@Littlebit: Girl, I can't believe how close it is either! Having a due date so close to the holidays is kind of nutty--I have all these crazy distractions which is good and bad at the same time. And yes, let's definitely get together! I get ten weeks off work so maybe toward the end of that I'll have it together enough for a real outing!

@sorrycharlie: Right?! We have soooo many errands tonight and it's supposed to keep raining and raining and raining. Biggest bummer! At least I didn't wash my hair this morning. (Yes, these are thing I actually think about. Sad. Ha!)
I'll be thinking about you tomorrow--hope that BP is back to normal!

@mfa_lady: Just running errands, exhausting myself carrying my toddler from place to place. But now I'm home and hopefully LO will take an afternoon nap. She's 14 months and some days she doesn't nap, at all. My sleep needs are higher than hers, I swear. I bribe her with Curious George. No shame.
@sorrycharlie: hahaha "lightning crotch". Actually a perfect description. It's been stopping me in my tracks and sometimes I gasp because it's so sharp and I can never predict when it's going to happen.

@MapleMoose: Errands are completely miserable over here, and all I'm dealing with is rain and a big belly. I can't imagine adding a 14-month old to the mix. You go, super mama!

@mfa_lady: I can't believe how close your due date is. What is your prediction - early, on your due date, or late?
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@MapleMoose: I wish I had a feeling one way or another! My brother and I were both born on our due dates, so maybe that could happen? My due date is my grandfather's birthday, so that could be cool. My husband thinks she's coming any day now, just because I'm so whiny about being pregnant these days...but I've tried to explain to him that everyone feels like this for a while at the end. Ha!

@sorrycharlie: Hope your BP is doing ok!
@Happygal: Feel better soon!
@mfa_lady: My belly is definitely low lol it's in my lap right now. It's so strange!
This little lady is still in the same place as last week. My doctor is sort of praying I stay the same until after Thursday lol. To be fair, she's pregnant and it's her first baby so I wouldn't want to be called in for me either on Christmas Day Everything is still ever so uncomfortable with strong contractions every now and again.
They will probably do a membrane sweep at my next appointment on Tuesday if things are still the same.

@sorrycharlie: I have my growth scan tomorrow so we're appointment buddies tomorrow.
Things here are getting more uncomfortable by the day. Quite excited to see what the Dr. says concerning the length of my cervix and whether or not I started dilating. Somehow things have become more real in the last few days. The whole reality of having two under two soon is starting to sink in. I've really started to enjoy the moments I have with B alone and really glad he'll get to be the center of attention on Christmas one last time. (Sorry for being a sappy mess).
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@namaste: I'm with your doctor, except I'm hoping for MYSELF that baby stays in until after Christmas! We're hosting my husband's entire family for Christmas Eve dinner and Christmas breakfast (which will inevitably mean the whole day) and I just need to stay not-in-labor pregnant through that. I'm really excited about having them, but also terrified that the work/stress/activity will send me into labor. Haha.
Unlike you, though, I'm not having any signs of labor, so I think I'm in the clear! Minus a couple of (maybe?) BH contractions and this baby dropping, I've got nothing. But my mom was one of those women who never dilated or felt a thing until she was actually in labor, so perhaps I'll be the same. I'm just generally uncomfortable but nothing that's a real "sign" of anything.
I have been thinking of you--I hope you're feeling a bit better and that the contractions don't get too bad until baby girl is really coming!!
@Pumuckl: Good luck at your growth scan! Hope all goes well. And sap away, lady! It's a big deal to have a last holiday with just your first babe--enjoy every second!
persimmon / 1313 posts
@mfa_lady: You and your mom are so lucky! I would have preferred to just hang out until things were serious. I'm sure your Christmas will be fantastic! We have no plans so it really wouldn't matter to me if I were in labor or not lol Apparently our labor ward has been super busy this week though so I will hang out and wait for her to come.
The problem is the pain comes and goes and when it comes, it lasts for hours and gets unbearable. If it were just mild cramping and being uncomfortable, I'd be fine.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@namaste: Our doula said that when there's a full moon and/or a pressure change, it sends lots of women into labor...and here it's currently 38 degrees and is supposed to be 68 on Christmas Eve. I'm thinking lots of ladies will be headed to the hospital that day. And the next full moon is the day after my due date, so...who knows?!
Has your OB checked baby's position at all? It really sounds to me like she might be trying to get in a good position to come out. I've heard that contractions from repositioning can get really serious, even though they never stay regular and don't cause dilation. That might be it!

Had my 37 week appointment this morning, nothing too exciting except that I do have Group B Strep again = so annoying! The IV was definitely my least favorite thing of being in the hospital last time so I'm bummed I have to deal with that again.
They said they may not induce at all because my BP has stabilized, crazy that two weeks ago I thought I'd have this baby by now because of the BP!
Hoping he stays in there for at least this week of crazy Christmas plans.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@mfa_lady: She is head down but not sure if she's face up or down. She was face up last week.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@HappyBaker: Aw, sorry about the GBS! And I hope he stays in til after Christmas, too! So glad your BP has stabilized. Good for you for taking such good care of yourself!
@namaste: Yeah! I think that could do it! Apparently face-up babes are pretty hard to birth...so they like to get themselves into better positions before they have to make their way into the world. You may find this way too weird, but my doula suggested these exercises for baby positioning: http://spinningbabies.com/techniques/activities-for-fetal-positioning/pelvic-tilts (basically cat/cow) and http://spinningbabies.com/techniques/the-inversion (definitely watch the video--the music is HILARIOUS). ETA: Oh and also she suggested trying to always sit so that bellybutton is "neutral or pointing down" for positioning, too. I personally find that one REALLY hard...it means way less slouching and leaning/laying back, but I'm willing to give it a shot if it helps.
pear / 1846 posts
@mfa_lady: we were given the same advice about positions. Basically slouching is off limits
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Snowdrop: Right?! It's the absolute worst. I'm like UMM I can't even sit up that straight in my normal life....how am I supposed to do it now???

@HappyBaker: glad your BP stabilized!
@namaste: @mfa_lady: I'm also hoping I don't go on Christmas, mostly because I feel like there will be a shortage of staff since a lot of people will be taking that day off. I work in healthcare and usually the ones left working on holidays are those who are at the bottom of the hierarchy and don't get their first picks on vacation days hehe.
I had my Ob appointment today at 38w4d. Baby's head is lower but I haven't dilated any more than last time.
My GBS test was negative so that's good. She is going on her holiday vacation on wednesday and the plan is for me to see her in January if I still haven't delivered and schedule an induction. Hope it won't come to that.
My main issue now (besides being super uncomfortable) is really bad constipation. I don't know if the baby laying lower is compressing my intestines but it's really bad lol Drinking more water and increasing fiber is not helping so I bought some milk of magnesia today and hoping that will work. Ugh I'm so over pregnancy...

Um. Am I the only one that just realized January starts NEXT WEEK?!

@HappyBaker: So glad your BP has stabilized! I'm pretty sure I will test positive for GBS again as well, since they keep finding it in my urine. Hope baby holds off for the holidays.

@HappyBaker: Isn't it wild?! Glad your BP is better!
@pmrlady: I've started taking a daily dose of my son's MiraLAX in a small cup of coffee. No way, José am I going to deal with constipation after a c-section. I am decidedly anti-hemorrhoid.
@Snowdrop: @mfa_lady: Oh yeah, I remember with my first pregnancy, I read that I shouldn't be putting my feet up, slouching, etc. etc. I doubt changing my posture would have helped that much, though!
@mfa_lady: You might be getting close! With E, DH heard that sex could sometimes induce labor. When I was getting close to 39 weeks, immediately after sex he'd look at me like a bomb could go off any second! I swear he asked me if "we should go to the hospital now". Oh, I lol'd!
It is so crazy that so many of you ladies are already basically term! I'm getting zero checks, zero ultrasounds, and basically zero interventions because of my repeat scheduled section. So everything feels lowkey, except for my workload and feeling like I'm 120 weeks pregnant. (I actually had to sit on a bench and rest today before I could walk back to my office.)

I have less than seven days. Sad and excited. This second time mama thing is tougher than I expected. My baby is going to be a big sister and really has no idea what's coming.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I hear you. E's world is going to be rocked. I'm a little reassured to hear daycare say that he likes to look at the babies at daycare, but I'm not sure how he's going to take it. And with the c-section...I just don't know how we're going to manage if I can't pick him up.

@mfa_lady: I cat/cow all of the time lol ugh. I usuall have good posture except in bed. Will watch this video though, especially for the lulz.
@pmrlady: Hope your constipation gets better. I can't imagine how uncomfortable that is right now.
@HappyBaker: It's slightly terrifying to think about!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@oliviaoblivia: I'm so excited to "meet" her! I hear you on the no idea what is coming thing.
pomegranate / 3577 posts
@Snowdrop: I would take that with such a huge grain of salt! I think when you put your feet up, your pelvis tilts back, etc. etc. etc. I freaked out about it until I remembered that pioneers and Queen Victoria probably didn't bounce on an exercise ball and walk with one foot on the curb and one foot off, so I figured I was probably okay to put my feet up.

@Espion: "Decidedly anti-hemorrhoid" is maybe the best thing I've heard all day.
@oliviaoblivia: Aw, I hear you, friend. Your little gal will do great. Enjoy your week with her!
@namaste: PLEASE watch the video. We just about died laughing.
persimmon / 1096 posts
@Espion: @Espion: I'm with you both too - I'm starting to get really sad for J, even though I know he'll eventually love having a sibling. It's just the two of us almost all day every day, and he's quite a mama's boy. I want to "soak up" this last holiday with him, too, but I'm so physically uncomfortable that I don't feel like I'm making things all that magical right now, haha!
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@Happygal: The GBS test is no big deal! They lightly rub a q-tip looking thing at the entrance of your vagina and over the outside of the tush, but you can't barely feel it. It's just like a swipe across the outside.
@Espion: @oliviaoblivia: @keepcalmcarrie: I feel the same way. We talk about "baby brother," but I know they have no clue what that means. Last night we were at a friend's house who has a 2 month old and Finn wanted to sit and watch him almost the whole time, but Elliot just ignored the baby to look at the dogs outside! I feel bad that they have always had to share us anyway and now they will have to grow up so fast and learn about being big boys and big brothers.
blogger / pomelo / 5361 posts
@HappyBaker: I'm SO with you. My in-laws are coming from Dec. 28-Jan. 3. Tonight, DH said we should go see a movie next week, and I said, "We have to wait until your parents are here to watch the boys." He said, "That IS next week." And then I freaked out because next week = January.
As for me, I am torn between wanting to do nothing but put my feet up and let my kids watch insane amounts of Daniel Tiger and frantically trying to throw away everything in my house, figure out how to make our guest room a nursery, get ready for Christmas, and generally go insane. I think baby boy has dropped slightly, but is definitely not super low yet. I'm encouraged that he is at least descending a bit. I need to walk a lot and help this kid decide to come out someday.

I feel like my baby has dropped enough that I could go into labor any day now. I am getting crazy pelvic bone pain and feel like in the past 8 hours, it has become too painful to even walk comfortably. I'm only 35w4, so I know it is wishful thinking but holy moly. I can't imagine going 4.5 more weeks like this.

I'm so surprised no one has actually had a baby yet!!
It has to be any day now...

@Mrs. Confetti: Ughh, sorry, friend. I can't imagine. Hope he gives you a little relief soon!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@Mrs. Blue: thank you for the reassurance! I can stop worrying about that one. I know that feeling of being torn--part of me wants to nest like mad, and another part is telling me that it's all groovy and I should relax when I can!
@Mrs. Confetti: I've had pelvic bone pain for awhile and it's not fun. My OB was kind of like, "deal with it, toots." It hurts the most when I get up out of bed. Do you have some kind of support that could help out?
@oliviaoblivia: so close! Wow. I know lots of women who have had those same feelings, but they are usually pleasantly surprised at how easy the transition has been. Especially my friend who just had another girl--her oldest daughter is all about having a sister.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@mfa_lady: Hilarious!
@Mrs. Confetti: Hope you get relief soon! This has been my life for the past three weeks and it's awful. Her head is just so low and my pelvic pain gets so bad, it stops me in my movements at time.
persimmon / 1177 posts
@pmrlady: I've been dealing with days of constipation, followed by days of, uhm... not constipation I think you're right about baby compressing things - then she moves a bit and everything changes.
@keepcalmcarrie: I know! All our babies must be waiting till after Christmas
I don't know how all you second time mamas are doing it! I get exhausted just taking care of myself, let alone a toddler!
pomelo / 5000 posts
@mfa_lady: my yoga teacher (who is a doula and midwife in training) is all about spinning babies as well! I tried one inversion off the couch when baby was still breech and had to yell for help. Too much blood to the head, too fast!
I'm trying not to focus too much on her positioning b/c I know friends whose babies have flipped right at the very end. I also started to wonder if they flip for a reason--not enough space, cord too tight, etc. I shared that thought with my OB and he said, "absolutely!" It relieved me from lunging all around and doing headstands in the pool. I am trying to sit up straight, stay symmetrical, and all that jazz b/c I'm worried about throwing something out of whack at this point--joints are feeling pretty loosey goosey!
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Happygal: I also am not worrying about the baby's position right now.
With my first she was sunny side up during labor so the OB had me try pushing tactics to get her to turn around (and give me a relief from back labor). I pushed while lying on one side, pushed lying on my back, then pushed lying on the other side. It took a few hours but she turned before I delivered.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Happygal: @MapleMoose: Yes! All this exactly. My doula is all about baby positioning, and my midwife totally laughed it off at my appointment last week. She was super respectful, and basically said that if your kid is WAY out of whack in there, there are definitely proactive steps you can take to help get him/her situated, but that the reality is that 86% of babies get themselves into the right position by the time they need to be. Which I found very encouraging!
