@MrsTiz: I've stopped wearing regular pants and only do maternity now. I feel like maternity pants emphasize the bump, while regular pants just make me look fatter. Plus, my bump is growing at the top of my stomach, so basically it looks like a giant muffin top without maternity jeans.

@MrsTiz: I can still fit into all my non-maternity clothing easily, but I have been wearing maternity or leggings which are just more comfortable to me and easier. I ended up getting those maternity shorts the other week with the low waist and you cannot tell they are maternity at all so I have been wearing them in this heat (the waist band is actually hidden so they just look like a pull on style with a fake zipper area). I don't own regular shorts anyway.

I agree with @MrsCB: that maternity wear emphasizes the bump a lot more than regular clothing.

@MrsCB: You have just described what I look like, muffin top and all. Must get some maternity jeans soon, although my regular sz. 16 jeans fit perfectly fine. Except for the muffin top part.

@MrsTiz: It looks soooo freaking good! I reeeeally like the wall decals!

In regards to maternity pants, hell yes. I don't fit in any of my old pants. Now, I really only have one pair of maternity jeans and one pair of "work" maternity black pants right now, but...whatever. They're SO much more comfortable and like @MrsCB: said, they do WONDERS for making me feel better about my bump (as they make it look more "bumpish" and less...fatty and lumpy).

    @ms.janedoe: thanks!

I am totally team maternity pants. I was trying these on this morning to show him that my stretch marked thighs are just my body being a jerk because my pants still fit. Maternity leggings are the best thing that have ever happened to this belly!

My body is so bizarre right now. I've officially lost 15 pounds, and yet my boobs are bigger and I feel like my stomach is gigantic. I have no idea what could possibly be getting smaller.

@MrsCB: I know, right? With my last pregnancy where I didn't gain anything, I think the fat came off the back of my legs and my butt. My jeans were practically falling off by the time I gave birth. And I never even moved to maternity jeans, just used the rubberband trick. But this time trying figure out where 10 lbs. has gone to. I guess maybe my muffin top because I don't see changes anywhere else.

In other news, Cricket is moving a ton today and I'm quite positive that's what I'm feeling. Felt 3 good kicks (good for 16 weeks, love pats compared to 36 weeks) earlier this morning. Yay!

I have a problem.... I told DH he needs to blocl NBD from me.

I just bought the b-agile and b-safe (for DH) for $197 including shipping. *sigh*

@MrsTiz: I love your nursery! The trees are so cute and the crib is so pretty!

I've been in maternity pants for awhile... for whatever reason, my hips have exploded so my regular pants don't really fit. My mat pants are a bit big/saggy (I have zero butt, but major hips)... I would love to just live in dresses if I could!

Aaaand... I FINALLY got my anatomy scan appointment locked down, so we get to see baby on Wednesday!

I just bought some maternity capris and dresses.... but I haven't tried them on yet. I bought a couple pairs of new non-maternity pants because the beband just wasn't cutting it anymore... I always thought people would see that my zipper was down... I went up 2 sizes. And today, I put on my scrubs for work and I seriously needed a crane to get them over my booty.... So looks like it's time for new ones.

OK, question. So my mom is throwing me a shower sometime at the end of the summer (late August maybe?). It sounds like it'll be a pretty big shower (our side plus DH's side with whom I basically grew up with)--maybe 30-35 people (holy balls...).

I'm a planner so when DH and I decided last...August(?) that we would start trying for a baby after the new year, I started looking for baby deals, and buying baby gear. I've since continued to buy baby stuff--most of which I've gotten great deals on (thanks to NBD/Gilt/etc.). People keep telling me to "stop buying things because you will get so much at your shower!"

On one hand, yeah, I kind of get it, on the other...I am TERRIFIED of being a month or two out and needing to go buy EVERYTHING (and deal with the stress along with the financial burden side of it...) because people didn't buy off of the registry/we didn't get what we needed/etc. (yeah, yeah, first world problems, I know...). I also would feel awful asking for a $150 swing when I could buy it off of NBD for 65 bucks!

Hmm, I guess my "question" would be, would you back off buying your own baby stuff until after the shower, cross your fingers, and HOPE everyone buys off the registry (which, with the same crowd of people, did not really happen at our wedding) to minimize last-minute stress, or is it no big deal if I keep slowly accumulating baby stuff here and there and just finding other "less necessary" stuff to put on our registry?

@ms.janedoe: I've been hearing the same thing. But I don't see anything wrong with shopping the deals and making purchases now. I'm sure there are still things that you can add to your registry to get as gifts. But in the end, you will be prepared, and less stressed if you handle things as you like them And then you can enjoy the shower more too - because you won't be keeping tabs on the things you still need to buy!

@Ash: scrubs don't fit! Eek! I have to get my uniform for school and I don't know which size to order and I would really like to avoid reordering postpregnancy.

@ms.janedoe: I would just not put those things on your registry. Maybe lay off some and/or leave a combo of bigger and smaller things on the registry or things you might now need at first so you can still accommodate your planner side. We actually returned stuff if it wasn't what we registered for (I felt bad but it wasn't our style and we wouldn't use it). We also got a lot if gift cards to use in order to complete our registry. It all worked out.

Hi everyone! I've been a little lazy on the boards. I'm in my second trimester now and feeling AWESOME! (but I probably totally just jinxed myself now See ya nausea! Don't let the door hit ya on the way out!!!

As for the maternity clothing - I'm slowly buying a few items to help me feel better about my changing body. I realized that most of my existing clothes are pretty snug fitting, but trying to fit over my little growing belly makes me feel self-conscious and less confident. I'm in that awkward stage where I just look like I've had too many donuts.

@MrsDragon: How exciting!!! In less than a week you'll know the sex of your baby!

@MrsCB: Your 3D baby picture is adorable!!!

@MrsTiz: Your nursery turned out so great! I bet it's fun to sit in there and daydream I tried to catch up on the thread, so I may have missed it if you posted, I hope everything worked out with your husband's job.

@ms.janedoe: Super fun nursery board that you put together! I started one yesterday and it got me all excited to jump in I still think we'll wait until we find out the sex of the baby - but I'll be ready to pull the trigger!

@MrsTiz: I'll be 18 weeks on Saturday! The doc said anytime after 18 weeks is good in his books so hopefully we get to see everything we want to see!

@anbanan15: Thank you! June 12 is right!

@ms.janedoe: I think we're going to go ahead and buy what we want/need (knowing that my dad has offered to buy some of the bigger ticket items already) and whatever is left can be shower stuff -- just smaller stuff.

  19. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@ms.janedoe: I'm really similar. I'm a big planner and I like to know ahead of time if I need to be buying something or not. We weren't even going to have a shower, so DH and I started buying things.

We've already bought a ton of stuff, including some big things like a jumperoo and a swing, my parents are buying the crib and dresser, and MIL is buying the stroller and carseat. We have 3 registries, and the BBB and BRU ones are public and what we've shared with shower guests. We also have a PBK one that we haven't shared, which is where we're getting all of our furniture and some decor from. We use that registry to keep us organized and remember what we want to buy.

I think/hope that what we have on the 2 public registries is enough for people to buy us gifts from. I would say just go ahead and buy what you want to buy. There's tons of stuff still to put on the registry - safety stuff, food stuff (making, storing, snack cups, etc.), bottles, bath stuff (towels, baby tub, creams/lotions), diapers, high chairs, and on and on. BTW, most of the stuff I listed off is what we have on ours :).

@ms.janedoe: I've been buying things here and there also when I've found a great deal (coupons, zulily/gilt, NBD). I feel the same as you and I don't want to stress about what we still need to buy after my shower. I also know that realistically, we won't receive every item we register for, so I'm not doing any harm by buying a few things now that I won't need to add at all. I also agree with what @sweetooth said about keeping tabs at your shower, I would totally be doing that!

I've also thought about whether I want to "register" for some of the items we bought and mark them as purchased so that people don't ask me why I didn't register for something.

In terms of maternity clothes, I've been wearing black maternity pants when I go to work meetings because they are so much more comfortable. I haven't worn any maternity tops yet. My regular jeans fit last time I tried them, but they're getting snug. I also don't like the beband because you can tell my button is undone!

  21. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Cara M. 17: that is what we did. If we made a purchase and it was something off the registry we just marked/added it as purchased.

Anyone else still experiencing morning sickness? I thought I was feeling better, but ever since DS was in the hospital last week I've been waking up to vomit. Again I am not sure if it's all pregnancy/baby related, the timing of my thyroid meds or now added stress?! Otherwise I feel like I have slightly more energy so there is a perk with the 2nd tri!

I still don't really feel pregnant though!

  30. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@anbanan15: I just reached 15 weeks, and (knock on wood) the nausea has faded significantly. I just have to be sure to eat something pretty soon after I wake up. It does sounds like you have a few variables to consider though.

I don't feel super pregnant either - you're not alone

  31. Ash

    honeydew / 7909 posts

@anbanan15: Yep, tiiiiiiiiiiight!! I almost changed into hospital scrubs when I got to work so I'd be comfy but they started to stretch throughout the day. I normally wear a size small and I'm worried that a bigger size will be huge everywhere else. The girls at work tell me to just wear hospital scrubs to avoid buying new ones. Seems like a decent plan!

ETA: My nausea went away around 14.5-15 weeks but was replaced with indigestion in the pm.

Who else is gonna cloth diaper? What brand you thinking of using?

  32. mrsmacandcheese

    blogger / clementine / 985 posts

My nausea has been sort of coming back -- every time I eat I feel sick for a bit. It really cleared out for a few weeks but for whatever reason its making a comeback.

@Ash: We're cloth diapering! My sister sent up a garbage bag full of her CD stash (they are likely adopting the next time around so they won't need baby stuff). Apparently there's a pretty good mix of types. If we didn't get the free stuff I had it narrowed down to the all-in-two/hybrids.

  33. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@Ash: ugh! I don't know what sizes to get! I would be an XS or S for the pants normally according to the suppliers sizing, but I'm afraid a M would be huge pp! And don't even get me stared on what size tops I need to order with a bump that will be who knows how gigantic in a few months. Clueless!

We will be cloth diapering!! We did with DS exclusively from 3w-21mo. We have a sizable stash already, mostly BG, RaR, and Ragababes and then some odds and ends I needed to try or wanted for the prints Watch out! Cloth diapers can be obsessive and so addicting! If I had to restart my stash I may get 1-2 of several brands to see what I really liked and then stock up in which I felt was best. Some we tried didn't work for DS's build at all and while I love my BG and RaR's and our stash was initially just them and probably still would have been mostly them, I really wanted to try every CD I could out the more I researched them. Proceed with caution haha

  34. Turd Ferguson

    pomegranate / 3160 posts

@Ash: We are! I have a (huge) stash of BG 4.0's for whenever baby fits into them, and then for the newborn/first couple of months stage I have Green Mountain Diapers (prefolds--newborn (orange) and yellow (small)) with Thirsties Duo Wrap covers (and a few other random covers that I've gotten here and there). I also have a decent stash of cloth wipes (mostly GroVia, but a random pack of BG wipes too).

ETA: I'm sliiiightly afraid that I'll end up liking the prefolds more than the BG's, and then I'll be stuck with a giant stash of 'em...but oh well.

My recent "complaint" is suuuuper vivid dreams! I feel like I'm not getting "good" sleep at night because I can remember SO much of my dreams... Weird!

  35. Turd Ferguson

    pomegranate / 3160 posts

@anbanan15: "obsessive and addicting..." HA, you're tellin' me... I don't even have a baby yet and I'm obsessed (and seriously, what an...odd thing to be obsessed with!)! I actually have Green Mountain Diapers up right now!

    Oh how things change...

  36. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@sweetooth: glad you are feeling better! I think other factors are definitely influencing my nausea which I have a feeling is in for the long haul. I could switch my meds at night, but then I would have to take my prenatals in the AM and with DS doing so made me really ill and worse than the thyroid med ill.

@MrsDragon: I hope it stays away! With DS I had a resurge around 13-15 weeks, but I always blamed it in traveling and my motion sickness. I was really only bad with him fro
    7-8 weeks and then 13-15.

  37. anbanan15

    grapefruit / 4681 posts

@ms.janedoe: haha that was me with DS! Our originally stash was set by the 2nd tri and I am ashamed to admit how many diapers it was, we had at one point and we currently have...think triple digits at it's highest. I need to sell out some of my stash if baby is a girl to get some more cute diapers...we mostly got GN ones but still haha. As new parents we were scared
to use cloth with the umbilical stump so we waiting until it fell off, at 3w, to start, but our RaR's would have fit from birth. We are either using them or maybe doing a NB rental this time around.

Oh and if you end up not liking the BG's they are a hot item to sell!

  38. Cara M. 17

    clementine / 825 posts

@Ash: Indigestion here too! Heartburn too always at night. Tums are my friend.

@ms.janedoe: I have been having super vivid and downright weird dreams lately!

  39. MrsTiz

    cantaloupe / 6800 posts

@ms.janedoe: I hear that ALL the time. I'm making a point to only buy things that are specialty and I can't register for (Maya wrap, big A+A blankets, etc because our stores suck and no one will order online so no Amazon) My mom told me that every time I want to buy something just put the money in a jar and that way after the shower i'll have all that money saved to buy stuff.

Our shower will be mid August as well. I want to get it over with so I can buy stuff/return afterwards and not be too big. I don't do heat well so I know I will be a raging bitch come 30+ weeks in the summer, so the earlier the better!

  40. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@Ash: We're cloth diapering too :). For the newborn period we're doing covers and fitteds/prefolds. Covers are a bunch of Thirsties with some Bummis and a couple RaR plus some random ones I got really cheap at a consignment store. A bunch of them have the umbilical cut out, so we're going to use them as soon as the meconium is gone. I have a couple Thirsties fitteds, but we'll mostly use GMD fitteds as well as their pre-folds. I still need to get all the GMD stuff, plus the wetbags/pail liners.

After that, I'm not sure what we'll do. I'm slightly tempted by AIOs, but I'm not sure if we'll like the long drying time or the fact that most of them are microfiber (which I heard only lasts about a year). If we like the newborn system, then we'll probably stick with covers + an insert - maybe a trif-folded prefold during the day and a Thirsties fitted at night. I'm also interested in maybe using Flips.

For people who are CD-ing, do you tell other people? I've kind of decided I need to stop mentioning it, because I'm tired of the comments I get about it. I've had people (who are not Moms or TTC, just have friends who CD) give me advice (which drives me crazy because I'm a huge researcher), other people telling me the laundry's going to be overwhelming and they'll cause diaper rash. My parents said they'd diaper the baby in anything we want, but I know they're going to be expecting us to give it up at any moment.

I told DH not to tell anyone else and if we get diapers at our shower, we'll just return them for something else.
