@hellobeeboston: I know! I'm trying not to get my hopes up that labor will happen soon.

@Mrs.B: Sorry! I must have misread....! I thought I saw it was supposed to be Alia, switched to Elia, not the other way around....preggo brain!

DH had the name book with him all last night and decided Chelsea was a fave. That has been one of my faves all along while he's been hung up on Brianna, and now he doesn't want Brianna at all. Looks like we're at Chelsea, Annie, or Caleigh/Kaleigh/Kaileigh/Caileigh......I'm impressed we have somewhat of a short list....two days from EDD, lol.

@hellobeeboston: I hope so But I have this nagging, subconscious feeling that this is all going to end one way: induction.
@Beebug: hehe way to go on picking 5 different names 2 days before she arrives! Lol. I think you'll be fine though because when you see her you'll just "get it!"

  4. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@TurtleDoves: oh how hopeful was I for you thinking you were calling labour with this post!

You and me both on the induction front

It's really only 3 names....just a zillion different ways to spell one, I think I like Caleigh the best, but without the "I" between a and l is it going to be messed up with "callie"? The traditional way we'd love to spell it is Ceilidh (gaelic) but then it's a saying and spelling issue, lol. Wouldn't be a problem on East Coast (DH from there) but here it would be a nightmare!

@Beebug: Regarding the how does it feel to not have a baby in the belly question...it's really weird! Part of me can't even really remember what it was like to have him inside instead. I catch myself putting my hand on my belly too My belly looks pretty normal- not like it did prepregnancy but I don't think by looking at me you'd guess I had a baby 3 days ago either. I can bend and touch my toes, pick things up from the floor, etc!

@Running Elley: I can't wait to see a 1 week PP shot:) You didn't get big anywhere...you were all belly:)

    coconut / 8681 posts

@TurtleDoves: Aw thank you! I feel like I got fat everywhere! My stomach looks normal but there's a lot of toning to be done and work that needs to happen in lots of other places. I feel a lot better though- way more comfortable in my body. Not much longer for you girl!!!

  8. CupQuakeWalk

@Running Elley: can't wait:) I want y body back to be honest with you. It may take time but at least when baby is out I will feel lighter , even if I'm not:) and PS: can I say how excited I get every time I see you posting something and it's not a pregnancy question but a parenting question!!?! It's insane: I love it!

Checking in! I've been reading all the posts, I'm thinking about everyone! I was hoping to see someone get today for a birthday - I really wanted 10/11/12!!!
Other thoughts & notes: ( and of course, I'm no expert and I hope I don't sound like a know it all... Just sharing!!)
    - the anesthesia in the epi gave me the shivers sooooo bad! My teeth were chattering on and off. I wasn't really expecting that.
    - I threw up right before the epi during a contraction. It's not unusual for me to throw up. B/c my tears were so bad, they gave me some lighter version of morphine. That made me throw up twice once we got to the recovery room and I was able to eat. Then I took Zofran and that made it better. So, I wasn't able to eat and keep it down for 24 hours. I was soooo hungry!
    - this may be TMI, but your first BM is sooo painful. I started taking colace (stool softener) after delivery and finally had a BM about 2-3 days later. It hurt, but I can't imagine what it would have been like without colace.
    - my labor went so fast we didn't use anything in our labor bag, but Chapstick, a fan, and mint gum. I think we would have if labor ha been longer though.
    - as far as not having the baby in my belly, I thought it would be weird, but it hasn't been. I do put my hand on my stomach a lot. I know I am an exception, but I lost 15 lbs at the beginning of pregnancy and gained back all 15 + 4 lbs. I'm now down 20 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight. So... Yeah, I'm not the norm. My wedding rings don't fit though - even though I wore them up til 2 weeks ago. My belly is very different now though- very squishy.

A breastfeeding update! We went back to the LC this morning and Delaney gained 4.5 oz in a day! She was 9 lb 3 oz at birth, down to 8 lb 12 oz at release, 8 lbs 9.5 oz yesterday, and 8 lbs 14 oz today! My milk came in yesterday. I feel so much better. The latch is still crazy painful... Like as much as labor pain and its toe curling... But after 10-30 seconds its better.
I think finding a good lactation consultant is key! And if it doesn't work out, don't feel bad... It's the hardest thing I've done, even more than labor bc it's around the clock every day.

Ok... Time to feed again Keeping my fingers crossed for a new October baby soon!

I'm so ready for my body back too. I want to feel lighter and be able to bend over easily. @Running Elley: Glad to hear you're feeling a lot better. Did the heartburn go away?

@CarrieLouWho: thank you for all that insider info!!! Keep it comin;)
and I secretly wanted 10/11/12 as my baby's bday (but it's almost 7pm here so I'm counting myself out of the game). Hope someone gets it by midnight!

@TurtleDoves: It definitely sounds like you're just hours away from the real thing!
@mrskc: 2 cm?! Yay! Were you surprised?

My appt was yesterday and I am 1 cm dilated and baby's head is really low. I know not to get excited about this. I was just pleased that all the pressure I'm feeling is for a good reason!

@hilsy - I haven't had a single BH contraction. Is it weird that I kind of wish I could feel one?

To the mamas - I'm so glad to still see you around and thank you for your tips! I hear breastfeeding is the hardest in the first 2 weeks but that it does get better. Stick with it but more importantly, do what is best for you and baby!

Thinking of you guys always as I'm stuck at work without HB while I train my new staff member. Last day of "work" is tomorrow, but I'm still going in next week to tie up loose ends and provide assistance to my newbie.

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

No excitement from me. Baby super quiet again, worrying me a little, I won't lie....guess who got a cold pop can to the belly to wake someone up? She was not impressed, lol.

I still couldn't tell you what BH contraction feels like, worries me a little....like....does my body know how to do this? Sure hope so.

Cold sore is SO painful, the pain and swelling from it is going up my nose, I feel like rudolph, do not look pretty and just want to hide.....as if feeling like a beached whale wasn't enough! Better mental day today though....! Ready to hide my phone on myself though, I have one friend who won't leave me alone checking in, which....is fine, but it's the "advice"/knowledge that comes after the checking in messages that drives me batty.

Here's hoping for some solid rest tonight!

@CarrieLouWho: love the tidbits of knowledge/experience so far, keep it coming!!

I can't wait to see what I look like post-baby!!! I thought about starting to work on toning my arms again, like light weights and wall push ups? I think I could handle a bit of that! Get a bit of a head start on them

  14. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

@Tidybee: I have to admit I was a little surprised. I'm trying to not let it make me feel anxious. I know I could walk around 2 cm for awhile.

    @CarrieLouWho: Thanks for sharing!

@Beebug: I think it's possible to have BH contractions and not feel it. For me my whole belly goes really hard and then it relaxes after a little bit.

  17. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@TurtleDoves: I don't know!!! Nothing regular by any means and it doesn't feel crampy. It's like clusters of sharp, sharp pain on the lower half of my belly! I feel relief "when it's over' but can definitely feel it coming on again. Baby is moving like a wild thing, so I don't know if it's just her playing jokes on me, but I've definitely never felt this before.

@Beebug: Eeeek! Hopefully it's the real deal!

Alia's blood work wasn't great today but was good enough to avoid the NICU for now. We go again tomorrow and we are hoping her levels will finally start dropping. Today she was at a 15.7 which was only .4 more yesterday so not a significant increase which is good but she needs to start going down in order to stay out of the NICU.

Little miss has been cluster/comfort feeding today and tonight so I am EXTREMELY exhausted. She is finally asleep laying on my chest I'm terrified to move her but she needs to go back under her therepy blanket. She's been attached to my boob all day today.

Breastfeeding has been surprisingly easy this time around. I have had no issues with cracked nipples or soreness. I haven't even used any nipple cream. Alia latches great and I was even able to pump 4 ounces today when I felt my breast getting full. With DS breastfeeding was so hard I'm glad it's easier the second time around.

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

Whatever it was (lasted 2 to 2 1/2 hours last night) was nothing I guess? I fell asleep and woke up this morning feeling normal ish!

Going to walk the dog and get myself on the couch! Congestion/cold is finally letting up, but my nose is so swollen and sore, look like rudolph!

@Running Elley: that sounds awesome! I can't wait to comfortably be able to put on shoes

@CarrieLouWho: thanks for all the info, keep it coming! I am SO not excited about the first post baby poop...did they give you the colace at the hospital or did you bring it?

@Tidybee: definitely not weird! It feels just like @mrskc described--a tightening/hardening of my belly all over. It means absolutely nothing, unfortunately! Sounds like you had a good appt, and yay for ALMOST being completely done with work!

@Mrs.B: glad that alia doesn't need to go back to the nicu! I hope her levels continue to improve...and goodness I can't wait to have a baby sleeping on my chest

@Beebug: hmm maybe it's the beginning of something! Sometimes contractions start and stop over a few days? Anyway, glad your cold is going away!

So no 10.11.12 babies for us! Our LOs will come when they're ready, I suppose...is anyone else still kind of in disbelief that we're having BABIES this month (except for those of you who have had them already, lol)? It still feels so surreal to me! Like I'm so anxious for him to be here, but at the same time, it doesn't seem like he'll actually ever be here and be a real baby. Very strange. Anyway, happy friday to everyone! Any fun plans for the weekend? I think DH and I are going to try to carve a pumpkin tomorrow, and we have our niece's 6th birthday party.

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

@hilsy85: I'm still in denial, lol. But then I see our October Mama's who have their babies, and just this morning I see four announcements on a Canadian board I go on and I think "why not my turn yet". But then I think...me? Real baby? Nooooo! Total disbelief we're "this far", at this point I expected to be so different, so much as I feel like a beached whale, am sick, and have had a bit of a go, I thought it would be so much worse by this point in terms of discomfort, how I felt, etc. I think about how this pregnancy started (right after loss) the level drop, the hemorrhage, the "scares" and think how on earth did we get this far where we do get to have a baby! Unreal, I seriously cannot even wait, I know it's going to be tough, but it's why we're here and I am SO excited for her in our arms.

Plans for weekend? Fall street festival in my hometown (10 mins away) Saturday we'll go to I think! The team DH coaches hockey for has their home opener tonight and I desperately want to go, but my nose is so swollen, I look awful.....so may stay home, they have another home game Sunday, dog has agility class Sunday too. I'd like to make more plans, but just getting better sickwise I don't want to over do it, but I would like to make plans and then have to cancel them for reasons of labour....lol....one can dream.

@TurtleDoves: Oh you definitely feel lighter...immediately! It's a great feeling lol. I can't wait to see your little guy!@CarrieLouWho: Good idea!! I'll have to think of some extra things to share too
@mrskc: The heartburn is completely gone. I haven't had any at all since I went into labor. Thank goodness!

  24. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

@Mrs.B: I hope her levels continue to improve and she avoids NICU! So glad to hear BFing is going well for you.

@hilsy85: I'm definitely in disbelief. I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that there is a REAL baby in there and that he's mine and he is going to come out at some point. It just feels so surreal.

No big plans for the weekend. This is finally the first weekend where I feel like I don't have a million errands to run to prepare for the baby. I mostly just need to finish packing for the hospital. Hoping to just relax this weekend with DH. I really want to go to a pumpkin patch, but DH isn't into it. I'm going to try to convince him to take me. I'll probably be stalking this board waiting to see who's going to be next. I think either TurtleDoves or Beebug!

@Running Elley: Yay for no heartburn!

-Make sure to eat something before you go to the hospital. Since my water broke at midnight I didn't even think about it but I didn't deliver until 3:30pm and even though my actual delivery was pretty great I REALLY would've appreciated the energy at that point. I was so hungry. After I delivered I had no energy left and I was shaking so DH fed me raisins lol. Even a simple PB sandwich before we left the house would've made a difference I think.
-Make sure that you have newborn sized socks. I did not think that socks would be important for our guy and we only had a few pairs. But it's cold and his little toes freeze if we don't have socks on him all the time.
-The halo swaddle sleep sack is a lifesaver. E won't sleep on his back without one of us holding him unless he's swaddled and he's the master escape artist of blanket swaddles. The sleep sack is the only thing that holds him in and the only way that he stays asleep on his back for any period of time.
-Bring a boppy or breastfeeding pillow to the hospital. It was really nice to have while we were learning .
-We also didn't really use anything that I packed for during labor in our hospital bag! At the time I didn't want to think about anything else and I couldn't concentrate anyway so bringing magazines, music, etc. was pointless for us.

I'll post more if I think of any! Can't wait to hear some more birth stories- it sounds like a bunch of you are getting REALLY close!

@Mrs.B: so glad she's always feeding! That's good for jaundice levels

@hilsy85: I know! Out of alllllllll of October, not ONE of us managed to take 10/11/12. I can't believe this...:( & speaking of not believing stuff: no, I don't actually understand that I'm "having a baby". I understand *you* are...but not me. I can't fathom it.

@Beebug: No weekend plans...cleaning lady coming to disinfect and clean house so it'll be sparkly clean for the induction on Monday night:) *unless I go spontaneously!* other than that: just going to pray everything goes smoothly and try to relax:)

    @Running Elley: Thank-you for more suggestions/tips.

Seriously. Same friend from yesterday driving me crazy again today. I will tell her to stop soon. She was like "hey, how are you", I said "good, how are you doing today?" and she doesn't even answer that and asks "are you in labour".....

Really? I don't have to talk about preggo/not in labour all.the.time. I get she's excited, but if I was in labour I either would likely say so, or not be on phone, lol...... and then goes on about how a friend of ours will be on shift this week/next week at the hospital and she can be a familiar face for me.....really? That is the last time I want a friend around, I love my friends, and my fam, but DH will have enough fun dealing with me, let alone having others around.....ugh...I'm a snot, lol....rant over.

@TurtleDoves: Send the cleaning lady over here after, what a great idea!

I have a bit of a headache, naptime for me I think!

@Beebug: next pregnancy we're not telling ANYone of our due date. If it's the first week of some month...we'll say our DD is "middle of the month" Because both DH & I get texts EVERY hour from the most random people "are you parents yet?!" Um no, if we were were, we would have told you.

@Beebug: How annoying! Is this the same friend that sent you that letter? I think I would start ignoring my texts.

Is anyone else getting tired of talking about their pregnancy with people. My coworkers are starting to annoy me. They keep saying oh I hope I don't see you Monday. How are you feeling? I think it's going to happen real soon. blah blah blah hahaha they are seriously making me feel anxious. I have a feeling it's only going to get worse the closer I get to my due date.

  32. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@mrskc: YES. At the wedding we went to last weekend, it was like the same conversation over and over and over..." Oh when are you due? Oh wow, how are you feeling? Are you excited? Is everything ready? You're not going to go into labor now are you?" GRRR. And even my mom is getting annoying with it--she keeps asking me if I've made progress at the doctor, which means that I keep having to tell her NO I'm still at the same place I was two weeks ago!

  33. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

@hilsy85: I feel like I'm constantly repeating myself. I mean i get that it's an easy conversation starter with me. But I feel like a broken record.

I notice I get way more comments from strangers now too. Everywhere I go people are asking me when I'm due, what am I having, etc. Oh and I love the "are you getting the epi?" I think that's a real personal question for a stranger to be asking me. Luckily no stranger has attempted to touch the belly. Has anyone had a stranger touch their belly yet?

@TurtleDoves: Seriously good idea. I am definitely going to fake people out on dates next time, this is insane!!

@mrskc: Super tired about talking with people about it, yes I'm pregnant, no it is not all what I want to talk about and I make so much effort to talk about other things with people, argh! This is not the friend that sent the letter, this is another one. Funny they are two very close girlfriends, but both of them actually parent/do things SO opposite to how we live/how we hope to parent, so it's going to be interesting once baby is here!

I put some polysporin on my nose and omg the pain relief (I don't think it's one with any pain relief in it though?) has been amazing. I feel human, so it's a nice break....!

@TurtleDoves: You hanging in there, lady?? Hope you have one enjoyable weekend with your DH...this is probably your last one by the sound of it! Walk, sex, bounce, pineapple, repeat....
We're having our apartment deep-cleaned this weekend too...so excited. It's the little things these days.
@mrskc: I am definitely getting sick of it! It's every email, phone call, text I get lately. My coworkers look at my belly before my face and even the starbucks barista said she thought I'd be gone by now this morning! My mom and I barely talk during the week..maybe an email here and there. This wednesday, she knew I had an appointment, but I didn't tell her it was in the afternoon and usually they're in the morning before work. By 10am, I had a voicemail message, 2 texts, and an email from her asking about it. It's definitely annoying...I'm glad to know I'm not alone in getting bored by talking about the same thing every conversation with people!
@Chastenet: That made me smile!!!! Thanks for posting! She is too cute for words, and the baguette just made my mouth water. You should see all the French stuff we have for this baby! My friend even had a bib made that says I Baguettes. We can't wait until our little Baguette wants to come out of the oven.
