Question: how much weight have you guys gained so far? I'm 16 weeks tomorrow and I've put on 10 since I found out I'm pregnant. This after a 70+ lb. loss that I worked really hard for. I'm trying not to worry, but I gained 80 lbs. with my first pregnancy, without going whole hog at all, and it's hard not to worry about it happening again. Granted, I'm eating more healthy than I did with that pregnancy, having cut out gluten and I'm trying to cut out grains entirely, but that's hard sometimes when all I want is something carby and the thought of more fruit/veggies or protein just make me feel gaggy. I also consume very little sugar. And my clothes all fit the same, except where everything is getting a little full in the abdomen area. But still, I worry. Someone make me feel better!

@FarmWifeGina: You are awesome! I seriously wouldn't worry about it, especially because you're eating well. Also, the fact that your clothes still fit except for in the abdomen is a great sign.

As for me--I was overweight to begin with, lost 11 pounds in the first 2 months, then found out yesterday that I've gained 3 pounds in the last month. So, I'm down 8 pounds total. I've not been eating perfectly, but have definitely improved since getting pregnant, so I'm happy with it. I was told to aim for a 10-20 pound weight gain.

    @FarmWifeGina: I've gained 5lbs. I'll be 16 weeks on Saturday.

I was overweight too, and I've lost 12 pounds so far. I haven't been very hungry and with having GD I eat no sugar very few carbs. I think if you're at a healthy weight, a 10 pound gain is not a huge deal at this point.

@DigAPony: @MrsCB: Yeah, I'm a big girl too- ~220 lbs. right now, a little under 210 when I got pregnant, was aiming to get down to about 180 (started out at 280). With first pregnancy, I started out at a very similar weight to what I started this one and ballooned to nearly 300 lbs. Oy. I was huge. Then I barely lost anything and got pregnant again less than 2 years later and lost 10 lbs. and only gained that much back with that pregnancy. I think that was about 270. Then I just stuck between 270 and 280 until I did some drastic stuff and started losing the 70 lbs. about 10 months ago. Now it just feels like I'm starting the roller coaster all over again, even though I'm equipped with so much more knowledge about my body and feeding it. I just felt so helpless as the weight piled on with that first pregnancy and I don't want to feel that way again. I really probably shouldn't worry because even at my heaviest, my BP and blood sugar numbers were really good, I grow and birth healthy, average-sized babies. I guess I just don't want to be the fat mom again. Granted, now I'm just your average large-framed German farm wife, lol.

@FarmWifeGina: You sound fantastic! Try not to worry about the weight!! I think it sounds like you are being proactive and eating healthy, taking care of yourself and the baby and that is all that matters! If your doing those things (and even when you are not) there is not much you can do to control the weight gain during pregnancy...your body will gain what it wants/needs to regardless of the precautions and steps you take.

@FarmWifeGina: At my 16 week appointment I had gained 6 lbs. I was shocked when she said that because according to my home scale i'm only up 3 lbs. I think i'll go with my scale because i'm wearing full clothes/boots/etc at the doctor and just a shirt and shorts at home.

As for DH's drama, he's back at work today.. it's pretty awkward but I guess my dad called him and told him to come back, they would hire him an assistant (DH's main need - he's way overworked/booked) and try and not be such a dick to him. We'll see how it goes. I was too upset to even talk with DH about it much last night but I figure it's okay since he's here now..

In other news...i'm stalking Gilt waiting for the Danzo sale to open up so I can snag my diaper bag if they have it.

@anbanan15: Thanks. Thing is, I KNOW this stuff, I say it to other women all the time. I'm a doula, as a whole, I trust the body's innate abilities to grow and birth a healthy baby. Except when it comes to me and weight. Then I'm not so sure and I need to be reminded.

I'm up around 6 lbs - got up to about 10 but I somehow lost weight in the last few weeks. I'm 17.5 weeks. I think as long as you're eating relatively well your body should know what to do!

@MrsTiz: Which Danzo are you getting? We got the Weekender the other month. I'm saving it for when baby comes, but I think it is going to be great with cloth diapers and carrying needs for 2 LO's.

Clothing definitely makes a difference and so does time of day! I try to schedule all my OB appointments around the same time of day and wear similar outfits to each appointment to get a more accurate picture of my weight gain overall. It's still off from my first thing in the morning weighing on our home scale, but at least it is more consistent for the doctors.

@FarmWifeGina: Sometimes it helps when other people say it out loud even if we already know the info ourselves

@MrsTiz: BTW, I'm not sure if it is still going on, but if you sign up for Gilt through Visa and use your Visa card for your first purchase you can save up to $50. I did that when I get my Danzo and got the weekender for $150! I had to use an old email address and open a new account but it was worth it!

ETA: It is going on until 6/30/13...google "gilt visa" and it should be the 2nd or 3rd link to come up. It is for 25% off first purchase up to a $50 savings.

@anbanan15: where do you sign up with visa at??

  24. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@MrsTiz: Click the yellow "redeem offer" button and it will take you to Gilt and sign-up from the link. You have to use an email you haven't before or it will recognize you are already a user even if you have never placed an order.

@FarmWifeGina: I think we're probably similar sizes now. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop and to stop losing weight and start gaining large amounts. Oh and I was so upset that I had to go buy new bras. I know I should expect it, but I hate seeing those large numbers/letters.

  26. FarmWifeGina

@MrsCB: Ha! Well, consider yourself lucky! I don't have the boobs to go with the rest of the curves- at my top weight and during any of my pregnancies, I've never gotten bigger than a C cup. Or maybe that's something be thankful for? I do wish I was a little more well-proportioned instead of so pear-shaped.

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@anbanan15: oooh! Thank you - I applied it and got 25% off my first purchase. Can you use paypal AND a card or does it all have to go on one thing? I have a $50 credit on my Paypal, so that would be $90 off!

  28. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@MrsTiz: I'm not sure. I think you have to use a Visa, but you if you are using PayPal with a Visa it might work? I have only ever ordered the one thing from Gilt so I'm not really sure how it all works.

@anbanan15: You can't use paypal butI was able to get it for $130 shipped! I'm so excited. I got the San Ysidro Hobo in green. Thank you for that heads up!

@MrsTiz: I LOVE that bag!! I wanted that one and DH thought it was nicer looking (design and color), but we didn't think it would be large enough with CDing...it's only slightly larger than the bag I used with DS and that was always overflowing. I think it would be perfect and gorgeous for one kid in sposies!!

@anbanan15: Did you already get your weekender in? I'm actually worried it might be TOO big. I am used to big purses but i've read that it is HUGE.

  32. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@MrsTiz: I did get it and when I first opened it up I thought it was HUGE however after thinking about it and looking at the dimensions again it's not that much bigger than my existing bag. We measured it out with a yardstick before purchasing but even then seeing it IRL just seemed huge haha.

I guess when a planner and someone who always needs to have a project to work on live together, you get this:

A fully furnished nursery at 18 weeks. Now I get to focus on the fun parts: decorating and clothes!

and some awful pictures (that looked good on my phone idk why they look so crappy on the computer!)

@MrsTiz: Your nursery looks amazing!!! You have so much time now to pick out the perfect accessories and organize everything after your shower! Are the bookshelves from Ikea? I was planning to do something similar.

@Cara M. 17: Thank you! DH built them!

The crib was DH's when he was a baby, the dressers were his from when he was growing up, he painted them white and added legs to them because they were so short, all the books were mine when I was a baby

Sooo, lets talk maternity pants. Where are we all at?

I am wearing non-maternity pants today but I think it won't be long before they don't button anymore!

@MrsTiz: I'm up 5 or 6 pounds I think. I am still wearing non maternity pants with a Be Band. Some of my pants don't need the band. I think I'm still too little for maternity pants! My maternity leggings are HUGE on me
