@Umberto: I have a 5 seater now, and the plan has been to go to a 7 seater once DD enters first grade in two years... even before #3 was in he works. OH is 6'5" and fitting him comfortably with two kids is challenging already. It just wasn't in the budget to upgrade before daycare got cheaper.
grape / 75 posts
@Ms. RV: That makes sense! It's tricky trying to navigate car stuff with multiple children. DH and I are tall too (though not 6'5!!), so DD will have to go forward facing behind the driver seat in my hatchback when new baby comes, we just can't drive comfortably with them both rear facing. She'll be over 3 years by then, but it was still a bit sooner than I intended to FF. There's always mum guilt for some reason or another š¤·

@Ms. RV: Glad you found a way to make it work without having to upgrade before you were ready!
@Umberto: You def shouldnāt feel guilty for putting a 3 yo in a front facing seat! If it makes you feel any better guideline in the US say rear facing only until age 2 and only if theyāre still within the height and weight limits. And Iām not sure I know many people who even made it that long.
grape / 75 posts
@karenbme: Aw thanks for saying that! Australia's law is woefully behind the rest of the world, it's only 6 months here!! I only know one or two other mums who still rear face at this age, most people flip 12-18 months unfortunately.
pear / 1930 posts
@Umberto: We turned DD FF shortly after she turned 3 because she got car sick RF. I wanted to make it to 4 so I hear you on the mom guilt.
@karenbme: I think some states actually have laws that say you have to be RF until 2!

@Umberto: thanks i think the impact of SCH is hard to predict. my doc said that they look for them to resolve by the second trimester or else there can be a risk of preterm labor, but the doc that did my NT scan said they often don't see them resolve until 16-20 weeks. so, i go back for another scan at 16 weeks and i guess we'll see then. how is your nausea lately--and, did you learn anything from your scan?!
@karenbme: did you get to tell a lot of people this weekend? we started telling our families and it went better than i expected. now i just have to tell work
persimmon / 1064 posts
@Umberto: DS1 RF until he was 3.5, but DS2 we had to switch to FF sooner due to vehicle logistics. He was 2.5, so I felt ok about it, but I still wished we could have RF longer! Good luck at your scan today!
We are shopping for a new vehicle too...we currently have a Yukon XL which would technically fit us allāexcept there is only one tether in the 3rd row (so we can only put 1 FF seat back there) and there isnāt enough space to put a RF seat back there. So frustrating. Sooo we are shopping for a newer model, which has more tethers in the 3rd row! We also have 2nd row captains chairs and decided weād prefer a bench seat. We have been casually shopping, just stinks because everything is so expensive!
@karenbme: how was it telling your family over the weekend?! Exciting!
@nwm: glad telling people is going ok. GL with work!
clementine / 830 posts
@bees_knees: thanks! how are you feeling? just curious why you decided you'd prefer a bench seat to captain's chairs? we have a sedan right now so are definitely looking to upgrade, and i was thinking captains chairs might make access to the third row a little easier.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@nwm: I def still have loads of nausea, but itās improving! Iām 13 weeks today so fingers crossed it keeps getting better!
I think it depends on what vehicle you get. For us, we figured Captains Chairs would make 3rd row access easier too, but then we ended up with a RF seat in each captain chair...eventually with one FF/one RF seat in each. Itād be more ideal for us to have two seats side by side on a bench in the middle. Weād still be able to access the third row by flipping up the outer portion of the bench seat (most of the models we look at tumble completely forward, so itās easy to get to the third row) We also like the option of being able to carry an additional passenger, since we will be a family of 6! I think the Captains Chairs would be easier once the kiddos are older/out of car seats, but for now we prefer a bench. We are actually looking at the new Ford Expeditions...they are unique because you can have a car seat in the middle row AND still move it forward to access the third row! CSFTL (or maybe the Car Seat Lady?) did a good review on it. But of course, weād need a 2018 or newer model, and $$$$
Sorry if that was all over the place, Iām on my phone!

@nwm: @bees_knees: I told a few peopleāmy brother, an aunt and uncle, a couple cousins, and my dad told some family friends. Iām trying to get excited, but Iām still pretty uncomfortable talking about it. I donāt know if/when itās going to change, but doing this stuff is bringing up a lot of grief for me for the babies weāve lost. I feel bad because I want to be just excited, but Iām not there yet.
Telling work is a whole other thing for me. My boss knows already, but I just hired a new right hand person and am really worried about what happens when I tell her. Weāve still got 6 months, so itās not like Iāll be out immediately, but I donāt want to overwhelm her.
persimmon / 1064 posts
@karenbme: I think itās totally normal to have conflicting feelings. And itās ok to be excited for this baby while still grieving the babies you lostāeven if those are two opposite feelings. Work will be fine, theyāll figure it out regardless!
clementine / 830 posts
@karenbme: that is very understandable i'm a big believer in taking all the time you need to share the news, or not...whatever feels right to you!
meanwhile, hopefully your colleague can/should view this as an opportunity to shine in your absence! i know all my colleagues will get it together and hopefully supportive, but i do have a new case i just joined where i think the timing may turn out to be really, really bad, so i actually think i need to tell them soon just so they can replace me on the case if needed. which i hope they don't do because it's a cool case and i want to work on it
@bees_knees: so glad it's at least improving!! that is very helpful perspective, thank you. i do worry as they got older also the kids would fight over the captains chairs? i have also been reading car seat lady reviews religiously lol. right now i kind of have my heart set on a VW atlas (which seems to have the same middle row feature!) but DH is really unconvinced. it's also a lot bigger than i'm used to driving so i'm a little nervous about that. i really don't care much for driving at the end of the day!

@nwm: The possibility of pre-term labour sounds a bit nerve wracking, I hope yours don't cause any big dramas for you!
My hyperemesis is a mixed bag this week, I've had a lot less nausea (as long as I take my meds), but I've had a bad cold and cough, and unfortunately the coughing has made me vomit quite a few times! But I'm ok with that, it's nice to just not feel so nauseous 24/7
@karenbme: I understand a little feeling uncomfortable about talking about it, prior to this I had a miscarriage at 9 weeks. This pregnancy had me pretty reluctant to share the news, even after the 'safe zone' of second trimester. I can only imagine how you might feel after multiple losses. You (general you, not you specifically) don't mean to be a downer, but you have to protect your heart too, in case it happens again.
As for me, anatomy scan went well and we're expecting a girl! I'm quietly pleased, I was hoping for a second girl

@Umberto: Congratulations on your second girl! And thanks for the solidarity
@nwm: Thanks. I really hope my colleague feels that way when I tell her. Itās literally her second week on the job, though, so Iām hoping to hold out to 16 weeks, when sheāll have been with us for a month. She seems to be taking opportunities when I present them, so thatās a good sign. Fingers crossed you get to stay on the case you started on. I know nothing about how legal teams are structured, but it seems like you should be able to as long as itās a team of people.

Does anyone have recommendations for maternity work pants? My loosest suit pants left a little button shaped bruise on my belly yesterday. I've got dresses that still work, but prefer pants for work so any suggestions (that I can buy online, there is very little maternity wear in stores around here) would be appreciated!

@karenbme: in my pre-SAHM life I wore scrubs, so I donāt have any recs...but Iāll bump this for you and hope someone else is more helpful!

@karenbme: I wear jeans and convertible pants for work, so I don't have any specific recommendations but the Secret Belly panel from Motherhood is the only one I ever truly loved.

@bees_knees: @Ms. RV: Thanks, ladies.
We had some drama last night. I started gushing blood just after 6. For about 5 minutes it was heavy enough that I felt like I couldnāt get off the toilet, and I was sure the pregnancy was over. We live close to the ER so we were able to get there quickly and they saw me right away. Thankfully, baby was active with good heart tones on the ultrasound and my cervix was closed, but they did see a large SCH. The doctor on call from my practice decided she wanted to keep me overnight because of the amount of bleeding and the fact that Iām in my second trimester. I had minimal bleeding overnight, though, so Iām waiting on discharge paperwork now. Looks like Iām joining @nwm: on pelvic rest/what theyāre calling modified bed rest. Basically I can still work but have been told to lay very low with only prenatal yoga and walking allowed in terms of exercise and to avoid stressful situations, which doesnāt seem possible since this scenario is just about the most stressful situation I can imagine.

@karenbme: Oh no! Iām so sorry. Thatās terrifying. Iām glad theyāre discharging you, but what a stressful and scary situation.
clementine / 830 posts
@karenbme: ugh, so sorry to hear that!!! Very relieved babe seems to be doing great But im really sorry youāre dealing with so much stress and drama! Do they think this sch could have been causing your bleeding before?

@LemonJack: @rattles: @nwm: Thanks, itās been a crazy 24 hours, but weāre home now, and Iāll be marathoning Netflix/napping for the rest of the day.
@nwm: They donāt think itās related to the other bleeding. Iāve had three ultrasounds since then, and they didnāt see any blood in my uterus with any of those. Itās possible there was something tiny, but last night there was a LOT of blood in my uterus. Like enough blood that the resident made a face. Iām trying not to think that theyāre related though because the prognosis for repeat hemorrhage is worse than if itās a one time thing.

@karenbme: Oh wow, I'm so glad you and baby are ok! That would have been really frightening!
Has anyone ever had painful braxton hicks? I had squillions of BH with DD but while they could be uncomfortable, I would definitely not describe them as 'painful'. This morning I had some bad gas/poo pain (normal for me, thanks to zofran), which started up some BH that hurt like bad period cramps. They eased when I put my feet up and had a big drink.
I know the standard answer is 'call your OB and ask', I'm just curious if anyone else found BH painful in the past?

@Umberto: I have had some painful Braxton Hicks in the past, but I think I was beyond 30 weeks when they started. Take it easy, mama!
Just popping in to say it is 100% most definitely a girl. Four girls!!!!!

@karenbme: oh my gosh I bet that was so scary! Is the bleeding gone now? Hope you had a lazy rest of your weekend!
@Umberto: my BH have never been painful. Noticeable, but not painful.

@karenbme: that makes sense--obviously the bleeding was totally different in character so no reason to think they're related. when i went down a research rabbit hole about SCH's a few weeks ago, it also seemed like prognosis was actually better if they crop up later. many fx for you that this was just an isolated incident and that it's already shrinking itself!
@Umberto: ugh, sorry you're already experiencing pain! that blows. did your OB tell you anything useful? i think i recall hearing that they can sometimes be related to/worse because of dehydration?
@Beebeeholiday: congrats on your fourth girl!! are the big sisters all excited? so cute! can't believe i'm the only boy mom on here so far.
when i asked DS if he would like a little brother, he said "no, i still like DD" HA!

@nwm: haha thatās adorable!
I had my 14 week appt today...my OB is out of town so I saw an LPN in the same office who hardly ever sees OB patients. She, of course, couldnāt find the HB with the Doppler š¤¦āāļø So I got another ultrasound. Except it wasnāt even a fun US because she couldnāt get the orientation right so I didnāt get to see hardly any of Baby 𤣠oh well! Everything looks good, I feel like this pregnancy is going really quickly! Like it dawned on me that Iām actually already in my 2nd trimester...haha. Iām still not in any maternity clothes but Iād probably look less fat and more pregnant if I started wearing them.
We actually posted our house FSBO on a whim and got a full price offer last week. Unfortunately we live in a tiny town and there arenāt currently any houses on the market that we want to buy...sooo we are in limbo deciding what we want to do about that! I feel like I should be more stressed about it but Iām just...not š¤·āāļø Hopefully it all works out ok!

@bees_knees: I sold my house and built a new one during my last pregnancy. We moved 7 weeks post partum. It isn't for the faint of heart!!!
persimmon / 1064 posts
@Ms. RV: yep we sold our house and moved 500 miles when I was 7 mo pregnant with DS2. I swore never again... 𤣠Weāve talked about building but it sounds like a nightmare right now, and we canāt afford to build our ādream homeā so I think we might nix that idea. We have been wanting to buy an investment property to use as a rental, so worst case scenario we buy one, live in it (cramped!) for awhile until something else opens up! My parent also live close and theyāve offered to let us stay there too! So at least we know we wonāt be homeless
I think moving before the baby comes is much more ideal than after, though! 7 weeks PP must have been rough!
clementine / 830 posts
@bees_knees: wow that's exciting! why did you decide to list--are you looking for more space?
pear / 1930 posts
@bees_knees: That is good that you wouldn't be homeless. That's the scary part especially with so many LOs. You wouldn't to be cramped in a hotel with six people!
We didn't bring DS home until 8 weeks so only the physical part sucked. Actually, I could have brought him home a day sooner but I told the doctor I just moved and his crib wasn't assembled and I had no idea where the pack n play was so they let him stay another night. Not my best parenting moment
Moving just sucks in general!
