@the_bees_knees: Welcome! What an age gap you'll have! Love the name. We haven't even started the nursery yet so don't feel like a slacker! We just moved in January and need to get some work done on the room and are just waiting for the contractor to actually come do it. We have NOTHING for it yet except a glider. DS is still in the crib and we don't have a dresser/changing table, curtains, paint, etc. We also need to rip out the carpet and figure out what we're replacing it with. Seven weeks is enough time, right?
@gingerblonde: You look great! Love the dress. Wish it was nice enough here to wear something like that! Glad to hear that your appointment was better. I will say that I'm super nervous about not being close to the hospital this time around. Like it's one of the biggest stressors in my life right now. Also I've heard that if you go with an OB and have a normal pregnancy and labor that you barely even see them during the labor - it's the nurses that really count.
@Beebug: Sorry you are having such a rough time Have you and DH tried having date nights or anything? Has the e-counseling been helpful at all? On a happier note, you look fantastic in your pic, as always!
@Mae: I totally have to agree that you look like you've lost weight and just grew a belly. Looking really great!
@Glitter: You look so cute! How are you feeling? Is the pain better now that you're at home? We had little cupcakes at my main shower and then regular cake at my work shower and smaller one with DH's family. Nothing was particularly fancy.
@twodoghouse: Love the room!

@cookie_dough: I missed you in my other post. I felt really dizzy and weird the other evening but I think it was maybe blood sugar because I hadn't eaten anything in several hours. After sitting down and eating I felt much better so I didn't call. I was going to call if that didn't help. I've had low blood pressure during both pregnancies and I think that might be kind of common? Not sure if they can do anything about that though?
persimmon / 1281 posts
@skipra: thanks! The pain is not better but it's definitely more manageable. Both my doc and midwife who we've been doing childbirth classes with are encouraging me to exercise for 30 minutes daily to win the battle. They say either baby wins or my pelvis does. It's painful but I'm walking slowly and hoping it gets easier in time. Also doing kegels , kegels , kegels!

Thanks everyone! I haven't called yet. I realized that I hadn't drank any water yet when I was feeling off this morning (just had a tea, but no water yet), so I drank some water and I seem to be feeling better for now. If it comes back, I will likely call. I do have an appointment on Monday, so I will definitely ask about it then, even if it doesn't happen again before then.
@twodoghouse: such a cute nursery! I’ve ended up telling way more people than anticipated what our baby name is too. Last time I didn’t tell anyone what our choices were…not sure why I’m not such a stickler this time!
@gingerblonde: to add to @Beebug’s comments about activities post-baby, I found that signing up for different activities definitely helped. I’m not big on the playgroup-type setting personally, because I’m quite shy and am not good at just approaching people and talking to them, so I found that the more structured activities worked best for me…like library time (i.e., half an hour of songs, stories, etc led by someone…not just sitting around at the library hahaha), swimming lessons, music class, etc. Because then you COULD talk to people around you if you wanted, but didn’t feel awkward if you weren’t.
@Beebug: Ugh, it just sounds like an awful awful situation to be in with your DH I’m terrible at offering advice, but I really hope that he sees what kind of stress it is causing you and agrees to do something about it. Love your bump pic though, as always!
@Glitter: you look amazing! And you always have such pretty dresses. For some reason I’m drawing a blank on dessert at my shower, but I think we did have a cake. It wasn’t a fancy decorated cake or anything though, I think my MIL had just made a bundt cake of some kind. For my sister’s shower, we are going to do red velvet cupcakes.
@Sungirl: I am with you on the blah feeling. This never-ending winter definitely hasn’t helped. DH seems annoyed too that I ask him for extra help of that I’m always tired or that I don’t feel like making anything for dinner some nights. I think he seriously just forgets that I’m pregnant! I do too sometimes hahaha. He doesn’t realize how exhausting it is. Probably because like you, I enjoyed being pregnant last time too, and this time I just find it soooo hard on my body. I don’t have any time to relax, and when I do, I feel guilty for lying there and not getting chores done. But if I don’t do them, I know that he’s not going to (I mean, he does do many things, but if I asked him to clean our baseboards or a bathroom he would probably just laugh at me)
@the_bees_knees: we are finally starting to make some progress on DD’s big girl room (we are just reusing our nursery for the new baby). It took us a long time to get started, but now the furniture is built, the curtains are up and a few of the decorations are up. Still quite a few things to do, which I’m sure I will procrastinate on for a while longer!

@Glitter: Glad things are at least manageable at the moment!
@cookie_dough: Hope the hydration does it! Also, oh husbands
Does anyone else find themselves irrationally annoyed when husbands complain? My DH is awesome, but he tends to complain a lot about every little thing when he has an ache or pain. And lately it is really hard to not stare daggers about it lol. Like he got his TDAP shot last week and his arm hurt for like 3 days. And he mentioned it like 6 times/day. And I'm finally like OMG I know! I had it too! Plus about a zillion other shots/blood draws. Plus ya know, growing and carrying your child and my pelvis currently trying to rip itself in half. Sigh. lol. The first time I snapped at him he was like "okay so you being pregnant means I'm never allowed to not feel good?" and realistically-- he's right. But I feel like he complains when his discomfort is at a 2. Whereas if I did that I'd do nothing BUT complain so out of solidarity he should wait until he's at like a 7 to complain like I do
Also re: water--- I cannot drink enough lately. I feel like I do nothing but guzzle water and I still feel dehydrated.

@skipra: I couldn't tell you the last time we had a date night. Hockey season is done now, but Sept-Feb he had hockey 5x a week, on top of both working ft out of the house and DD, it just never happens. Even pre-DD, we never did it enough, we need to. I love the e-counselling. Just to bounce thoughts off of someone else, and to have something to read, take away, and think about before responding!
@cookie_dough: lol you are totally right on the playgroup type settings, I like a smaller group, or something more activity based! Did you ever do any early years programs with #1? I love early years stuff around here.
@Mae: I don't drink enough, and definitely always feel desperately thirsty. I woke up a few times last night absolutely frantic for water.
DH and I had ok night, didn't really talk about important things, but made a good dinner and just hung out. I have a roast in the crockpot now, so mmmm roast beef dins on a weeknight, what a treat. I slept really poorly last night and am so congested today, argh.
I think I am getting an iphone ladies!! I am so excited! I have always had a work phone, and had it while off on my first mat leave, but my work is phasing corporate phones out (because they give us blackberries and no one wants them, lol) so this mat leave I had the option of taking my bb, or getting my own, so I am getting an iphone! It's the 4s, so not the newest model, but compared to the bb I have, huge improvement! When I get back to work, and am using my phone for work I can expense those costs but still have my own phone, which is what most without a bb now do, and it works.

@Beebug: We did one of the early years programs, infant massage when DD was really young. I did go to their playgroups a few times, but only when I had another mom friend coming with me because I was too chicken to go on my own! Glad to hear that you had a better night with DH!
@Mae: My DH doesn't complain too much about aches and pains, but when he's sick, he's a giant baby. And i'm bracing myself now...because I'm officially sick (I'm thinking thats' why I've felt so off the last few days...I was coming down with a bad cold). He's definitly going to catch it...ugh. I really really hope DD doesn't catch it, although I'm sure she will. So much for me bragging about our awesome immune systems

PS. around this time with #1. I had to take my rings off for remainder of pregnancy.
Today my rings are falling off my finger they are so loose.
I am thinking it's a temperature thing? March now, vs August when I was 32w last time, much less swollen time of year now?
kiwi / 619 posts
@Beebug: me toooo!!! I 'm so excited that my rings are still on. I had to take them off so early last time. By the way, going back to a convo we had a few weeks ago about taxes...I've been told that I'm not allowed to have more taken off my paycheques while i'm on mat leave!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Not sure if it's because I work for the Federal Government or what, but I'm so disappointed

@cookie_dough: Really?! Boo. That is a bummer!! I need to get mine (TD1 form) submitted again soon, I have two more regular pays here between now and mat leave, eeep!
apricot / 309 posts
@Beebug: Me too! I took them off around 26 weeks last time and I also remember at this time last pregnancy 31 weeks I couldn't wear any shoes but flip flops or really open sandals but it was end of June/ early July.
papaya / 10343 posts
@junebugmama: aw you look so cute!
Re: rings-- mine are really loose today too. I was wondering if the lack of swelling was due to time of year/super cold winter and spring? Whatever man… I'll take it. I'm so grateful my rings and shoes still fit.
honeydew / 7230 posts
@junebugmama: you look great!
My rings are still fitting too. My feet are swelling like crazy now, but luckily my hands have been ok!
nectarine / 2019 posts
@Beebug: I was able to wear my rings the whole time during my last pregnancy too even with pre-e swelling. This time they are falling off though

I was so behind on this thread! I've just caught up but I think it would take me forever to respond to everyone
Things are going well on my end. Most people still think it is a boy, as do I, cannot wait to find out for sure! When I ask R she always says it's a boy but I am not sure if I can believe a 21 month old (as of tomorrow-yikes!) lol. This babe has his/her bum on my right side, I think, and it causes me to be lopsided which I find humorous. I also find it so cool when he/she stretches and I feel movement at my left hipbone and under my right chesticle. Ignore childish wording please. Anyone else wanting to eat junk all the time?! Please tell me I am not alone. I have been eating apples to compensate but alas I just want to eat all the junk- cookies, cake, brownies, candy, chips. I have a problem. DH and my bff who will be there for the birth think it would be awesome to have the babe on 5/4. Apparently that is May the Fourth Be With You day. DH is a huge Star Wars fan so it would be quite fitting.
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: Yes, our geeky friends are very amused by our 5/4 due date. Also, YES to crap. The first 20 weeks of my pregnancy I couldn't be bothered by sweets. Now I want ALL OF THE SUGAR. Like seriously I wake up thinking about cheesecake and hot fudge sundaes. It's ridiculous.
pear / 1586 posts
@Mae: Haha thank goodness it is not just me! I am hopeless to resist. I try to tell myself to only eat things I would feed to R but when she is doing independent play/in bed that goes out the window.
ETA- I love your name choice! So very pretty.
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: Thank you And ummm just finished eating some chocolate covered pretzels. lol.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@junebugmama: Loveeee the side by side pic!! I think that is awesome to compare, and you look fab.....both times!!!
@cheesetomywhine: Happy 21m to your R! DD was 17m yesterday, eeeep!
I think I did the opposite of some of you ladies in the sweet department, I did a lot of crap eating earlier on. This week dinner's have been pathetic, we have been cooking great meals, but I think DD has eaten more than me. I get full so fast, and knowing that trying to really watch what I eat to make sure I fill up on good stuff. Don't get me wrong, I won't ever say no to a sweets binge if the craving comes, but I feel like I am never hungry these days?
So I had my meeting with HR yesterday re: mat leave.....slight curveball!! Instead of being done in 6w or so on May 1st, I am going to be done in 3w (April 11th last day)....THREE!!!! I guess my office should be forcing me to take more vacation days, even though I never have time to.....my plan was to mat leave May to May, tack on the insane amount of vacay days I have (56, lol) on the other end (I won't mention I will accrue 21/22 days while I am off too, lol) but I guess since some of the 56 days I accrued in 2012 and 2013 when off with DD on mat leave I can't carry them over for that long so they need me to use them on the front end just to clear some out. It makes sense, and is a great problem to have, but is still really crazy. I have a lot to do in 3w here!

@Beebug: @Mae: @twodoghouse: Thanks ya'll
@Beebug: too much time off, doesn't seem like that big of a problem. How awesome

@Beebug: omg so amazing! So you will be off April 11, 2014-August 2015?!?! <green with jealousy> lol

So I spent the last two mornings 10 am - noon at the doctor's office. A nurse came out the first day after I had waited 2 hours and suggested we all reschedule because the doctor was doing an emergency c-section. Then yesterday I went back and spent another morning waiting, only to have the doctor come in, feel my belly and say "feels like legs!," do the heartbeat, and remark to the nurse that "She has big babies" when the nurse was surprised how large I was measuring. Done in 5 minutes. Ugh.
I know how busy my Dr. is but sometimes I'm a little bit annoyed with waiting 4+ hours, skipping 2 mornings at work, and the appointment itself is super quick and pointless.
In the meantime, I've made my very first baby purchase! I got my kids semi-matching outfits to take a photo in, maybe the day we come home from the hospital.
papaya / 10343 posts
@whodat: omg that is SUPER annoying! At both offices I have gone to the doc/midwife has "on call days" where they are at the hospital and they don't take appointments on those days at all. I don't think I've ever waited more than 20 min past appointment time to see one of them. Adorable outfits though!!
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@junebugmama: @Mae: I know....definitely not a problem (never said it was) just a curveball in going off in half the time I was expecting, lots to do at work in the interim! I feel almost guilty it will be that much time, but know I will only get to do this part of life for a limited time, and working for many, many more years to come.
nectarine / 2019 posts
@Beebug: oh don't feel guilty. It's so exciting!
@whodat: super cute!
Has anyone purchased their coming home outfits (sorry if I missed the convo if it already happened. I tried to catch up and fell asleep lol)
pea / 7 posts
@junebugamama I've been looking for a coming home outfit but I haven't found anything yet:( I'm kind of picky about what I like for little boys so I'm sure that has a lot to with it.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
@junebugmama: I am going to bring a few options to the hosp.....being we are team green and all (note the we...not *I*, lol) and mentioned to DH him going out to buy an outfit after baby is born for "it" to go home in!!
papaya / 10343 posts
@junebugmama: I'm not too big on the going home outfit. We're planning to take a few cute things we already have in her closet and see what fits.
pear / 1586 posts
@junebugmama: my mums friend is crocheting a sweater and booties for him/her. I will buy a dress and cute boy outfit but haven't looked yet.
@Beebug: awesome!
@whodat: that wait is terrible! Yikes!
pomegranate / 3350 posts
@junebugmama: Wow you look great! I'm also a lot bigger this time. Have to take some bump photos. I'm so bad about it! No going home outfit yet - still looking for one. What size are you guys bringing? We brought NB for DS because we knew he was going to be small but not sure if we should bring a NB and 0-3 option just in case?
@whodat: That is so annoying! Our office doesn't schedule appointments for the midwives if they are on call so luckily the only time I ever had to wait was for my first appointment. I had to wait all the time at my previous midwife's office and it was so frustrating. At least you know that if you need the OB for delivery it will take priority over appointments?
@Beebug: That is so exciting! Maybe you'll have time to finish up your projects with the extra 3 weeks?
@cheesetomywhine: OMG I have been addicted to sweets this entire pregnancy! I'm a serious chocaholic. This past week though my stomach seems to fill up faster and I get a weird form of heartburn I guess so (luckily?) I can't have as much now.
pear / 1586 posts
@skipra: I lack the filling up gene I think. Sigh. I'm also bigger and carrying lower.
apricot / 365 posts
@skipra: Yeah, I keep telling myself I endure these wait times because I know that whenever I go into labor she will be at my side at the hospital. She was very good about hanging out with me last time instead of just swooping in at the last minute.
apricot / 309 posts
@junebugmama: you look great!
@Beebug: I am soo jealous of your time off.
I'm hoping to use the same coming home outfit DS used. Just have to find it!

@Beebug: I can't even imagine that much time off! That's awesome!
No going home outfit here either.. no outfit at all yet lol. G still has no clothes except some knitted booties our neighbour made and gave us. As long as he stays inside until the shower I anticipate he'll have some cute stuff to wear.

Deleted for privacy-- i posted a link to a gold thread I didn't think about being gold!
pear / 1586 posts
@Mae: Oh no! I'm not gold but I will send her positive thoughts and hope that the doctor's can stop the contractions. Thank you for sharing.
papaya / 10343 posts
@cheesetomywhine: oh crap, I did not think about/realize it was gold. Should prob delete!
nectarine / 2019 posts
@skipra: I've been so bad this time about taking bump pics. Last time every week without fail, this time I've probably taken 6 or 7. I have a couple of things that I really like. I tend to make big babies (Jax was 9lbs and born at 36wk and 5d) so I figured I should pack both, just in case. Jax wore a 3M outfit home, so I'm assuming as long as I make it to 37wks or greater I will assume that's the actual size.
@Beebug: I really love that you know for some reason. haha
I found an outfit at babies r us on clearance for $1.50. I feel sort of guilty not spending as much as I did on Jax, but it's really cute, so I will probably go with it.
