@jholler25: I've been looking into this but I've read alot about Castor Oil possibly causing LO to pass Meconium in the womb. I'm to chicken to try it.
cantaloupe / 6610 posts
@Mrs.B: Oooooh, I didn't know this!
@Running Elley: Probably disgusting. Because I think you have to be at the point of miserable and ready to die in order to drink it? That's what the google search kind of seemed like. Maybe you could hold your nose?
I also saw to mix it with ice cream, but if it's awful, let's not drag it out, people. I'd just shoot it and get on with things...
coconut / 8681 posts
@jholler25: Ewwwwwww. I wouldn't want to mix it with ice cream because then I'd never be able to eat ice cream again haha. Which may actually be a good diet tactic for post baby body... jk

@jholler25: I love how you *know* we're crazy so you pop in here with the most insane labor inducing suggestion...i'm skeptical now but I'm all over it come 39w, girl. You know it'll be crunch time by then, baby! I hope your LO comes a bit early too but even if not, i'd get into these inducing things because then you'll be an AWESOME candidate for your induction (on the 7th of Dec?). By the way: miss you from TTC boards...come visit us here-OFTEN!
@Running Elley: If it could turn me off from icecream forever, I would consider that much more of a feat than it causing labor!
Ok so, if you want to know what makes you a good candidate for a successful induction (aka one that doesn't end in c-sec), then check out the Bishop score guide. My OB said she uses this to ensure she is not ever inducing anyone too early.
I found this one online; I'm assuming it's the same one or similar to the one she had on her clip board today:

There's also an app for it if you want lurking out there somewhere; I saw it a ways back

ooh - thought of another question I need to ask about - TRAVEL.
Are you guys all staying pretty close to home now?
We were thinking about heading about 2 hours north this weekend for a little getaway, but not sure if that's OK??
also have a bday party labor day weekend on Long Island for my good friend's son, but it's FOUR + hours away, so I don't think I'll be going to that, at 38 weeks too.

@hellobeeboston: we're heading to a wedding in Philly this weekend, which is about 2 hours away for us, and my doctor was fine with it. I agree though, I would not be making a 4 hour trip!
squash / 13764 posts
@TurtleDoves: @Running Elley: Thanks ladies just had some chicken soup!
bananas / 9357 posts
@hellobeeboston: 4 hours would be a bit too far for me. 2 doesn't seem bad, but we're not planning on anymore out of town trips. Another trip to the coast does sound appealing though with it still being in the 90s here.
bananas / 9357 posts
I'm just curious, but why do so many of you want to be induced at 39 weeks?
pomegranate / 3917 posts
lol @jholler25: LOVE the pop in!
I was the wacko at birthing class last night rhyming off all the possible labour inducing things, all of the women like a month behind us timewise thinkin' I'm a crazy lady.....oh they can just wait! I may have bought three pineapples today!
How much do pineapples cost where you're all at? haha RANDOM, they are $1.77 each here.
@Running Elley: Sounds like great progress, woo!
@TurtleDoves: Yay Membrane Sweep in 7 days!
@hilsy85: Still good news at your appt! Lots of time! Hope you are feeling better soon!!!
Where does one buy castor oil, is it funny I have no idea what it is? Is it bad I picture like....car oil? Tell me it's not car oil? LOL.
@hellobeeboston: I won't travel at all now, I would probably go an hour or two away if needed, but not much more then that I don't think?
Ok, appt "stats":
Appointment date/time: Was today at 1:45pm. I go again next Thursday Oct 4th at 10am.
How far along: 37w+3d
Internal? Yes, 1st one!
1cm dilated
30% Effaced
(cool!)
Questions for doctor:
Q-After she told me I tested positive for Group B strep, I just asked the basic questions of "now what".
A-If water breaks, get to hospital asap was the most important part. Will receive penicillin via IV every four hours throughout labour. If there is any bleeding, any water break or any concern just get to L&D. Won't likely get sent home with positive result whereas a negative might, not worth the risk to baby.
Q-Heart racing at night (happened 4x now, 10-15 seconds my heart races/hurts pumping really hard and fast
A-Heart palpitations common during preg, bring it up if they continue after delivery.
Q-When to go to hospital?
A- 5-1-1 (contractions 5 mins apart for 1 minute or more for an hour) OR if water breaks, asap!
Q- When will medical induction be considered?
A-Anywhere between 41 and 41+3 (so Oct 20 to Oct 23) but no sooner, and no later.
Q-Anything to bring to hospital beyond what we see on lists online, magazines, etc, things you want me to bring?
A-Pillows, but leave them in car until baby arrived for comfort after, use hospital pillows to get sweaty and gooey from labour, lol. Popsicles/freezies in marked ziploc baggie for freezer.
Q-I have been measuring "behind" since 30w, but with weight gain of 50lbs over the pregnancy, what's the deal?
A-Tall, long torso, anything + or - two off of where we're at is ok.
Q-Early labour, and active labour, will I feel baby movement, if not, should I be concerned?
A-Depends on baby, should be able to "get" her to move, but typically will be less movement than usual as she preps for labour too. Some are active throughout, some are still, go with your gut if concerned and go to L&D if haven't already!
Q-Gas, is it still used (talked about it in class last night) thought it was a "back in the day" thing. I have reacted badly to it in the past for surgery, but don't react to the other type, will that be an option when in labour, when is gas used in labour?
A-Most commonly used in transition stage to take edge off. Stuff that is better for me/I won't get sick on will not be available, so self-regulate carefully to not get sick if it is needed.
Ok, well that's likely a novel......sorry ladies
PS she also told me she is OFF on our EDD, her sons Christening!! So told me who is covering her, odds of going on EDD, etc! She said she was surprised I was 1cm, but didn't lead on to any early or late thoughts, I'm still ok hangin' in there....! We'll see what the next few weeks bring

@mrskc: I definitely don't want to be induced at all! If I have to, it will be in that 41+week range my doc is advising.
clementine / 961 posts
@mrskc: I've listed my reasons before but I am just concerned about not getting ahold of my MIL who is the only person near us that can watch DS while I'm in labor and during our hospital stay. She doesn't use a cell phone so the possibility of not getting ahold of her is pretty high.
coconut / 8681 posts
@mrskc: Honestly, my reasons are completely selfish. I’m completely over being pregnant and I’m ready to have the baby here. I have had the worst anxiety in the past few weeks….it just feels like we’re SO close and I’m terrified that something bad is going to happen. The only way I’ll have peace of mind is for LO to be out where I can see that he’s okay. I know that at/after 37 weeks he’s fully developed and I know that at 39 weeks he’s basically just hanging out waiting so I don’t see any problem with inducing at 39 weeks (other than the fact that inductions make other medical interventions more common).

@hellobeeboston: We took a trip from NYC to Philly this past weekend, but that was our last trip til the baby is here. We're planning on soaking in the last few weekends that it is just the 2 of us. I'd be a little nervous to go 4 hours away.
@mrskc: While it'd be nice to go early, I'm just planning on taking one day at a time. I've been blessed with an easy, comfortable pregnancy that I wished for for over a year, and I want to enjoy every second of it. Also, the baby is a lot easier to take care of on the inside. I love feeling him or her tumble around in there, and i love that for now, he or she is all mine. On the outside, heshe has several loving and very enthusiastic family members (first grandchild on both sides!) waiting to get their hands on him/her. For me, if I focus on getting this baby out early, I'll only get stressed out and won't be able to enjoy the last few days of my "old" life. I'm prepared to just believe the baby will just come when he or she is ready.
coconut / 8475 posts
@mrskc: I don't know if that Q was for me to answer because I'll be induced at 39&6 but I'll answer: 1. I am so miserable with the end of this pregnancy and I'm selfish buuuut something's that encourage me: my baby has always been ahead of his developmental milestones and size (95th% since his first u/s) and my doctor told me she would not allow me to be induced unless I was a very good candidate for it (to avoid csection) annnnd another last thing is honestly because I know I'll be very sad to go over and anxiety will hit (because i almost MCed before) so I'd rather be one night under and get him here than 1 day over and enlongate things. The induction will take so long I will probably be giving birth on my dd because we start induction the *night* before.
I'm not saying theyre good reasons:) but they are my reasons:) and I hope all goes well fx!
clementine / 961 posts
@mrskc: Like @TurtleDoves: My OB will only schedule an induction if I have a favorable Bishop score.
bananas / 9357 posts
Thanks ladies for your honest answers. I can understand the fear of losing your baby at the end. I've miscarried myself and still worry everyday. You all were just making me feel anxious with all your induction talk. I'm excited to meet my baby but just trying to mentally prepare that he might not come until November.

So... Uneventful appointment!
Had the strep b test, but that was it! No internal, she said that last time but I think she was just referring to the strep test.
She said she doesn't start checking my cervix until 38 weeks because I am still preterm... Makes sense I guess. So I will just have to be patient!
Baby is head down still and he's growin! Gained 4 lbs this time - which brings me to about 25ish overall for weight gain.
And I booked all of my weekly appointments up until my due date! Woohoo!

Baby Story has been on less than 5 mins, I am bawling. Sister carrying (and about to deliver) twins for her sister, u-n-r-e-a-l. Just thinking about tough days we have and then you think of how selfless this woman is to do that for her sister, incredible!
I am so, so sore today, not sure if it was from exam yesterday or on my feet too much/did too much. So uncomfortable.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@mrskc: My doctor and I agreed to a 39 week induction due to my spikes in blood pressure. She said that the baby is full term and that with the randomness of my blood pressure she doesn't want to risk distress to the baby that this can cause. I agreed.
bananas / 9357 posts
@jessiejo17: did you get a date set for your induction? Definitely better to be safe with your blood pressure issues.
@hellobeeboston: is the strep test done like a Pap smear?
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: my strep test was not nearly as deep as a pap--I barely felt the swab, whereas a pap is always a bit uncomfortable. I am also prepared for baby to come when he is ready--I just really hope that's not TOO late.
@hellobeeboston: maybe that's a good thing, now you don't have to worry about getting caught up in "I'm this much dilated/effaced! what does it MEAN (answer: probably not much, lol). isn't it weird planning out your remaining appointments? It makes it seem like time is flying by!
@Beebug: i caught the beginning of that episode this morning as well! So amazing that her sister did that for them.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@mrskc: hey - the strep B was super easy -- barely felt it - not like a pap at all, no 'duck lips' and she just swabbed really fast and it was over!
honeydew / 7235 posts
@hilsy85: very true... i was already wondering how dilated/effaced i 'might' be and what that would mean... better that I just have to wait & not know anything!
ps, meant to ask - is your skin still bad? mine has been miraculously clear for the past month or two - I didn't even notice it until my husband brought it up! So weird! it was so bad in the beginning!
squash / 13764 posts
@hellobeeboston: I noticed that my face started clearing up about a month ago (funny enough, that's when I stopped using any sort of treatment on it--I just got really fed up and felt like nothing was working anyway). However, my chest was really broken out until this past weekend (so yucky) and now that's clear as well. I'm not holding my breath though--throughout the pregnancy it's been up and down with my skin, so I'm anticipating at least a few more breakouts before baby comes! Glad yours is cleared up. That has seriously been the worst pregnancy side effect for me.
pomegranate / 3917 posts
My skin has been great lately! Face, and I did have bad bacne throughout the pregnancy that has also pretty much gone away!
Last night my neighbour texted and asked about my appt (we're close!) and I told her the "stats" two seconds later I get a text from her hubby totally panicked and asking if he wanted us to come over and get our dog, when we were going to the hospital, etc! I guess with no kids yet anything with the word "dilated" you probably think labour (I know I definitely would have thought that pre-preggo!) and so they were ready to help us, so funny, and sweet!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@mrskc: Yes I'm scheduled for Monday the 1st, I'll be 39 W 2D! So as long as everything looks good at my appointment tomorrow we plan on moving forward with that date!
coconut / 8681 posts
@mrskc: The strep B was REALLY easy....not even uncomfortable (except for the doctor having a swab near your bum :)).
coconut / 8475 posts
@mrskc: don't let us make you anxious. Everyone's pregnancy is unique and different so obviously so is the day you'll go into labor. The only thing in common is that it'll be an amazing day for all of us!
@Beebug: Lol,awesome neighbors!

Heading to my appointment now... wish me luck that she's progressing along, but still not quite ready to get here. I have an exam tonight and a presentation - but it's my last night of class. Just want to make it through tonight and I'll be good.
Will check in afterwards!!!
bananas / 9357 posts
@hellobeeboston: My skin improved a lot over the last couple of months. Then a few weeks ago I broke out again on my chin, but still not as bad as it was in the beginning. It seems to be clearing up again.
@jessiejo17: So exciting we're going to have our first Oct baby on Monday! Keep us updated.
@CarrieLouWho: Good luck with your appt.
Strep B test definitely was much easier than a Pap. I start getting internal checks at my next appt. which is next Tuesday (36w5d). The nurse practitioner told me to just focus on a point and breath in through the nose and out the mouth during the internal to make it more comfortable. Going to discuss my birth plan with the doc. We decided to hire a doula and I'll be meeting with her on Monday night to go over my birth plan. I'm sure she'll be able to give me tips when talking to my doc next Tuesday.
coconut / 8681 posts
@mrskc: I think meeting with your doula will definitely be helpful How exciting! I think that having a doula would really take some pressure off. My internal check really wasn't bad at all! WAY more comfortable than the pap.
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: we're also using a doula! It makes me feel much more confident about being able to go med-free (although I'm open to the epi if it becomes necessary). Hope your meeting with her goes well!
bananas / 9357 posts
@Running Elley: I definitely think having the doula is going to help take the pressure off me and DH.
@hilsy85: I didn't know you were using a doula! I feel very late to the game with it, but luckily I was able to find one last minute. I'm really excited about it. I thought my DH would be against it, but he was all for it. I think he was feeling a lot of pressure, so this is helping to ease him as well. I'm planning to go med-free as well, but open to the epi if I need it.

I received all my pay information for the duration of my mat leave from my employer today, and my record of employment, and now I can apply to government for the maternity coverage! Hopefully it's easy enough to navigate though, thankfully I can do it all online!
My pay only goes down to 93% of what I am paid now for the entire year, and my employer tops me up during the two week waiting period when the government doesn't, so not a huge change for us financially, which is hugely amazing.
SO tired today, had an early dinner, yummy stir fry I made, DH has already gotten home, eaten and left again! Meetings with coaches and players before the trip out West tomorrow, he still isn't packed.....I am going to try to stay on the couch and not start that for him.....I need some horizontal time!
I purchased everything remaining on my list for what we need for the hospital today! Got some pads, some granny panties, and travel size toiletries, freezies, I'm feeling set now
coconut / 8681 posts
@Beebug: You got a lot done! Doesn't it feel good to have everything so you're prepared? I went shopping for that stuff on Monday and I feel a lot better now about it!
How's everyone feeling physically? I'm feeling like I got ran over by a truck. I'm exhausted, not much of an appetite, feeling just generally crampy. Just blah. I wish today was my last day of work instead of Friday!
