@hilsy85: I heard from my ped that taking a probiotic will help with the cleansing of your uterine system and the discharge of lochia too....so, maybe we all should all consider them. I've never taken any...but yet, I used to eat yogurt on a daily basis too

@Beebug: thanks for the bday wish. I just bought the ameda purely yours double electric pump. It did have more negative reviews compared to the medela but it sounds like they have really great customer service. I've used it twice now and works fine for me. What I like is that you don't have to wash any tubing. It's a closed system.

@TurtleDoves: interesting about the probiotic and the lochia. I'm 4 weeks pp and still having discharge. Maybe I'll have to give it a try.

@Mrs.B: that is too cute! Love her outfit.

Just had our first open air accident. AJ peed all over his own face. Lol

@mrskc: ha we have had so many of those! Leo pees on himself at least once a day...makes for lots of outfit changes! @TurtleDoves: hm interesting! I didn't know that.

I had a day where Chels did all three on the change pad, she was spitting up, so I was tending to that, and while leaving her butt uncovered, she got both out.....what a mess!

I had a meltdown this am.

Bought the freestyle pump (yesterday), it was like $600+ after taxes, added warranty, and pump cost. It cost me about $130, out of pocket, rest was gifted/gift cards. I still haven't opened it, and now that it's in the house, I don't want to. Just seems like SO much to do so little. What if I don't like pumping? Does this pump achieve what I want it for? Would a lesser pump give me the few bottles worth I need to get that break? The pain of bf'ing, can I just suck it up? Feeding her really is my only job right now....! If I ebf for another at least 6 weeks (Jan 1st let's say as a minimum) is supplementing a night feed with formula or lesser pump pumped milk all we need? I'm off for a year, so pumping for back to work purposes is null. Do I really want to pump? (Answer: not sure, pretty intimidated about starting, and to be honest not really sure aaaat all). Can I pump (some other way) or supplement formula via bottles enough to give myself a break? Will the $600 pump achieve feeling like I can get away (now I feel like I'll feel like a cow tied to a pump).

    Oye. My brain.

If I keep things simple and just think about ebf'ing, I'm ok, I promise!! Aside from when she has her thrashing freakouts on my boob in the evenings. I add this pump into my head and just think/worry (and yes, perhaps unnecessarily) too much and it now just doesn't seem worth it?

I don't know what the hell to do, lol. Thank-god she's healthy, growing and that's all we can ask for.

I see my doc Wednesday next week, think I will at the very least wait to see what he says and go from there?

    Oye.

@Beebug: OK.CALM.DOWN.:) Pumping is stressful....I'm assuming you're talking about exclusively pumping? I started a few days ago and honestly...it's been very relaxing. I pump every 5 hours and I get enough for 2 feedings (but my son eats every 3h). I keep the milk in the fridge (I don't freeze it because what is the point?). And then at night (or during the day) when I *feel* like breastfeeding for comfort: I do! You're not tied down to anything. You can alternate between breast and bottle all day long. Honestly, it feels amazing to releive my breats from engorement and empty them out entirely with the pump. I love it now but like you, I was really confused and worried. Either way---as far as the pump goes, the much cheaper ones aren't as good. Honestly-these pumps (Medela styles) are amazing. It empties my breasts and has all these levels and comes with so many pieces for storage and feeding and carrying. You made the right decision by buying it! Take this from a girl who uses her pump 4-5 times a day with pleasure!

@mrskc: regarding lochia....me too. Not happy about it because I thought it may be over by now but, I have a mom friend who said she bled for roughly 60 days with each of her 3 kids. Not looking forward to that.
@Running Elley: aw poor Elliot! That's gota suck;)

Nolan has open air accidents a lot more with DH changing him. I am a lot faster. Although Nolan has peed in his mouth, DH was mortified and I laughed and suctioned out his mouth.

@Beebug: Pumping is rough at first. I can understand the feeling of being chained to the pump. My DS couldn't breastfeed at birth because of a severe tongue tie so I have been pumping since then. It gets easier and it is nice to have a break, plus DH loves to be able to feed DS. Don't stress and just try it. You can message me or Turtledove if you have questions. I think we both EP.

@beebug - how was it $600?!?! I thought they were usually around $270?

  13. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

@Beebug: Aw hun! Sorry you're stressing about this I don't really have much advice, as I only pumped for a few days out of necessity to let my boobies heal. I personally found it to be really annoying and time consuming, because I felt like i Was always washing parts and bottles. But if you're EP, then you'd have lots of extra parts and bottles so you wouldn't have to wash as often. I guess I'm a little confused as to why you would want to switch to EP--is it that you feel like you need a break from always being the one to feed LO? In that case, I don't think you need to go all the way to EP--you could easily just pump enough for a bottle or two each day so DH can feed her. As for which pump, I would stick to the one you got. I can't believe it's $600 though?! That seems crazy expensive (is it because it's in Canada?). Even if you're not pumping often, to do it with a sub par pump will probably just be frustrating for you. Plus, you only paid $130 for it, so just look at that as the total cost--don't think about the actual total, since you were able to use gift cards, etc. ALSO just remember what everyone says--at 6-8 weeks it gets better! The babies get more efficient, breastfeeding gets easier, and things even out. I am holding out for this to happen as well--counting down the days til the 6 week mark!

@MrsRcCar: I didn't realize you were EP (or maybe I forgot-I *AM* sleep deprived after all ). I am so glad I have someone to relate to!

So guys....Look who is 1 month old today and from the look on his face, very proud of it!

@TurtleDoves: Omg so precious!!!!!!!! I just love him!
@hilsy85: Thank you! I looked up thrush on Kelly mom so I've been following their guidelines. I kind of think that I'm having these issues because of the way my skin is naturally. I have dermatitis and I think it may just be irritated? Gosh, idk. During the day it seems better so I second guess myself.
@Beebug: I'm sorry that this has been so stressful! I can definitely understand how overwhelming it all is being the one person responsible for feeding a baby is huge and feels like a lot of pressure! I dont EP but I do pump once a day to set up a freezer stash and I love my pump!

Starting yesterday Elliot has been showing actual interest in playing on his floor mat and he's just been awake longer and responding to play time. I love it!
Also, DH and I DTD last night- I was terrified but it went a lot better than I expected! I was 5w1d PP and my recovery has been great, no bleeding since 3 weeks PP and only 2 minor minor minor inner tears. We just took it slow. Has anyone else "gone there" yet? I'm a little sore today but glad that we know now how it goes!

    grapefruit / 4712 posts

@running Elley: We haven't gone there yet....DH really wants to but I am worried it will be very painful. I didn't have any major tearing, and the bleeding has been done for a while.

@TurtleDoves: He is so adoreable!! I have been EP since day one because of his issues. At first I really didn't like pumping all the time but now I don't pump all the time, I pump every 6 hours. My supply is good enough, to pump one bottle to feed him with and one bottles-worth to freeze! It is wonderful!

Anyone been on a really good date night since your little one arrived? Dh and I are going to try this date thing tonight, of course DS is coming with.

  17. Running Elley

    coconut / 8681 posts

@MrsRcCar: Wow your supply sounds amazing and only pumping every 6 hours is awesome! No date night here yet but I'm going to plan one for next Friday! Have fun tonight! What are you guys doing?

  18. CupQuakeWalk

    coconut / 8475 posts

@Running Elley: didn't DTD yet but something else that may or may not have damaged my stitches ...ugh. They are OK but the soreness has returned. As soon as bleeding stops I'm going to pop a painkiller and try again;) good for you guys!
@MrsRcCar: we had a date night but I spent the whole time texting the sitter (my sister). So, I kind of ruined it by worrying about DS the whole time. I need to relax! Have fun on yours)

@MrsRcCar: We went on our first date night without LO!) last friday. Dh was really pushing for it, so we had his parents watch Leo and we went to a local restaurant. It was fun, and nice to have my first full glass of wine in 9 months! I was anxious of course, and definitely ready to go home after two hours, but I think the time alone was good for us.

@Running Elley: good luck, I' hope it's not thrush! Good for you for DTD...I am really scared about it! Dh has been ready since Leo was born, lol. I also didn't have much damage--just one internal stitch, and I have no pain and the bleeding has pretty much stopped. But I am waiting to get the go ahead from my ob at my 6 week checkup (and depending on how I feel, I might tell DH that she said I need another few weeks ).

@runningelley - we have not DTD yet... I am terrified. 3rd degree tear + urethra tear and it took the Dr. An hour to stitch me up ( no idea how many stitches, but it was a lot!). I go for my check up at 7 weeks, but it will be after that before we try. I want to, but physically I don't think I could do it. I'm still bleeding.
But good for you! It gives me hope that we will be able to some time soon!
@mrsrccar - we went on a day date to see Wreck it Ralph. It was great to get out! D stayed with my in laws, they loved it.

@Running Elley: DH is more then ready to DTD but we are waiting for the ok from my OB at my 6 week apt Monday. It's been about 2 months now which seems like an eternity!

Regarding pumping...... I hate it. I pump every few days so my freezer stash is pretty lame but I'm ok with that.

I am back from our mini date night. I wish it had gone better. We don't have family living near us that is willing to watch DS, so we took him with us. We just went out to dinner to a large well known breakfast chainbecause our other plans fell through. Usually I don't mind going to a well known breakfast chain but we had the WORST service. Plus DS was fussy the whole time. Needless to say our little date night was a total fail. Although it was nice to not cook or have to do more dishes.

I am hoping that we can get a real date night soon. We are moving closer to my family within the week. So I am sure soon enough we will get a date night, that is just the two of us.

I am off to write a nasty letter to the breakfast chain people about our terrible service.

@Beebug: aw I'm sorry you're having a hard time. BFing isn't easy and it's a lot of pressure to be the only one responsible for feeding your LO. I hear it gets better around 6 weeks. Hang in there! You're doing a great job. It's a hard adjustment being a FTM.

@TurtleDoves: 60 days?! Gosh I hope mine stops sooner than that. And your LO is a cutie!

@Running Elley: have not done the deed yet. I'm still sore on some days and I know I haven't healed completely yet. I had a 2nd degree tear tho. I would like to and I know DH is ready.

@MrsRcCar: we haven't had a date night yet. I would like to go on one soon. I just got a pump and have pumped a couple of times so I have a little stash. I'm lucky and have my mom close by and she's up for babysitting whenever.

I went out to do some shopping all by my lonesome today. I left a bottle of pumped milk for my DH to give to AJ. I have to admit that it felt pretty nice to have some alone time. I felt like my old self again.

@MrsRcCar: sorry your dinner didn't go well. We tried to go out to dinner last week with LO and it was ok. He woke up halfway thru dinner and I'm not very good at BFing in public yet so we had to hurry up and get home.

@TurtleDoves: LOL thank-you for the calm down, it wasn't that I was amped up, I think I just began to really question wtf I was doing, lol.

I am going to return it today. I am feeling 80 million times better with breastfeeding. I think I thought I *had* to switch to EP'ing with this pump, but realistically there really is no reason for me too, and I really don't think switching will solve my feeling isolated/stuck feeding her problems. I am going to wait a few more weeks before committing to getting it (or not) and buy a used lesser pump, or borrow my cousins Medela Swing like she offered so there is no pressure to trying pumping, or at the very least building a small stash for a date night, afternoon out, etc.

Thank-you for your kind words, and calming ones, lol.

@MrsRcCar: Thank-you....! I posted too about bf'ing HURTING the other day and someone (need to go back and look) posted about a nipple cream different than the one I was using and between that and focusing on her getting latched properly each time, I am back to pretty much pain free..... I still selfishly hate leaking everywhere and the not so hot parts of bf'ing, but as my DH said....keep it simple....my job is to just feed her right now, nothing else.

@CarrieLouWho: They are $449 in Canada Plus 13% sales tax, $89 + tax warranty (which I realize is optional, but peace of mind) and some extra parts/accessories. I just don't think I want to pump "enough" to be worth $600+ for a pump. I want to pump enough to get out of the house a night or two, afternoon or two, and I just feel like for $600+ I should be EP'ing, and for the moment I thought that's what I wanted, I think I am still ok with ebf'ing.

@hilsy85: Thank-you, as I typed to one of the other ladies above, I am probably going to buy used/lesser pump or borrow in the next few weeks and then maybe consider the big purchase of this pump in a few more weeks, for now, just feels like such a big purchase, and too much pressure.

@TurtleDoves: One month! Time is flying....we hit one month next week, isn't it crazy how fast time goes, and how much they've grown!?

@Running Elley: DTD! J-E-A-L-O-U-S. Somehow through sleep deprivation, down moments, and just everything, my sex drive is slightly through the roof (TMI, woo!) and I cannot wait. Good for you, ahhhh someday!!

@MrsRcCar: Hope date night was good, we haven't done anything date-like yet....!

@MrsRcCar: Reading your follow-up on the date! Sorry it didn't go so well, at the very least you got out, and next time will be better!

@mrskc: Awesome you got out for some alone time!

I bought Lansinoh Lanolin, has previously been using Earth Mama nipple butter, I thought the butter was great, but then the cracks/pain happened! The Lansinoh stuff is so.much.better. feeling great now, which is the next closest thing to a miracle!

C was up for three hours yesterday am, happy and hanging out, napped on/off most of afternoon, but was then up 4-8pm....FUSSY. It was awful, not sure if she had an upset tummy or what, it meant a great night of sleep last night (I got in bed with DH, woo!) but still, I would never wish that fuss time on anyone.

DH leaves for work tomorrow am, away hockey game tomorrow night and Saturday night, he's away til middle of the night Sat night/Sun am, so I am "bracing" for that right now....ugh. No more away weekends until January after this one!

Santa parade in my hometown Saturday! Hoping for nice weather, and timing right with C so I can go!

@Beebug: we have been dealing with the same fussy time the last few nights!! It's so tiring and I feel bad for DH because he gets home just in time for a fussy man hope he outgrows it soon. I keep meaning to ask, anyone's shoe size changed?

I'm still wearing pre-baby/wore while preg running shoes, but my new pair will need to be a half size up! Current ones are worn out and still tight, sorta bummed, puts me into double digits at a size 10!

@Beebug: OMG! She is too cute. My LO one gets fussy too.
He seems to be fussy in the mornings and the evening. Pretty much all day especially when I'm home alone with him. It makes it harder when I can't pass him off to someone to get a break. It's like no matter what I do he doesn't seem happy.

Just got back from AJ's one month check up. He weighed 10 lbs 12 oz! He was 7 lb 7 oz at birth and weighed 7 lbs 3 days after he was born. I can't believe how much weight he gained. Is it silly for me to be worried that he's gaining too much? The doctor didn't say anything. He seemed pleased with his weight so I guess I shouldn't worry. Lol

@Beebug: ahh love that hair! Leo also has a fussy period at night sometimes...the pedi said it's the "witching hour" and usually decreased by 12 weeks. Hopefully she's right! My feet seem to have gone back to their old size, thank goodness!

@mrskc: wow good for you with the weight gain!! Yay AJ! He is ADORABLE, I love your photo set up.

We also had our one month appt today--Leo is 9lbs2oz and 22.8inches long--so like 30th percentile for weight and 80something percentile for height. Long and skinny, just like his dad! He also got his Hep B shot and cried real tears, which of course made me cry. I'm going to be a mess when he gets his 2 month shots!
