@skipra: aw I could be wrong but I feel that mine is still cartwheeling. I'll go 2-3 days where I am feeling strong kicks down in the pelvis area (and on one of those days I got an u/s and showed baby was sitting upright with her feet right where I was getting kicked). Then for 2-3 days I'll start getting kicked wayyy up above my belly button and/or up near my ribs sort of centrally. Then she goes back again. Right now I think she's head-up because she's david beckham'ing my bladder.

Happy Valentine's Day ladies! My gestational diabetes test is done but I won't find out the results till Tuesday. So I'm going to go ahead and indulge in all the candy I want until then. Babies looked good on the ultrasound this morning, but Baby A is breach. Dr. said they still have time to flip, but they are running out of room in there fast, so we need to hope she goes head down soon so we can try a vaginal delivery.
Speaking of double strollers, my v-day gift arrived and we got it put together last night! We figured since we need a stroller anyway, we might as well order it now and call it a Valentine's Day gift.

@Mae: I think she still has time. We're just hoping my guy is going to stay put! I hope she gets into position for you soon. Those bladder and cervix kicks are the worst.
@twodoghouse: Nice stroller! Hope you have good news on the GD. I hope baby girl flips for you! Could you attempt vaginal delivery if baby boy is head down only but coming first? I thought sometimes the second twin flips after the first one is born?
papaya / 10343 posts
@twodoghouse: cute stroller! Also, baby (Alice?) needs to flip! That's so cool that they'll let you try a vaginal delivery though. I always thought that they didn't let twin moms do that in most places and twins just = automatic c-section. I hope that she flips so you can maybe avoid a c-section!
@skipra: I know, hoping she flips and sticks soon! Maybe I should try some cartwheels myself to see if I can spin her into position haha

@Mae: I never knew with the 1st and still don't know with this one what he is kicking me with and where. I have never felt it in the ribs or bladder. I just feel little thumps or wiggles and I just started to feel pressure like he is stretching. I wonder if it's because both times I've had an anterior placenta?
With my 1st he was head down by this point and didn't move. My doc could tell by feeling my belly and she could tell where his butt was. I thought that was so cool. I feel like little Leo definitely wiggles around more than his brother. I wonder if he's just smaller or his brother stretched my insides out real good - LOL
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: I bet the placenta has something to do with it! I don't know where mine is but I know the first tech told me that it was in a position that should let me feel her movements really clearly. I can feel specifically where she kicks and a lot of times I can see the little bump of her foot, when its really high (I can no longer see below my belly button). I also feel stretching sometimes.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@skipra: Baby girl is down by my cervix, so she'll need to be born first. As long as she's head down, (doesn't really matter what baby boy's position is) we can try vaginal!
@Mae: My office has really good twin vaginal delivery rates so I'm hoping we can make it work. But Alice needs to get with the program, first! My office does make you deliver in the OR with an epidural though in case it switches to a c-section halfway through (lovely thought!). Also, apparently sometimes the doctor's need to get a little more involved (um, hands and stuff all the way up there to get the 2nd baby out if he doesn't feel like following his sister out) so epidural is pretty much a must. I'm ok with that though. I just want to avoid a c-section!

@Beebug: so cute! Thanks for the visual.
@skipra: I didn't use an insert, just a rolled receiving blanket to prop her up high enough. Sometimes two when she was really small. She was born in late June so it was summer. She seemed to do okay in it despite the heat!
@twodoghouse: love the stroller! I hope Alice moves for you! Also good luck with your gd results. I assume since I never heard back that I passed? If not, I am certainly eating like I did

Appointment last night - was given the sugar drink and lab orders for glucose test. That's on the docket for Monday. I have an answer to the pelvic pain - she is sitting very, very low and is currently breech. That is why I am experiencing the feeling of pressure and bruising on the pelvic bone. Good to know - hope she decides to relocate sometime soon!
Also... I was talked to again about my weight gain. The word the doctor used to describe it was "bizarre." He even had me step back on the scale because he thought maybe the nurse typed it wrong. Sadly, that was not the case. I don't know what to do, ladies. I swear that I am not a total pig and I am eating healthy meals and snacks. I get exercise once or twice a week, in addition to the healthy amount of walking I do each day for my work commute. I could stand to get more, sure, but I feel like my food and exercise habits are NOT bad enough to warrant the insane amount of weight I have gained. It's really bad, I feel ashamed and very insecure. I know it is all for a good cause, but I am so afraid of taking the glucose test or of putting her at risk somehow.
Sorry for the rant, just feeling kind of bad today.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@gingerblonde: Do not feel bad about the weight gain! It sounds like you are doing what you need to do. And your body is doing what it needs to do for a healthy baby. We can't always control how much we gain. It could also be water weight. Everyone is different. Just focus on a healthy baby!
With my last pregnancy, my OB never mentioned anything about my weight gain, but my allergist did. He basically fussed at me for gaining too much (I gained 40lbs total). I remember going home and crying.
pear / 1586 posts
@gingerblonde: As don't feel bad! I am sure your body is just gaining what it needs to. Everyone gains differently. I hope your little lady moves soon.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@gingerblonde: I'm so sorry you're stressing about weight gain.I don't have any real advice, but I think @cheesetomywhine: and @Mamasig: are right - your body is doing what it needs to do to grow a happy, healthy little girl.
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: I'm sorry you're dealing with the unexplained weight gain! I'm sure it is just your body doing what it needs. As long as you're eating well and moving, it will be fine. One of my good friends (who is actually on the boards here!) is like a rock star athlete cross fitter who ate well and exercised up until like 1 week before she gave birth and I'm pretty sure she told me she gained like 60 or 65 lbs. She wasn't doing anything wrong and she her baby girl was totally fine! (and she did not have gd!). It was just what her body needed and after she had the baby the weight came off.

@twodoghouse: LOVE the colour of the stroller! What kind is that one!? I am sure you've mentioned it, I'm brainless!
@gingerblonde: I hope this is okay to ask, and maybe you mentioned it, but where is your weight gain at?! I hate that your doc said "bizarre", everyone is so different!! I gained 60lbs with #1, and I looked totally healthy, it was all belly, and regardless of how the weight looks, we all gain differently! Don't feel bad at all, like you said you are eating as you should, exercising as you can, you're doing your best, babes will grow and try not to be ashamed at all -easier said than done, I am sure.
Long weekend this weekend, woo!

@Mamasig: @cheesetomywhine: @twodoghouse: @Mae: Thanks, ladies.. I really appreciate everything you said. I am trying hard to think that it's just what my body needs.. but it gets hard when I am regularly asked if I'm having twins.. if I'm really due in May.. am I certain that I'm not about to give birth. Haha. Some people. I know I'm doing what I can to be healthy, it must just be my body's reaction to pregnancy.
@Beebug: We got married on 8/11/13. I weighed 135 pounds that morning. I got pregnant on our honeymoon, somehow. By the time I went to my first OB appointment, I weighed in at 148. As of yesterday, the scale at the doctor says I weigh 185. Therefore, 50 pounds have been gained since I got pregnant. At this rate, with an entire trimester to go... I'm going to be really heavy by the time I give birth. I'm only 5'3.
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: Well holding yourself to wedding weight standard is just crazy! I'd go from your first doc visit weight, which is what my doc insists on using, even though I was sick 1st tri and actually weighed less at that appointment. If I don't get credit for the weight I lost between BFP dates and 8 weeks, you shouldn't get penalized for weight you gained before your appointment! So lets just call it 37 lbs.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@gingerblonde: We sound similar! I'm 5"2' and got pregnant with my 1st about 3 months after my wedding. Honestly, I think part of your weight gain may also be related to being a newlywed! From the time of my wedding to getting pregnant, I had gained about 15 pounds in 3 months. And people asked me all of the time if it was twins and if I was almost due. I was huge, but now I know that is just how I carry. I'm short! And I did have a huge baby! But you know what, by the time DS was 3 months old I had lost all the baby weight. Granted , my size was different because my body was now different, but it fell off. Everyone's experience is different. I know it's hard to hear people make comments about your size, but please just try to ignore them. You are creating life!!!!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@gingerblonde: I agree you can't go by your wedding weight! Especially since I doubt your doctor weighed you on his scale. It probably would've been like 5 lbs heavier. Then add in a couple pounds for vacation. Totally not all pregnancy weight. It must just be what your body needs. There were a few weeks where I gained several pounds and now I haven't really gained anything in like 2 weeks. I think some people put on most weight in the second trimester and some even lose a little right at the very end. Don't stress about it!

@Mae: I just went to BRU to check out the color of the chair. Love it and can't wait for DH to pick it up after work. How funny that we bought the same one!

@Mamasig: good point about the newlywed 15. Or in my case, the newlywed 30 the first year we were married. Oof. lol. I did lose 20 of that prior to getting pregnant though, but that first year man…. happy pounds.
@skipra: yay! glad you love it.

@gingerblonde: I'm going through this with my weight, too. The only thing I think I've changed is that I don't let myself skip so many meals (before I would get caught up in work or whatever and easily go 12hrs without eating or drinking - but that couldn't be desirable in prenancy!) I've gotten little lectures at my last 2 appointments about not doing anything (ie getting fat) that could compromise baby growing to a size that fits through my pelvis. Such a scary thing to say! I don't know what to do. I'm only 5'1 so they seem to think I should gain less, like max 25lbs, which I surpassed by 20 weeks. My uterus has also been measuring ahead by 2-4 weeks the whole time, but my dates are certain, so I think they're worried that I'm growing a huge baby. Other parts of me like hips/thighs have rounded a little but not at all in a way that seems abnormal to me or DH. It's very frustrating. I dread my next weigh in. They always do a double take as sort of sigh. I think I'll probably be sent for another sono after this appointment to check baby's weight/growth. Like you said, I just hope I'm not unwittingly hurting him/her!

On the weight thing, are other people tracking their intake carefully or anything? Limiting portions? Pregnancy doesnt seem like a time to ignore hunger so I just eat when hungry, which is every 3-4hrs, with three meals basically resembling pre-pregnancy and then some snacks (like fruit) between. Sometimes meals even seem smaller than usual because I get full so fast. I've used a calorie-counting app to check myself and some days I go over by a little, but some days I'm also under. I don't want to e neurotic, just curious what others are doing.

@anandam: I started out this pregnancy watching what I ate and mentally counting calories, but that went out the window when I realized I was gaining at least a pound a week right off the bat anyway...I figured if I'm going to gain that much I might as well relax and enjoy myself a little. I do try to keep it balanced, like if I have a fatty/carby dinner planned, I will have a salad for lunch, or if I eat cake or something for a snack I'll do a lighter dinner. I just feel like my body is going to do its thing and all I can do is ride this train until May when I can start getting back to my normal self again.
@gingerblonde: I had gained 9 pounds since my last appointment at 25 weeks, so I feel you. My doctor didn't say a thing about it though.
@twodoghouse: We have a Bumbleride Flyte and love it. Pretty color!

Also ugh I've been wearing a non-maternity shirt all day and it is KILLING me at this point. I feel like I'm 9 months pregnant. Maybe it's all the chocolate I've been stuffing my face with all day.
papaya / 10343 posts
@anandam: I don't track anything but sugar, but that is the norm for me pregnancy or not. I just think I feel better and it is healthier if I stay under 25g added sugar/day, although I do usually have 1-2 splurge days/week (I try not to go CRAZY, but like 1 coke blows my whole day @ 39g sugar, so thats a splurge item).
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@anandam: I'm on record at the midwives office for having gained 20 lbs so far. No one has seemed concerned but I went down to 118 on my home scale but never lower than 125 at the office so I think I've gained more and was hoping to keep it to 25-30 lbs max but I'm already at 25 by my calculation. Oh well. I gained the most during the weeks I was staying with my parents. At first around Christmas so obviously I ate too many cookies and then going out to eat a lot because my dad and step mom hate eating at home. Things seem to have slowed down now that I've been home a couple weeks. I don't watch what I eat per se - just try to make sure I'm eating protein because I don't really eat meat. If it were up to me I'd just eat fruit and chocolate all the time but that's not really balanced so I try to add in some eggs, cheese, yogurt, beans, etc. I make veggie soup with beans or lentils a lot and I'm going to try adding in some protein drinks now that I'm in the the third trimester.
cherry / 184 posts
@Mae: I think I like your logic here. Subtracting 15 pounds or so off the total gained makes the number slightly less terrifying. It's still pretty darn high... but less "bizarre".
@Mamasig: @skipra: Thanks, ladies. I am going to try to let it go and not let it get the best of me. It's no way to go through life!
I woke up in the middle of the night with my first-ever pregnancy leg cramp! It was awesome! Oh wait. That's the opposite of what it was. It hurt like a b and my muscle is still all sore!
I plan to knock a few things off the nursery to-do list while my hubs is in his "conscious fathering" class this morning. What's the word on monitors? I was leaning towards a video monitor, he wasn't 100% sure that it was more practical. Has anybody looked into monitors at all yet?
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@anandam: I don't track anything except I only drink one caffeinated drink a day at most. I don't really worry about what I eat - I just eat what my body feels like it wants. I don't go crazy and overeat but I do have sweets and some junk food. But I also eats tons of fruit. I guess I figure this is the one time in life I can eat knowing I'm supposed to gain some weight. Bad pregnant lady!
I also think our bodies are designed to do what they need to do during pregnancy. I didn't eat a ton last time and still gained 40 pounds. I'm on track to gain that much now. Maybe that's just my norm.
I also think genetics plays a big part in the size of your baby. DS was over 10 pounds and I didn't have GD. But DH was 10 pounds at birth so that's where it came from.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@gingerblonde: we have a Motorola video monitor that we loved. We also bought it with two monitors from the beginning - kept one in our room and one in the nursery.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@gingerblonde: we got one of those angel care movement monitors and it was pretty much a waste. Never used the movement portion. Once we got ds into his room we got a foscam - so much cheaper than a video monitor and we could watch him on our phones or the laptop. Would definitely recommend.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mamasig: eek i hope thats not true about babies because i was over 9 lbs and my husband was over 10! (although his mom did have GD and we were BOTH 2+ weeks late). really really hoping for a lovely 8 lb child haha. I wonder if genetics also plays a big role in how you gain during pregnancy? My mom found my baby book a few months ago and we were looking through it and she was around my size (maybe a little bigger) when she got pregnant with me and she gained only 17 lbs. My grandma was also overweight when she got pregnant with my dad and gained only 10 lbs. I'm on track for somewhere in that range so I wonder if it is genetic? Or maybe just if your'e overweight when you get pregnant you tend to not really gain much at all. (I'm up 3 lbs at 28+6, but I lost first and have gained 6 lbs in the last 6 weeks so I'm thinking I may gain another 10 or so in the next 2-ish months).
@gingerblonde: I registered for this monitor: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-SEW-3037W-Wireless-Monitor-Infrared/dp/B00A4K8FX0/ref=br_it_dp_o_nS_nC?ie=UTF8&colid=35407PGPX3620&coliid=I3DDHMC377739P I did a bunch of research and that one just seemed the best to me. I was tempted by the ones you can view with your iPhone, but i heard those can be a little flukey and don't always stay connected as well as those with a dedicated monitor. Also we don't go out a lot so I didn't think it was a feature i'd really NEED so much as it was just cool.

@whodat: @Mae: @skipra: Thanks. It helps to hear that you're all being conscious but not perfectly strict.
@Mamasig: Also helps to hear you are 5'2 and on track to gain 40lbs without getting in trouble over it. Are you planning a repeat cesarean? I think I remember that. I was almost 9lbs myself, not sure about DH. My mom has a totally different body from me though so not sure how much that means. I'm shaped more like women on my Dad's side and don't know anything about their births. Trying to just trust my body! It's worked well for me so far and it's definitely sustaining this sweet child! That's most important.
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@anandam: yes - a repeat c section. When the doctor took DS out she said I made the right choice. There was no way he would have fit through the birth canal. I could try a vbac with this one, but I'm thinking he will be big too. My c section recovery was not bad at all. I'm more scared of the thought of a bad tear if I try to have him vaginally. That freaks me out more. Honestly, when I was pregnant with DS I just knew he was big even before the ultrasounds. I am short and not really wide. But you just never know. My aunt on my dad's side had a 10 pound baby vaginally.
persimmon / 1281 posts
Had the appointment with the new doctor my sister recommended and he is a Godsend! DH and I felt totally at ease with him, he listened to my concerns and from what he expressed he would only do a C Section if absolutely necessary. He stays with you while you labor and has stayed as long as 18 hours with one of his patients. He explained everything he was doing and what should be happening with my body now. Honestly I forgot there was a full waiting room because he did not rush us at all!
The ultra sound showed that baby G has turned and his (big) head is weighing on my pelvis and that's why I'm having such pain! I got one week off work to rest my sore bones and gradually build up an exercise routine. Swimming, prenatal yoga or 15-20 minutes a day of walking should help.
To top it all off, while we were paying the receptionist he told her not to charge us for this visit. Free consultation and ultrasound! US$100 saved! Win! Oh baby G is overweight -966g when the upper range limit at this time is 950 and he is measuring at 30wks! That is so weird because I've only gained 1lb since the last visit a month ago.

@whodat: AMEN! Super-tired of being asked. And when I tell them that it's not until May, their eyes bug out.
@cookie_dough I am also trying desperately to resist the snacking. So hard! Ever since the holidays, I can't stop.
We chose our doula last week. She's super-cool and highly recommended in the area. So that's one less thing to think about. But now we have to look for a pediatrician and childcare.
My in-laws are planning a shower for me in March, my friends are planning one for April, and they're planning one for me at work (don't know when). This kiddo's going to be spoiled, that's for sure!
On the physical front, she is all up in my ribs now. I know it's going to get worse because she's only going to get bigger. Ah, well, breathing without pain is overrated, right?
My next appointment is this coming Thursday on the 20th. I have to take the glucose test after all (I thought I had escaped it, because I'm already 28 weeks), so not excited about that, especially considering that I eat way too much sugar on a regular basis. But on the plus side, I get to see her again so they can make sure she's growing alright because of the single umbilical artery.
persimmon / 1281 posts
@gingerblonde: I forgot to add.. I was concerned about my weight gain too a couple weeks ago and my doctor made it clear that as long as baby is healthy he is happy. So like the other ladies said, don't be too hard on yourself. Also about the leg cramps! I've had three wake me up. On my goodness they are bad! Now DH knows if he wakes up to me screaming just grab my calves and rub! I've heard drinking water before bed could help but that would also send me to the bathroom so nope. I guess when all else fails I'll resort to exercise.

@anandam: @Mamasig: My husband was over 10 lbs and his mom (who is like 5'1" or 5'2" and TINY) had him vaginally! I don't know the details (which is for the best I think? haha) but I did ask when I found out how big he was if he was a c-section and she was like NOPE. hah
@Glitter: yea for a big healthy baby!! and also so glad you got your OB situation figured out! He sounds fabulous Especially getting you a week off-- I bet you'll feel so much better after a week of really being able to focus on healing yourself.
As for me and baby this weekend… I know the grass is always greener but I'm a little jealous of you ladies with babies up in your ribs! Mine has been there a few times and it does make it harder to breath but that hasn't bothered me terribly. Mine for the last week or so seems insistent on laying low low low down on my bladder. I feel like, constant pressure on my bladder. It is not awesome. I'm starting to get super excited about the prospect of not being pregnant anymore in 3 mo or less haha.
Lastly, we had such a fun productive weekend for getting nursery stuff done! My parents were in town and we got my craigslisted dresser and changing table painted aqua, and our pretty crystal chandelier hung. Love love love! Before/afters attached!

@Mae: wow those look great!! Awesome transformations. Love the colours and the cute chandelier tooooo!
