Man, I'm so jealous of you guys feeling movement! I just turned 16 weeks, so I'm hoping in another couple weeks I'll feel it too.

@MrsCB: you're not alone! I'm only 16w3d and I haven't felt kicks yet either. I'm so anxious for them!

I'm super jealous of y'all who KNOW you're feeling kicks! I thiiiiink I may feel something at night when I lay down, but I'm never sure! I can't wait for that first, like, totally LEGIT, "OMG that was totally baby" movement/kick...

@Ash: I volunteered family to bring us food too if we are in the hospital on thanksgiving!

@MrsTiz: I *think* I've been feeling movement the past few days but it's so hard to tell. Always feels the same though and in the same area, so I think that's what it is!
honeydew / 7909 posts
@Cara M. 17: heck yeah! We're not going without a nice home cooked dinner!
You guys are all making me think I'm not paying attention well enough lol! Kick baby kick!
clementine / 825 posts
@Ash: I don't know about your hospital, but I can't even imagine what thanksgiving dinner at ours would look like. I actually feel the movement (or what I think is movement) when I'm not looking for it!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@Cara M. 17: same! The harder I try and focus on it or feel for it the less it happens.
Try sitting in a chair and hunch over, that's what i've been doing haha

@Cara M. 17: I used to work at the hospital I'll be delivering at and I'm actually dreading the food already Hahah! I guess I have felt little flutters but I need something more obvious! Last night, we listened on the doppler cuz I'd been sick and wanted to make sure baby was okay and I swear he/she kicked where we were listening.

@Cara M. 17: DH was born on Thanksgiving and his grandparents were bringing food to the hospital, but they hit a deer on the way there and the food ended up all in the floorboard of the car!
@MrsTiz: Last week, I thought I may have felt something when I was hunched over at work on the floor with my kids.

I've been feeling what I can only compare to a bug crawling across my skin but on the inside -- it seriously makes me feel tickly and itchy! Today I've really noticed it along with some thumps, so I think it *might* be movement... been happening on and off since 16-17 weeks or so? I had one crazy roller coaster feeling a week and a half ago.
pomelo / 5132 posts
I have only felt it once--on Sunday--and I am 18 weeks. It was a pop pop feeling, and then it felt like someone was tickling the inside of my stomach. Nothing since then yet!
pear / 1787 posts
I've been feeling kicks/movement for about a week now--I felt the first one for sure last Monday when I was exactly 18 weeks! Two nights ago my husband was able to feel. It was amazing. To me they feel like soft pokes. I've been feeling it every day now. I recommend lying down on your back and being still--that's when I feel them the most!
Also, about birthdays--I'm due Nov. 4, and my husband told me he would love it if the baby was born on his birthday, which is the 14th! I told him it was a very sweet sentiment but I do NOT want to be 10 days late.

@DigAPony: your DH and I share a birthday!
I haven't felt movement yet. I'm interested to find out if I have an anterior placenta again. With DS I couldn't feel movement until 24 weeks! I had a minor freak out a few weeks after during kick counts where I couldn't feel movements and couldn't induce them with sugary drinks/foods. They sent me in for a non-stress test and DS was moving like crazy and I was having contractions....I honestly could not feel a thing! All was fine in the end

Okay freaking out slightly! The phlebotomist just asked why my doctor was using the diagnosis code they did and if they tested for α-fetoprotein yet. She made me nervous/concerned! My midwife was just rechecking my B12 and running a CMP.
ETA: We opted out of the first tri screening so I have only had the normal first tri blood panels done. No triple or quad screening so as far as I know α-fetoprotein has not been checked and I can view my labs online and do not see it.
clementine / 825 posts
@anbanan15: Did she tell you what the diagnosis code was for? It could have just been a clerical error by your doctors office since they fill out so many in a day. I would just call your doctor once you leave the lab.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@Cara M. 17: V28.1 "screening for α-fetoprotein" which no specific screen for that has been ordered, just what I mentioned above, my monthly thyroid panels, and vit D labs. She went on to say is used in determining genetic disorders (duh! Thanks for spelling it out). I am pretty sure the code is correct though as my B12 is lower normal for US range (deficient for rest of the world) and I was upset at my last appointment because I second guessed if we should have had the NT scan done with those B12 levels and those levels in combination with my bit D and thyroid issues can cause low birth weight....but I didn't need the women to point it out to me and make a huge deal about it for 20 minutes! Now I'm even more worried and my midwife told me I was unnecessarily worrying last appointment

I'm jealous of all you ladies feeling your babies! I will be 20 weeks on Saturday and I still haven't felt her. Although, I think the ultrasound report did say "anterior" on it...so that might be the reason. Still, I can't wait to finally feel her in there.

@anbanan15: I hope you get it figured out :(. I hate when doctors/medical staff make you panic about things.
I'm very excited today because we booked our newborn photographer! And the price was great. She's going to come to our house to do a combination posed and "lifestyle" shoot. I love that we don't have to go out anywhere at the end of November and that she'll bring everything we need. Here's the one we chose - http://www.jillserranophotography.com/.

@NeekieRose: Welcome! I think you are having the first girl in this November bunch!
@MrsCB: Thanks. My next appointment is in 2 weeks so I am just going to lay low and then tell my midwife how the women made a huge stink. My anatomy scan is the day before with MFM and my midwife would likely say no need to worry unless something shows up there anyway. Booking your NB shoot is sooo exciting!

@MrsCB: Yay!! I've been thinking about this as well. The mom of one of my previous students is an amazing photographer and I've been thinking about contacting her for maternity/newborn photos!
Omg y'all, I FINALLY got some sleep last night!! I know some of you have taken Unisom for nausea but since I was taking b6 before my BFP (and just continued because I was too paranoid to stop), my nausea was never too bad. BUT I've been having horrible insomnia for the past couple of weeks. Last night I took half a Unisom tablet before bed and I slept 10 hours straight without waking up! It was glorious!!!

@lilteacherbee: OMG I dream of making it 10 hours without having to pee!

@MrsCB: haha when I woke up, I had to pee REALLY bad, but it was def worth it!

@MrsCB: Wow I love her style! Our wedding photographer was very similar to her and I LOOOOVEED her & knew she'd be my lifelong photographer..until she moved last month. AHHGG.
@lilteacherbee: I told DH I thought it was weird/lucky I hadn't started waking up to pee yet and that very night I woke up and haven't slept a night solidly since. 1am bathroom trips on the reg, yo.

@MrsTiz: Yeah, I was really happy to find her. We had another one that we absolutely loved and she refused to come to where we live. We even offered to pay an extra travel fee and she had no interest. And then no one else really measured up to how good that woman was. Until I found this one!

Our anatomy scan went really well, I think! We're having a girl. She was sucking her thumb and kicking/punching up a storm -- the tech told me my placenta is in the front so any movement I feel will be on the sides.
pear / 1571 posts
@lilteacherbee: OMG, so jealous of that 10 hours. Between peeing, my own internal clock, and kids that rise with the sun, I haven't slept 10 hours in a row in a very, very long time. Although, after being up most of Monday night with a nasty stomach bug that had me puking up everything I've ever eaten since the day I was born and attending a birth that lasted most of the day yesterday and into the early hours of this morning (I didn't get home until 6:30 AM), I will be pooped by tonight and just maybe I'll sleep good and hard.
@MrsDragon: Aw, yay! Congrats!

@MrsCB: how fun! I like the photographer's style.
@MrsDragon: congratulations!!!
I had a boring OB appointment today. BUT - I am no longer on pelvic rest (just in time for the husband's birthday this weekend - bowchickabowow) and it turns out not all male OBs are that bad. He had great eye contact and was pretty easy on the eyes Oh - also, hearing the heartbeat made my day

@MrsDragon: Oh yaaayyy!!! How exciting! Congrats! That cancels out any genetic concerns, right?

Thanks everyone!!
@MrsTiz: She could be a carrier (because I don't know if I'm a carrier) but the chances are quite slim -- and shouldn't affect her at all. I'm hoping to find out my status sometime in the future -- I think I will have to be done being pregnant/breastfeeding -- and if it turns out that I *am* a carrier we'll have to figure out if we want to have her tested or let her decide on her own. But the major risk is definitely negated!

@MrsDragon: that's good news! What is it Again if you don't mind me asking

@Ash: Get the book! I can already tell it will be a great resource and I'm sure I'll be referring to it a million times once baby is here. I have her Guide to Childbirth too, and most of her other books--I worship Ina May!

@MrsTiz: Hemophilia runs in my family, but it's carried on the X-chromosome so girls can be carriers but not affected, and boys can be affected (there are some cases of hemophiliac girls but it's really rare -- I think a carrier has to have a baby with a hemophiliac or something like that?). I have a 25% chance of being a carrier, so baby's chance of carrying is much less than that.

Congrats on a great anatomy scan & the girl announcement @MrsDragon! We are looking forward to hopefully finding out next week. I keep switching back between thinking it’s a girl vs boy and can’t wait to find out
