New Year, New Babes - January 2015 Moms

@MrsHansen82: so glad everything is OK!

Just had my 35 week appt. Baby is tracking to be 9-10 pounds. Meh. Has my GBS test.

And ordered a new car seat for DD1 as she grew out of RF height on her convertible.

Still don't have paint on the nursery walls.

Anyone else hopelessly behind on baby prep?

    How far along/EDD:
31 weeks! EDD is January 24.

    Total Weight Gain:
    16 pounds

    Stretch Marks:
    None that I can see.

    Gender:
    girl

    Names Picked:
None, and we can't agree. He really wants to incorporate his mother's name & I'm not a fan of this idea. I wish we were having more fun with it.

    Nursery Theme:
Don't really have one, but I guess the ones I find myself liking kind of look like hippie-meets-vintage school house...natural wood cribs, pictures of nature, mini bongos, maps. Oh gosh. This could be a disaster!

    Birth Plan:
Labor as much as I can at home, low to no intervention at the hospital. I've seen and heard of many birth plans going off the rails, so I'm trying not to get attached to the idea of my ideal birth.

How long are you taking off:
12 weeks, I believe, although we really need to sit down and crunch the numbers to see if this is a viable option.

    Milestones:
30 weeks felt like one b/c a clear countdown began. It's also when our yoga teacher starts calling us "big momma."

    Struggles:
Sleep! Restless or wide awake most nights--not uncomfortable, just awake. My legs are getting sore and are swollen by the end of the day.

What are you most fearful/concerned about?
She's breech and flipping transverse all the time. It's wearing me out and my desire for order wishes she would get head down and stay put!

I think I'll grow more nervous about the L & D as the time gets closer. I feel nervous that we don't have more things organized, like the nursery or frozen meals or things that I know don't REALLY matter, but it would help calm me.

People keep talking about how this winter is going to be long and cold, and I'm worried about PPD and winter blues being a rough combo.

What are you most excited about?:
That first moment of seeing her. I can't wait for that moment.

@oliviaoblivia: hello friend. We posted about the same time. Yes, we're way behind on baby prep! We do have clothes, a bassinet, and some diapers. I figure we at least have the minimal basics down.

I really want to stock our freezer with some food. And get a nursery together. And....and....so many things.

I am SO behind. Quick update then off to read and catch up!

Had my growth scan yesterday, they were saying my stomach measured too small. It did with DD too, so I wasn't concerned. But baby is measuring right on track and is 3 lb 12 oz, chubby cheeks! Saw proof she is still a she, so that made me feel better lol.

    @MrsHansen82: Glad everything is ok!

@HappyBaker: Wow that was super fast! How awesome. The prints look great!

@Raindrop: Yes, so thankful to be baby wearing!

@oliviaoblivia: Wait, there's a such thing as being on top of baby prep?

@sorrycharlie: I made my tech triple check sex today too. Baby girl is 6lbs12oz.... what a difference a few weeks make!

@namaste: I think having some things prepared is good. Baby girl is still short on floors and paint.... And her crib is in the wrong room full of big sister's out-grown clothes. I'm soooo behind!!

It's December - we are due next month! How is everyone feeling? How was Thanksgiving (for those in the US)?

  9. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@Radish: quite scary isn't it. Especially since so many of the December babies decided to make an early appearance. I'm pretty sure my LO is head down now but not totally sure. Hope they'll properly check it at my appointment on Wednesday. I've also made the appointment at the clinic that I want to deliver at to complete pre-registration on December 15th.

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@Radish: kinda freaking out. I have 30 days left!?!
On a brighter note, we're closing in on a name and the nursery paint is ready. Washed all of DD1s baby clothes so DD2 won't be naked at least.

Why did this pregnancy go by so quickly?!

  11. HappyBaker

    nectarine / 2242 posts

Yea totally freaking out now that it's December, and seeing how many of the December babies came in November!

I am feeling awful, but not pregnancy-related...headed to the doctor soon. I've had an awful cough since Tuesday and just don't seem to be getting any better. My pharmacist basically laughed at me when I asked what kind of cough / cold medicine and said to just drink tea and honey…but it's not cutting it!

  12. Radish

    nectarine / 2079 posts

@oliviaoblivia: haha I have 60 days left, I'd totally switch you (except I don't really want her that close to Christmas). Woohoo on a hopeful name!

@Pumuckl: I wouldn't be surprised if i ended up not going until February, so I'm trying not to get too attached to the idea of next month.

@HappyBaker: I hope you feel better soon! Being sick is the last thing you need at this point in a pregnancy.

  13. Pumuckl

    pomegranate / 3601 posts

@HappyBaker: sorry to hear you're sick. Hope you feel better soon and the Dr. can give you something that really helps.

@oliviaoblivia: yay for closing in on a name our poor LO is still nameless. Girl names are soooo hard.

@Radish: same here on the feb thing, I keep telling myself he will be here by valentines day

@Pumuckl: they are! We ended up on nameberry last night looking up DD1's name to see what other people that liked her name liked and DH days, no name is going to be as great as her name.

The name we're leading towards is the first one I got excited about 30 weeks ago!

@Radish: My due date is a month from Wednesday! So exciting/terrifying.

@Pumuckl: I'm waiting on some info about baby positioning, too...I feel this little girl ALL OVER the place, so I have no idea how she's situated in there.

@oliviaoblivia: Closing in on a name! So exciting! We're currently narrowed down to two...so I hope those are the two we go to the hospital with. We'll decide when we see her!

@HappyBaker: Feel better, lady! That sounds like the pits.

  17. oliviaoblivia

    pineapple / 12793 posts

@HappyBaker: sorry you're not feeling well! Being sick while pregnant is no joke. DH and I were both sick and I was so mad at him when he was complaining about how drowsy he was after taking nyquil. How you're better soon!

  18. HappyBaker

    nectarine / 2242 posts

Thanks guys! Just got back and its just viral bronchitis but she said I could take Mucinex so hoping that helps!

@oliviaoblivia: Yes I wanted to kill my husband because he was sick last week too and seriously loading up on nyquill / dayquill and saying how much it was helping!

@Radish: @Snowdrop: Haha same!! Us later in the month pregnancies unite!

I'm kind of being a weird superstitious Chinese person here... I hope LO comes out before Feb 4th so he will be a horse and not a sheep! We are totally on the edge! Horse year is slightly better than sheep... but not by much... but still!

  20. Happygal

    pomelo / 5000 posts

@oliviaoblivia: my husband and I are battling it out over names as well. I think we have first picked out, but the middle name is going to be a battle until the end. I had imagined it being a much sweeter process.

I'm making a voyage to IKEA on the 12th to get a crib. Any other favorite IKEA items out there?

@mfa_lady: My sister suggested going in with a short list of names. She said it was fun to have three possibilities and wait until they saw the baby to decide.

@Radish: Thanksgiving was pretty calm this year. Only one other sister made it in, and that was the day after. I couldn't go hog wild either with the food b/c of GD. I bundled up afterwards and walked for a mile, which actually felt good!

  21. Happygal

    pomelo / 5000 posts

@mfa_lady: my girl moves all the time. Sometimes it feels like she freaks out and has a little spaz attack. Last night I was taking a bath when she did it and my stomach was wild. I laughed, but today I started to wonder if I should be worried. Anyone else have a baby that goes wild like that?

This girl has been breech, transverse, and judging from hiccups, head down. She had me in tears with her sideways stretch move one night--it isn't really painful, but it is uncomfortable and takes a lot out of me. I'm really hoping on Friday they'll say she's head down and she will stay put!

  22. namaste

    persimmon / 1313 posts

@oliviaoblivia: We're also going with the first name we picked at the beginning! How exciting!

    @Raindrop: I'm a Horse year and I didn't even think about that!

@HappyBaker: Hope you feel better dear!

Ugh I had BH all day yesterday and it was absolutely miserable. Today it's like nothing ever happened except a few contractions every now and again but nothing too painful. At least the crib is together!

@Radish: eek that is scary! Next month (or this month!) we'll have a baby

Thanksgiving was great, and I also had a baby shower last weekend. I really need to go through all our stuff and figure out what we have and what we still need.

Doctor's appointment went well this morning. Doctor said that baby is either breech or transverse (based on her heartbeat being above my belly button) but said not to worry about it since she'll still move around for awhile yet. (And I know she does flip around a lot based on where I can feel hiccups )

@HappyBaker: hope the mucinex helps you feel better!

@Happygal: When we went to Ikea, I picked up some of the Ribba picture ledges to use as bookshelves in the nursery: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/20126065/
and these storage boxes to use as dresser drawer organizers: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S09012273/

@Snowdrop: That is my "I should have a baby in my arms" date as well.

@Raindrop: I can't remember, did you go past your due date last time?

I am pretty sure my existing stretch marks are getting darker I hope I don't get any new ones - there isn't much room left on my stomach for them as it is.

@Happygal: My first used to flip out all the time and it was usually uncomfortable and sometimes painful. I used to poke her back when she gave me some good jabs lol

@oliviaoblivia: don't make me go hunting for clues!! what name?!

@Radish: yep..I noticed mine made a reappearance too. not that they ever went AWAY but they definitely faded - and now, boom. hey there, stretch marks. lol.

@Happygal: @MapleMoose: Yes, this baby absolutely has those freak outs. Sometimes I feel like she's trying to bust out of there! Like MapleMoose said, I sometimes poke back!

You guys, ALL of my digestive/restroom activities are going nuts at this point. 35 weeks pregnant and some change is no joke. My "patterns," if you will, are completely nonexistent at this point, and I have no idea what to expect at any given time. Fine at home, not so great at work. Ha! Also, I am seriously peeing every hour during the workday. It's cramping my style!

  32. HappyBaker

    nectarine / 2242 posts

Thanks for the well wishes, feeling a little better today, just bummed my to-do list is at a stand still while I go to bed at 7:30pm!

I just ordered the last of the baby stuff we need - if you need anything random definitely check out Diapers.com - they are doing a "Cyber Week" where a ton of stuff is 30% off, I was able to get our bouncer and tons of nursing pads / breastmilk bags / pump accessories way cheaper than normal.

Also a PSA for postpartum supplies to have in advance - Tucks Medicated pads and Always Infinity pads were seriously the best thing ever for baby #1. The Tucks pads say they are for hemorrhoids I think so I thought I didn't need them but oh dear lord they give your lady bits some nice relief after delivery! The Always Infinity pads are super thin but really absorbent, and don't feel like you are wearing a diaper, much better than the ones you probably wore in junior high!

  33. Raindrop

@Radish: I did pass my due date by 3 days with the first one! If this one passes his due date by 6 days I get a sheep. But have GD this time around... so it's possible they won't let me get pass my due date... though my OB says I'm doing really good with my GD so she doesn't see any need for intervention.

  34. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

@mfa_lady: Lol that is no fun! And yes to peeing all the time. The other day I was leaving the house so I peed then put my jacket on and had to pee again!!!

@HappyBaker: Funny you mention postpartum supplies. I just threw some Tucks in my Amazon cart yesterday and made some padsicles. Those were amazing for relief. I'm also getting another bottle of Earth Mama Angel Baby New Mama Bottom Spray.

In case anyone has no idea what I'm talking about... Padsicles "recipe"
Place a bunch of super super thick pads on a cookie sheet. Open the packages of pads but don't peel the pad from the package liner because you will fold them up again. Soak the pads with witch hazel (some people also recommend aloe but I skipped it this time because it was messy to wear). Re-wrap the soaked pads. Place in freezer for an hour or so and then transfer to a freezer bag. Voila! Feels really good on swollen lady bits.

  35. HappyBaker

    nectarine / 2242 posts

@MapleMoose: I totally forgot about Padsicles, and I love that you already made some! So smart to have them ready in advance.

  36. MapleMoose

    grapefruit / 4213 posts

@HappyBaker: I figure they'll store fine in the freezer until delivery so one less thing to do later on.

  37. mfa_lady

    pomegranate / 3921 posts

    @MapleMoose: YES! It is ridiculous.

Also...I woke up last night to pee (surprise, surprise) and there were two wet spots on the left side of my nightgown. Both near/below my boob. Couldn't figure out what they were from...then realized perhaps my boobs were leaking? Could that be happening already?
