@sweetooth: I did see that. I almost asked them to do the 3 hour for me, because I didn't believe I have as severe a problem as they initially thought. But I met with an endocrinologist last night and she thinks the Metformin I've been on is keeping my blood sugar in check, and I can't take it the entire pregnancy. So they expect it to get worse soon :(.

@MrsCB: Well, at least you're getting answers. But maybe you'll be superwoman and even if they "expect" it to get worse - you'll prove them wrong

@sweetooth: I am a November baby too My bday is Nov 6.

@MrsCB: Have you heard anything about inositol (it's a B vitamin) for treating high blood sugar? I'm taking it for something entirely different, but I've been reading up on it a lot lately and there are some studies that show good results in using it to treat GD and other blood sugar issues in pregnant women.

@FarmWifeGina: I actually just looked it up this morning because I remembered @smarties mentioned it in her recent blog. But once source said it was a category C. Metformin is category B and they told me I need to stop taking it :-S. Do you have anything saying it's safe in pregnancy?

  7. FarmWifeGina

    pear / 1571 posts

@MrsCB: https://sites.google.com/site/miscarriageresearch/supplements-and-miscarriage/d-chiro-inositol This is what I came up with after some quick googling. Where did you see that it's a category C? Everything I'm finding says that it's a good thing to take during pregnancy, although probably not in high doses. I think maybe something to do with seratonin poisoning? But you have to take a LOT for that to happen (I was reading a study where they were giving depression patients 12 g a day and having remarkable success). It's something that's widely available in foods, so I'm not sure why it would be a category C.

ETA: not questioning that you found something saying it was a category C, just not at all understanding why, from the reading I've done.

@FarmWifeGina: You know what I mispoke about it being category C, I was also looking up Chromium (which smarties mentioned also) and that is C. Sorry, too much research in one morning!. But I did read on WebMD that it is, "Not enough is known about the use of inositol during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use."

@MrsCB: Oh, ok. I have no idea how many studies have been done, but both a nutritional counselor and a naturopath said it should be ok. I've been taking it in an effort to trigger the growth of more mammary tissue since I have been blessed with a lovely condition that means I literally don't have enough tissue to produce an adequate milk supply.

My anatomy scan is in exactly 2 weeks. We already know he is a boy, but I'm still super excited to see him again!!! This week and next week are my last 2 weeks of school, so that should go by pretty fast (I hope!) and then we'll get to see little Nathan again!

Because I'm lazy, is there any way we can update the list with who is having what (I know it's on one of the other boards (maybe it's this one...I guess I should scroll up...hmm) after their anatomy scans? I know 3 of y'all know you're having boys but are still going in for the anatomy scans...right?
