@mfa_lady: not this pregnancy, but last time I did for sure.
As far as newborn clothes, I mostly just did cotton sleepers with LO1. Our weather was way too mild for me to put LO in a micro fleece very often. The rule we left the hospital with was one more layer than we were comfortable in, so a sleeper (plus swaddle when sleeping) seemed like enough.

So, I had an appointment today and based on fundal height (3 weeks behind) and my weight (have only gained a total of a pound in the last month), my midwife is sending me for a growth ultrasound next week.
I know this stuff is totally normal, and baby girl is still moving around like crazy, but it's so hard not to be scared. Any encouraging, "Don't worry one bit" stories to share?

@mfa_lady: when I was pregnant with DD, Dh's bffs wife was due four weeks after me. She was small her entire pregnancy and made me super self-conscious of my enormous bump. She had to get a growth scan because of measuring small. The scan said he was fine. Baby boy was 9lbs 6 oz at 41w2d at birth.

@oliviaoblivia: You're the best. This is exactly what I needed to hear. Thanks!

@mfa_lady: just happened to some of our friends and they have now had a gorgeous baby girl who is nearly a month old now 6 pounds 13 at 40+5

@mfa_lady: I had tons of growth scans with DD and she was totally fine! she just really rolled into a ball in there, and I have a long torso. This baby, too, I had a growth scan two weeks ago because I was measuring 3 weeks small. This baby is actually larger than average..lol! Just think of it as another peek

So this little chick is already causing trouble. At my growth scan last week, she was frank breech. My OB wants to do another scan at my next appt (2 weeks) to make sure she turned. If not, they're doing a final scan at 36 weeks and then we have to discuss an external version or c-section.
I'm just hoping she turns on her own because neither of those options sounds super fun I'm already having anxiety about being away from DD for 2 nights with a vaginal delivery, I don't want to extend it anymore than I have to!

@mfa_lady: Both my brother and I ran small in measuring / dating.
My mom complains about me because no only was I small but I barely moved... seriously she went in like every week to check if I was still alive and yup every time the doctors would tell her I was fine just comfortable... she tells she should have know I would be lazy all my life because even in the womb I was lazy!
My brother was a premiee he was born at a little over 5lbs and I was a day late and I was born a little over 6lbs. We were probably measuring small because we ended up being small babies at birth.

How is everyone feeling? Any fun weekend plans?
My appt yesterday went well - cervix is totally closed, Dr. said not to worry about a small amount of brown spotting, he suspects it was DTD but I'm not on pelvic rest or anything (though worrying could be a bit of a mood killer, do I'm not sure when we'll attempt that again).
I feel like baby is trying to punch a hole through my belly button these last few days. I also gained 6 lbs in 2 weeks, which no one said anything about but still... yikes. #thanksgiving I'm up 18 lbs total now.
I'm planning on doing a whole lot of nothing this weekend, other than decorating the tree and watching Christmas movies, which sounds perfect.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: glad you had a good appointment! 18 pounds sounds like a very reasonable weight gain to me at this point, and if your doctor didn't say anything, then it's all good in my book.
Weekend plans include a baby shower for me on Saturday! I'm looking forward to it, although I do find being the center of attention uncomfortable. I usually try to spend Fridays doing consultant/free lance work, but today I'm cleaning for people coming in to visit and on the hunt for a bra (finally) that fits!
@mfa_lady: let us know how the appt goes. It seems like there is a lot of variation between the estimated growth and actual birth weight. I'm glad people could share reassuring stories with you.
@sorrycharlie: Just got back from a doctor's appointment. Baby is head down as of right now (she's been breech and transverse), but since she's so active, my doctor said not to celebrate just yet. 36 weeks is his marker for being concerned. He also relieved me from feeling like I had to be doing spinning baby stuff......he pointed out that sometimes babies turn for a reason, so it's not always good to monkey with them unless you have a full picture of what's going on. Whew.

I'll have to go back to catch up with everyone but here's my little update. I caught B's stomach bug and was miserable yesterday. It didn't help that I still went to my OB appointment and instead of the normal 30min it took 2h! Uhhhh... Cervix is still short so I'll have to continue hanging out on the couch. Then last night things took a turn for the worse when suddenly I was having contractions. Luckily they got better once I got some fluids into me but baby girl is now descended into my pelvis which doesn't help the pressure on my cervix. I really thought she was gonna fall out this morning when I woke up. I guess the good news is that this implies she's head down now.
@keepcalmcarrie: no plans for the weekend except to get everyone healthy again.

@mfa_lady: just read your question on baby cloths. We never really had any NB sized cloths since B was 22.5in at birth, so we started out with 3m cloths. I loved the wrap kind of bodysuits because it was easier getting those on for as long as the head was still wobbly. We had about 10-12 or so and it was not uncommon to go through 3 or sometimes even more a day. Other than that he mainly wore footed clothing and we had a little fleece sack (similar to what maplemoose posted) that we used A LOT. It was so easy

@Pumuckl: sorry you've been so sick! That's awful! Hopefully it all passes soon.
@keepcalmcarrie: just house work and Christmas shopping planned here. Boring.
@mfa_lady: we did outfits early on because DD has nine very generous aunts that overspent on gifts. This go around we'll do mostly PJs. DD was big so skipped she newborn sizes entirely.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Pumuckl: I'm so sorry. That sounds like pure misery. How are you passing couch time?
Did you all read about the flu vaccine? Sounds like the CDC missed the boat this year. Fingers crossed mine pulls through for me and I skip the sickness--not always easy to do in a school setting!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@Happygal: My husband was telling me about that. Luckily, we aren't around many germs often.
I drove to our hospital for the first time today, it is even further than I thought (especially with all the lights). I am not looking forward to the idea of driving there while being in labor.

So after a crazy couple of days I possibly have Pre-E I went to the ER yesterday because I was having really bad chest pain, they checked me out heart and clot wise and everything was fine, but my BP and heart rate were high. This morning I went to a follow up with my OB and my BP was even higher, so they sent me to Labor & Delivery to get monitored.
I spent 3 hours there (ugh!) and my BP would go down after resting but as soon as I changed positions / sat up it would go back up again. So now I get to collect my pee for 24 hours on Sunday, and head back Monday morning to get it checked out and get monitored again!
I was surprised that even though they don't know for sure if it is Pre E or not, she doesn't want me to go back to work. I'm hoping my boss will let me work from home, otherwise not sure what I'm going to do!

@mfa_lady: I hope the growth ultrasound shows everything is going well, at least you'll get another look at baby =)
@keepcalmcarrie: 18 lbs sounds just right. I gained a ton of weight in the past few weeks but some of it is due to my ankle swelling. The nurse who took my weight during my last visit gave me a worried look but my Ob didn't seem concerned. I'm not even paying attention to the scale anymore and just hoping it will all come off eventually lol.
@Pumuckl: Sorry you had the stomach bug! I am battling a cold right now and it sucks. I'm already hardly sleeping and adding nasal congestion on top of it is making me miserable.
@HappyBaker: Oh no! I hope your urine test results will be within normal and your BP gets better.
I am so ready for this pregnancy to be over. On top of the heartburn, I am having crazy indigestion and the zantac is not helping with that at all. I am constantly feeling like I need to burp but even after burping multiple times I don't get any relief and still feel bloated and gassy. I can no longer sleep on one pillow because I'm just so uncomfortable.
At least the weekend is here!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@HappyBaker: Ughh, that sucks. I hope it's just a fluke and that your boss will work with you. @Radish: I guess we should get a January Baby watch thread going in the next couple of weeks for announcements, huh? With all the December moms going a couple weeks early, it's crazy to remember that we could have babies from this group in two or so weeks!
I had my sonogram today. Baby was measuring right on target at the 55th %-ile. He was estimated at 4 lbs. 15 oz., which means (if that's accurate) that he's already bigger than Finn was when he was born and only has a pound to go to pass Elliot. The most important part was seeing whether my placenta had moved high enough. She measured it at 4 cm apart, which *should* mean that I'm cleared to do a trial of labor and go for the VBAC. My OB got called to a c-section, so I haven't officially heard from his mouth that I'm good to go, but previously he said he wants it to be at least 2 cm apart.

@Pumuckl: I'm SO sorry! Finn got a stomach bug last night, and all day I've been praying that none of us get it because having that while pregnant sounds so miserable! I hope you feel better asap!
persimmon / 1096 posts
@Pumuckl: ugh, I had a stomach bug at 39 weeks pregnant last time, and it was hell. I also got contractions at the same time, probably from dehydration. I hope you're feeling better now.
@HappyBaker: Oh gosh, I hope all is well! I was just thinking that the other day when I had my spotting too - like, this feels way too soon, but statistically a few of us probably will end up with December babies. How are you feeling now?
@Happygal: @pmrlady: thanks ladies, I know you're right. I only gained 19 lbs total the first time, so I'm just a little freaked out. I feel SO much huger and more uncomfortable this time around. I also don't own a scale, so sometimes the numbers take me by surprise!
@pmrlady: I feel the same. I mean, I know baby should cook in here a lot longer, but I am SO done. I never felt like this with J - I was afraid of the sleep deprivation, and caring for a newborn, and delivery. Not this time - bring it on. None of that stuff was as tough as I thought it would be.

@keepcalmcarrie: Glad all went well, lady! We're hoping to get our tree tomorrow, but it's pouring rain here...so we might have to wait a little while.
@Happygal: Hope your shower was great today! Also, nothing like having a January baby when the flu vaccine isn't working. UGH!
@Pumuckl: Thanks for the clothes info--and I hope you're feeling better!!!!
@oliviaoblivia: Thanks lady!
@HappyBaker: Oh, gosh! So sorry to hear this. I hope you can work something out with your job. I'll be thinking about you!
@pmrlady: SAME SAME SAME on the heartburn and indigestion. It's miserable!
@Mrs. Blue: Yay for a VBAC! I hope it goes smoothly for you!!!

@Happygal: couch time is mainly spent surfing the interwebs and with crochet. Well and sometimes with a nap
@HappyBaker: oh no, pre e sounds scary. Hope it's nothing and you get to continue your pregnancy like normal.
@Radish: thanks for reposting the list. I guess technically the first January is already here although Mrs. Pom Pom was never part of the thread I believe.
Things here have improvement. Now we only have to get rid of B's diarrhea as well. Hope by tomorrow or Monday we're all back to eating and drinking normally. Luckily there were no more contractions. But with baby so low I'm in full on waddling mode now. Really hoping to not have baby before the new year though, that be really early.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Pumuckl: Ooh crocheting is such a great idea to pass the time! I'm hoping to to work from home but there honestly isn't much to do so I was thinking I'd be bored out of my skull.
I tried to really rest today but it was really hard with a 2 year old in the house. We may have watched Tangled twice? Oops. This morning I took my BP at home and it was really high, but after resting (and my daughter being away at gymnastics for an hour) it got back down to a better spot, so it definitely seems like rest is the answer. Can't wait to collect my pee all day tomorrow! Ha.
persimmon / 1096 posts
@Pumuckl: @HappyBaker: Glad you were both able to get *some* rest. It is so, so hard with a LO in the house. I have no limits with screen time right now, honestly. I'm like "first, we'll watch Curious George. Then Daniel Tiger. Then it's time for Elmo, yay! Then maybe we'll pop in the Peppa Pig DVD... doesn't that sound like fun?!" The only limit is how uninterested J is after half an hour I'll keep trying, though. It's survival mode at this point.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@HappyBaker: hope your BP comes down, and you're able to figure something out for work!
@Mrs. Blue: yay for being cleared to try for a VBAC - that's great!
@Pumuckl: I'm having the opposite problem as you- baby is so high I feel like I can't take a deep breath. Why can't these babies just hang out in the middle?
I'm in full on nesting mode right now. The other day I made a list of all the things we "needed" to do before baby comes and sort of freaked out. It doesn't help that the holidays are my busiest time with work, not to mention Christmas shopping and all the parties we have to go to over the next couple weeks. Yesterday was my last free weekend day until after Christmas
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@charmed: Good for you on the nesting! Don't be freaked out--just go with it. I'm feeling totally overwhelmed by the last of completion in baby girl's room...but I'm trying to chill out. Haha. So hopefully I can follow my own advice. We also have pure craziness from now until Christmas, so I feel you. We can do it!
I have an appointment this morning and am feeling huge, so maybe my fundal height/weight will be a little more normal today. I'm trying to be excited about the growth scan on Thursday instead of worried....because it has, after all, been almost 13 weeks since I've seen this little nugget!
She's definitely starting to run out of room in there, too. Her movements are feeling less like movements and more like pressure, to the point where I often think "Was that her, or was that a BH?"
How's everybody else feeling this morning?
nectarine / 2079 posts
I'm just getting a little impatient with how difficult getting around and picking up LO are becoming. I am so ready to be back to my regular self. Boring doctors appointment tomorrow.
With LO1s pregnancy, I had vivid dreams constantly the entire time and a long time postpartum. This time I have rarely had them, but last night was crazy. I hate how I wake up feeling far less rested with them - despite getting the most sleep I've gotten in a night in a long time.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
I'm catching up on all your updates now. My LO has had a high fever since Saturday so we've been dealing with that. Thankfully no ear infection, vomiting, diarrhea, and airways are clear. Just some annoying virus that's making my baby miserable!!
@HappyBaker: How scary with the high BP! Did you get the results of the 24 hour urine catch back yet?
@charmed: I think the anxiety is part of the nesting. You feel this severe drive to complete all the things immediately.
@mfa_lady: I am having that uncomfortable pressure too, like the baby is pushing it's body outward with all it's might!
@Radish: Every time someone said "rest now before the baby comes" I wanted to scream lol. Sleep is not good in the 3rd trimester. Maybe it's our bodies preparing us for the upcoming months.
nectarine / 2242 posts
Man it seems like everyone's LO's are sick, I feel like it's going to be a long winter! Hope everyone feels better soon.
I went this morning for a NST and to have them check out my urine, the urine looked good but my BP was still high until I rested for 45 minutes or so. So I'm now going to be going twice a week to get monitored and will probably repeat the 24 hour urine catch weekly so they can catch it if it turns into Pre-E. They said there's a pretty good chance it will, and that I'll get induced early regardless since my BP is already so high.
I actually feel a lot less stressed out now knowing I'll be monitored more, and that I'll probably be induced so I can plan care for DD better. My boss was totally ok with me working from home too so overall not too bad.
Also, this is the second OB that has said my baby was the most active she has ever seen on a NST, and I felt like he was actually being calm compared to normal. He is going to be a terror!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@MapleMoose: So sorry to hear about your LO! Hope things get better soon. And yes--that's a great way to put it with the pressure. It's like, STAY IN THERE, OKAY! Be comfy! Haha. If she's pushing straight out, my entire belly is so hard, but then if she's on the side it's like one side is so hard and stretched out and the other size is squishy. It's so weird and kind of gross....I make my husband feel it all the time. Ha!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@HappyBaker: All in all, sounds like a good update! I'm sorry you're dealing with the high BP--I can't imagine how frustrating that is! I totally hear you about peace of mind with more monitoring, though. Please keep us updated if you learn more about the induction! Great news about working from home, too. All that to say, I'm thinking about you! Hope all goes as smoothly as possible.
