@Mamasig: your last two sentences have me tearing up. Love it. I will definitely keep those in mind. @cookie_dough: that sounds a lot like my son. I'll start the bath change soon.

I do have a card of an LC that a friend used, so if the class and book end up a bust I can hopefully get it sorted out. Our hospital is very bf-friendly so I think they send nurses/LCs to help while you're in the hospital too. I'm sort of worried the class will be a waste anyway since it will be about breastfeesing singles and I'm most worried about the twin aspects! I really want to be able to tandem BF so I'm hoping we can figure out how to get them both going at once!

@twodoghouse: good luck with your test today! How do you feel? Did u have to fast?
My brother and SIL have twin boys and it was interesting to watch her tandem feed. She's a real trooper!
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Glitter: Only one hour left now! I did have to fast but I'm feeling ok, luckily. I'll be ready to eat when this is done though!

@Beebug: I've had 2 knee surgeries and found when it was feeling sore that propping it up on a stool or even another chair really helped. Definitely more than changing my chair. Good luck, I hope it turns out to be nothing major!
@twodoghouse: I hope you are feeling ok with the 3-hour test! I failed the 1-hour test last time and passed the 3-hour with flying colors. Like my results after 1 hour were lower than what they needed to be after 3. I think the fasting makes a huge difference. I know they say it shouldn't, but how could it not?
@sungirl: DS can be a total mama's boy sometimes. Luckily he llllooooves Daddy too so when he gets home from work it's mostly about him. But like if he falls down or gets cranky only I can get him to calm down. DH does bath time solo about 50% of the time now and will start doing bedtime too. I'm kind of nervous because I SAH and it's great just the two of us. What am I going to do with a toddler and newborn all day?!?
@Mae: Glad you found the CPR class useful. I didn't take any breastfeeding classes or read any books and we're still here breastfeeding over 17 months later (seriously, when is he going to give it up?). The nurses at the hospital were on top of getting it established. I was very thankful for that. We had some issues with him latching at night so we saw a LC at my midwife/OB's office and she also had some good tips. Plus hospitals often have support groups that a lot of people find useful.
So I found out yesterday that I passed the 1-hour glucose test. Hooray! I had such a hard time even taking it after the nasty woman at the lab refused to do it the first time and this time the girl had a hard time drawing blood. She was digging around in my arm with the needle and I almost passed out. So happy I don't have to do the 3 hour test this time after that experience.

Passed my GD test. I am super excited. All my midwives and OB's assumed that I had it last time and it went undiagnosed. (LO was 9lbs and born at 36wks 5days. This baby is measuring big too, so my midwife said she was "shocked" that I came back on the low side of normal.
@twodoghouse: A breastfeeding class is always beneficial! However, if you want some outside support or someone to lean on, a very good friend of mine tandem nursed her twins and is a breast feeding counselor for Breastfeeding USA. She's always willing to help out a twin mama, and I'm sure she would be open to me giving you her email address She actually took some videos of positioning and stuff at one point for another mama.

@Mae: I think it went alright, but I won't know the results until Friday! I felt ok afterward - just totally thirsty and hungry. Hopefully that's normal.
@junebugmama: Yay for passing your GD test! I would love to get in touch with your friend about breastfeeding twins. Would you mind posting her info on my wall? Thanks!

@twodoghouse: gahh so annoying when places don't tell you right away lol. I'm glad my practice does bc i'm way too impatient for this waiting around BS

I took the GD test yesterday... but unfortunately, my practice seems to believe that "no news is good news" and won't be calling me with results - unless, that is, I don't pass and have to take the 3 hour. I'm a nervous nellie and will be jumping at the phone for the foreseeable future.
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: ugh, lame. Did they tell you how long it usually takes to come back? Like, if you don't here in 48 hrs you're good?
@Beebug: awwww so cute!

@Mae: I really want to do an infant/child cpr class! DH teaches regular/adult one at his school, but infant/child one would be really good and good for me to get more comfortable with heaven forbid.
@sungirl: DD favourites us whatever way the wind blows. Somedays wants nothing to do with DH and is a total cling to me, other days she is his shadow and wants zip to do with me! She is now also learning she doesn't like me very much when she gets in trouble!
Any other 2+ Mom's finding discipline/consistency difficult if they are in daycare too? DD climbs on our couch now on her own and used to sit down on it and sit nicely, now she runs all over it. Given I Have seen other kids do this at daycare she must be doing it there, I won't even get into the safety part, but how can I ever win this if she is getting away with it at daycare? I don't want to mention it to daycare, I have a few issues with them, try to focus on that my DD loves going there and we will be done there come June!
@twodoghouse: Hope results are good on Friday and there are no GD worries for you! lol on the heatwave! I took a pic of the front of our place today to show how high the snow was/is before it gets rained away through the week!! We were 6 degrees here today, above zero for the first time in so long!
@Glitter: Tandem feeding would be "cool" to see (things only a new/young Mom would say?)
Chiming in on the bf'ing thing, I feel like anything I read about bf'ing before baby went out the window and wasn't really helpful. It was the nurses at the hosp who really helped and I was lucky it did feel really natural to me. I think I have written this before how super frustrating it was that every shift change a new nurse = new "right" way to bf, it was hard and frustrating at the time, I just wanted to master one thing, one hold, one way, but it turns out all of those different ways to get latch or hold baby they all taught me were really helpful when I was home with DD without their help trying to troubleshoot and get the most for DD and get comfortable for me.
@skipra: Chair stuff is back related......knee stuff is another issue! I'm a mess, haha! I use my heater under my desk as a leg rest for my knee! When I had my first knee scope done, elevation was so much more comfortable!
@junebugmama: Wow on size of LO at 36w!!! I had a 9 pounder at 41w, lol...different story Yay on passing!
@gingerblonde: Hopefully no news is good news, if I ever worry about anything and don't hear, I usually end up calling, pleading ignorance about not knowing and then they verify (usually!) everything is okay!!
pomegranate / 3565 posts
@junebugmama: I sometimes wonder if I had GD undiagnosed. DS was about that size at a 37 week ultrasound. But I passed the test. I hope I do this time too. I don't have my test for another two weeks.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@gingerblonde: That is annoying. The midwife told me that the test wouldn't take long so if I didn't hear anything after a day I could call them but it probably meant everything was fine. @Beebug: You look great and your DD is so adorable!

I can't believe it but baby boy has started the last week in his "twenties". Wow, 29 weeks deserves a bump photo I think
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: yay bump!!!
So we had our meet and greet at the midwife practice tonight and they were so nice! So we officially switched, at 29.5 weeks pregnant haha. First prenatal appt with them next week!
nectarine / 2019 posts
@Mae: I think it's great that you made the decision to switch. With my last pregnancy I was too afraid to do so and I regret it.
@Mamasig: I am thinking I just make giant babies. Although, I am hoping no complications this time, so no induction. Then I wonder how big this baby could end up being if I go full term!! Yikes lol
papaya / 10343 posts
@junebugmama: Maybe you just cook babies faster than average 9 lbs isn't SO big for a full term baby, maybe your body is just 10% faster than usual haha. That is the one part that scares me a little bit about the midwife practice, they don't induce unless the baby or mom is actually in danger. Even if you're late, even if you're really really uncomfortable and just want out-- they believe body knows best unless there is some medical reason to induce. Not that I WANT to be induced because I don't… but I was 3 weeks late and I'm just really worried that this kid will never come out lol

@twodoghouse: We're planning on cloth diapering! MIL found a baker's dozen of BG 4.0 for sale that had been barely used, so that'll probably start our stash. I don't think we should need many more than that.
@beebug I have one tattoo, a white one that stretches all across the inside of my forearm. It hasn't changed, but no one can see it if I don't point it out anyway. Moles on the other hand - now I've had a few of those change! Completely normal, but I'm definitely going to mention them when I go for my yearly derm check in August.
@mae I also lie on my back for the last little bit in the morning. I'm a back sleeper naturally, so staying on my sides all night is killer!
@skipra @junebugmama Yay for passing the test!
I have a few breastfeeding books I've been meaning to read (Ina May, Womanly Art, and Breastfeeding Made Simple), plus I signed up for a class in March. My hospital also has lactation consultants on staff and my doula is a lactation specialist. So one way or another, we will get this baby eating! I dunno, I might just read one of the books and skim the others for locating things I would need to know if there were issues.
We've also signed up for an infant care/CPR class and a Hypnobabies course. I'm really excited for the Hypnobabies to begin. Oh, and we have a hospital tour/birth options session scheduled. I feel like March is just going to be one class after another!
nectarine / 2019 posts
@Mae: Don't be afraid, our bodies are meant to know when to evict or bambinos I'm a doula and I've seen woman give birth to 11lb babies with ease, but it still scares the crap out of me lol
After my induction (it was due to pre-eclampsia) I would pretty much refuse one unless one of us was really going to actually die. It was awful. I know some people have them with ease, but it was my first lesson in trusting my body and that it would know best.
nectarine / 2019 posts
@HayleyJane: If you're only going to read one, then my suggestion is to read the womanly art of breast feeding then
papaya / 10343 posts
@junebugmama: I'm trying to have faith Rationally I know I don't want to be induced. Emotionally I'm worried about getting super uncomfortable. I'm worried that I'm already starting to get uncomfortable at 29 weeks and that in another 11 (or 12, or 13) I might be so desperate to be done that not being allowed to be induced will be like my own personal hell lol. But I've had a pretty easy pregnancy thus far so I'm trying to have faith that I'll remain only mildly uncomfortable for the next few months and go into labor naturally on time (or close thereto!).
nectarine / 2019 posts
@Mae: Oy I am already uncomfortable, so I understand that fear. Hopefully we will both go (and everyone else) close to our due dates
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: Yay for switching to a midwife practice! I think I am unreasonably afraid of OB's but I almost had a nervous breakdown when I thought I couldn't use midwives for this pregnancy (due to insurance changes). I'm pretty sure mine won't induce unless absolutely necessary either. I'm a little nervous about that but honestly would prefer to wait a couple extra days at home than in the hospital hooked up to monitors.
@HayleyJane: We had just 12 BG diapers for DS and that was enough for us to wash every other day. We do use disposables at night and during the day sometimes if we are out all day or even if the diapers are in the wash. If you're flexible I think it will be plenty for you.
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: good to know about 12 diapers… that is what i registered for too. 6 bumgenius elementals (AIO) and 6 alva pockets. I figured I'd just start with a few and see what I like and then maybe get more if/when I needed it! Also-- I hope you have a good experience with your OB! Honestly I really loved my OB and I'm a little sad to say goodbye to her. I do think most of them want you to have the birth you want-- they just aren't really as educated/equipped to support non-medicated labor. But if you've already done it once then you're ahead of the game!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@Mae: Oh I don't have to see an OB this time. I just thought I did at first because of our insurance change and some bad information I received. There are two midwife groups at our hospital and luckily one of them is covered. I was ready to switch hospitals just to go to a midwife! I called one OB practice and asked about the C-section rate and was quoted something like 45%. Umm no thanks!
papaya / 10343 posts
@skipra: oh man yea, that is crazy high!! The rate at the hospital I'm delivering at is 27% over all. The midwife practice I'm going to that delivers there is 10-14%, although thy said it used to be much lower before they started accepting VBAC patients (who they said just sort of necessarily have a higher c-section rate, although they are always willing to let a woman TRY for vaginal birth if they want to and it is deemed safe).

Well, I got the call - failed the 1-hr glucose test, my levels are so elevated over the range of normal that I don't even want to say them. Guess it's off to the 3-hr test for me...

@gingerblonde: Aw, I'm sorry. You're not the only one! I did the 3 hour test yesterday. Good luck on the long test!
cherry / 184 posts
@twodoghouse: How did it go for you?? Were you exhausted and ravenous by the end? I went ahead and scheduled for 7am tomorrow so I don't stress it all weekend.
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@gingerblonde: That stinks about your test! I had to take the 3-hour test last pregnancy and although I didn't feel great, I wasn't at the point of passing out or anything. I was just so thirsty and my arms were awful from all the blood draws. I wasn't even close on the 1-hour and I remember looking online to see what percent passed the 3-hour with my 1-hour results. It was not promising but I passed the 3-hour test no problem. Hope it is the same for you. Good luck!
honeydew / 7230 posts
@gingerblonde: I wanted to get mine scheduled right away so as not to drag it out too! I was ravenous by the end, but the exhaustion hit a couple hours later. Plan on having something to eat right away once you're done! Fingers crossed for you.

@gingerblonde: aw, that sucks that you have to do the 3 hour test. I hope it goes ok for you. I took the 1 hour today but I don't have my results yet. I really wouldn't be surprised if I failed I guess I will just have to wait and see!
papaya / 10343 posts
@gingerblonde: sorry to hear I'll keep my fingers crossed for you on the 3 hr test.

Soooooo anyone remember that job I applied for back in the fall and was told I didn't get an interview? Just got an email asking me to come in next week to interview! Super freaking out because interviewing at 30 weeks? Scary! lol. And also because the idea of switching jobs right before giving birth (or right after) seems like a lot of stress… but I'm definitely going to do the interview because I think I owe it to myself to explore this and worst case scenario-- good interview practice right?
olive / 53 posts
@Mae: Congrats on the interview! Good luck!
I have totally been avoiding my gestational diabetes test. I've eaten so many sweets lately because of Valentine's Day and all the baking I've been doing. My doctor ordered it for me so I can go in at any time-I'll aim for early next week.
I'm doing my first daycare tour tomorrow. It seems so ridiculous to me as the baby is not even here yet but this place already has a waiting list until December!
honeydew / 7230 posts
@Mae: yay for your interview! Fingers crossed for you.
@Mrs Hazelnut: good luck on your GD test! I'm sure it will go fine.
We had our breastfeeding class tonight. It was mostly video with some breaks to talk things over in more depth. Mostly it was just nice to go the breastfeeding resource center and get familiar with the services they offer, etc.
papaya / 10343 posts
@Mrs Hazelnut: lol i know how you feel. I started calling around at like 8 or 9 weeks and they were telling me they had only 1 or 2 spots left at various places for post-maternity leave. I'm like… my child is ONE INCH BIG.
