leave it set up until garbage/recycling day, lol.

@Beebug: That sucks about your back, but good that you can work from home today! We got a bunch of snow on the weekend, and it was snowing again this morning. Poor DH has been out there shovelling because our snowblower is broken. That's awesome about feeling a limb! Since DD was breech, I could feel her head at the top of my belly for the last few months of my pregnancy last time...it kind of freaked me out. There's was literally a baby's head like sticking out of my stomach...felt very alien-ish! I kept getting worried that I was poking at it too much, because I kept trying to feel if she had flipped or not. This time I don't feel anything...yet...

@Beebug: haha there is nothing better than cardboard boxes to kids. I can remember playing in them all the time when I was little! Its just so exciting we're all starting to work seriously on nurseries! I can't wait until we're all posting the finished products I am really anxious to get ours finished. At this point all I have left is touching up some paint on the walls, sewing curtains, and and then wall decor! (well, and getting the crib mattress in, which I hope to get at one of our showers). It won't be totally totally done until she is here because my FIL is making us a book case that I don't think he'll bring down until he comes to see her a few weeks after she is born, but it will be *mostly* done and thats good enough

  22. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@Mae: I don't feel started yet, but it will be so cool when it all comes together IN the room, so much work will be out in the garage first, and then bam....the room will come together fairly quickly once that is done!

I keep forgetting I need to buy a crib mattress! I saw the same one we have for DD at Target, but I can't seem to find it online anywhere to compare and it's not at Sears any more where we got DDs. Figure I will just stick with the same one.

    Appt was good!

Weight is up to 176lbs, bp was 130/60, top number high for me, but not sure what that means? Doc didn't mention or anything, so I am sure it is all good! Got referral for ortho surgeon, I likely need me left knee scoped again, so going to get started with referral and MRI, then have me go on stand by for surgery in June, double recovery, lol.

I saw the resident today, not my actual doc, he ended up coming in to talk about my knee, but when it was just resident and I (she and I went to hs together!) she looked on the u/s report from 20w and gender was not noted. I was SO going to accidentally find out today, no deal, lol. Not meant to be, I guess!

She offered a doc note for me for work to get me a better desk chair, it feels extreme, and honestly I don't think it will help, but my chair is crap, and I suppose it won't hurt!

I think I'm going to go to bed within the next hour!

@Mae: Love the nursery work! And I have soreness in the bits these days, too. Think it's probably par for the course. Mine feels a little more like bone soreness, though, like in the joints of my pelvis/hips, so I think it's just things loosening up. Baby has also taken up residence on my bladder for the first time over the last few days. Makes me think of you

@cookie_dough: @Beebug: I've tried sleeping like that and the LO protests! It's so funny. My shoulder/hip joints get really sore if I'm straight on my side for too long, so I've tried leaning forward a bit with pillow props, but the minute there's any pressure on the lower side of my belly, I get nonstop kicks there until I move back. Haha, I'm definitely not the one in charge any more.

@skipra: We just chose our pediatrician yesterday! It was a surprisingly painless process. I spent a lot of time in online research and poring over the list from our midwives, and yesterday was our first meeting, and we both loved her. So that was easy! Hope it goes smoothly for you, too.

@Mae: Your nursery furniture is looking great. I get the tender/sore/bruised-feeling crotch too. At this rate I'm never going to have sex again because the whole region hurts SO bad I can't even imagine it feeling normal ever again.

I've been MIA since we are moving at work so internet access and free time have been sporadic. Sorry for everyone's posts I missed! I did find out I failed my one hour GD test. Tomorrow I go back for 3 hour test. Fingers crossed its fine, but I'm feeling less than positive at the moment.

Last Saturday I had my first shower. It was fun but so exhausting. We got lots of great stuff and our house suddenly feels full to the brim with baby stuff. We got some great homemade goodies too - including quilts and matching lovies from my MIL. They are just too sweet. I also picked up a bunch of hand me downs from one of our friends so that helped out our baby clothes stash. Is anyone else cloth diapering? We decided to take the plunge and I'm obsessed with all the tiny diapers in our used newborn stash. Can't wait to see our little baby bums in them!

  26. Beebug

@anandam: It's funny I remember propping myself with pillows over Christmas, but haven't in weeks, surely I can't avoid them for long, the relief on the back is amazing propping with pillows!! lol on not in charge....we have no idea

@twodoghouse: Hope the 3-hour goes okay tomorrow! fx for you. We CD, but I didn't really do newborn sizes, had prefolds and covers for that age/stage, but then had a 9lb baby and didn't start til 3w, so we jumped into using fuzzibuns size small and BG 4.0's snapped down to smallest! But I do have a small obsession with my stash, and a large hate on for this washer in this house, I miss the one in our old house!

Does anyone have tattoo's? I am watching an Olympic feature on one of the Canadian athlete's with a whackload of them, reminded me of mine, and then I wondered if any of you ladies had any....especially any in any preggo stretchable locations? I worried about the one on my ribcage with #1, but no change! The other is on my foot, they both need re-do's in terms of colour, buuuut it's not exactly high on my priority list these days.

@Beebug: glad to hear your appt went well!! And totally get the better chair!

@anandam: lol cranky baby. Mine does that occasionally too if I tip too far forward haha.

@twodoghouse: yay for your shower! I'm getting pumped for mine. And yes! We are cloth diapering too. At least mostly. Our daycare doesn't work with cloth diapers so once she starts she'll be part time in disposables. Fingers crossed you pass your 3 hr test tomorrow!

@Beebug: no tattoos here. I them but I've never thought of anything I thought I'd like long term. I'm just way too indecisive haha

@cookie_dough: I start out on my left side but I do roll onto my back quite often. I shift between the two. I am not worried about sleeping on my back because I have heard that if there was an issue I would wake up and move. And I did the same thing with R. Weird but I cannot control my sleeping movements!

@twodoghouse: Yay for a baby shower! Such fun. I ADORE homemade gifts so that is awesome that you received a good amount. Boo to the 3hr test...good luck! We CD but like @Beebug: we used prefolds and covers until she fit into her OS. We use happy heineys

@Beebug: I have one but it is in the middle of my upper back so no worries about it being affected.

@Mae: Awesome job with the furniture and I love the light! So feminine

@cheesetomywhine: I wake up on my back sometimes too and don't worry too much about it. Also, if I wake up when my husband does, which is like 45 min before my alarm, sometimes I'll flop onto my back for those last 45 min. I figure I can't do much damage in that much time and laying that way feels heavenly !

Also, btw, we did our infant/child cpr class tonight! I was being cranky about going but honestly I'm so glad we did. I didn't know any of the info and now I feel like I'd actually know what to do, so-- worth the effort haha.

Sorry I've been MIA. I had to catch up on like 5 pages. You ladies have been busy

@Mae: I love your furniture! And glad you enjoyed the infant CPR class. I might take that one again.
@twodoghouse: good luck on your 3 hour test

Do any of the 2nd time (or more) Mamas have a Mamas girl or boy. My DS has a definite preference and I'm getting worried about how this is going to work with the new baby. I handle most of his stuff and it's not really my DH's fault because I do it because I like it but I might have him do more bath and bedtime so DS gets used to it not always being Mama. Anyone else worried?

@Mae: We still need to get signed up for a baby CPR class. Glad you found it helpful! We are starting a breast feeding class tomorrow which I'm excited about!

Well I'm in the 3 hour wait for glucose test #2. Today's flavor of the day was lemon lime - like flat, nasty sprite. Yum, haha.

How's everyone else doing today? We're having a heat wave (high of 40 degrees today!) so I'm hoping winter is nearly over.

  32. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: I'm not doing a breastfeeding class so I really need to get on top of reading some books or something! I hope this test goes better! Come on body, process that sugar! lol

42 and sunny here! We have so much snow that its not melting too fast, but I'm really hopeful that it'll be gone by the end of the week.

  33. twodoghouse

    honeydew / 7230 posts

@Mae: I've been sort of reading a book my friend lent me - Breast feeding Made Simple or something like that. It's not too bad, although it's a little "feel good" and less technical so far. I want to know the actual mechanics of breastfeeding, not just that it's this amazing natural beautiful thing, haha.

We are apparently under a flood alert because of all our melting snow! It's supposed to rain later so that will probably take care of all but the biggest drifts.

  34. Mae

    papaya / 10343 posts

@twodoghouse: I think I've heard good things about "the womanly art of breastfeeding" or something? I was planning to get it from the library. I really have no interest in the touchy feel stuff and quite honestly I'm a bit squigged out by breastfeeding, but I do want to know how to make it happen. lol. So hopefully its technical!

Same here with rain. It's supposed to rain most of tomorrow I think and that should melt the snow I think. Lots of flood warnings but our community is up on a hill so we'll be okay here.

@twodoghouse: @Mae: I took a breast feeding class last time but honestly I found the nurses in the hospital to be the most helpful. They would help get him latched and show me different holds to try. Once I got home I also had a friend that helped with questions. Hope your nurses are as helpful!

@sungirl: DS is kind of both. He LOVES his daddy and some nights just hangs around him. but my husband isn't always around because he does shift work so I handle the majority of baby duties most of the time. I am a little worried about how all that will go. When DH is home, I know he will need to take care of more which we are both fine with. I'm wondering how the nights when I'm by myself will go. Honestly, I think my mom will sleep over a lot on those nights. She watches DS during the day so he is very comfortable with her. Sometimes I get sad for DS thinking about how his little life is about to change. Then I remember I'm giving him a brother that I hope will be his best friend.

@sungirl: I hope so too! I'm moving to a midwife practice and they are all about breastfeeding so I'd expect they may help as well. Also the hospital I'm delivering at has lactation consultants on duty all the time so hopefully between midwives, nurses, and LCs, they can get me sorted

  38. Mamasig

@twodoghouse: I hope your Breastfeeding class was better than mine! I really thought it was a waste. I agree that hands on with the baby after he was born was more useful. I hope the lactation consultants at the hospital are good for you. I saw three different ones but only really likes 2 of them. Unfortunately, they were on the last days of me being in the hospital. I hope I see them first this time. Maybe it will go better for me.

@sungirl: DD is definitely a mommy's girl. I mean, she loves spending time with DH and they have tons of fun together, but she definitely clings to me a lot, especially when I'm trying to get anything done in the kitchen! It's almost impossible to get dinner made these days. I have to hold DD while I instruct DH on what to chop, etc for dinner! I'm definitely worried about how it's going to be when her brother gets here. I made DH start doing bath time with her a few months ago, knowing that it would be his "job" when the new baby gets here. At least that transition is done with!

I didn't read any bf-ing books, but we did cover it a bit in our prenatal class. But ya, the nurses/lactation consultant at the hospital were definitely a better resource in my opinion. The only problem was that being there for four days, we saw a lot of different nurses...and they all had different techniques/advice! So it got to be a lot of different opinions on the best way to bf after a while.
