@Ash: Also...I just tried to look online at Target for my new size... it's no cheaper than VS for me! VS is having it's sale right now anyway

How is everyone feeling? I can't believe some of you are 20 weeks already and halfway to our due dates!
Just saw my lab results from the other day (the ones where the phlebotomist was freaking out of the diagnosis code). Looks like I have some low levels on my CMP, but I'm not sure how vital they are or just normal dips due to pregnancy. However, my B12 has dropped...I asked about injections at my last prenatal and my midwife said we will see where things are at on the sublingual tablets and she would be happy with a B12 >250 pg/ml for pregnancy. Mine is not
I haven't spoken with her yet, but my next appointment is a week from Tuesday.

@anbanan15: I'm feeling okay, no nausea anymore (!!) and feeling the baby move all.the.time, it's so crazy! I hope everything turns out well with your labs!

@anbanan15: I've feeling kind of meh. The intense exhaustion is gone, now I'm more a general tired at the end of the day. But the indigestion is killing me. I swear baby boy is scrunching all of my intestines and stomach already and it's making things uncomfortable. I hop you get things worked out with the B12 issues. What kind of effects can that have?
So after being so in love with the Sakura Bloom slings, I totally ended up getting something else on Saturday. I went into a local CD store so I could try the sling on, and was totally not impressed. For one, I think my boobs are too big for it :(. It looked kind of silly and had this really short tail on me. I also had a hard time getting it into the right position.
There was a girl working there wearing a mei tai with a 4 month old, who started talking to me about it and she totally convinced me. It was easier to put on and really comfortable. I ended up getting one from a company called Catbird, which I've never heard of before. But it's basically the same as a Babyhawk. Here's the one I got http://catbirdbaby.com/index.php/shop/mei-tai-carrier/mt-zoe.html
We also bought the rest of our CD stuff that we needed :). While at the store I got a pail liner, small wetbag for the diaper bag, hanging wetbag for downstairs changing station, some swaddlebees fitteds and some tots bots bamboozle fitteds. Oh, and a couple of Thirsties inserts that you just lay in the diaper, like you do with Flips inserts.
Then we came home and ordered the rest of our stash - some thirsties fitteds, gmd workhorses and some gmd prefolds (which I expect to mostly use as burp cloths). It was really difficult trying to figure out what amount of which diapers I wanted to get. I think I have a pretty good mix now and once we're out of the teeny tiny stage and I'll be more informed about what we like.

@anbanan15: Things are goin'. I'll be 20 weeks on Friday--nuts! I still have awful chest/back zits, which is getting SUPER old... Also, my pelvic girdle pain has kicked into HIGH gear these last few days; everything just hurts SO bad. It's hard to walk, stand, sit, lay... Hahahha. I tried a maternity belt, but didn't feel much of a difference. The only time it really feels "good" is when I'm laying with my Snoogle pillow (a freakin' awesome investment!). I'm not sure what options I really have...chiropractors kind of creep me out, I could check out massage...but pretty much everything I've read said that the only thing to "cure" it, is giving birth. Oh yeah, and it only gets worse the farther along you get. Perfect.
Otherwise, things are good! Still not sure if I've really felt movement yet, I think I have, but nothing super, "OMG that was totally it..." We go in next Monday to find out the sex. I've been trying to get in today if there's a cancellation...so far no luck. Lame.
I've put myself on a buying hold until the shower...which I think we'll be doing the 15th of August! A little early, but my mom really wanted her sister to be there (she lives in Nepal and leaves the 16th). I'm trying to figure out when to talk to my boss about maternity leave...I have a feeling it isn't going to go well. I know they're thinking of giving me 6 weeks, and then expecting me back part-time after that... Not exactly what I had in mind... I'm trying to figure out if I should just go in with a "this is what I want" plan or what...

@MrsCB: I'm jealous that you have a store like this! I'm totally a visual spatial person and it's hard for me to be confident of anything I order off the Internet that I haven't touched and seen for myself. Would love to look at a bunch of CD systems and carriers up close. When I have my childbirth classes going, I'm planning to do a bonus demo night and have all kinds of CDs and carriers and wraps and slings for everyone to look at and try because we have NOTHING of the sort in this area and I think people would love it.
@anbanan15: Doing fine and dandy! I think I got my second trimester energy boost on Wednesday and it's amazing what I've been able to get done since then! I'm still incredibly sleepy in the early afternoon, but if I go ahead and nap, the rest of the day goes so well and I've been motivated and catching up on so much stuff, it's awesome! Feeling lots of movement, a little every day. Just enjoying life here- June is the most amazing time of year up here on the Northern Plains, it's so gorgeous, this is the time of year we grin and bear through the long winter for and I'm just completely enjoying it. Going to go out and mow a couple acres of grass this afternoon and work on my tan, lol.

@MrsTiz: No nausea is fantastic!! I saw your recent bump pic and had to pause for a moment...I temporaily forgot you hadn't told people IRL that you knew the gender
Sneaky haha kidding. You look great!
@MrsCB: I'm sorry you are having indigestion already! I'm glad your energy is better overall though!
Umm I don't really want to say and am avoiding doing more research than I have unless I need to, but the only one I am focusing on is IUGR/SGA since my thyroid and vit d issues could also cause that. (It can cause neural tube defects like spina bifidea and anencephaly and yea I'm stopping there...). I'm just trying to remember that my midwife said I likely had these issues with DS, we just didn't know it and he is okay.
Sounds like a great CD stash going on! Watch out! You'll get addicted quick
I've heard of Catbird and I have a friend that has a Babyhawk and loves it. We have a custom WCMT that just came right before my BFP (it took FOREVER. Ordered in September!), but I can't wait to use it on a small babe too!
@ms.janedoe: Haha! Yes only 1 more week! Can't wait. I've never used a pregnancy belt, but a women at work is wearing a prenatal cradle. She is due in 1 month though and she wears it on the outside of her clothing (I never researched it, but this might be the proper way) and it looks awkward. Good luck with approaching your boss about maternity leave! We have a standard 6 weeks where I work and because I'm part time (variable hours, can work little or as much as I want) it's completely unpaid.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@FarmWifeGina: Great! Have fun with the grass and getting that tan on. I don't even know how to work a mower :). Ohh you will find this hilarious! We are renting a townhouse and have a small plot of grass in the front yard with no backyard. The landlord left his mower and it's one of the no-motor Amish mowers you just push with the spinning blades. Cracks me up that we have that! It literally takes under 5 mins for DH to cut it, so no need for something "fancy" haha.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@anbanan15: Same here for leave time, I'll get 6 weeks of unpaid time off..if he comes on time the week I go back to work is the week that Christmas is in, and I get 2.5 days of paid time off that week, so I figure that is a perfect week to start back on because i'll only be away from LO for 2.5 days. Now lets hope he comes on time (or a little early!)
DH will take ~1 week off depending on where in the week he's born, so if he comes on Monday, DH will go back to work the next Monday. If he comes Wednesday DH will still have to go back Monday.. 7 weeks unpaid is giving me nightmares. That is almost 2 months, ack!
pear / 1571 posts
@anbanan15: LOL! Reel mowers are fun if the blades are kept sharp and you only have a little bit of grass. We have acres and acres and we just bought a fancy zero-turn mower, so it's fun to mow now.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@MrsTiz: I hope he comes on time/early!!
DH gets better maternity leave than I do! He can have up to 12 weeks, with the first week paid (women get at least the first 6 paid there I beleive). He will probably did with DS and take 2 weeks off, the first paid may leave and the second use a week of extra vacation he buys at the beginning of each year.
My mom will probably do what she did with DS and use vacation week 3 pp or at least compress her schedule so she can help out with DS and baby.
coconut / 8472 posts
@anbanan15: Did you get any 2nd trimester blood work to screen for those things? Mine just came back last week, and they said no spina bifida.
@anbanan15:, @MrsTiz: I'm sorry about the whole six week maternity leave :(. I thought I was going to have to take my leave unpaid as well, and was going to do 8 weeks. Do you guys have any vacation time you can put towards it?
Assuming my company is able to switch me from contractor to full employee next month (which is the plan) then I'll get 8 week paid in full and 4 weeks paid at 60%, which I feel really lucky about. We have a weird vacation time policy here, where you get "unlimited" PTO. So I'm going to try to talk to my boss about getting paid the full 100% the last 4 weeks with using part vacation time and part STD. DH's been saving up most of his leave and hopes to take off most of the rest of the end of the year. Depending on if the baby's early, he may need to go back in for a week in the middle. Ideally DS will come close to his due date (and I won't be going over).
@FarmWifeGina: Yeah, it's a great little store :). One of the benefits of living outside Boston. Though it surprises me that for a such a liberal and semi crunchy city, there's really only one store. I need to see stuff too and try things on to see if I like them. I'm really glad I didn't just order something online. I probably would've kept it and then hated it while wearing it a couple times and then never used it again. Didn't hurt that the mei tai was $70 cheaper than the sling I wanted.
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@MrsCB: Nope the only PTO we get is for major holidays, but the entire company is off those days so I can't come in and work anyway and don't have the option to take it unpaid. I hadn't really thought about that though..I might ask my boss if I were to take my holiday time off unpaid, could she transfer it towards my maternity leave? I guess I could just always throw that into savings instead?
I wish we got something better.
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@MrsCB: No. Not yet. We didn't do a triple/quad screen with DS but might this time. I'll be 18 weeks at my next appointment so we will see what she suggests.

We went out to Winnipeg on the weekend (5 hour trip!) and hit up Babies R Us and IKEA -- not to buy anything yet but to scout out what we'd like for gear and the nursery, once we move in August. I'm super excited to get going on it now that I got to go window shopping!
coconut / 8472 posts
@anbanan15: Hmm, I have no idea which one they did for me, they just said it was routine bloodwork to screen for neural tube defects. It might be worth asking about :).
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@MrsCB: Thanks. My anatomy scan is at MFM so I will feel better with them looking at it as well. Btw (missed this before) I have no paid benefits with my position. Only unpaid vacation and unpaid personal days. The personal days I've already used up because of DS earlier this year.
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
Ahhhh the maternity leave thing is stressing me out too. I work at a daycare/preschool and "standard" is 6 weeks. I'm apprehensive about taking more time off because its unpaid. DH is a 2nd grade teacher and he usually doesn't work during summers because he does his pay for 12 months instead of 10. Well he's working this summer to save for baby, but I'm still a little worried!! Two teachers really do not make much money!
cantaloupe / 6800 posts
@MrsDragon: You took a 5 hour trip just to window shop!?!? I can't even get DH to go 3 hours to actual shop! Sigh

So the OB today basically told me I was on the way to an 11 pound baby...
He had the results from the MFM anatomy scan and said that the only thing to watch was that the baby is "measuring large." If you remember, this has been a huge point of contention because they office uses the very first scan at 6 weeks to date and their EDD is 11/20. A week later, I went to the ER and the lady said she is very accurate with her dating and hers put me at 11/13. EVERY ultrasound since then has had me at 11/13, but they refuse to change my date because they say the "earliest scan is the most accurate." I'd think the 7.5 week one at the ER would be more accurate than the 6 week because it was just Sooo tiny at the first one.
So basically I just laugh because its been consistent since 8 weeks. I KNOW when I ovulated and that date puts me at 11/17 which is just a few days off what the ultrasounds are saying. If they would just listen to me....
coconut / 8472 posts
@lilteacherbee: So do you think the baby's really going to be big, or they're just measuring him wrong based on your due date? I'm interested to see how big DS is when go next Monday. At our last scan he was measuring 5 days ahead. I'd like for him to grow, but not to 11 pounds ;).
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@MrsTiz: for myself, I'm going with 11/17 because that's off of ovulation and its in the middle
@MrsCB: I think that the 8 week ultrasound from the ER was right because the NT scan and anatomy scan both follow exactly with that due date. But the OB office is sticking with the first date (11/20) and since its a week off, they're freaking out that he's huge

@MrsTiz: it's our only choice! Closest cities are 4 hours one way, 5 the other.
blogger / clementine / 985 posts
@MrsTiz: Northwestern Ontario, about midway between Thunder Bay and Winnipeg. There are a few small cities between but they're basically Walmart and Canadian Tire, not a lot of baby stuff! We're ordering a lot online but I wanted to see it before we decided.

I'm sorry to hear some of you can only take 6 weeks - I'm sure you wish it was more! I will tell you that with DS I had 6 weeks and it felt like plenty of time. It was more like a vacation even though we had lots of family commitments. My situation is a little different though, DH is a stay at home dad now so I didn't have to leave him with a day care or nanny which made it easier for me, I think. I'm hoping to piece together 10-12 weeks, I should have 3-4 weeks of sick time and will use some vacation time and some unpaid. We have been saving for a year so that I could take a few weeks unpaid. But honestly, 6 weeks is totally do-able physically and emotionally. And I BF for a year.

@MrsCB: I freakin' love the carrier you posted! Hmmmm!!
It's amazing how much better I've been feeling. Nausea is gone! Yahoooooooo! I get 6 weeks paid time off (due to my short term disability) and I'm taking an additional 6 weeks of paid/unpaid depending on how much pto I'll accrue before then. :))
@ms.janedoe: Oh my gosh.... you made me feel so normal now! I had no idea there was such thing as pelvic gurdle pain and I've been thinking I'm broken!!! I'm on the hunt for a snoogle... DH is all for it!!
@FarmWifeGina: DH won't let me mow this summer and I"m totally bummed. I love hopping on the mower and getting my tan on -- it's so relaxing. Boooooooooooooooo!!
grapefruit / 4681 posts
@lilteacherbee: I'm surprised they won't change it! With DS I thought I was due 4/21 based on my cycle but my first u/s that I thought was at 16 weeks measured him at 17 weeks and calculated my due date at 4/15 so they moved it up. They said their policy was a 6+ day difference due dates got moved. DS ended up not being born until 3 days past his original due date (so 9 day late total), but yea. It always amazes me how different protocols are among offices. I'm glad you are able to silently chuckle to yourself about it!
cantaloupe / 6791 posts
@anbanan15: Yeah the OB today was already mentioning c-sections because I'm petite (5' and 130 pre pregnancy) because they think he's going to be huge. I've had moments of "OMG what if there's something wrong and he's really going to be a giant" today, but I remind myself that its been consistent at each ultrasound. It's not like he shot up 3 weeks of growth in 3 days or something.
They can't use my LMP to date because I have 40+ day cycles. I have my growth ultrasound (hey at least now I know why MFM scheduled another one in 3 weeks) and the MFM office seems to listen to patients a bit better. I wonder if they would change it if they got the records from the ER ultrasound. I specifically remember the ER ultrasound tech saying that she is usually very accurate with her dating.
pear / 1571 posts
@Ash: Mowing is fun. And DH doesn't give me any breaks just because I'm pregnant, lol, so enjoy it. Actually, I think I trained him from the beginning not expect anything different when I'm pregnant because I'm tough and I can handle it. HAHA! Big mistake! Now I wish I got babied a little more.
clementine / 825 posts
@lilteacherbee: My midwife said any ultrasounds before 8 weeks couldn't be used for accurate dating bc the baby is still so small. It sounds like the ER ultrasound is more accurate. I wouldn't worry too much.
@MrsDragon: Wow 5 hours?! I hope you can subscribe to amazon mom for anything you might need on a regular basis!
@MrsTiz: Yay for your diaper bag shipping! I hope it gets there quickly!
@FarmWifeGina: It's never too late to ask for a little babying
@MrsCB: Sounds like you have a great stash going!
@anbanan15: I hope they get everything straightened out and can give you some answers regarding your blood work.
I will be taking 12 weeks but only 3 of them will be paid time, plus any time I am in the hospital will be paid sick time. The rest will be unpaid FMLA unfortunately.

@FarmWifeGina: I tried that! I told him I'm not an invalid but he won't listen. I think he's more cautious because of our miscarriage. But I still try to mow!

I attempted to use the hair-tie as a fastener on my shorts this morning. I believe I showed my undies to several strangers. I guess I need to zip up more or wear longer shirts. I think I'm still in denial about altering my wardrobe. The past two days I look down and it hardly feels like I'm showing anymore. Pregnancy is weird.

@Cara M. 17: Ha, yeah, old habits die hard. I put my foot down at helping cut and carry firewood at about 7-8 months, but other than that, he's much too busy and stressed-out to do any babying. I hold down the fort.

OK, catch-up time...
@FarmWifeGina: OK, I just want to say that you sound like a total badass. Farm...stuff, mowing ACRES of grass, being tough... Well done, woman! Happy to hear that things are going well!!!
@anbanan15: Total confession, I don't know anything at all about some of your lab results/issues you posted about, but I am 100% hoping everything goes just fine. It seems super promising that your midwife said you probably had it last time at all was good!!! Baahaha, the pregnancy cradle OUTSIDE of clothing is a new one...
@MrsTiz: Isn't figuring out maternity leave fun...blah. Oooh, totally gonna need a picture of your bag once you get it! I'm still waiting on my Ergo to ship from Gilt... I should go check up on the status of that one!
@MrsCB: Dude, that's awesome about your maternity leave! Not gonna lie, I'm totally jealous! Maaaan, your post about the slings/carriers kind of bummed me out; I've been droooooling over a Sakura Bloom sling...
@MrsDragon: 5 hour road trip--you're my hero...especially going to Babies R Us and Ikea. My DH and I joke that we can never make it out of Ikea without getting into a fight...hahahaah, it's SO overwhelming! Hopefully you got some good ideas! I totally hear you on wanting to see something before you order it...
@lilteacherbee: Ugh, doctors kind of blow with the whole "date" thing. I had my chart with me and like you, knew EXACTLY when I O'ed...they still weren't having it. So frustrating!
@shellio: That's awesome that your DH stays at home! Your situation sounds kind of like what mine will end up being--some unpaid, some paid, etc.
@Ash: OMG dude, isn't it freaking miserable? I posted a thread about it yesterday and got a lot of good advice--hopefully it will help you too! I'm feeling better today, I think I narrowed down my "trigger points" that set it off and make it worse (squatting, crouching, getting out of bed with knees apart). If I avoid those, it usually isn't bad! But yeah, the Snoogle is life-changing. SO great.
@sweetooth: Baahahah, fashion at its finest. I need to officially go buy more maternity stuff... I have 2 pairs of "work pants," and they're both pretty hideous (like, straight out of 1992 or something...).
coconut / 8472 posts
@ms.janedoe: You're way smaller than me, the sling might work great for you. I seriously think my boobs were the problem :-/. But then I also didn't like the uneven distribution of weight, and they told me that one of your arms is kinda useless in it. So that sort of defeats part of the point of wanting to wear the sling.
I totally sympathize on the pelvic girdle pain. A couple years ago I sprained my sacroiliac joint and it was one of the most painful things ever. It did help when DH massaged it, which doesn't totally make sense since it's a joint, but whatever.
honeydew / 7909 posts
@ms.janedoe: Looks like it's time to look up the thread you started yesterday. I was at work for over 13 hours yesterday so I didn't get to check the boards much. I go to the chiropractor and it helps but I can't go every day so I need to come up with something - I just got home from my appt actually. I keep saying I'm gonna order the snoogle... but I really just need to do it!!
@sweetooth: I gave up on the hairtie trick about a month ago. I felt like everyone would see my underwear if I wasn't always pulling my shirt down. I bought the beband too and that was nice for a while but then I had the same problem with that so I switched to skirts and maternity capris (where have they been all my life!!). Life is much better when you're not worrying about flashing everyone!!
