@Cara M. 17: too many choices. I just wanna decide on paint before we got glider shopping.

@Ash: Can you put some swatches on the wall and look at them for a few days? It might help you decide especially when you see it in the lighting of the nursery.

@Ash: LMBO! A fart in a skillet?! I have never heard that expression before- so funny!
pear / 1571 posts
@Ash: Lol, but what does that have to do with a fart in a skillet? Such a funny mental image! Cracking up over here, in between looking out the windows for the tornado- maybe my adrenaline has me thinking it's more funny than it actually is.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@FarmWifeGina: Hahahah! I have no idea! Maybe cuz a fart would be all over the place popping around... lol! I'm probably just making your mental image worse! P.S. Be safe!
pear / 1571 posts
@Ash: No worries, it was a dud. If I sound disappointed I am- I wanna see a tornado (just not up close)!

@Ash: I really like that one! I think the fabric hoops are girly but I don't think yellow is at all! I really like that one, especially the dresser. Also, a fart in a skillet... I think I have to use that at least once today, maybe i'll try it in convo with DH ahah
honeydew / 7909 posts
@MrsTiz: Bahahah! Use it as much as you can. I will probably throwing nursery ideas at you guys... so get ready. Lol! But I love them both... Love the bright blue cuz I thought I could add punches of color easily.

Just ordered a glider. Lame. It's been the one purchase that I reeeeally just haven't been excited for (along with the crib mattress...yawn). I was hoping to be able to find something at Ikea last night (that would be cheaper), but no such luck (their Poang rocker was comfy, but waaaay too reclined and deep--it was super hard to hoist myself out of). Anyway, I just went with a classic Dutailier; it isn't the prettiest thing out there, but I've sat in my friend's, and I think for breastfeeding, it'll be the most practical for me (plus, $40 coupon!).
Since I have a suuuuper slow day at work, I might try to throw a nursery board together to see what I have goin' so far! All of your nursery ideas are getting me excited!
ETA: OK, here's my (gawdawful) board. The grey is the color of the walls right now (white trim), we have the crib, glider on its way, I think I'll start staining the dresser in the next few days (that one isn't ours, it'll be close to what our finished one looks like though!), and then I've had/accumulated a lot of the other little odds and ends. We have tan carpet right now, but I bought a faux sheepskin area rug last year that we never used anywhere so I'm going to put it in the nursery.

@ms.janedoe: Super cute!! Maybe that's what I need to do!
Anybody looking at baby wearing? I see a k'tan in a size small on NBD and I think I'm gonna get it. Sounds like the girls on HB like it better than the Moby.
pear / 1571 posts
@Ash: I have a Moby and I like it for the newborn stage, but I completely understand why people would go for the K'tan instead, although I've never tried it. I'm also a huge BabyHawk mei tai fan for when they're a little older. But I'm hoping to add a Beco Butterfly II to my very small stash by the time Cricket comes, have heard lots of greats things about that one.

@Ash: We have a beco gemini, I've also been thinking about getting a ring sling for the newborn days. It can be so hard to figure these things out though without a baby. But I want it ready to go and know how to use it when I do have the baby! Maybe I just need some sort of life-like doll to practice on and see if I like slings or not, lol.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@Ash: I bought a Baby Bjorn Active carrier that DH wanted, I will probably use it as well, I really want the Maya ring sling so I'll eventually end up with that one as well.
@ms.janedoe: I love that! So fun and whimsical. Clara's dresser is my favorite The gold garland is so pretty.. how will you adjust for boy/girl, if at all?
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@MrsTiz: I'll probably change up the tassel garland (they have like, a million different color combos--maybe peaches/minty greens for a girl, and more blue/green/gold for a boy) and yellow blanket/crib skirt/accessories and stuff to go one way or the other.
@Ash: I bought a K'tan awhile back, I'm also looking at getting the Ergo and a ring sling...who knows!

I just want to crawl into a hole today.
DH just quit his job with no backup job or even opportunities. I knew he was unhappy but I thought he was just stressed out and it would pass. Nope. I found out he was quitting the same time our boss did. ggreeatt.
We just took on a car payment yesterday, too.

@Ash: we have a sleepy wrap which is the same as a moby and I love it for when they are little! YouTube video's help with the wrapping. I also have an ergo which we love and still use at 25 mo and then a wrap conversion ring sling, wrap conversion mei tai and I have used a woven wrap but don't reach for them like the others.

@MrsTiz: OH NO! Do you work? Does he have a plan at all? Do you think he'll be able to get another job easily?
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsTiz: I've been reading along today but I'm really busy getting ready for my kids' pre-k graduation tomorrow and tearing down my classroom. I just thought I'd pop in and say I'm thinking about you. That really sucks and I'm sure the timing could have been better. Does he have any ideas for what he wants to do now?!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@FarmWifeGina: I do work. We work(ed) together..for my parents. Which is going to make my family 10x more awkward now. He has no backup plan and our town is mostly fast food..he can't pay the mortgage off minimum wage. What's worse is he made more money than I did. Not a lot, but we absolutely can not afford to live off my income alone. He can't even apply for unemployment because he quit.
@anbanan15:
@lilteacherbee: thanks! He has no idea. None whatsoever. He'll get paid Thursday..soo he has 1 week to get a job before we have to go into savings, which i've been working really, REALLY hard at building up for my unpaid maternity leave. I am a wreck today. I think my pregnancy hormones just kicked in. Gahh

@ms.janedoe: I actually really like that Dutialier you picked out! Much prettier than ours which is light stain and cream cushions. Talk about yawn!

@MrsTiz: Argh, that sucks! I think I would kill my husband.
My clinic STILL hasn't called me which is my frustration for today... I'm supposed to call tomorrow if I haven't heard anything but I am fully expecting to be told that they don't know when my appointment is and my doctor hasn't firmed it up.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@MrsTiz: Oh no! Maybe you can talk to him about his decision when you guys get home tonight and talk him into staying until he has another job lined up. I'm so sorry love!
I think I'll get the k'tan (I just left with dh so I hope it's still available when we get home) and then I'll look for an ergo on nbd too.
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@MrsTiz: Ugggggh, sorry lady... Did he...not mention to you that he was going to quit today?! Have you talked to him/your parents since it happened?
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@ms.janedoe: He says it all the time but he says it like he's joking so I didn't think he meant it. My dad called him and asked him to come back but I don't know what DH said..he said "i'll tell you later". My mom is piiiisssseeed because it's 90% my dads fault and she knows they need DH and doesn't want to make our family awkward. She just keeps telling him to fix it but my dad is so stubborn.
Fingers crossed that DH comes back it's not too awkward. There really is no winning here unfortunately.

@ms.janedoe: I love the glider! I haven't seen one in gray before!!
@ash: Too funny, I've put that k'tan in my cart twice today and just can't get myself to pull the trigger!
@mrscb: How do you like the Beco Gemini? I was going to register for that to use after LO is too big for the k'tan.
@mrstiz: I am so sorry to hear that. Try to stay calm, the two of you will come up with a plan together.
pomegranate / 3160 posts
@MrsTiz: Duuuude, totally sending good thoughts your way! It sounds like it'll all work out if your dad wants him back, your DH doesn't have any other options (at this time), and your mom is on board with keeping your DH around! Keep us updated!
coconut / 8472 posts
@Cara M. 17: I tried on a few and I liked it a lot. Pretty easy to put on and comfortable. Of course, no baby to test it out with yet :). But I would like something to wear around the house, and thought the Beco might be too much, which is why I was considering a sling.

@Ash: When will you be home? I can keep it in my cart until then, it's all yours! I will get one next time
honeydew / 7909 posts
@Cara M. 17: Bahahah! Are we fighting over it? Lol! I was looking at the black one... They always have plenty on the site so I know if someone gets it, another will pop up before November. I love nbd!
ETA: I'm in no hurry to get it if you want it. I appreciate the offer!
clementine / 825 posts
@Ash: Haha the site probably thinks we are! Seriously though, I just bought the baby bjorn babysitter so I should probably take a break for a few days! All yours!
coconut / 8472 posts
@Cara M. 17: It was really adjustable, so I don't think you'd have too much of an issue. I'm 5'7 but I have a really short torso and ALL of my height is in my legs. Only thing is you'd probably want to roll up the extra in the straps. There's these little stretchy loops at the end of the straps and they're meant for you to roll the straps and then secure them with the stretchy things.
