Thanks, ladies! I have had no noticeable pain and I had been assuming my peeing more had to do with the pregnancy, so it was an unexpected phone call. Not excited about taking antibiotics because I like to be completely med free during pregnancy.
So my husband went to visit his family with LO this weekend with the intent to tell them the news. I didn't go since it is a good opportunity for me to take a break. He put LOs big sister shirt on her last night and no one said anything despite all of them interacting continuously the entire time. DH didn't say anything last night and put the shirt on her again this morning. After a while of nothing, he finally asked his brother to read the shirt. It took him 3 reads before they remotely caught on. His mom thought it was about her baby doll at first!? His parents immigrated over here 30+ years ago, but seriously? My parents got it in 10 seconds.

@Radish: Hope you're feeling better!
@Raindrop: Totally got myself one new pair of pants! I seriously tried the smallest/tightest pair I had from my 1. pregnancy on and it kept sliding off of me... Annoying. While I was at it I also got a couple of short-sleeved tops since I was pregnant two months later last time and long-sleeved worked out fine.
I just came back from my appointment and everything looks just the way it is supposed to! Yaho, at least some good news in this house!
I'll have my next appointment end of next week already for the NT scan! Looking forward to it since it's the first appointment were DH will join me.
ETA: No picture this time, she forgot to take one for me!

So I had a doctor's appointment this morning, and my OB couldn't find the heartbeat with the Doppler so I had to wait 20 minutes for an ultrasound. Most nerve-wracking 20 minutes of my life! My husband couldn't come to the appointment so I was just sitting there trying not to cry, while I could seriously hear Dopplers in the rooms next to me with other people's baby's heartbeats!. Luckily everything looked okay with the ultrasound, baby was just moving a lot and my placenta is anterior. We have our NT scan this afternoon so I am going to hopefully stop freaking out once I get to stare at it for a while!!

@MrsTiger: Ahh so sorry you had to go through that! Enjoy the afternoon babyviewing session!

@MrsTiger: oh geez. So nerve-wracking! I'm glad everything looked good on the ultrasound.

@Radish: Glad you are feeling better. What a bummer of a reveal! I'm shocked his family took that long to figure it out!
@MrsTiger: What a scare! Good thing they got you into ultrasound quickly. I can't imagine how sick you must have felt in the waiting room. Good luck at the NT later today!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@MrsTiger: I bet that was rough. I'm glad everything is looking good and hope you have a great NT scan.
@oliviaoblivia: I was thinking maybe they noticed and didn't say anything, but based on their response when he finally got them to read the shirt closely, I don't think that was the case. It was probably 6 hours total of her wearing it and them not noticing. The good news is they are happy this time, unlike last time.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Radish: I'm glad they were happy but OMG! What happened last time?!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Radish: Why were they unhappy the first time? I hope the drugs work their magic quickly for you!
@MrsTiger: I'm kind of worried this is what will happen to me at my next appt. My uterus is tilted, although it should be tilting forward my that date. My husband can't be there with me, and it will be a nail biter to have to wait solo. I can't really think of anyone I'd want to have with me past him though, so I'll just have to cross my fingers for the best!
We're telling family members this weekend. This is grandchild #1 for my MIL, who is going to flip out, and #10 (unless a sister is secretly pregnant) for my side. I have no clever ideas on how to tell. With my big family, it's best just to blurt it out b/c things easily get lost in the chaos.

@Radish: So sorry to hear about the bladder infection. No fun! At least they caught it early. We did the "Big Sister" shirt announcement on LO this weekend. My Dad didn't get it, even after my mom kept showing him and pointing out the shirt. Later he said he thought someone gave it to us at the baby shower for LO #1. Whaaat?
@MrsTiger: Yikes that is nervewracking. So happy everything is alright with your baby.

@oliviaoblivia: Last time his mom refused to speak to us for the majority of our pregnancy because she didn't agree with us having a kid at that time (we were more than financially stable and we were in our mid 20's). His dad was kind of caught it the middle and wasn't 100% on board, but I think he was a little excited. I think MILs co-workers finally talked her into being happy about it, so she came around about a month before we were due and we got a lot of random gifts from her co-workers.

@MapleMoose: Haha, I thought it was the most obvious option without having to straight up say we are expecting! I forget some people can be oblivious.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Radish: I'm so sorry. My MIL was really disinterested in my last pregnancy for a long time. She didn't acknowledge that there was a baby coming until I was 30 weeks and even then was kind of awful about things. I'm glad they are happy this time. Pregnant ladies don't need added stress. I'm sure you're a great mom and they can't ignore that!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I would much prefer the silent treatment to overbearing or negative comments at least! It put a small damper on our spirits, but mostly since she wasn't talking to us we didn't think about it too much.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I predict my MIL will be the opposite of yours. She joined on online support group "parents without grandchildren" and has been wanting grandkids for a lonnnnng time. She once saw me eat a fried egg with a runny yolk and told me that wasn't good for babies. And she didn't like it when I was running b/c she said it jiggled my lady parts. She's already worried about being left out, so if I spend more time with my family, she pouts.
It makes my skin crawl. I'm a private person, and she has a very different concept of boundaries.

@Happygal: That is so annoying. What is so hard about having a healthy amount of interest and excitement?

@Pumuckl: glad your appointment went well!
@MrsTiger: So happy everything turned out ok, but the same thing happened at my appointment this morning! The doctor tried to find the heartbeat with the Doppler for about 5 minutes and couldn't, so she did a transvaginal ultrasound instead. Luckily an ultrasound room was available so I didn't have to wait long, but it was nerve racking for sure.
Everything looked good on the ultrasound and I got to hear the heartbeat right away (dr. said she wasn't sure why it wasn't getting picked up by the doppler), Baby is measuring on track for 12 weeks and I got some new pictures too.

@charmed: Oh man I totally know how you feel! So glad it worked out for you too, and that you got new pictures.

@Happygal: oh dear lord. she would make me so uncomfortable!!
@MrsTiger: glad all is well!! little stinker baby
@Radish: that is too funny that they thought it was for a doll at first! lol.
@charmed: so glad everything's okay! the pictures are so much fun.

I haven't told my dad's side yet (grandparents, aunts) but my aunt asked my dad if I was a couple weeks ago because I skipped an event because I was sick. he said nope, allergies.
then we were at her house saturday for a family thing and she came to me with a pitcher of sangria, looked pointedly at my belly and asked if I wanted some. I made up a lame excuse about having to drive...but she's totally onto me.
I can't wait to text them tomorrow with the ultrasound picture! I feel like I've been waiting years for tomorrow. Ok, so 7 weeks is kind of like years.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Happygal: That is creepy!!
@charmed: More ultrasound pictures - hooray!!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@sorrycharlie: Yay for your ultrasound tomorrow! It does feel like years - haven't we been pregnant for an eternity at this point?
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@Radish: seriously - I think we're like, almost due. it is so weird..this pregnancy feels like it's flying so much faster than DD's did. but at the same time January feels so far away! I think it's easier for me not to wish away the days this time, because I don't want to wish away my time with DD as my only!
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@Radish: I think it's cute that your ILs are so dense. I'm glad they were happy when they figured it out though.
@MrsTiger: Wow scary not finding the heartbeat maybe since the baby was moving around a lot it was harder to find. How did your NT scan go?
blogger / pomegranate / 3491 posts
@MrsTiger: @charmed: that happened to me for my 12 week appointment with my first and I had to wait forever for the u/s and was alone and hysterical. Glad everything was ok for you both!!!!
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Raindrop: NT scan was good, but we didn't get any print out pictures because the baby was seriously doing gymnastics the whole time! Which makes sense now that my OB couldn't find the heartbeat. The US tech couldn't even do the NT measurement, but luckily when the doctor came in baby calmed down for 30 seconds and she got it. So different from LO #1 who was just completely still, with a perfect profile shot!
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@MrsTiger: Very interesting! Maybe you are just catching the baby at a very restless time. Or maybe this means you will have a very active baby/kid! Hehe. I'm glad to hear everything turned out great.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Raindrop: Haha yes, and considering LO #1 was completely still and has been a complete maniac child in terms of activity, I am a little scared at what this one will be like!

@MrsTiger: @charmed: wow that must have been stressful to not get the heartbeat right away but I'm glad everything turned out ok.
My husband actually got the sonoline b doppler from ebay, i think he accepted the fact that I'm paranoid about these things so he didn't try to fight it. But it's funny because he has asked me twice already if he can use it on me, so it seems that he's pretty eager about hearing the HB as well =)
We met up with DH's cousin yesterday and his wife who is also pregnant and due just 2 days before me. She has been getting ultrasounds every month (her OB does it in the office) and every possible test imaginable. She told us that she's getting a blood test that can check the baby's gender. DH and I didn't even know that there is a blood test that can tell you the gender but we googled it and apparently it's a new test, only has been out for a year.
So now DH is jealous that they get to find out the gender so early and is trying to figure out a way for me to find out too hehe. My OB said that my insurance won't cover the test since I already had the NT scan and the bloodwork that goes with that. So yeah...I might have to wait till my anatomy scan in August to find out.
Anyone else hear about this blood test?
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@pmrlady: I heard about the blood test. But yeah I think most insurances don't cover it. I believe you can buy a kit on the internets and send it in and they will send you a letter back with the results if you want to do it that way... I believe it's kind of pricey like a few hundred dollars.
But hey, it's only a few months differences from them finding and you finding out which isn't a long time in the grand scheme of things.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@pmrlady: yes, I've heard of it. My sister had it done along with a lot of testing. Her OB is a lot different than mine!
pineapple / 12793 posts
@pmrlady: The blood test is offered to moms over 35 for free but for those without additional risk factors its $1000. I'd rather have $1000 worth of cute baby clothes.
It's not that tough to wait 5-6 more weeks for the anatomy scan.
apricot / 316 posts
@Raindrop: @oliviaoblivia: Yea I actually have no problems waiting until my anatomy scan, it's my husband who's being impatient about it. Sometimes ignorance is bliss (ignorance of all the different tests out there)
