What do you guys call bonding with the baby? I am very excited about my little January baby and do imagine what it will be like when he/she arrives but even though I now feel pregnant, the idea that there is a baby inside me just seems so abstract. I'm currently snacking on raspberries and thinking 'that should be how big my baby is' but I can't actually get my head round it.
This is an improvement from when it was tiny like a poppy seed though and I had this irrational fear that something that small could get lost in my body haha (yes I have a decent grasp of biology but still).

@Snowdrop: with my daughter, I felt SO maternal. always had my hand on my belly, always had like - ok cheeseball - surges of love/affection toward this baby I didn't even know. I daydreamed about her, it seemed like I loved her more every day. hard to explain! and now I still feel that way - it's insane, the amount of love you hold for your child.
with this one, I don't have any of that..at all. I am just moving out of the struggle I had with the BFP in the first place (I didn't expect it so early and didn't really react well...) so that may be part of it. I also think that I can't imagine ever loving another baby as much as my daughter, so that is also part. I'm not sure.. but it's just like, "ok, wtf. stop with the vomiting now, k thanks!! ...I sure wish I could have a big glass of sangria. oh wait, I can't." type of crabby thoughts.

How far along? 8 weeks and 4 days
Most noticeable symptom? Insomnia!! I've never had trouble sleeping and this is wild with the early morning wakings. I've been up for the day since 12:44 AM.
Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing this critter's heartbeat this morning. In a flash I went from "please be okay, please be okay" to "holy crap, we're having a baby!!"
Weirdest moment so far? Nothing so far? I haven't told anyone other than my sister and best friend, though. I'm telling work next, and that is going to be super awkward.
Do you have a guess boy/girl? We're team green, bit because I've felt mildly crummy a couple days, I'm guessing girl. I didn't have any morning sickness with E, and none to speak of with this pregnancy, but I don't remember feeling so blaaaaah and like nothing sounds good to eat.

@mfa_lady: had that happen before, magnesium helps with cramps! And make sure you're hydrated.

@Snowdrop: I think, with LO#1, the second tri was when I started to really feel bonded. I had a bump, I began to feel kicks and movement, I could tell people I was pregnant, I wasn't worried about losing the baby, we started decorating the nursery and thinking about names, I felt better physically. It becomes a lot less abstract when all of that stuff starts to happen.
This time, I'd say I feel more love towards this baby earlier on (not as abstract, because I've experience that super powerful love when LO#1 arrived) but like @sorrycharlie: I worry about loving another baby as much as I love J, I worry about splitting my time. I'm more tired than I was the first time, and crabbier too about things I have to give up (at the end of a tantrum-y day, I REALLY want a glass of wine).
So I guess it's a mix of more affection and more annoyance, haha.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: YES. annoyance. I have been guilty of thinking, "wtf..I was thinking this would take a few months. I was expecting at least to get to have a few glasses of sangria before it's taken away again..." and boom, immediate bfp. I know I should be grateful but..hey, being real here!!

@Snowdrop: I'm too exhausted to even emotionally get attached to this baby in the slightest. I'm hoping the ultrasound next week will help a bit.
With DD it was very surreal until pretty far into the pregnancy. DH and I went on a vacation around 24 weeks and she was kicking hard and you could see it on the outside and that is when I felt the biggest bond before she was born. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to feel a lot of her movement, so those rare hard kicks I noticed were extra special.

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this board. Work has been insanely busy and I've been exhausted after work.
How far along? 8 weeks 3 days
Most noticeable symptom? Exhaustion. So tired all the time.
Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing baby's heartbeat yesterday!
Weirdest moment so far? Trying to hide my noticeable bump at work. I have been rocking the maternity pants since about 6 weeks.
Do you have a guess boy/girl? I'm guessing girl because I have been feeling a lot more nauseous than I did with my pregnancy with DS.

@sorrycharlie: LOL this happened during my first LO. It was very sudden we were pregnant. This second one took a while longer than we wanted. I think everyone women has sort of weird expectation of how long this "should" take and when it takes shorter or longer they get mixed feelings. I'm sort of lucky that I have experienced both sides. I wonder if we try for a 3 it will actually happen during our expectation instead of way before or after.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@oliviaoblivia: First, I'm so sorry you are struggling with this. I have seen a loooooot of ultrasound pictures from all my u/s last time, and I have some teeerrrrible pictures, too. I'll see if I can dig up a few tonight to give you some piece of mind that the quality of the picture and/or thinking your child legit looks like a character from a bad alien movie (in my case) really doesn't mean anything! I totally get being sad about not having a great picture to hold on to, but please don't let it freak you out about if Dino is okay!
@mfa_lady: I've had a few really painful cramps, mostly on just one side. I had quite a bit of cramping the first time, too. It never hurts to call your OB and check, but I think it's pretty normal as long as it's not constant severe pain or accompanied by bleeding.
@sorrycharlie: @Snowdrop: I think I'm the opposite on bonding this time. Last time, I really struggled to feel connected to the babies because my pregnancy was so miserable and there was so much more risk and worry involved. I wanted them to be okay and I worried about them all the time, but I didn't feel that overwhelming love and bond until delivery, which for me caused immediate & strong bonding (though I know it's not like that for everyone). This time, though, I feel so much more bonded to this baby already. I think part of it is having an easier pregnancy and being able to focus on the happy instead of the miserable, part of it is knowing that theirs a little Finn or Elliot (or a girl version of them) growing inside of me and that makes me be able to envision life with it here more than last time.
@Happygal: We think it's sweet, but if it turns out to be a boy, he may not appreciate that we called it rose anything for the first 20 weeks!
persimmon / 1096 posts
@sorrycharlie: Yeah, I was pretty into the wine during the few months we were TTC. Like, always thinking this would be my last glass! Haha.
@sorrycharlie: @Raindrop: Both times, TTC has taken us 3 months, and both times, part of my super early nausea I can attribute to nerves about this hypothetical baby becoming a reality. I think if you've tried for a long time, you might be more likely to feel 100% positive and happy about it. If it happens right away, I know I would probably be shocked and maybe even a bit upset. Or maybe everyone always has a little bit of mixed feelings? Mostly very happy but with a little side of scared or sad for the changes that are coming?

How far along? 9weeks 2days
Most noticeable symptom? sheer exhaustion and crazy diarrhea
Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing baby's heartbeat
Weirdest moment so far? Hmm, does getting bi-weekly blood draws for weirdo virus count.
Do you have a guess boy/girl? Everyday I think little bean will be something different. We'll be finding out though. Still think I'd maybe with a ratio of 70/30 would prefer a second boy but I'll love the little bean no matter what.
@keepcalmcarrie: love the new round up, good idea!
@MrsBlue: we're actually doing the NT scan because my little cousin has down's. Just want to be prepared just in case.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: glad you sometimes have mixed feelings too. Sometimes I'm like "yay, B's going to be a big brother" and other days I'm like "ohoh, I'm going to be in trouble big time really soon".
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: 3 months both times! Nice. I think 3-6 months is my ideal timing for getting pregnant. You know a few months of doing kind of whatever you want but still trying.
The fast and furious baby came pretty much when we stopped trying to prevent. I didn't even know he was in there till 10 weeks and then suddenly we had a scan and then a few weeks later the NT scan. So it was pretty real fast.
Since this one took a while I was taking pregnancy tests way too early and the our first scan at 7 weeks felt like forever and day away and still doesn't feel real. I'm happy of course but very cautious till the NT scan probably.

I've been awful about keeping up with this board between moving, work and m/s but I'll jump back in with the survey!
How far along? 10 weeks
Most noticeable symptom? Exhaustion and so weird about food. Hoping that will start improving now. On the plus side I haven't gained any weight which was NOT true the first time haha.
Best moment of pregnancy so far? Probably when we saw the hb for the first time at 6 weeks at the RE.
Weirdest moment so far? looking pregnant earlier for #2. washed my summer-ish maternity clothes today!
Do you have a guess boy/girl? I think I feel about like I did for #1 so could be another girl, but who really knows! we are hopefully finding out in a few weeks because we are doing the blood test screening on July 1
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Pumuckl: I would definitely do it if we had any risk factors, though I know anything can happen regardless. I agree that I would want as much time as possible so I could research, learn, and be as prepared as you can be.

How far along? 10 weeks
Most noticeable symptom? Now that the nausea has lessened, fatigue.
Best moment of pregnancy so far? When DH rubs my expanding belly and asks how baby #2 is today
Weirdest moment so far? When people ask when we are going to have another baby and we aren't ready to share the news yet. Awkward!
Do you have a guess boy/girl? I'm guessing girl again because I have morning sickness around the same time, acne again, similar cravings each week

Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing the little stink in 3d.
Weirdest moment so far? Not so many weird- but scariest was my blood scare this weekend.
Do you have a guess boy/girl? Not a clue. It has been 100% different from last time, ie- cravings, &morning sickness. So maybe it's a girl!

Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing baby blob at 6 weeks!

I'm loving all these updates!
And thank you all for the reassurance today. I texted my BFF who had a baby earlier this year and she said what you guys said--"Totally normal! Your uterus is stretching!" So now I'm feeling calmer.
I tried to drink a bunch more water, too, and that seems to be helping.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@mfa_lady: it definitely can be scary! i climbed over the baby gate today and had to stand still for a couple minutes. wicked sharp pain to the right of my abdomen! from what i remember with my LO, it's the round ligaments that are starting to stretch out.
pear / 1846 posts
@mfa_lady: yeah i've not had any cramps at all but have had stitch like pains on the sides and stretching is what I've put that down to.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@Espion: Yay! I'm so happy for you right now
@Snowdrop: I can totally relate! Now the baby is a size of a plum and I "feel pregnant" almost all of the time. I guess because I'm excited in my own way. I feel overwhelmed by everyone else's excitement because it seems so over the top compared to my tiny thoughts? Like after telling people, I just am over it so I didn't tell a really good fellow blogger friend just now at Starbucks. I just wanted to talk about something other than baby stuff lol. I know she'll never weigh me down with it but I didn't want her to feel like she had to ask me all of those questions I've been getting.
@mfa_lady: I'm glad you're feeling ok. I'm having cramps every so often and it's totally my uterus stretching. I can also feel my hips stretching (thanks yoga!) so when my hips are really weird, I usually have some cramps those day.
How far along? 12 weeks!
Most noticeable symptom? Nausea/vomiting. I also get fatigue at the most random times.
Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing baby's heartbeat! Seeing my best friends be so emotional/happy made me feel like it was a real thing.
Weirdest moment so far? TMI but vomiting. Food is just weird coming back up and it's making me not want to eat certain things ever again.
Do you have a guess boy/girl? I think girl but I'm not sure!

@Happygal: I'm gonna try a baked potato and see how that works. It's been better since around 4. Sigh. It's hard to tell.

Most noticeable symptom?
Fatigue! I've taken more naps in the past few weeks than I have in the last 10 years!
Best moment of pregnancy so far?
Seeing the ultrasound and hearing the heartbeat
Weirdest moment so far?
This is silly, but it's so weird going out to dinner and not ordering a cocktail/wine. I'm always like "I'll have a water and... that's it"
Do you have a guess boy/girl?
I'm leaning towards girl, but it's not a strong feeling.

@charmed: get into mocktails! A few places in town have really nice ones, and I asked the bartender to make me something at another place when nothing was listed on a the menu. A lot of them are made with juice and have been great in this hot weather.

@Espion: I had some insomnia in the first few weeks, and am worried about it coming back. I'm a light sleeper prone to insomnia streaks! Have you tried anything that helps? I"m sorry--that is an awful feeling!

@mfa_lady: glad the water helped! And that you have a level headed friend to check in with.
Oh, I've thought of awkward moments with this pregnancy! Very few people know about the fertility treatments we went through, but some have asked how things are going. I hate lying about it, but have settled with this white lie: "We're not doing fertility treatments for awhile," and quickly move on.
But the day I found out I was pregnant, my friend asked about my last medicated cycle, which was hell. I rambled on about it and I'm sure looked uncomfortable b/c of the lying. She tried to make me feel better and said, "I'm glad it didn't work out because January is the WORST month to have a baby!! It's cold, you're inside, and if you want to get out, you have to worry about the flu! No thank you!"
I gave a weak reply of, "Oh, I don't know. I always thought it would be cozy....."
Yeah, it's going to be funny to tell her I'm pregnant and due in January.

How far along? 10 weeks + 5 days
Most noticeable symptom? So tired! I've been passing out on the couch by 7:30 or 8 every night.
Best moment of pregnancy so far? Seeing the heartbeat at our dating ultrasound.
Weirdest moment so far? Trying to hide this already big bump from work for another two weeks, and them probably thinking I am just packing on the pounds!
Do you have a guess boy/girl? I feel the same as I did with DD so I am thinking another girl, but I keep calling it a "he", so who knows!
pear / 1846 posts
@Happygal: this! I feel so guilty lying to really good friends about how treatments are going, I just keep saying that they are still checking progesterone and adjusting medication but I feel very hopeful now (that way I'm not technically lying)!
apricot / 495 posts
@MrsTiger: I referred to DS as "he" from the very first ultrasound! It might be a sign

@Snowdrop: hee hee. One friend wrote an email to tell me she's pregnant and is going to start telling people soon, but she was feeling sad for me. I wrote back a congrats email and said, "Everything is good and we're feeling very positive about things."

@Happygal: I'll have to start checking menus for mocktails!
And I may have made my husband order sangria at one restaurant so I could have a sip
@Happygal: @Snowdrop: I'm a terrible liar, so I did my best to avoid my close friends until I was ready to tell them. I'm thankful most of them know now, no more secrets!
