    @Beebug: regarding the feeding: maybe she is getting super efficient and doesn't need as much time? My LO used to take forever...like 35mins to feed. Now, he is done in 10mins! And i'm like shoving it back in his mouth but he just refuses:) and if you can get LO to sleep on her side...would you take a picture, please? I am trying to do this (because of his acid reflux) but I don't know how I am supposed to do that without some sort of pillow. I admit, for his naps, because I am awake and checking on him constantly, I let him sleep on the Boppy.

    I "stuff" her sides with receiving blankets even when she's sleeping with me so I don't/can't get too close to her in bed, but when I get her 'stuffed' in bassinet I will take a pic!

    re: efficient....I hand expressed 3.5 oz in 8 mins yesterday, so the milk is a comin' to her, so I am confident with the short stints, just feel bad the ones in the night I'm not really burping her (she falls back asleep) nor am I changing her (if she were to have #2 in there I would, but it seems to just be pee thru night!

    PS I am loving cloth diapering!

    @hilsy85: @TurtleDoves: He left this morning thank goodness!!! I was under the impression that he was leaving yesterday morning- I guess I was wrong. Ugh I'm just glad we have our house back! DH is still sick though
    @hilsy85: We basically follow E's cues on the schedule. Luckily he's stuck to it pretty well! The only time I'd wake him up is to have bedtime on schedule. During the day we roll with it. I think I'm going to try a dream feed tonight! From what I've read it seems like it'd be easiest with a bottle since you don't even have to take LO out of the crib but I'm going to try it with nursing this time.
    @Beebug: SO cute!!

    Is anyone else suffering through the 6 week growth spurt? Starting the night before last Elliot wants to eat much more often than he was, has been more fussy than usual and has only really been taking power naps before wanting to eat again. That combined with DH's sickness will drive me nuts I think!

    @TurtleDoves: That's great news about bf'ing! Can I ask, where do your nipples get sore when LO's latch isn't good? Is it all over or just in one spot? I'm trying to figure out if my persistant nipple pain is due to recurrent thrush, or if LO's latch is actually not good. It seems like it's good, because his mouth is in the right position, my nipple looks normal, etc. But it hurts! Specifically on the bottom of my nipple. And boo to your period! I have stopped bleeding as of last week, but still have some discharge (yuck). I'm hoping my period stays far far away!

    @Beebug: I agree maybe she's getting more efficient? Her sleep last nightsounds great! Jealous

    @Running Elley: free at last:) & seriously, there's a friggin 6w growth spurt, too? ah...i'm exhausted just thinking about it...

    @Beebug: I don't change LO is he falls asleep. I wash his behind with soap and water in his tub before bed...and then put diaper rash cream on him as a preventative measure at his last change of the night. Then he does his 6 hours without a change...and then another 3h. He has never gotten a rash (knock on wood!). You know what they say about waking a sleeping baby.....*shutter*

  10. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

    @TurtleDoves: you can also try putting a rolled up towel/blanket under his crib mattress to elevate it on one side, so he's not lying flat on his back. I've heard that also helps with the reflux?

  11. CupQuakeWalk

    coconut / 8475 posts

    @Hilsy85: yes! The bottom on the nipple, on the areola. And around the nipple in general. I have started to stick a Tuck's pad in between my nipple and my breast-pad...along with lanolin. It helps a bunch! Just remember to wipe it with a wet washcloth before nursing because I am not sure if Witch Hazel is good for baby? I read somewhere that you were waiting until the 6-8w mark for LO to become a pro at BFing...and I honestly think he will be. I mean, mine was terrible..and now as we approach 6w, he is getting so much better. It's like he's smarter...his instincts kind of kicked in (granted, not entirely, but enough).
    regarding the rolled up towel: I totally remember hearing about that trick while I was pregnant...I've got to try that! Maybe tonight...i'll take a pic of my success ...or fail.

  12. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

    @TurtleDoves: ok one more question--are your nipples sore throughout the day or just when he's latching/nursing? Mine kind of hurt on and off throughout the day so I don't know if that's normal nipple soreness or something else! I am glad to hear that your LO is getting better, gives me hope! Sometimes we have good nursing sessions, and some are really bad, lol. Thanks for the tip on the tucks pad! I will try it.

  13. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

    And voila!

    Let's see if this lasts.....naptime for me maybe?

    Those hands/arms have to have room to move, otherwise she wakes up......needy much?

    Does this look ok? Obviously wanting no blankets to end up in her face......rolled tight and kept below her face, the receiving blanket behind her is the smallest/loosest one, front ones are wrapped tighter and mushed in thicker so she'll go to her back worst case.

    @Running Elley: glad your house guest left! Ugh haven't hit the 6 w growth spurt yet. Alex will be 6 weeks on Sunday so I imagine its coming. I barely survived the 3 week one.

    @TurtleDoves: post a pic if you do the towel under the mattress! Let us know how it works. A is sleeping in his bouncy seat at night. Prolly not the best but he sleeps the longest in it. I've tried the pack n play but we'll only get 2.5 hour stretches.

    @Beebug: so cute!

    Hope everyone had ok nights.....!

    DH is up for hockey, Chels asleep in her basinet (was in there whole night -on side, fed at 1 and 5!) Fussed a bit last evening, but I "won" when I finally just played tough, put her in there, paci in, and she eventually fell asleep, my hand on her, her gripping my fingers with each hand, lol.

    PS anyone find it crazy there's July 2013 boards already!!! So cool!

    @hilsy85: pretty much all day but not enough to always notice unless theyre grazed or something, ya know? I pump too so maybe that's why mine hurt all day-because they never really get that break (but the again:either do yours). But, the pain is bearable..it's like soreness to the touch...even the pressure of the shower water bothers me at first:/ but either goes away or I forget by the end of the shower.
    @Beebug: haha look at that blanket pile-up! & duh, babies who refuse to sleep at home will always sleep in grocery stores. It's the sad truth about our mommy lives Grrr!
    @mrskc: he looooved it! He is awake now and I forgot to take a picture but I'll go ahead and take one of the empty crib for now. Hopefully you'll be able to tell...I used an orange beach towel because its nice and big (& because we won't miss it until summer comes along!)
    * and yes, if you can see that spot on the pillow, it is indeed drool:)

  19. Beebug

    pomegranate / 3917 posts

    I know the answer to this question is likely variable/baby dependent, but how much should I pump into each bottle?

    What's a worthwhile amount per feeding to store? I know we'll have to feel her out, I wonder if I am better off storing in bags, then adding to bottles, or ?? I think I'm paranoid "transferring" milk too much, or am I ok to do that?

    @TurtleDoves: awesome! Did you just put his head on the towel?

    What size clothing are your LOs wearing? AJ is already going to grow out of 0-3 month soon. I have a lot of cute stuff for him to wear in that size that he hasn't worn yet. hopefully he can squeeze into his Xmas sweater I got him! They grow so fast.

  21. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

    @Beebug: my LO drinks about 4 oz from a bottle. I store it in 4 oz increments in freezer bags. I pump into a bottle then pour into the bag. I don't think the bag measurements are very accurate. Sometimes I leave a bottle in the fridge so there is one ready if I want to leave him with DH while I go out.

    I need to catch up on our thread.

    @Running Elley: Glad he left what a pain

    @Beebug: Alia tajes maybe 10 minutes to eat now. She is super effiecent BFing is so much easier now. Alia also has to cosleep or we get no sleep. During the day she naps in the Ergo or on my chest. I tried a swing but she hates it.

    @mrskc: Alia is already in alot of 6M and 6-9 Month she will be 7 weeks tomorrow. She isn't very long just nice and chunky. I bought her some 3-6 month and they *just* fit. Good thing I only got a few onesie shirts and sleepers because she basically skipped 3-6 month clothing. She is currently wearing some 6-9 month jeggings and a 6-9 month shirt from The Childrens Place.

    DS turns 4 today! Can't believe how fast the last 4 years have gone. Before we know it our little peanuts will be preschoolers too! Ah it makes me sad knowing Alia will be my last baby

    Alia is finally smiling alot now. She LOVES being talked to and is my new little BFF

    @Beebug: we usually do 3-4oz per bottle. @mrskc: Leo is fitting pretty well into carter's 0-3 clothing, although some of it is actually getting a bit short on him. Baby gap stuff seems like it runs huge--not only are the onesies/pants a bit too long for him, they are way too wide (but he is also a string bean). His newborn stuff is definitely too short--makes me kind of sad to see how fast he's growing (but happy too of course). @TurtleDoves: omg re: sore nipples in the shower--showering is such a production for me because I need to take a long time to make sure the water doesn't hit my nips, and then drying off takes forever because god forbid the towel hits them....! Ouch! based on what you describe, I think my issue is also just really really sore nips. WHich is better than having recurrent thrush, so yay!

    Hey everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed their thanksgiving. We had a very busy week. We are moved completely across the state. We managed to get pictures with Santa and to make our family pictures appointment. Nolan looked adorable as usually. On thanksgiving morning we drove to my grandmothers to enjoy the holiday with everyone. I was a little worried about thanksgiving because of pervious family drama but it was the most peaceful holiday we have had in years. Nolan got to meet a lot of our extended family. Everyone was just in love with this little guy. It was a little weird to not have him attached to me but everyone was enjoying him. Dh and I did go out on Black Friday with Nolan but we waited until much later in the morning and hit 4 stores. We did pick up a really cute simply tummy time mat at target for $20. I was pretty pleased. We also picked up a lot cute sleepers at Carter's. This year was the first year that my mom had to work so we didn't get up with the rest of the bargain hunters. I have to admit it was great to sleep in, but next year we will probably be right back at bargain hunting. What kind of deals did you guys find if you went out?

    @MrsRcCar: I waited until 8ish and went to The Childrens Place. Everything was 30% off and I had a coupon for an additional 20% off my enitre purchase. My total was $118 with my coupon and the discount I paid $66. I was happy with that

    @mrskc: yes and it worked! However. I be since removed the towel because I've caught him twist where he slides himself off the towel and gets in this super uncomfortable pitot ion where his nech is all bent and half on/half off the towel. So, I don't think it's worth it seeing as by the time morning rolls along, he has slid himself off:/
    @hilsy85: Omg towel drying...oooouch! I'm so with ya...maybe we need to visit an LC onnnnee more time? I can't fathom an entire year of this:/

    @MrsRcCar: sounds like you've been super busy! I just went to carters and bought some sleep n plays in 3-6 month size.

    @hilsy85: @TurtleDoves: my nips aren't even sore and I hate towel drying. They're just very sensitive. I don't even like the shower water to hit my boobs. Will this ever go away?!

    @hilsy85: @TurtleDoves: @mrskc: So I'm not the only one that still has nipple pain?? IT HURTS. I told DH that I thought it was just supposed to be easy and I thought easy meant less pain. I'm thinking about going to see our LC one more time. One side is worse than the other. This is ridiculous and DH makes fun of me but are your nipples in extreme pain when you get cold? It's torturous to me!
    @MrsRcCar: We left LO with MIL and got a lot of our Christmas shopping done! The only thing we got baby related was a first Christmas outfit from Gymboree. It's adorable

    Elliot's growth spurt completely through off his sleep schedule. And since his sleeping was off our sleeping was off, we were/are exhausted and so we were slack in our crib training Sooo we're basically starting over and he's not adjusting as well this time- he's definitely fighting it more! It's so sad when the sleep sheep turns off because then I know that I've been trying to get him settled for over 45 minutes lol.

    squash / 13764 posts

    @MrsRcCar: glad you had a good thanksgiving! We didn't go shopping at all, we might do cyber Monday to get some new pots and pans. @TurtleDoves: Have you tried putting the towel under the actual mattress--not just under the sheet? I feel like that's the way I've seen it done to create an angle. I actually have been thinking if seeing an LC again bc I think the issue now might be his latch? But it's so expensive ($200) and I feel like if I know what the problem is maybe I can correct it?@Running Elley: Ugh tell me about it. Mine aren't really worse in the cold but they throb after he eats sometimes and his latch on is still super painful sometimes. I keep looking ahead to 6 weeks as that magic time when it ges better, but somehow I don't think that's how it's going to work. Maybe 8 weeks lol.

    Hello everyone, I'm new to this board! I've been reading Hellobee for a while, but just recently found this thread, and I am loving the parenting advice (and commiseration) on here. My son was born on 10/17, so he is 5 weeks old. We're having lots of fun with him, and trying to figure out how to do everything and get into routines, which is difficult!

    @Beebug: Yes, that was me on Facebook! It would be great if you could please add me to the October group.

  32. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

    @Running Elley: fingers crossed 8 weeks is the turning point for you! We also have a sleep sheep (well, it's a sleep giraffe) but we bought a sound machine on amazon (the marpac) because it doesn't have a timer so it won't turn off unless you turn it off. I figure the constant white noise might be helpful. @mrskc: I seriously hope it goes away. I already told DH that whenever we get around to DTD, my shirt is staying ON--no contact on the nips!

    @Beehive: welcome! What's your son's name (if you feel comfortable sharing )? yay for more Oct mamas!

    Has anyone had their LO's poops become more yucky smelling? LO's poops had been smelling pretty sweet (which I've heard is typical for an EBF baby). But the last few poops have definitely been smellier--not sure if it's something I ate?

    I'm sorry so many of you are still having pain with BFing. I hope it gets better for u ladies!

    @Running Elley: how long did his growth spurt last? Alex just turned 6 weeks today but no sign of a growth spurt yet. Although his sleep seems to be getting worse over the last couple of days.

    @Beehive: welcome! Congrats on your baby boy!

    I feel Ike night time feedings are getting worse. He's waking up more and taking longer to get back to sleep. I don't know how to change it. What is your night feeding routine? Are you ladies able to get your babies back to sleep quickly? Any tricks I can try?

  34. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

    @mrskc: I think we are really lucky in that Leo falls right back asleep at night after he eats...I usually feed him on one side, change his diaper, re-swaddle him, and offer the other side. At that point he's usually either half asleep or fully asleep so I put him down in his crib and turn the white noise machine on. So no real tricks, I guess Sorry! I also try not to talk to him or get him at all stimulated at night so he doesn't wake up any more than necessary.

  35. mrskc

    bananas / 9357 posts

    @hilsy85: I'm jealous! My DH gets AJ, changes his diaper then brings him to me to feed. By the time I get him, he's wide awake. I nurse him with the side lying position. He used to just fall asleep while nursing. Lately he's just been chugging for 3-4 min then pops off and just seems uncomfortable and is wide awake. It takes us a good 30 min to 1 hour to get him back to sleep. Maybe I need to try to get to him sooner before he gets too hungry? I'm just so tired and don't want to get out of bed! I need to try something different.

  36. hilsy85

    squash / 13764 posts

    @mrskc: hmm...Leo actually does something similar where he pops off after a few minutes of nursing (which is so annoying because each latch on hurts!) but he ends up pretty drowsy by the time we're finished. It totally sucks getting out of warm bed and going into his room, but he has a rocking chair in there, and some rocks in that usually help calm him if he is more awake. Does he take a paci? Maybe that would help soothe him back to sleep? Or maybe he needs to burp?

  37. Running Elley

    coconut / 8681 posts

    @hilsy85: lol regarding DTD. The only time my bra is off is in the shower... And I'd keep it on then too if I could!
    @mrskc: His growth spurt lasted 3 days and they were rough!! His sleep was really bad.. He's all of a sudden take forever to get down and he had previously had a stretch of sleep that was 5-6 hours at night and that disappeared. The longest he went without having to eat was 3 hours. Now that it's over he's gone back to sleeping longer stretches but the sleep has redistributed itself throughout the day. I'm sorry that your night have been so bad! Elliot always goes back down pretty easily in the middle of the night. Our biggest challenge is getting him to go down in his crib for the first bedtime.
    @Beehive: Welcome! Your son was born on my EDD

    @Beehive: Added you, and added you to the group!! Can share more there if you want the privacy!

    @mrskc: C is in 3 months (Carter's size) mostly, everything else varies! She was 25" at our appt Wednesday.

    I don't know if a lot of the outfits she has for Christmas will fit!

    Thanks ladies for the bottle help! I pumped 4 oz by hand into a bottle and into the freezer today, took 10 mins, unreal! I am going to try to get like 10 of those done in the next two weeks or so, and that will buy me some "out" time! DH and I are going to Under Armour friends and family sale together Wednesday and then going out for dinner! Then have a date afternoon and dinner planned for Dec 9th, pumped!!

    @hilsy85:
    @TurtleDoves:
    I have Lansinoh (sp?) Lanolin before I go in the shower, and it is ahhh mazing to be able to "face" the water! Toweling dry I have to be careful, but it helps so much just with the water against them!

    @Beehive: Welcome!!! Got you all added

    LO's sleep sched has been wonky! I thought we has 3 nights of awesomeness, and "schedule" and then Friday woke 7am, and didn't do more than a 20 minutes catnap until TWO AM! OMG, what an awful day that was. So the schedule was out the window, we'll see what I can do this week! I definitely feel like we are in more of a "pattern" in terms of what we do daily, which feels good....but there's lots of flexibility on the time, so I won't call it a schedule!

    We had our fourth baby shower today, and are now done. Feeling very spoiled. Have $500 or so in BRU giftcards, so need to look at registry and sort wants/needs and see what we should buy, C doesn't need anyone buying her clothes for the next year.

    I too am having the shower and towel drying issue with the sore nips. I'm hoping it goes away soon. It seems Claire has a shallow latch and always will. We tried the reclining position and that seemed to work really well for a day or 2. Then, she figured out how to make it shallow and she has started to not open her mouth to latch on. Instead she chooses to suck my nipple in, so it's not going in as deep...leading to constant lipstick nipples. She is 4 weeks today and I'm going to try to make it to 8 weeks with this combo of pumping and breastfeeding. @mrskc: Claire has been staying awake as well. She usually goes 4 1/2 hours, we change her, she eats, and then she just wants to hang out the rest of the night. Fortunately she doesn't scream, but she grunts and babbles for a solid 2 hours. Of course, she always falls back to sleep around 6:30 -7, when DH has to go to work and I have a prayer of getting a shower that day.

    Thank you! I just posted the baby's name and a photo on the Facebook group. It is so nice to have a group of mothers on here figuring everything out together.

    @hilsy85:
    @TurtleDoves:
    I second the Lansinoh in the shower - it really helps. I haven't used it for the past couple days though, and they have been a bit less sensitive, so maybe things are getting a little better?

    J is latching perfectly on the left side (there is no pain at all now), but it still hurts at first when he latches on the right side - I think I have the "lipstick nipple" problem, but I can't figure out what is different about his latch on that side compared with the good side! I may need to get a lactation consultant in, but I have been trying to sort this out on my own first. Does anyone else have this problem still?

    J has been napping on me for the past few hours. I hate to encourage bad habits, but it has been nice and I've been able to get a lot done on my laptop with the baby on my shoulder or on the boppy. I've been loathe to move him to his bassinet to nap - he'll probably wake up and start crying!
