@Radish: Haha funny story! Very cute. Though I'm sure most of us are in the "showing" phase, but yeah I don't know if kids really notice these things... he may have just been asking everyone. Haha.
@mfa_lady: @SleepyMonkey: @Pumuckl: Good luck with your tests ladies! (totally just cut and pasted from @namaste: )

Thanks all! Test was pretty painless...I got chilled orange drink, which wasn't as horrible as I had prepared myself for it to be. Ha. I hope the results are painless, too.
Heard baby girl's heartbeat today, too, but it was super quiet. Which, of course, because I'm apparently crazy these days, really freaked me out--but my midwife assured me (duh) that it was just her position and if she was picking up a heartbeat everything is just fine.

@Radish: we try to sit in the chair in her room instead of laying down with her when she goes to sleep for the night. but when she wakes up at 4am, we just lay with her because we want to get some sleep too! Eh. I am seriously too lazy to fight it at this point. At least I am getting good sleep every other night since my husband and I alternate.
@mfa_lady: I got the same flavor...it tastes like melted popsicle but really thick. Not too bad but not pleasant either. I was supposed to call my dr to get results today but I forgot. I figure if it was really something wrong then she would call me.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@SleepyMonkey: hah, that's about the way I feel in the middle of the night. Last night she didn't leave me enough room to lay down with my belly so it forced me onto the floor. My husband did bedtime tonight and she went to sleep no problem as long as the door was open. We will see if she has a night wake up.
Nursery is officially painted over here. This weekend will be all about getting stuff in there and sorting through all DD1s old stuff.

24 weeks today! Bringing up the rear of the viability train for January.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@Radish: yay viability! and yay nursery!
@mfa_lady: I didn't think the drink was that bad either! well, first time around. my test with this pregnancy is in a couple weeks, so I'll have to update then, lol.
@SleepyMonkey: my OB does the "no news is good news" thing too. I am so nervous. I know GD isn't the end of the world, but man, I'm already picky and ..hello! holiday! haha
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
we started painting the nursery this week! and by we, I mean, I taped and then DH painted. I got a gallon of low-odor, no VOC primer/paint at lowe's for $26. can't beat that! most of the room is done and I think he's used half a can so far! grey covering up a weird peach color.
then we're going to set up the crib this weekend just to get a feel for space. trying to figure out if I need to find a new location for the bookcase that's in there, and what to do about dressers..
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Radish: hooray for viability!
@sorrycharlie: I saw your nursery pics on IG, it looks great so far.
Our nursery has walls now. The carpet has been selected and will be installed next week. Then the trim goes in. Hopefully DH can paint next weekend.
DD is in her big girl bed now so I'll move the crib in one the walls are done.
I had my GD test last Thursday and haven't heard anything. Hopefully that means I'm in the clear.
We're getting a 3D ultrasound tomorrow. I wasn't going to but then thought that #2 might be sad that we got it for #1 and not her. I feel guilty enough that 98% of her wardrobe will be hand me downs.
What's going on with everyone? I feel like I never see this thread pop up any more.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@sorrycharlie: The grey looks great. The paint thing drove me nuts for the nursery. We did A's room first and one gallon did the walls and ceiling in one coat. The nursery we did only the walls and a gallon wasn't enough as a lot of parts needed a second coat so I got a quart and really that wasn't enough but I made it work because I am not buying anymore paint (well for that room at least).
@oliviaoblivia: oo 3D ultrasound sounds fun. I'm too cheap for that stuff I've already had more regular ultrasounds with this pregnancy than I had with DD1. Also, have you made any progress on names? I have been going through a baby name book and I sometimes think of you when I come across names, haha.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Radish: no name yet. I like Carolina (pronounced the Spanish name, using Lina as a nn) he likes Caroline. I like Amelia he would only use Amelie. Ugh. Hopefully we can compromise in the next week's.
Do you guys have a name yet? I love A's name so much it must be hard to find a second name as great.
I was totally willing to cheap out on the 3D but I had one with #1 because my grandfather was on his death bed and I wanted him to see her before he died. And now I feel guilty that not only have I been slacking on bump pictures, but this kid is getting all used stuff. So in an effort for fairness I'm sticking it up. My parents will be here from the states, so it'll be a fun way for them to participate in my pregnancy.
hostess / watermelon / 14932 posts
@oliviaoblivia: awww I love both those names!! I lobbied for Amelia and Caroline myself.
@Radish: I was worried that it looked blue tinted. But when I took the painters tape down, it didn't look as blue without it there. I am hoping once accents and sheets and all that are in there it'll be more obviously grey!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@oliviaoblivia: That is exciting your parents will be there! I have a name we both agree on if can't find something I love, but I'm back on the hunt mode. I am really bad at committing to a name until I have to fill out the birth certificate form. I love Carolina, especially with the nn Lina with L's nickname! I was just pondering Celia for ours and it made me think of you (which is why I asked about names), which is funny because that kind of combines Carolina and Amelia.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@sorrycharlie: The blue tape totally throws off the color! We went with light mint for ours and I'm anxious to see how well it goes with all the stuff I already have... not that I am repainting.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@sorrycharlie: @mfa_lady: You guys are cray. I had to chug that GD stuff yesterday to avoid tasting it. There's just something about it that makes me gag!
Totally MIA. Work has been too busy for me to keep up every day, and I get behind on the thread. Jealous of all the nursery talk, but can't really contribute, since we can't really do one. Hope everyone is doing well!!

@Espion: Hahaha. This cracked me up! I'm sorry the drink is so gross for you--I wonder if it's a little different in different places?
pineapple / 12793 posts
@Espion: sorry yours was so gross. Mine wasn't awful, not something I'd order at a bar but not as revolting as others seem to find it. Hope you're work shows down a bit before baby gets here.
What are you all planning for mat leave?
I'm in Canada so I get a year. L will be home with me too. I'm looking into part time preschool for her so she doesn't get too bored with me.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@mfa_lady: @oliviaoblivia: My sister actually liked it! I'm anxious for the results today, though.
@oliviaoblivia: I'm taking a little less than 4 weeks off. I have to fly to Dallas for a work thing around the 21st of February, and as soon as I get back, I'll get back to work. I may think about working half days during those 4 weeks. I'm not sure though. Breast feeding didn't go very well the first time around. It will all depend on getting E full time in daycare.
nectarine / 2242 posts
I'm hoping to take 10 weeks for maternity leave. I get paid 60% for 6 weeks and then nothing the rest of the time, so I'm hoping we can make it work financially. We're sending DD1 to daycare while I'm on leave since we'd have to pay for her spot regardless, so that is the main expense.
Name-wise, boys names are so much harder for us to agree on! DD1 is Molly, and for this boy we are between Logan and Mac. We both love Mac but worry its not a "real" name (and we don't like anything its short for).
ETA - my username just changed - I used to be MrsTiger but MrBee had me change it since it was confusing now that there is a blogger with that name.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Espion: Oh nice, I love hearing of "real" people with the name!
To make things more confusing - our daughter is OBSESSED with our friend's son who is named Max, and just got a boy named Logan in her class. So either name I feel like will be a little confusing for her!

I am a SAHM, so either no or indefinate maternity leave depending on how you look at it.
@HappyBaker: I think Mac can stand on its own.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I'm my own boss so right now it's a definite 4 weeks minimum, however, it could stretch out to 6 weeks. My work is so easy to manage and it's not too crazy so I think I can ease back into it at 4 weeks.
@Espion: My mom liked the drink too but my aunt said it was awful lol
We're going to start tackling the nursery this weekend. It's just super overwhelming right now lol I have so much to do.

Yay! GD test was negative. I was a bit afraid because carbs are all I want to eat lately, and I have the second yeast infection (so much bleh) I've ever had in my life right now. I figured both meant that I'd for sure have too much sugar circulating around.

Sorry I've been so MIA again. Saturday mornings feel like the only real "me" time I have these days!
We finalized our move date (Oct 22) and the house we will be renting until at least April, which I love (a Victorian from 1902 with a huge kitchen, yay!) We won't be doing much to set up the nursery beyond ordering the crib, rug, and other "stuff" once we get settled. The wall color is a bit brighter yellow than I would choose, but it's nice. If we decide to rent this place long term, like for a few years, we might ask her if we can paint a few rooms.
Macys had a great sale the other day on maternity, buy 3 get one free, so I got one pair of Pea in the Pod jeans and three pairs of Motherhood Mat pants in black, khaki, and olive green. I think I'm mostly all set for tops, but I was STILL wearing my pre-preg "jeggings" until a few days ago, and they were not very comfy or flattering anymore Most of my old maternity clothes from J aren't reusable, because I don't work in an office anymore.
Speaking of that, I think I'll take 6-8 weeks after baby arrives before I get back to a few freelance writing assignments (I work from home on PR/writing projects). While solo parenting lately, I've stopped work entirely, and with DH's new paycheck, fortunately we can swing it. But I do like to have as much extra "fun money" as possible, so it will be nice to get the occasional check in the mail again.
We are trading in our SUV today for a Honda Odyssey, and I'm really really excited! We took one for a test drive yesterday - there's a cooler in the front powered by the car's AC, there are built in sun shades, lots more space, the automated sliding doors... so many good things for little ones. I resisted this for a while, but I guess I'm a full-on soccer mom now.
How about a few new little update questions:
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
-I love how his/her movements are so strong now - crazy rolls and kicks. I love that we've made it to viability now. I've started having dreams about the baby - the most recent, it was a girl with dark hair and eyes, so cute!
Least favorite part?
-Constantly peeing. I seriously pee probably 20 times a day. Sciatic nerve pain. Just physical stuff. I cannot imagine how this is going to feel in 10 weeks!
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
-A repeat of J's, honestly. Hospital, epidural. I was admitted at 3 cm, labored for 7 hard but manageable hours without meds, got an epidural, relaxed through another 3 hours of labor/transition, pushed for 15 minutes, and there he was!
persimmon / 1177 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I'm self employed and work at home (run an online shop) - so my leave is flexible. I close every year from Christmas - New Year's, and this year I'm just going to stay closed through January. Then it all depends how I do with a newborn! Once I'm ready to work full time again, my mom is going to come over a few days a week to watch baby so I can have some uninterrupted work time.
@keepcalmcarrie: new house, new car, new clothes - how exciting! We just upgraded my 2-door coupe to a Jeep Grand Cherokee a few weeks ago and I love the extra room. But I have a feeling it won't be enough when we're ready to have two kids.
Update questions:
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
I look obviously pregnant, so people are offering to help me carry stuff/open doors/etc. But I'm still feeling great - same as or better than pre-pregnancy.
Also love all the baby movement
Least favorite part?
Starting to have some sciatic nerve/back pain and I'm afraid it's going to stick around for the rest of the pregnancy.
I could also use a giant glass of red wine
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
Hoping for unmedicated/natural birth at a hospital, and preferably a short and easy labor and recovery But I've never done this before, so I'm not really sure what to expect!
apricot / 316 posts
@oliviaoblivia: My maternity leave is only 2 months which sucks because not only do I have to figure out how to take care of a baby in general, but I also have to figure out pumping and childcare for when I go back to work. It's so stressful just thinking about it.
@Espion: Congrats on the negative test!
Update questions:
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
Feeling the kicks and rolls.
Least favorite part?
Getting bigger and more uncomfortable. I just bought a maternity support belt so I'm hoping it will prevent any aches and pains as I get even bigger.
Having people constantly comment about the way I look ("you carry yourself well" or "wow, you're getting big") is definitely getting annoying.
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
A smooth one! I will most likely get an epidural because I doubt I'll be able to handle the pain for too long. I'm just hoping it won't be too traumatic hehe.
pear / 1846 posts
@charmed: That is interesting, what do you sell?
Update questions:
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
I love how DH says he gets so excited when he sees me and my bump. He is great and keeps telling me how good I look. Feeling my little boy move is great too.
Least favorite part?
This rib pain, I've had it since 17 weeks!
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
I'm hoping for a home birth but I know that they are very cautious and at the first hint of trouble it is straight to the hospital so I have to keep my fingers crossed.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@pmrlady: Do you have any flexibility with your days and your scheduling? I'm not sure how I'm going to pump, either, but I'm not letting work stand in my way if I have a good supply this time!
apricot / 316 posts
@Espion: I work in the hospital and clinics so my days vary. I'm hoping I will find time to pump every 3-4 hours. I think I'll be able to do it, I'll just have to let my coworkers know to cover me during those times. I think my bigger dilemma will be to find private places to pump other than the bathroom.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@pmrlady: If you can mess with your clinic template, you can build in some time. But that doesn't always work out.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@Snowdrop: Stationery & paper goods - wedding invitations, holiday cards, party invites, etc. November/December are my busiest months of the year, so I'll be ready for a break!
persimmon / 1313 posts
@charmed: Ah do you have an online shop? This is my first year with my paper shop open and I'm DYING with holiday prep. It's so stressful! My shop isn't my focus but I like having it lol
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
I'm enjoying her movements and just seeing how I'm adjusting to pregnancy. I know it doesn't last forever so I'm trying to enjoy the good things.
Least favorite part?
My sleep pattern is very unpredictable right now. I'm accustomed to not getting a lot of sleep but it sucks that sleep comes and goes when it feels like it. It's hard to work around!
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
I would love an unmedicated/natural birth at the hospital. I know birth is totally random so I don't have my brain set any way but to hopefully deliver her in the safest way possible.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
The bump! And the movement! This kid is starting to test my uterus for weak spots.
Least favorite part?
The acid reflux. And the floppy sleep. I'm back to flipping around like a rotisserie chicken while DH dreams of nachos.
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
A nice, routine repeat c-section!
nectarine / 2079 posts
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
I like the movement, but overall I just think the anticipation as I start to put things together and buy stuff for her.
Least favorite part?
Right now the chaffing. I also just don't have the energy I need.
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
In an ideal world I would just repeat exactly how my last one went down (induction, epi, less than 1 hr pushing). My biggest fear is that it will happen naturally too quickly now that my hospital is a 45 min drive away.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
I'll have to go back to read all your updates but here's mine:
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
I love all the movement and that even my little guy seems to understand that there is something going on because he loves coming over and pet/stroke my stomach.
Least favorite part?
The pain... Most of it sciatic pain and my ears are still muffled. So ready for that to go away.
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
I hope for another quick natural birth. My last birth was 6h from first contraction to baby so while I appreciate the quickness I'm really scared of the whole "the second time is so much faster than the first time thing". It doesn't help that my DH will likely be working 1.5-2h away in the two weeks prior to my EDD.

@namaste: Yep, you can see it here: http://tinyurl.com/mub29lr
What's your shop?
I've done holiday for 4 years now, but the prep never gets easier I'm also in the middle of moving my office to a different room so we can make that room the nursery, so it's extra chaotic right now!
@Espion: ugh, I've been flopping around all night too!

Hey everyone! I haven't checked in on Hellobee for a long while. Glad to see everyone's doing well. I've been knee deep in assessment and record keeping for the end of first quarter, but finally finished and it's a short week at school this week!
@keepcalmcarrie: Good idea on the update questions. Here's mine:
What's your favorite part about pregnancy right now?
We are having a great time just imagining what baby will be like, boy or girl, hair and eye color, etc. and trying to decide on names. It's really brought DH and me closer together.
Least favorite part?
I am stressing about maternity leave and what to do for childcare when I go back. I'll likely get six weeks, and that would mean we'd only need someone to take care of him/her for about two months before I'm off again for summer break. Planning to do some research later this week and see what my options are.
What kind of birth experience are you hoping for?
I'm hoping for a med-free, natural birth in a hospital. But healthy baby = most important, of course, no matter how he/she arrives!
