@HappyBaker: Last time my OB did cervical checks at 39 and 40 weeks but said only if I wanted them, not as part of her routine.
@namaste: Sounds like something is going on in there. Hang in there mama!

When I walked by a coworker just now, she said to another coworker "Man, MFA Lady is SO PREGNANT." Hahahaha. Why, yes. Yes I am. I guess this is what almost 38 weeks looks like?

Check in again - how is everyone feeling?
@namaste: Anything new? I hope things are either progressing or getting more comfortable for you - stuck in limbo is no fun!
@mfa_lady: Ah, I love the peanut gallery comments in the late third trimester! My FIL, who is a really nice guy, is always making smart remarks - and they're rarely directed at me, but last time they visiting in early November, MIL said "ah, you're still so tiny!" and he was like "Give it time, there are still lots of months to go," and I've gained about 15 lbs since then, so I'm anticipating - I don't know - something along the lines of "WHOA!"
Still having these same stabby cervix pains. They're much much worse when lifting anything or walking a lot, so I'm trying to lay on the couch or sit down and not carry J too much. It's hard!

Feeling OK. Actually my hip pain is almost entirely gone! So that is great. I still am suffering with heartburn and feeling gigantic but otherwise I feel pretty good. Lots more BH contractions than a month ago! Getting kind of excited to meet this little babe.

Also feeling okay but really sick of working from the couch after only 2 weeks! Work has been a little crazy too so the days have been flying by, I'm trying to train my replacement which is always sort of a pain / time suck.
All of our parents have the next two weeks off for the holidays so it would be GREAT to have the baby within that time frame, but I have a feeling he won't cooperate. Resting has really helped my BP stabilize so maybe I won't even get induced? Who knows, I am so ready, 37 weeks on Sunday!

@mfa_lady: @keepcalmcarrie: don't people know that the only appropriate thing to say to a pregnant lady about her size/appearance is "you look beautiful"?
Went to the chiropractor this afternoon and I feel sooo much better now! My hips don't hurt as bad, and I feel like I can actually take a deep breath again - getting adjusted must have coaxed baby down and away from my lungs a bit.
Hope you all have a great weekend!!

I've almost hit the end of my rope here! I'm feeling bigger than ever and sleeping has gotten more difficult. I wake up with excruciating pain in whichever hip I'm sleeping on. I'm also feeling tons of pressure in my lower belly/pelvic area that HURTS! It feels like my bladder and urethra are just being pinched. I'm so ready to meet this little girl and to have my old body back! 37 weeks 1day today, so anytime in the next week or two would be just fine with me. Sorry to whine, but ugh!!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: Right? I had an improved experience at my appointment today when the nurse said "Look at that thing! So cute!" Meaning my belly...so she kind of made up for the other weird comments this week. Haha.
@charmed: THIS IS WHAT I TELL EVERYONE. "You look great" or some variation is the absolute only thing you should say if you really must comment on a pregnant lady's looks.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
Also, had an appointment today! All looks good according to my midwives...I gained a LOT of weight since the beginning of last week, which I guess is good because I hadn't been gaining much before then (hence the growth ultrasound, etc). I measured right on target today, and baby's in a good position. My midwife estimated she's in the low 7s weight-wise right now.
At this point, I think it's just a waiting game! 38 weeks tomorrow and I really just need her to stay in until after I host my ILs for Christmas.

@charmed: Same for me! My 36-week appointment was Wednesday. Baby is head-down. Yay!! What's your due date?
persimmon / 1177 posts
@MrsHansen82: sleeping sucks for me too Just uncomfortable and waking up a lot. Have you tried a chiropractor or massage? (or if that's not in the budget, a foam roller has been great for my hips/lower back)
Both have really been helping me the last month, I never realize how stiff and out of alignment I am from carrying around this baby until I go.
@mfa_lady: glad your appointment went well!
@CatchAFallingStar: January 10th - I can't believe how close it's getting!

I had my 36w appt yesterday. Everything looks good and I've got the official thumbs up for a trial of labor in hopes of VBACing, assuming no complications arise. I'm just trying to walk, bounce on the exercise ball, and do anything else I can to help encourage my body to start preparing for labor since they won't induce me. My cervical check basically showed nothing going on, but I know there's plenty of time. I also got my group b strep test done. I'm hoping it's negative so I can avoid an IV for a while.
I'm actually kind if surprised we haven't had any January babies yet. It seems like a few always come the month before.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Hooray for getting the clear for a VBAC!
@mfa_lady: Hope she holds off until after the festivities!
I'm getting new stretch marks, I think.
apricot / 316 posts
@MrsHansen82: same here with being fed up with all the aches and pains. I'm already at 38 weeks so I know I should take advantage of these last days that I have to myself but I just want my body back.
Although, I've been following the December postpartum board and it's definitely scary seeing all the issues that can come up, so I'm torn between wanting this baby to come right now and being terrified of what lies ahead haha
persimmon / 1481 posts
@charmed: I do have a foam roller, but I guess I soaced on using it! Baby brain! I have been doing wall squats with my excersise ball and that feels really good too. Also I make DH roll tennis balls on my back before we go to sleep at night.
@pmrlady: I know! I'm not looking forward to a sore vag for weeks...
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Radish: I'm getting new ones, too, which is super annoying since I know I'm way smaller than last time. Apparently, my old stretch marks are all on my loose, hangy skin (glamorous, I know), and this baby is therefore stretching marking it up a bit higher. Good thing I have no bikini aspirations.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@Mrs. Blue: I'm glad you are cleared for VBAC!
I'm surprised we haven't had any January baby appearances either, but I need, need, need this baby to stay in until my c-section date (the 22nd). I just looked at my schedule at work, and I have a HUGE thing scheduled for the Monday the 19th. How that happened, I have no idea.
I feel kind of horrible though. Like I'm way more pregnant at 35 weeks than I ever felt at 39 weeks with E.
And this may be total, uh, didn't need to know that, but I started my daily poop softener in anticipation for baby day. Believe me, this is prophylaxis I believe in. Completely worth it whether you have a c-section or not!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@Mrs. Blue: Mine are up higher as well. I noticed the very top ones were bright red so I'm pretty sure they are new.
@Espion: I also feel way more pregnant than I ever did last time and I still have 6 weeks to go.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@Radish: I hate that you feel this way too, but it kind of relieves me to hear you say it. I was beginning to think something was wrong (in my blow it out of proportion pregnancy head).
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@CatchAFallingStar: Glad baby is in a good position!
@Mrs. Blue: YAY VBAC! I hope your GBS test is negative. I was really happy yesterday when I found out mine was.
@pmrlady: I'm with you--not sure which is scarier...being pregnant for much longer or actually coming home with a baby!

@Mrs. Blue: thank you for posting this! I thought I was probably the only one. I'm so depressed to see them up higher and I'm still shy of 37 weeks too so afraid to see more.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@bhbee: yeah, that was a "lovely" surprise to get newer, higher knew this early. I mean, I try to tell myself the whole "badges of honor" thing, but they still annoy me.
nectarine / 2242 posts
Can you have contractions only really low? Last night I had some really intense pain that kept coming back but wasn't trackable or anything.
You'd think I'd remember but with my daughter my water broke and I had to go to the hospital because I had Group B so when contractions started I was already on the monitors / didn't have to track them or anything!
apricot / 316 posts
@HappyBaker: I get painful tightening at times also and it's usually only the lower abdomen or only one side. I think it's most likely braxton hicks. Real contractions should involve the entire uterus and come closer together as time passes, at least that's what I read online.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@MrsHansen82: hope the foam roller helps!
@oliviaoblivia: mine too I used to be a lot heavier when I was younger (like, bigger than I am now at 37 weeks), so it's scary to see all those old stretch marks spread out again.
@pmrlady: I read through the December postpartum thread the other day too I am trying to prepare myself for never sleeping again, along with the other pains that come after childbirth . . .
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@Mrs. Blue: glad you got your clearance for the VBAC. I luckily so far haven't gotten new stretch marks but I got them really late in the game last time too and not on my belly.
@HappyBaker: real contractions were all over my stomach last time. But then I never had back labor maybe with that you only feel it in the lower abdomen. Maybe one of the other second timers has any experience there.
pomelo / 5000 posts
@keepcalmcarrie: I think this baby must be stabbing my cervix as well (or maybe it's the bladder?) It will be so sharp and uncomfortable that it will make me shift in my seat or cross my legs if standing up. Ouch!
@charmed: I'm glad the chiro was able to provide you relief. I've never been, but I have friends who swear by it!
@HappyBaker: that's great that your BP has lowered. Fingers crossed it stays in the normal range for you.
@Espion: no such thing as TMI here. And this is the kind of "Been there, done that" advice that I appreciate! Will put colace on the grocery list come January.
@charmed: I haven't read through that, but my sisters talk about the newborn phase with a mixture of emotions....nostalgia and "that was the hardest thing ever." I also have friends who luck out with easy babies, or maybe it's their own easy going temperament. I'm planning on reminding myself often that this phase passes quickly.

I had a dr. appt. Friday that went well. Baby hasn't engaged, but she's still head down for now. Normal growth at this point, but my gestational diabetes numbers are getting harder to control. I don't know what the endocrinologist will recommend, but I'm bracing for having to go on insulin.
I was supposed to have my strep test, but I didn't know what that involved and wasn't mentally prepared for my rectum to be swabbed. It's no big deal, right? I kind of wish I had just had it done so I wouldn't be dreading it.
Yesterday I was wiped out with fever, cough, and totally blocked sinuses that still managed to run like a faucet. I don't think my husband has ever seen me look so rough. But feeling better this morning!
My main gripe are my swollen legs. For some reason, I really thought that wouldn't happen to me. But cankles are my reality, and they ache all day long.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@pmrlady: Yes that is exactly what it felt like! Good to know that it's not legit. I'm also kind of glad to have twice weekly NST's so I can see if anything is happening for real.
@Pumuckl: Thanks, good to know!
@Happygal: Weird about the strep test, mine was definitely NOT a rectal swab! They just swabbed inside my vagina / it was super quick and painless. Hope you are still feeling better today!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Happygal: Hoping you can keep the GD under control. I know that must be really challenging, especially this time of year. As for the GBS test, I actually did my own! They sent me into the bathroom with instructions, and I did it. The kind they do at my practice has to go into your lady parts and then just get dragged across the anus. Apparently the bacteria can live in both places. Maybe yours will be more like that, too! Super easy and painless, like @HappyBaker: said. I'm also with you on the swollen legs. People are always telling me I'm "all belly," but these days it's more like all belly and cankles. Feel better today!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@HappyBaker: interesting! I guess if it's in your rectal area, there's a chance of it traveling to other areas?
pomelo / 5000 posts
@mfa_lady: so there's no insertion of anything into that area? That would make me happy. When do you find out your results?
I'm pretty good with my diet, but some people just have a harder time as hormones increase in pregnancy. Guess I'm part of that club. My fasting numbers in particular are getting higher than the acceptable amount--some people set their alarms in the middle of the night to eat a snack, but with my sleep being not so great to begin with, I'm not about to add midnight snacks to the mix!
As for cankles, I'm half grossed out, half amazed by them. It's such a weird feeling to press your finger in and not immediately feel a bone!
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Happygal: For me, there was no insertion. It did have to go into the vagina--but not into the rectal area. Literally just had to drag it over it. (Sorry for the graphic-ness, just trying to keep it real!)
I have been having my husband rub my feet/ankles/calves every night (let me just tell you, he's LOVING it...insert sarcastic face here, haha) and that does seem to help a little. A lot of my shoes aren't exactly comfortable anymore, though. I've been wearing my Minnetonka moccasins EVERYWHERE. Most days I add fun socks just for kicks.

It's mighty quiet over here today! How is everyone?
I'm at work, wishing I wasn't, staring out into the rainiest day on the planet and thinking about the million and one things I have to do before my ILs start arriving for Christmas tomorrow night. Gah!
Oh, also, baby girl started dropping big time this weekend. All of a sudden my belly looks totally different. She's still not super low, because she started so high, but still. Pretty nifty! 38+2 today, so I guess she's getting herself ready!
nectarine / 2932 posts
@mfa_lady: don't mind me - just stalking to say AHHH! I can't believe how close you are! We need to meet up again once you've got your bearings with her And your belly is adorable!

@mfa_lady: Ughhh rain! Rain is nice for napping, not so much for errands.
Nothing much here. Finally mailed some Christmas cards, nesting around the house. Lightning crotch going on, hoping my BP is normal tomorrow morning at my 35 week appt!
