@oliviaoblivia: we bought some stage 1 purees today. I have been letting her suck some solid food and she seems interested. So maybe this coming week we will start. Also i cant believe your babe is already crawling! That is crazy!

@turquoisemama: @SleepyMonkey: she's insane. We're staying at my MIL's house and I put her in the pnp for her nap and she crawled to the side and decided to pull up to look at me. Lowering the crib!!
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@oliviaoblivia: what the....she crawled and then PULLED UP?! she is superbaby.
pineapple / 12793 posts
@SleepyMonkey: she's been pulling up for a while, but only when she's already sitting in my lap. This was the first time she put two and two together. L was early with this stuff, but this is crazy.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@oliviaoblivia: WHAT?! E is still a little bobblehead just trying to SIT. I mean, she can totally do it, but the balance definitely isn't 100%. I think you have some future Olympians on your hands!

I am trying to keep up, but work and two kids are exhausting! (My oldest just turned two, and he has ALL the feels.) H still hates to sleep anywhere except right next to me, and it's the only way I get any sleep at all. I'd do something crazy for 4 hours of sleep in a row...
I pump only when I'm away from H at work, so I don't really make myself crazy if he needs formula if there isn't enough frozen breastmilk. Life is stressful enough.
Hope you ladies and babies are rockin' along!

@charmed: Yeah I definitely have a higher producing boob too. I wish they were equal!
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@turquoisemama: I only pump once when I am at work too. I get crazy amounts then (most was a little over 20oz) but since I don't need the milk for the feeds the next day and it doesn't affect my supply at all I don't stress about it.
@oliviaoblivia: oh wow, you'll sure have your hands full in no time when both your girls will be on the move.
@Espion: I love your attitude! That's all
@SleepyMonkey: yay for starting solids. Hope all will go well. J still can't really hold anything yet so we're not starting yet. She doesn't really seem interested anyway.
Oh boy, we slugged with giving her an occasional bottle and now she just won't have it. She just screams and screams. The only way she takes milk from anything but the boob is by spoon feeding her... So now we'll try a bottle a day and hope she'll get back to drinking from it.

Since I'm pretty much always with B, we haven't really pushed bottles since there is no reason to. I'm also over any modesty about breastfeeding so on the rare occasion we leave the house I don't even bring a bottle anymore. That said, while I was "sleeping in" (7 am), she took a bottle this morning no problem from DH. So glad to know it is an easy option. Right now I only pump about once a week since I have a decent freezer stash. I usually end up dumping the fridge bottle I keep because we never need it.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@Espion: That sounds exhausting. I hope the days of rough sleep end sooner than later.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@oliviaoblivia: DH & I fear for the day A can stand up in her crib. It's all over then lol C will walking any day now at this rate!
@Espion: Hope sleep works in your favor soon!
This has been a house of sick people for the past few days. Everyone seems to be on the recovery except for me. I think I have the stomach flu. A was a little fussy and clingy while being sick but sleep and everything was great. I'm going back to my bed/cave now.

@oliviaoblivia: Wow yeah you have a superbaby! I think you need to prepare to be the parent of a future superhero. Hehe. All kidding aside your baby is amazing!
@SleepyMonkey: Yay starting solids!
@charmed: My boobs produce differently too! At the beginning my right one was a work horse and my left one was such a slacker! I'm actually glad you mentioned it, I felt so weird about it. Luckily they have even out it seems. I'm not sure what happened but one day my left boob finally got it's act together, I want to say around 3 months.
@Espion: *big hugs* Right there with you. Glad to hear from you!
@Pumuckl: Oh man I hope she takes the bottle soon! Sorry to hear about that. Spooning feeding sounds tough.
@namaste: Awe I hope you feel better!
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@Raindrop: she did a lot better today! No screaming AND she finished the bottle BUT it took f o r e v e r. Ah well, small progress. So maybe we can leave her with grandma and grandpa this weekend for the wedding we're attending after all.

Wow I missed a lot! Just catching up after a busy week at work!
We started solids on Sunday night and L LOVES them. We started with squash because I had some that needed to be cooked, I froze it in 1 ounce portions and last night he ate the whole ounce and wanted more! DD was never (and still isn't) a fan of food so it was fun to feed a baby that actually wants to eat! We're going to try cereal later this week and I'll probably make green beans next.
L's still spitting up a ridiculous amount but he is gaining weight well not so we are just dealing with it - I'm hoping solids might help him in that department, but we'll see!
He is now rolling like crazy and trying to crawl, he's able to get himself places just by rolling and pushing backwards which is pretty cool.
We had his baptism this weekend and he did great, and was super happy the whole day and just generally awesome!
Sleep-wise he still gets up once a night around 2:30/3am, but until recently he really needed that extra bottle for weight gain so I'm not sure if we should try to get him to stop yet? I'll probably wait till his 6 month appointment to ask.

@HappyBaker: Good update! Is it bib city for you? LO goes through it feels like a million bibs a day. He's a combo of spit up and just drooling (we think teething?).
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Raindrop: Ha we are beyond bibs, we actually keep beach towels in every room and have whoever is holding him cover their lap / the surrounding area with a beach towel. He rarely gets it on himself, its more a projectile to everything around him!
nectarine / 2079 posts
@HappyBaker: sounds like things are going great! All of this talk of solids is really making me want to start, but I am waiting until 5 months at least.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@Radish: L was born 1/5 so he is at the early end of our group! We really only started this past weekend because my in-laws were in town and I thought it would be nice for them to be there for his first experience with them, otherwise we probably would have waited a few weeks.
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@HappyBaker: so glad it's working out though.
J seems to be getting more curious about this whole eating thing so maybe we'll start her on some solids in a week or two. My main issue is that she can't sit even half steadily yet.
Her sleep seems to be getting better again though so FX that continues. We have put her back in the swaddle though since she would just not go to sleep in a sleep sack - she keeps playing with her hands and keeps pulling the pacifier out. Oh well, since she can't roll in it yet we'll deal with weaning from the swaddle when we have to.

For those of you that have started solids, how many times a day are you feeding them and in what quantity? What times and are you doing purees or blw?
We have done butternut squash and sweet potato purees which she loved. We also did pear, which wasn't as big of a hit. She likes it to be room temperature and won't eat it if its cold! So far we are only doing it once a day, about 45 mins before she nurses for bed. Not a lot. Maybe an ounce?
grapefruit / 4006 posts
Also i can't believe they are already starting solids...time is going by so quickly this time.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@SleepyMonkey: We are doing about the same - offering 1-2 ounces about an hour before bedtime / last bottle. He's liked everything so far- squash, sweet potato, banana, pear and even green beans! We just started having daycare offer oatmeal cereal in the morning but so far he hasn't wanted it at that time.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@SleepyMonkey: We haven't started yet but yes on the wow I can't believe our kids are there now. So fast!
Anyone else's LO have teeth coming in? I was surprised this week when LO grabbed my hand and shoved into his mouth and I felt something hard rub against it. Only one bottom tooth is coming out but so far LO has been quite a trooper about it! We think he has been teething for a while but now they are actually coming up.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@Raindrop: I am pretty sure B has been teething, but no idea when they will actually pop up. Lots of drool and constant chewing plus shes been using my nipple as a chew toy when she is done nursing. She clamps down throws her head back and with a fistful of boob pushes away. Then she thinks it is hilarious when I go ouch! Totally fun.
I'm no help with food, we are probably at least 3 weeks out from starting. She is making no progress in the sitting department, so who knows.
nectarine / 2079 posts
Oh also, B has started inch worming forward. She doesn't do it all the time, but she has done it really well a good number of times. Anyone else?
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@Raindrop: E got two teeth the week before she turned 4 months old. No more yet, but I think a couple more are on the way. She's been chewing like a madwoman the last week or two!
We are waiting until 6 months (next week!) to start solids. She's just started to consistently sit up unassisted (even though she still topples over sometimes), so I'm feeling good about it. To all the solid-feeding mamas: did you start with rice cereal or oatmeal, or did you go straight to fruits/veggies? I kind of don't want to fool with the rice cereal/oatmeal, but will obviously do it if it's necessary.
grapefruit / 4006 posts
@Raindrop: no teeth here yet! She is a drool machine so i keep expecting them but her gums are nice and smooth every time i check.
@HappyBaker: wow big variety! They are sooo cute when they are eating. I forgot how cute it is when they are learning how to use their mouths to chew food.
@Radish: she clamps down on my nipple when she is done and doesn't want to eat anymore. And she is doing the inch worm thing occasionally but more often she lays on her back and spins around. Every time i look away and then look back, she is pointing a different way.
@mfa_lady: we skipped oatmeal and rice cereal and went straight to fruits and veggies. I don't think its necessary with the rice/oatmeal - our last pedi said it wasn't nutritious and it just constipates them. Our new pedi said we could do oatmeal but skip the rice.
nectarine / 2242 posts
@mfa_lady: we also skipped the cereal this time, mostly because 1) I didn't have any in the house and I did have a squash and 2) He is on Nutramigen formula and it is disgusting already, I can't imagine it being mixed with cereal!
We had them offer him cereal at daycare this week and his teachers said he wanted nothing to do with it, I have a feeling its because of the formula mixed into it.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@Radish: A worms around but is a champ at getting left and right She conveniently covers a lot of space incorrectly lol
@mfa_lady: Fruits and veggies. I researched and didn't feel going straight for grains was necessary. Last night she fed herself some sweet potato while I worked on the puree.
@SleepyMonkey: I started with purees but are leaning towards BLW next week when she turns 6 mo. She impromptu started on her own last night.
pomegranate / 3921 posts
@SleepyMonkey: @HappyBaker: @namaste: Thanks, y'all! Her 6 month appointment is next week, so I was planning to ask then--but it's nice to hear here, too.
persimmon / 1313 posts
@Radish: YAY! Things are going great. Everyone is recovered from the cold thank goodness.
A is not crawling but launching herself around on her knees lol. However, she is pulling herself up to stand every chance she gets. It's terrifying lol DH didn't crawl either so now I'm concerned.
nectarine / 2079 posts
@namaste: Woohoo for pulling up to a stand! I saw a lot of crawling babies today and I forget how quick they can be.
grapefruit / 4731 posts
@Radish: wow it's already 6 months for some of us! We have a 6 month appointment for later this month.
We have the second tooth coming in! I was a little worried because I know teeth usually come in pairs so when that lonely first tooth was coming in I was wondering where the other one was?! So I'm glad to see the other one coming up too just a little later than the first one.
@namaste: Yay! Ours is doing a chest crawl (arm crawl?) but no lifting himself up on things yet. So that's impressive that she's doing that!
pomegranate / 3601 posts
@Radish: we're doing fine here. J's really close to rolling. I'm scared of the day she takes off.
She is doing fine on bottles now thankfully although I keep giving her one a day. I did have to get other bottles and teats but I can live with that (MAM anti colic bottles with MAM teats).
@namaste: I hope she'll crawl before she walks for you.
@Raindrop: Hope teething isn't too bad for you guys. We're still waiting for the first tooth to brake through.

Hey ladies. I thought it would be fun to ask some questions about how your babies are doing!
I got these questions from a doctor’s questionnaire on the internets for I think a 6 months appointment (?). There was a lot of questions! I only picked a few.
If you think this is fun... I'll do another one at 9 months.
*Communication*
1. Does your baby make high-pitched squeals?
2. If you call your baby when you are out of sight, does she look in the direction or your voice?
3. Does your baby make sounds like “da,” “ga,” “ka,” and “ba”?
*Gross Motor*
4. While your baby is on his back, does your baby lift his legs high enough to see his feet?
5. When you put your baby on the floor, does she lean on her hands while sitting?
6. If you hold both hands just to balance your baby does he support his own weight while standing?
7. Does your baby get into a crawling position by getting up on her hands and knees?
*Fine Motor*
8. Does your baby grab a toy you offer and look at it, wave it about or chew on it for about 1 minute?
9. Does your baby pick up a small toy, hold it in the center of her hand with her fingers around it?
10. Does your baby try to pick up a crumb or Cheerio by using his thumb and all of his fingers in raking motion even if he isn’t able to pick it up?
*Problem Solving*
11. Does your baby pick up a toy and put it in his mouth?
12. Does your baby pass a toy back and forth from one hand to the other?
13. Does your baby play by banging a toy up and down on the floor or table?
*Personal Social*
14. Does your baby act differently towards strangers than he does with you or other familiar people?
15. While you baby is on his back, does he put his foot in his mouth?

Here are my answers
1. Does your baby make high-pitched squeals? Haha totally! I think when he gets super excited about something. I don’t think my first ever squealed
2. If you call your baby when you are out of sight, does she look in the direction or your voice? Yes. He just started doing this.
3. Does your baby make sounds like “da,” “ga,” “ka,” and “ba”? Just Ga and he says Goo a lot too. That’s about it but he says those two a lot!
4. While your baby is on his back, does your baby lift his legs high enough to see his feet? I think so!
5. When you put your baby on the floor, does she lean on her hands while sitting? Nope.
6. If you hold both hands just to balance your baby does he support his own weight while standing? Yes.
7. Does your baby get into a crawling position by getting up on her hands and knees? No. Not even close I think.
8. Does your baby grab a toy you offer and look at it, wave it about or chew on it for about 1 minute? Yes.
9. Does your baby pick up a small toy, hold it in the center of her hand with her fingers around it? Nope.
10. Does your baby try to pick up a crumb or Cheerio by using his thumb and all of his fingers in raking motion even if he isn’t able to pick it up? Not feeding him solid foods yet.
11. Does your baby pick up a toy and put it in his mouth? He’s a pro.
12. Does your baby pass a toy back and forth from one hand to the other? No. I don’t even think he knows his hands can do that. Haha.
13. Does your baby play by banging a toy up and down on the floor or table? No. I hope he doesn’t start, I don’t think my first did this but maybe I just don’t remember.
14. Does your baby act differently towards strangers than he does with you or other familiar people? Not yet.
15. While you baby is on his back, does he put his foot in his mouth? Yes. I’m amazed he is so flexible.

@Radish: Doing ok - sleep is better, but she's still wanting to stay up after motn feeds
Still no teeth, but there is a definite bump in her gums where one is trying to come through.
She's trying to crawl - can get up on her hands and knees, but then she's not sure what to do. And she can push herself backwards
We started baby oatmeal and some pureed prunes last week - she loves it! But we feed her while we're eating, and she always is more interested in what's on our plates than her mush- not that I blame her Probably going to try some finger foods once she hits 6 months.
@namaste: pulling up seems so advanced! Hope she starts crawling for you first!
