@Mrsk: yay, fabulous numbers honey. I'm so glad for you. How many weeks would you be now do you think?
@megan: ugh I feel your pain, I made it to 6 wks 4 days then started to feel really nauseous. In the morning the only thing I can stomach is dry toast with honey. Yum.
Nice to feel like its finally real but I am starting to struggle at work all day.

@Mrs tartan: I think I'm 4w6d. So early! Sorry. The morning sickness is setting in for you, but glad it's feeling real. Keep us posted on when you tell your parents!

Well add me to the official morning sickness crew. I woke up this morning and had to pee so badly it hurt- it was like it was combining with the round ligament pain to create misery. As soon as my bladder was half empty I felt like I had noro virus again. I felt a little better after throwing up but I am still feeling lousy.
I have been crazy anxious about whether things are going right with my pregnancy since I was spotting and having some cramps so my old gyn had me come in for an appointment yesterday and said my cervix is closed and she did an ultrasound and said everything looks just right. No heartbeat yet but I think best case scenario I am only 5w5d as of today and I may only be 5w2d. She was really insistent that no matter when I ovulated my LMP is the best way to get an accurate due date (which makes zero sense). In my crazy state I decided to grab the clear blue test with the weeks predictor. It was a waste of $15 though because it said 3 weeks + and it doesn't go any higher than that. I think I expected it to say 2-3 weeks and them for me to be able to take another one this weekend and see the 3+.

@Cole: today was also my first official day of throwing up. I am gutted, I thought I was going to get lucky.
How many weeks are you today? I'm so glad you told me that 3+ is the highest the clear blue days, as I was getting really tempted to buy another one to see what it said.

@Mrsk: I will do, my DH is working away from home until the weekend so I will prob tell them this weekend. If I can peel myself off the sofa or bathroom floor for long enough. Haha.

@Cole: @Mrs tartan: So sorry you ladies are so sick! I've been lucky to only have had waves of nausea so far which was the same for my other pregnancies. I am extremely tired though, and LO is having a heck of a time sleeping the past few days so I feel like a walking zombie. Ugh.
Question: what type of prenatal vitamin is everyone taking? Are you taking one with DHA or supplementing? I had been taking one with DHA throughout my last pregnancy and while breastfeeding, but it's making me nauseous this time so I switched to one without DHA. I have the supplements but can't remember if my OB said I have to take it or not.... any thoughts?
kiwi / 656 posts
@bushelandapeck: I've been taking 400mg folic acid and a vitamin c plus calcium tablet each day. This is exactly what my doc told me to take. The vit c tablet is huge, it makes me gag swallowing it even when it's cut in half!
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Mrs tartan: interesting. I am taking calcium just because I am allergic to dairy and therefore not consuming enough calcium each day. I thought for some reason the DHA was a recommendation but I can't remember! I guess I'll keep taking it until my appointment on the 24th.
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@Mrs tartan: I am not sure which day I ovulated so I am either 5 weeks 5 days or 5 weeks 2 days. On my ultrasound yesterday though she saw a fetal pole though so based on my googling it looks like it is more likely 5w5d. The mm nausea before today was almost cute- like a sweet little reminder that I am in fact pregnant. The feeling as of today- not amusing at all!
@bushelandapeck: That stinks your lo is adding to the sleeplessness. I hope all of you are able to catch up soon on sleep. I am taking the new chapter perfect prenatal. It doesn't have dha though so I need to get some. My doctor didn't say anything about it yesterday but one of the midwives recommended I take it so maybe the jury is still out? It was also suggested that I suppliment vitamin d though because more and more studies are showing it to be another critical one during the prenatal period. Does anyone have a not fishy tasting and not huge dha recommendation? I looked at my prenatal vitamins today and put them back on the shelf, hopefully tonight I will feel better and can take it then...
grapefruit / 4649 posts
@Mrs tartan: Can you go get a chewable vitamin C? Or trader joes has one that isn't huge. Even if you have to take a few to get the right dose it sounds better that gagging that down.
pomelo / 5720 posts
@Cole: I bought the Target brand DHA supplement and it's not too bad. I take it later in the day from my prenatal though because I worry about it adding to the nausea. I think that might be what was making me nauseous with my other prenatal. I hadn't heard that about VitD but will be sure to ask. Isn't there 100% in the prenatal?

Last night I decided to skip my prenatal. I take this one: http://www.naturemade.com/products/multivitamins/prenatal-dha-liquid-softgel
I decided to skip it because I've been having to leave work early the past two weeks to lay down, and it is getting ridiculous. I suspect the iron and folic acid in the vitamin of making me feel ill, mostly based on what I've read online.
Guess what. This morning I do not have to eat crackers to survive. It's a start! I will try skipping my vitamin again to see if the effects continue, then calling my doctor about other options for the important stuff that I need.
@Tidybee: Your doctor sounds like a dick. Is there any way you can talk to him about his bedside manner? Or see a different provider for the next ultrasound?
apricot / 287 posts
All this talk about vitamins and supplements has got me thinking, I'm hoping I hear back from the midwives soon so I can ask all my questions, I don't eat any fish or seafood, so I'm wondering if DHA and the omega 3 and 6 need to be added to my vitamins. I'm taking a prenatal, and I take it right before bed, so far so good, but I haven't had any morning sickness at all yet.
Don't you ladies find it interesting how the advice on vitamins and supplements can be so different doctor to doctor and country to country! Really makes you take the advice of the medical profession with a grain of salt!

@mrskoloa: have you told work you are pregnant? How are they taking you leaving early? Today I threw up at work and felt so terrible that I asked to go home, I said that I think I might have food poisoning. I don't know if anyone suspects anything, I felt so crappy that I didn't care.
@Cole: oh yes I remember the nausea being cute. That feels like a long time ago now, and it's only 4 days since then! Ill look into buying a new kind of vit c, I stupidly bought 6 months worth before seeing how huge they were. But I might just accept that loss as I can't bear to take them.
It is funny how we get different information, i think I'll do some research. Most important to us was that I took folic acid for months before ttc and in early pregnancy as it can prevent spina bifida and DH brother passed away at birth 35 years ago due to SB. Vitamin d is the one I'm confused about. Perhaps ill switch to an all in one, if they make such a thing.
kiwi / 656 posts
I'm lying I just looked and it is a vit d plus calcium tablet, not a vit c! Pregnancy brain

@mrsk I also don't eat fish. I am taking a dha made from algae. No fishy taste and all the same benefits. I can't recall the brand but I can let you know when I get home of you are interested.

@Mrs tartan: I told my office mates and my supervisor. Now that I'm out of the classroom, I have to opportunity to build up flex time whenever I work overtime, so I've been using those hours whenever all of my meetings for the day are done rather than go back to the office. But I was using so many lately that I felt I needed to tell my supervisor. However, all three colleagues have been asked to keep it a secret. Unfortunately my habits are becoming a little noticeable. See conversation between another colleague and myself via text below

@mrskoloa: That was what was happening to me. I ended up switching to Rainbow Light Prenatals and they have been totally fine! I'm convinced it's the DHA for me.

I am still keeping my appointment for tomorrow on this list as I'm in denial that it is not likely to happen due to snow. I have skype dates set up with both my parents and the in laws this weekend when we were planning on telling them that I REALLY don't want to try to awkwardly reschedule. Ah well. Cross your fingers for me ladies!

EDD: October 14th (according to the online trackers)
When Did You Find Out?: Yesterday! I'm still in a bit of shock. We weren't trying, so this definitely came as a surprise. I had a little spotting last week, so I tested with expired tests (all I had at home), but I didn't believe the positive results. But once the weekend came and went without AF, I figured it was time to buy a new test. Turns out I'm actually pregnant!
Child Number: #3
Where You Live: north of Boston, MA
What kind of provider will you see?: Same Ob as last time.
When's Your First Appointment?: mid-March…I just called the doc today to schedule an appointment to "confirm the pregnancy" and I guess they don't do that! So now I need to wait until mid-March when I'm 8-10 weeks along.
What kind of birth do you want?: not sure. I've had two c-sections so far, but I'm not sure what I want to do this time around.
What You're Most Excited For: hearing the heartbeat for the first time - that makes everything real.
What You're Most Scared About: stretchmarks. I know it's vain, but I've survived two pregnancies virtually stretchmark-free, so I'm thinking I won't be as lucky this time around.
Symptoms so far: sore breasts and total exhaustion. I am just soooo tired all the time!
I'm using my husbands laptop, so no photo to share right now. I'll post something later. Congrats everyone!

@bunnylovesbear: @Mrs.Panda: Whoo hoo! Congrats to both of you, and welcome! How exciting to see so many new October Mamas!
Well, we've woken up here in the Mid-Atlantic to almost a foot of snow, so I've got a snow day! Good for sitting on the couch and watching movies, and not much else. The cat thinks that couch time is a good idea as well, and has been fighting my laptop for prime lap space.
Anyone else have pets who have been acting a little differently? My youngest cat usually wants to be near me, but she's always been cool with sitting next to me. In the past few weeks, she's GOT to be on top of me, regardless of what I'm doing. She's also started licking and nibbling my fingers, almost the way a dog does! I'm wondering if this is because my current hormones make me smell differently?

So the ultrasound is a no go today but hopefully it'll happen tomorrow instead so that we don't have to put off telling the grandparents this weekend.

@mrskoloa: The never-ending winter is just that...never-ending! I'm a school teacher, and we're on our FOURTH snow day of the season today. While I'm going to be cursing the snow come June, I was very happy to reset my alarm this morning and sleep in.
Thanks for all the congrats. My husband and I are still in a state of shock...we're excited, but super surprised! It took us 6 months to get pregnant last time around, and we weren't planning to start "trying" until April/May. We weren't NOT trying either, and I always said, if it happens, it happens. So, it happened! Lol!
I called my ob to schedule and appt to confirm the pregnancy, but they said they don't do that. Kinda weird bc I remember getting a blood test done with my son in 2012...I might just go to a walk-in or something. They also said I'm not guaranteed an ultrasound at my first appointment...I asked them to put a note on my records that I would like one done, if possible. So fingers crossed, they allow it! That is what makes everything real for me!

@however briefly: bummer that it was cancelled but great that they could reschedule it for tomorrow!
@Mrs tartan: I'm feeling, eh. Sooooo exhausted and having waves of nausea all day. No throwing up though, thank goodness. I'm 33 and DH is 35. This was our first cycle post miscarriage so I guess we were only trying for a month. We got pregnant with LO, our miscarriage, and this time all on the first try. I'm apparently very fertile. Lol.

EDD: October 23rd based on lmp
When Did You Find Out?: yesterday! (Feb. 12)
Child Number: #3 ahhhhh
Where You Live: Rathdrum Idaho
What kind of provider will you see?: midwife
When's Your First Appointment?: don't have one yet, won't be until April probably since my midwife doesn't see people until 12 weeks typically.
What kind of birth do you want?: natural water birth is my ultimate goal. If anything I am just hoping for my vbac!
What You're Most Excited For: basically everything except ms and fatigue.
What You're Most Scared About: I am scared of the posibility of having another c-section.
Symptoms so far: sensitive boobies, tired, waves of nausea and gas.
Post a picture... any picture!

@bushelandapeck: The doctor is actually off tomorrow but my sister called their sister clinic on the other side of the city and is able to be seen there instead. Next week is really busy for her at work and she just wanted to hear that heartbeat and get released by the RE to make the first ob/gyn appt. I'm definitely not complaining! DH and I are planning on making a silly little video tomorrow to send to the grandparents as our announcement before we skype with them this weekend.
