@Mrs.Panda: that's crazy, baby looks a lot bigger! Although they are doubling in size every week this early I guess!

@mrskoloa: yay, can't wait to see your scan pic as you are closest to me due date wise so think I could pretend its my scan too. Haha. We are looking to book a sun holiday the first week of June, Europe for us too but just as that's like a 3 hour or less flight for us. Some airlines here are funny about flying pregnant women after 28 weeks so will be our last real chance.

So according to the app on my phone my baby is plum size and keep looking at plums thinking I'm already scared to push something that size out! Haha.

@mrskoloa: we are on vacation this week (in FL) but I do hope to take a few small trips this summer before the baby comes. We have a lake house we spend most of our spareribs at during the summer, so we don't typically go far in the warm months. Europe would be amazing!

Eta: spare time, not spare ribs

@cyndistar3: @Mrs tartan: @Mrs.Panda: Thank you! I was surprised to see how baby-like the scan was! I don't remember it being so clear at my son's first scan about two years ago!

@mrskoloa: We have a friend getting married over the summer, so we're spending a week at Lake Winnipesaukee in August. Not exactly a "tropical" vaca as it's in NH, but at least we'll get away before it's baby-time.

@bushelandapeck: Ha! spareribs! Gotta love autocorrect.

I had my first ultrasound yesterday and I'm measuring ahead! Instead of 7w2d, it showed I was 8w1d. My doctor wants to keep my due date at Oct. 30 since its less than a week, but the computer shows the due date as Oct. 24.

@Mrs.Panda: Try Kauai! If you need any recommendations for this island, or Oahu, let me know.

@Mrs tartan: Any destination in particular? I know you mentioned that you guys went somewhere a few weeks ago... do you have any favorites? This would be my first time to Europe (we usually travel around the Pacific) and I want to keep it simple... London, Paris, Rome, and Barcelona maybe.

@bushelandapeck: A lake house with spare ribs AND spare time sounds amazing! I would love a house on the water.

@bunnylovesbear: I think ANY getaway before the baby comes will be much enjoyed. Who knows when it will just be the two of us/you again?

@Becksabee: Due dates are so fickle anyway... I mean, aren't they hardly accurate when it comes down to it? I am just hoping for October in general.

Sorry I've sucked about updating and keeping updated on everyone else I'm lame. The pregnancy is pretty much going fine. I'm sick and throwing up, but not anywhere near as much as with my first pregnancy. I need to get my Zofran back because the pharmacy gave me some generic version that you have to swallow instead of letting it dissolve on your tongue, so it doesn't work as fast, and swallowing it makes my gag reflex kick in when I already feel like puking. I'm still tired, but nowhere near as much as I was a month ago.

We did announce our pregnancy to everyone, which was exciting, although we got a few comments I was sort of expecting about how crazy we are for having kids close together. My SIL is due in September, when her son will be almost 4, and some relatives have been telling her, "Oh, I think it's great you guys waited awhile between kids! Your son is really old enough to appreciate a baby, and it will be better." And they say this on FB where I can see it too, so that's quite annoying, but I just laugh since these family members clearly don't know her son, my nephew, very well at all - he is not excited about the baby and actually likes to push/hit/bite babies and throw things at others when he has to share or is just in a bad mood. So it amuses me that apparently according to these relatives she's doing it right and I'm not - not that it's any of their business anyways, they won't be the one taking care of two under two, I will!

I still just kind of just suck at being pregnant. During my first pregnancy I feared that I was missing maternal instincts or something because I just HATED being pregnant, never felt connected with the baby even once he was kicking and we knew it was a boy, etc. This time around I guess I've just accepted that's how I am during pregnancy, and I just have to push through it to get to October, when I will be ecstatic to be able to actually hold and interact with my baby, and not be pregnant anymore!

@mrskoloa: @bushelandapeck: Ooh, jealous of the Florida vacay, and very jealous of the possible trip to Europe! I'm trying to convince DH that we need to take a short beach trip somewhere, but I'm not having a ton of luck - money's kind of tight with me as a SAHM. He wants to use all of our tax return on paying extra on our mortgage, and I want to set some aside to take my parents up on their offer to watch L for a few days while we go somewhere. We'll see who wins! I'd love to go somewhere tropical, but would settle for anywhere with a beach. Or Disney World - I'm a Disney nut!

@wonderstruck: oh you definitely nee a getaway before LO#2 arrives! I'm hoping DH and I can go away for our anniversary in August without LO for a night or two. I have only been away from him two nights ever and I know it will be that mch harder when we have two!
@bunnylovesbear: a week on Winni will be lovely! Especially in the summer That's where we got married!
@Becksabee: yay for a good ultrasound and for measuring ahead a bit! I measured ahead with DS and went into labor exactly on his due date!
@mrskoloa: we are very lucky. What we both wouldn't give to go back to Hawaii for a few weeks though! If only the plane ride wasn't 11+hrs for us

@mrskoloa: what is it you fancy doing? Lots of walking or good transport so you don't need to walk much? I've done London, Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Prague and Barcelona within the past 4 years. Most fave was Prague, least fave was Paris. Loved the sights and romance of Paris but the food was terrible, it was overcrowded and so expensive. I wouldn't go again!
Prague was amazing, beautiful, cheap, food was amazing and nothing like I expected. Barcelona would also be hot and has some beaches so be like a city/beach break.
We are heading to Portugal for our summer hols, sun and beach and nothing else for a week! Yum.

@wonderstruck: aw bless, hope you feel better soon. At least you know the bonding will come later. Since I've not had my scan yet I think it's quite funny that all I love right now is the little roll of fat over my jeans. Lol.

@wonderstruck: I hope you feel better soon. I bought some SeaBands over the weekend and it really helped take the edge off!!!

Everyone's vaca plans sound so relaxing and fun! We're brainstorming but at the moment I feel so crappy that nothing sounds pleasant I do have a wedding in Sedona, AZ in May which will be a nice change from NYC.

    EDD: October 13, 2014

When Did You Find Out?: I found out in January during a freak snowstorm. I live in Alabama, so we don't know how to function in the snow. Plus everyone was at work and school. Tons of people got stranded trying to get home since we don't have snow plows or salt for the roads. I had to abandon my car and walk 2 miles home. My husband was stuck at work until the next day. I actually tested as soon as I got home and found out. But I had to wait to say anything to anyone until the next day when my husband got home!

    Child Number: Our first

    Where You Live: Alabama

What kind of provider will you see?: OBGYN, my state is really behind the times. It's actually illegal for a midwife to assist you to give birth at home here.

When's Your First Appointment?: I went on February 21st.

What kind of birth do you want?: I have to deliver in a hospital because it's my only option in this state. I'm thinking about an unmedicated birth, but I don't know if I could do it.

What You're Most Excited For: Obviously holding my sweet baby! But in the short term, I'm excited to get into the second trimester!

What You're Most Scared About: I feel like I'm never going to get over this morning sickness.

Symptoms so far: Horrible MS. Food aversions. Vomiting.

    Post a picture... any picture!

I'm not sure how to post a picture since I'm new here!

@Mrs tartan: @mrskoloa: I second everything that @Mrs tartan said. I loved Prague WAY more than Paris as well and all the other places were great as well. I am not really a fan of large, crowded cities with lots of tourists but I will honestly say that I ADORE London. Every single trip to London I have taken has made me fall more and more in love with that city. I also would recommend Germany! Germany is by far my favorite place in all of Europe, although I may be a bit biased as I lived there for seven years. But it was seven years of traveling bliss! Berlin is nice and so is Munich but it's the castles and the countryside that won my heart over. I would recommend a river cruise along the Rhine or Mosel rivers over the larger touristy cities any day!

Will update all the charts and whatnot tonight when I have a chance. I just couldn't pass up talking about European traveling as it's one of my most favorite subjects

@however briefly: I do love London too, I guess the only thing about the UK is our unpredictable weather! I'd love to go to Germany too, I think that will be our first trip next year when this LO is also here as not too far on a plane either with a baby. I'm a bit rubbish with boats and cruises so I'd probably have to make do with a city break.

Hi all, sorry I've been terrible at posting- was pretty much exhausted and queasy all month but I think the sick feeling is lessening now so I can catch up.

I had my first appointment on 2/27 (not the 28th as I had thought- I blame pregnancy brain!) and had the first ultrasound. Couldn't see much except a little white blob and was measuring a few days behind. Yesterday hubby and I went for a blood draw and physical exam for me- 10(!) vials of blood for me and just barely 3 for him. The extras were to test for thalassemia, which I'm a carrier for. Got another ultrasound and now Lil Blob is measuring slightly larger so my doctor pushed our NT test up to this Friday rather than the coming Monday.

    So my new info is: EDD- 10/2, 1st appt- 2/27 (u/s), 2nd appt- 3/17 (u/s), NT appt- 3/21.

    And here are our pictures!

@mrs-tartan I'm 10w1d today. Yes,, I'm the lucky one who still has morning sickness. Yay. It's gotten slightly better, but I have to take Zofran still. I only throw up every other day generally now. We've told a lot of people actually. My parents, my grandmother, DH's parents, his 3 siblings, 2 of my aunts, my 3 best friends, DH's best friends. I think that's it. We're making it Facebook official in 2 weeks, so we're trying to tell everyone we need to before then. DH has a big family and we're waiting to tell all of his aunts and uncles the day before we post it to Facebook.

Anyone else showing quite a bit already? I know many of you have been talking about it coming and going but is anyone having a hard time hiding it now? My SM hasn't had many symptoms at all to be honest (her morning sickness literally lasted like four days) except her boobs growing but she can't wear anything form fitting any longer to work because it is SUPER obvious now. This is a photo from today which is 10w5d.

So I go back to the doctor today because of some more bright red bleeding and small clots yesterday/last night. I'm getting really sick of this back and forth stuff and feeling like I can't do anything without worrying I may start bleeding! 8w3d today, last appointment was just on Thursday. This is going to be an expensive pregnancy, I'm sure they'll want to do another ultrasound, which is fine by me. I just want my pregnancy to be normal!

Hey October mamas, I wont be joining you after all. I've been a bit MIA, we were planning a trip to see my brother on the west coast and just got back, lovely time, so nice to tell my brother the great news in person. We got back Sunday and had the first ultra sound yesterday, my dr ordered it seeing as I had had a perviosuly miscarriage, she said it would be good to check sooner rather than later. I was 9w4d. Well there is nothing growing in there, there was a gestational sack and something that looked like a blob, but no heart beat, and no blood blood to it, the pregnancy wasn't viable. It must have stopped developing weeks ago, although I have been having the same symptoms all along. I met with a dr after and they prefer you to try medication to induce miscarriage, if after 5 days it doesn't happen then I have a d&c. Thankfully the dr wrote me a note to be off work for a week and gave me something to help me sleep. I'm in shock, I cried a lot yesterday but today seem to be distracting myself by binge watching tv. I'm sorry to have to post such crappy news, this kind of stuff is such a downer on such a happy thread, but I wanted to share and ask myself to be removed from the calendar, (which is so lovely btw). I'm not really sure where to go from here, I can't even begin to imagine going back to ttc, for the third time now, it just seems to daunting. Best wishes to you all!

@cmbknyc: We move at the end of next month. Seems like an awful long time until then but we are already shipping my car on Monday! It's happening so quickly!

We will be announcing on facebook (the only social media we both participate in) at 12 weeks (in 9 days) but that's mainly because we live so far away from all our family and friends that that is the main way we keep up with each others' lives. If we never moved away and didn't now have friends scattered across the entire globe, we'd probably hold off on announcing to acquaintances on social media as well.

We got the results from the genetic testing back. Somehow, my SM is not a carrier for anything the tests tested for! I figured we'd have to somehow end up getting DH tested to make sure they didn't have any carrier statuses that overlapped but that negative across the board was such an amazing relief!

I still haven't gotten my hands on any ultrasound pictures yet but I have three different appointments (weeks 5, 8, and 9, I think) coming my way in the mail and I'm excited. I'll share when I get a chance to scan them although they will be very much behind everyone else. There are so many great ultrasound images on this thread now! So cool!

I totally watched the movie Hours last night and even though it was a surprisingly subtle movie (I was really worried it would get the usual "hollywood" over-dramatization treatment) and very good, it utterly DESTROYED me. So now I know I have to avoid anything that has a baby's life in the balance even if it turns out okay. I'm still a mess. So yeah, I'm sure you're all much smarter than me and wouldn't consider watching it while pregnant but just in case. Totally don't. Well, unless you like to be a sobbing mess.

@Mrs tartan: Even driving along either river is worth it. There are so many castles to stop at and you can actually stay the night in some of them as well.

Don't think about having to go back to ttcing yet, just get yourself healthy and happy first. Look after yourself honey.

@however briefly: wait until you see the bump I'm trying to hide at 12+weeks, I can't believe I've still got another week to go until scan and I can wear my nornal clothes again. @Mrs tartan: @however briefly: Thanks for your thoughts on different places in Europe! Unfortunately, we just found out that the house we've built (with our own hands!) lies six-and-a-half feet outside of the conveyance shadow of the floodway that apparently our property lies on. Now we have to pay for a no-rise certification in order to keep our brand new house from being condemned. Irritating! Pending the costs of the cert., we'll see if we can still afford to go to Europe AND begin purchasing all things "baby." Is anyone else eyeing out strollers that are about $600 too expensive?

I went to a party Sunday night, and it was "Vegas" themed so everyone had to dress up. I wore a red dress from Express (this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-EXPRESS-98-RED-STRAPLESS-CORSET-DRESS-SZ-6-/111301009541?pt=US_CSA_WC_Dresses&hash=item19ea0ea085) and it did a little bit to hide my little belly, but as the night wore on I think I began showing a bit more. I seem to bloat up at night, in general. I drank lots of coca cola and told people it was rum and coke, or crown and coke... I'll probably get a few "wait a minute!"s on Wednesday when we announce via social media (post appointment, of course!). Who knows, I might even get a few "I thought you were looking a little bigger...." or even "yeah, I noticed your skin wasn't looking its best..." hahaha! I'm preparing for the worst.

Surprisingly, I've been kind of zen so far. I think I'm just too tired to get too upset about things. I usually am like a firecracker; quick to jump up and speak my mind... but not so much lately. A dog at the dog park bit my dog on the back (deep enough to take her to the vet), and instead of chewing the owner out (pun intended), I simply asked if her dog was hurt and expressed relief that injuries were minimal. ZEN. My husband thinks I'm like a ticking time-bomb, and one day all of my normal whippersnappishness will explode all over the place.

    We'll see.

@Mrs.ThinMint: Welcome and congrats! I hope that you start feeling better soon!

@Jasmine Green: Wow! What an amazing difference between the two scans! That last scan looks so big!

@Mrs tartan: That's so adorable! I can see why you're going to have trouble hiding that much longer!

@mrskoloa: Wow, I hope your pup is ok! That sounds like a scary incident!

Things have been good over here, but it feels like I'm now starting to spend ridiculous amounts of time at the doctor's office! The Mr and I went today for genetic counseling, which they require prior to getting the cell free fetal DNA testing. It was a pretty short appt, as the Mr and I don't have any risk factors except for my age. So we decided to go for the blood test, I think the one we're going with is called the Harmony test, and we should get the results back in 10-14 days!

Since the Harmony test doesn't screen for any anatomical markers, they also are having me do a Nuchal Translucency scan, which will happen April 4th. Which is two days after my monthly OB appointment!

I'm almost feeling like work is going to know that something is up, given all of the time I'm spending out for doctor's appointments! But I'm not going to say anything until at least 13-14 weeks- I think I can hide it that long, as I just look pudgy, and this time of year, I wear lots of cardigans and scarves, which are good at concealing my first trimester bloat!

@Mrs.ThinMint: welcome! I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and still suffering from evening sickness... I feel better the last few days and hope it continues to improve for all of us!

@however briefly: I'm not showing much during the day, bigger for me, but nothing noticeable to others. By the evening, whoa! I feel like a totally different person with my belly. Haha. I knew I would show sooner since it's my third pregnant, but I was thinking it would still be another few weeks.

@Mrsk: I'm so sorry to hear this.... I am sending you lots of hugs and good thoughts. I took the medication in November for my miscarriage so please feel free to message me if you ever want to talk....

@Mrs tartan: no boobs here either. WTH. mine didn't get bigger until I started nursing though, then look out!! Haha.

@Ms.Pumpkin: will you find out the gender as well? I think that test tells you as early as 10 weeks.

Can you all believe we are *almost* in the second trimester already?!?! I can't remember exactly when it starts, but I think I went with 13 weeks last time.

  37. Ms.Pumpkin

    apricot / 435 posts

@bushelandapeck: You know, we were just talking about that!

I think that we had just assumed that we would find out the sex when we did this test, but just over dinner, the Mr. was like, "well, maybe we shouldn't?" So now we're going to think about it for a few days, and discuss then! Aaaaarrghh!

If he really wants to wait, then I'll probably do my best to be Team Green, even though I always thought I'd find out before. Or, we could decide to wait for the anatomy scan as well, so there's a third option as well, apparently! But I don't know that he has super strong feelings one way or the other, so we'll see.

Edited to add: Forget about it. He has just sacrificed some of his bargaining power, as he spent the last 10 minutes searching for a French version of "What does the Fox say?" to play to his class (he's a HS French teacher), and now he's gotten the song stuck in my head. Even after I warned him that would happen. Ugh. Will be singing "Que dit le renard?" for the rest of the evening.

    @MrsK: sorry for your loss

No bump in the morning, but by evening I'm not fitting onto my pants - but the boobs are a full size bigger (and they weren't small to start with). No weight gain though, which makes no sense to me.

So I had my appointment today - we were just supposed to hear the heartbeat but they couldn't find it so they sent me for a trans-v ultrasound instead. Hello freak out! Fortunately, they got a clear look at the baby and said all was well, they just couldn't get the heartbeat because my uterus is really tipped. (Sorry no pics yet!) The only thing worrying me now is that I went in thinking I was 9w6d, and the baby measured 8w4d today - that seems like a big change to me. Anyone have that much difference come up? To be honest, I'm also annoyed that I have an extra week of awful nausea before I can tell people, lol!

@However Briefly We're team Green! And I felt like today I was totally showing a bit, or just horrifically bloated, but I kept putting my hand on my stomach hoping it would settle down. Also I bought a belly band and I feel like that actually makes it a bit worse because it makes it suspiciously smooth over your stomach.

@mrsk I'm so sorry. I hope this process goes as painlessly and smoothly as possible. Just remember that however you feel is okay and please take good care of yourself.
