@charmed: Monthly is a good idea! We could start at the end of this month. That seems much more doable for me!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@mfa_lady: it took us awhile to get pregnant, so this is possibly the only pregnancy for me. But I've already thought about how I want to keep things kind of simple in terms of documenting things b/c then I don't want to feel the pressure to do it all with a second pregnancy. Crazy, I know.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@mfa_lady: DH is sort of obsessed too lol he said he could tell this week. I'm in the mood to buy maternity leggings. I just don't even know where to begin buying maternity clothes. I'm tall so buying everyday pants is already a hassle, let alone maternity pants.
@charmed: I'm glad it's not just me! I don't mind my hair growing out but it's annoying for my bangs. They grow out pretty fast naturally so it's completely worthless now.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@mfa_lady: @charmed: @Happygal: I did monthly last time, starting around 9 weeks, I think. It was soo much more manageable for me. Until later in my pregnancy when I had a giant belly I always thought it was awkward figuring out where to put my hands. If I were doing it again, I would hold a little sign with the weeks or something just to give my hands somewhere to go. And to you guys and @namaste: I'm telling you: embrace the maternity pants! It will be the best thing ever on those really bloated days!
apricot / 316 posts
@mfa_lady: I'm definitely starting to show if I don't suck my stomach in, but I had a little belly even before getting pregnant and now it's too late to get rid of it. It's making me so self conscious especially because my husband's cousin's wife is also pregnant and she had a flat belly and she still runs so I'm pretty sure I will look bigger than her in all family gatherings even though we're practically the same due date.
I'm planning to wear leggings and dresses before succumbing to maternity pants hehe
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Happygal: Also, just realized I never answered you--yes, I totally pump the hand/wrist weights all around. Think Billy Blanks but while walking in public. Okay, it's not THAT bad, but it's hilarious. If I lived somewhere that I could run into a coworker or an acquaintance, I would NOT be doing this. Ha! But it's actually a great workout, so I'm glad to live in my little neighborhood where I feel safe punching it out while walking.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@mfa_lady: the thought of you walking around the neighborhood punching the air is kinda making my day. That will look so cool once your 8m pregnant.
I second @Mrs. Blue: maternity cloths are not the enemy
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Pumuckl: Now you guys have me cracking up thinking about MYSELF. And such a good point about when I'm super pregnant...I bet people will be hiding behind their curtains to get a peek at "that walking lady" as I pass by. Hahahahaha!
As for the maternity clothes, I totally get it....I'm mostly just cheap and want to work with what I've got for as long as I can. For example, I'm wearing a loose-ish shift dress today...and I'm more comfortable than I've been in days! Woo hoo!

@radish @charmed: thank you for the welcome!
@happygal: thanks! i think he was only a couple days old in that picture.

@mfa_lady: i'm with you on the bloatedness. i actually busted out the bella band this week because it was so painful to try to zip and button my jeans.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@jojepie: Last week, I put on a favorite pair of jeans early in the morning (the only way I've been able to button them) and got all excited because I could button and zip them. Then, I sat down to eat breakfast...and let me just say....the muffin top/lack of circulation that ensued was not pretty. I hear you!!
pear / 1846 posts
@mfa_lady: My DH has put his hand on my belly a few times, I let him but in my head I think 'the baby is still in my pelvic cavity, that s just fat and bloat' I leave him to it though, think it helps him connect.
@namaste: I'm tall too! I'm thinking maternity tops will be ok because they look really long anyway but I am worried about finding sleeves and legs that are long enough. I do wear skinny jeans ankle length anyway though.
blogger / kiwi / 588 posts
thanks @snowdrop!
@mfa_lady: i can't even button them in the morning anymore! it's either the bella band, a dress or some elastic waistband skirt/pants.

I just rediscovered this website. It was my favorite "pregnancy countdown" last time. I thought I'd share if anyone needs a lighter, slightly sarcastic, but still informative week-by-week rundown of what's going on with the lil' tykes and our bodies.

@Mrs. Blue: LOL. I just looked at week 8
You:
Are possibly a walking ball of first-trimester misery, if I may project myself on you for a bit.
*BARF*
OMG I HAVE TO PEE I JUST PEED OMG I HAVE TO PEE AGAIN
May be having trouble sleeping at night, despite being exhausted.

Totally me.
Thanks for sharing!

@mfa_lady: In my opinion, the earlier you buy them the more use you get out of them so the farther your money goes.
pear / 1846 posts
@Radish: my thinking too, I'll be buying them as soon as normal clothes start to look bad/feel bad. As long as I don't buy anything to fashionable it'll do for thevnext time anyway
persimmon / 1313 posts
@Mrs. Blue: haha I'm not adverse to the maternity pants. I'm just worried about shopping alone. I briefly browsed in Target and got overwhelmed and bought another maxi dress instead.
I am LOVING that Alpha Mom site. Hilarious!
@Snowdrop: I'm looking forward to long flowy tops! Ugh, I didn't even think about sleeves. D: I usually roll up the sleeves on my button downs or wear a blazer over them. Tall girl problems!
@Radish: This is a motivator! I'll put on my big girl pants and buy my new big girl pants next week before my trip.
Ladies, where was it easiest to shop for your maternity must-haves? I've seen a lot of Target/Old Navy recommends on the boards and on the blog but every time I try my local stores, I don't see any basics.

@mfa_lady: I did bump photos from 5 weeks with my first. haven't done one yet with my second, and I'm 9 weeks saturday..oops. poor second child. LOL.
@pmrlady: she could totally balloon toward the end! you never know

I'm so behind on this thread.
@Raindrop: We're totally team green, but I'm already getting a "girl" vibe. So strange, because I did not have any thoughts on gender one way or another with E.
@sorrycharlie: I hope you live close to the hospital! Did you have any prodromal labor or any signs that maybe you were progressing before things were like double down?
@jojepie: Bella bands....SO key! I lived in those things the first time around.
@Happygal: Dude. I'm going to do it. 300 squats. I bet I could do it. (I was up to 240 a day in January. Spaced out, of course.) I'm already going to have a c-section (repeat), but I don't go to the gym or walk outside regularly. Maybe this would make me feel like I'm actually working out regularly every day.
As far as documenting pregnancy, I took random selfie photos and never had maternity photos done. Maybe this time around it would be fun to have some pictures done with E.
Appointment is tomorrow. Tomorrow, hopefully I will finally throw away the positive pee-stick that I keep next to my toilet to remind me that this is really real. (Please tell me I'm not the only one who still has this.)

@Mrs. Blue: this is hilarious! i need the humor right now. thanks!

@Espion: I had my mucus plug the night before, bloody show that morning. but no real cramping! I was actually at my OB at 3 pm, LOL. she was like, "I'll have a nurse call tomorrow morning to schedule an induction for Monday. I think you'll have her this weekend on your own, though!" ... two hours later my water broke randomly, I thought I peed my pants, lol.
I live about 15 minutes with no traffic. but with traffic it can be over 30 minutes. Providence is horrific..always construction and delays.

@sorrycharlie: Ooooo, RI to outsiders is like labyrinth. I clearly remember seeing the building I wanted to get to, and circling it for a half hour trying to get there!
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@Espion: lol!! were you on vaca? or from around here? it's not as bad as Boston's one ways, but it's ridiculously confusing.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@sorrycharlie: I was trying to get to an interview yeeeears ago. So add the stress of making an interview on time, and I was crispy with anxiety!
(Although, that does not compare with trying to get directions in Worcester, MA. "You go up a hill. Then you get to a tree. Now, not the first tree, but the second tree, you'll go east." AUGGH!)
apricot / 495 posts
@Espion: I've got my pee stick! Right in the bathroom drawer next to my tweezers. I kind of got sick of it being on the counter, but I couldn't possibly toss it! ETA 300 squats!? I was 4 cm dilated for a week before I went into labor. I think if I did that many, baby cakes would slip right out! Maybe I should start now!
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@Espion: I have many pee sticks hanging out next to my sink. Not sure when I will get rid of them.

Hey guys. Sorry I have been MIA a bit. Road trip to Cleveland today, and in 6 hours, Colin slept zero minutes. Ugh.
Last time around, I did twice weekly prenatal Pilates and nothing else. It was great and I felt really prepared for labor/delivery. There was a lot of squatting involved (though no where near 300). I was induced cuz I never went into labor, but once things really kicked in and I started having painful contractions, it was about 4 hours start to finish, all natural (minus the pitocin to get things going).
This time around, my teacher/class is gone - she got a new job - and while I know I want to do something similar, I am having trouble finding an alternative that fits my schedule...well, my toddler's schedule.
I took a ton of bump pictures last time. Haven't done a single one yet. I feel like I will start after the NT scan when I really feel secure in this pregnancy. Crazy, I know. I am almost 9 weeks and sitting at my parents, I looked at a pic from my pregnancy with C and I am nearly as big now as I was at TWENTY TWO weeks. Both of my parents suggested a hidden twin in there. Yeah. Gonna be a long 7 more months.
Oh, and ditto Blue re: amalah's countdown on alphamom. It is my fave ever.

Hi everyone - I've disappeared for a few weeks. Turns out I got myself pretty anxious in the earlier weeks and nervous about symptoms, etc. and I just needed to step away from the boards and chill out.
I have caught up on this thread over the last few days and it's great to see it is so active and has such a great group of mamas-to-be! Looking forward to getting to know you all better!
We had a u/s at 8 weeks and it was great to see a little lima bean in there. I'm 10 weeks on Friday and my next appt. is 7/3 for the NT scan. I'm excited and nervous and happy. My symptoms are pretty mild right now but they come back every once in a while which I"m glad for.
I love the alphamom link! Just spent some time reading up and it cracked me right up. I think the sarcastic, tongue in cheek pregnancy stuff appeals to me a lot more than stuff that's more serious. It helps me loosen up. Any other rec's for that kind of stuff? I actually find I love many of the HB bloggers for the same reason, so I've been doing a little catching up there too.
Off to bed - can't believe it's 9:30 and I'm still awake - looking forward to that second tri energy I keep hearing about - hope I'm one of the lucky ones.

@Oliviapope: have you looked up pregnant chicken? Glad to hear everything's going well with your LO.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@Mrs. Blue: that AlphaMom site is hilarious!
@Espion: good luck at your appointment! And don't feel bad, I still have all my pee sticks
@Oliviapope: glad to hear your ultrasound went well, and glad to have you back! And I second the Pregnant Chicken site- she is great.
Is just about everyone but me getting an NT Scan? My office hasn't mentioned it at all, although they did talk about the Cystic Fibrosis and AFP Quad Screening blood tests.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@charmed: I was never offered one with LO1 and I never asked for it. I think my dr prefers to do one at 28 weeks instead of the NT and most insurances only cover 3 (without a possible issue).
pineapple / 12793 posts
@charmed: Our healthcare offers four different types of early screening. I opted for the NT scan and quad screening.
@Mrs. Blue: I love Amalah! BabyIke is my favorite.
@Oliviapope: Welcome back! Glad you got to see a bouncing bean!
@namaste: I do a lot of Old Navy, Gap, ASOS, Target for maternity wear. My office is really casual so it's mostly jeans and comfy tops.
@Mrs. Confetti: 6 hours in the car with no nap! That's crazy! Hopefully C has caught up on sleep by now.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@charmed: I think it depends on what your insurance covers. It would actually be nice if your office is diligent about that, but I would ask and check. (If it is something you want.)
Ladies, this insomnia is insanity. I've been up since 12:44 AM (when DH got into bed). It is 5:56 AM right now. Thank goodness I have the day off today. The appointment is at 8 AM, though. Can't wait!!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
Ack, ladies, I'm having the return of the 6 - 8 weeks symptoms over here! Either I'm coming down with something, or this baby is saying "HAHA, mama! You're not out of the first tri yet!" I'm 11+5 and can't get right this morning. I had an upset stomach when I woke up, got dizzy and saw stars during/after my shower, have hardly been able to eat anything, and keep getting lightheaded and clammy every time I move.
I'm going to try to eat some cinnamon pop tarts (weird, I know--but it's a "bland" food that I always crave when I don't feel well) and try to stick it out here at work. One good thing about this is that it makes me realize how much I actually have been feeling better the last couple weeks....funny how soon we forget!
pear / 1846 posts
@charmed: I kind of am. Its called the dating scan here but it is between 11 and 14 weeks so I am calling it the NT just to make sense. That and an anomaly scan around 20 weeks are the only thing we get offered, everything else you have to get done OOP. Can not wait to see my baby!!!
apricot / 495 posts
ATTENTION JANUARY MAMAS: I just bought a silver B-Ready at babiesrus.com for $185 shipped with tax. OMG I CAN'T contain my excitement.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@charmed: I'm not doing the NT scan. My office offers it, but doesn't really recommend it unless you have risk factors. I think our insurance would pay for it, but we've decided to skip it in hopes of getting another u/s at some point between the anatomy scan and birth. I loved my later ultrasounds because you could see so much more about the baby and what it looked like, so I'm hoping to get a later u/s with this babe, too.
