@ottilie: So sorry to hear about the BP and additional monitoring but I'm glad things are okay! Yes, we do get weighted her at each appointment and it's the part I dread the most. Ugh. I wish our system was like yours!

@Mrs.Panda: lots of BH over here, starting around 20 weeks I think? I have them several times a day but more often when I need to pee or haven't had enough to drink, ironically.

@bunnylovesbear: glad your appointment went well and there was no change in your cervix!

Nothing to report over here. DS has a fever so we've been laying low and giving him lots of snuggles. I visited a friend with a two month old on Friday and I was surprised how much I had forgotten about just how small and delicate they are at that age. It was difficult to hold her and try to entertain/manage my toddler though, so I'm even more nervous now about how it's going to be when she's here! I know we will manage but it's not going to be easy.

So, I have a friend that is a professional photographer and she is wanting to use me for a maternity model to work on building that part of her portfolio on the 29th and I am pretty excited but I am kind of worried about just looking fat what do I wear?? I have never done maternity photos before!

@mrskoloa: Yikes! Those were some fighting words, eh? Sports sometimes make people say ridiculous things!!

@bushelandapeck: Same issues going on with Johnny. He's been running a low temp, runny nose, and cough. No idea how he managed to catch a cold in the middle of the summer, but he's starting to feel better. The temp only lasted a couple days, thankfully...although the crankiness is still going strong. Lol.

@cyndistar3: Exciting!! I'm getting maternity photos done with this pregnancy, too! It's a free mini-session that came with the newborn session I booked. I bought some long, flowy maxi dresses to wear for the shoot, but I'm a little anxious about it. The last time I had professional pics taken of myself were probably my senior pics in high school!! We obviously had engagement photos and wedding photos taken, but all the attention wasn't on just me. Lol.

@bunnylovesbear: How many weeks will you be when you get yours done? I will be almost 28, for my own personal reasons I would rather have them done I would have rather waited till my bump was a little bigger but I guess I'm pretty big as it is so I'm sure we will make it work lol! I asked her what to wear and I guess she is planning on making a special wrap dress for the shoot, I guess it is a "stylized photo shoot" and she will have a hair dresser and make up artist there! I also haven't had pictures of just me since my senior pictures so I'm a bit nervous!

  5. bunnylovesbear

    kiwi / 600 posts

@cyndistar3: oh wow! a makeup artist and hairdresser!! Now I'm jealous...lol. My shoot is tentatively scheduled for the end of August, so I think I'll be somewhere between 32-33 weeks along. My photographer said she has some wrap dresses, too...not sure how I feel about wearing them, though. Lol.

  6. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

@bunnylovesbear: Yea this is for her to expand her creative boundaries and in exchange for me being her model I will get all of the images she creates I don't know what to think about the wrap dress but hey, for free pics why not?

@ottilie: in the UK we start getting weighed at 34 weeks, although I have been asking to get weighed at each appointment so I can keep track.
@bunnylovesbear: so glad there was no change in your cervix and all is going well.

I'm 29 weeks today, no real news with me which I guess is good news. Had my whooping cough injection today and repeat full bloods taken. I'm up around 16 pounds, baby measuring perfect.
Baby's movements have really changed into massive thumps now, it makes me jump, keeps me awake at night and can fully see my whole belly move when s/he moves. I can't lie on my belly to sleep anymore boo. Lots of braxton hicks too, got such a fright the first day about a week ago, thought it was labour!
Next appointment is 32 weeks, so another quiet 3 weeks ahead.

I wonder how everyone else is that hasn't checked in for weeks/months, I hope everyone is ok!

  9. ottilie

    cherry / 143 posts

@mrs tartan, I had no idea, that is good to know! It didn't really occur to me to ask them to do it when I saw the midwife, but that is probably a sensible approach. Oh, well.

I'm 27+4 today and baby is head down (I know he could still move around a lot) and moving ALL the time. My husband has started to get a bit freaked out about how strong the kicks/movement are, and last night it actually kept me up for a while. I tried to roll onto my stomach, too, last night, and while it wasn't actually uncomfortable, the baby started kicking a lot so I decided it probably wasn't comfortable for him.

I haven't had any braxton hicks yet, and generally feel pretty good, although I am reaching the point where bending over is a little weird/uncomfortable...like, oh, there's something in my way.

@MrsTartan: Sorry, I'm one of the ones who hasn't checked in! I'm still here, 27 weeks tomorrow. Still dealing with gallbladder stuff, so mostly having to lay low and eat extremely boring food. I'm pretty much ready for this whole pregnancy thing to just be over so I can meet my girl and get rid of my stupid gallbladder! I am pretty excited to finally "look" pregnant - up until about 2 weeks ago I could have just gained a bunch of weight but now it is so clear, which makes me feel much better

Here's a question for everyone: anyone have any good pregnancy safe acne remedies? I'm STILL breaking out all over my back and neck and I'm dying to do something about it!

    (edited for pregnancy brain grammar!)

  11. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Rocker2014: I had a lot of trouble with acne when I was pregnant with my son. I used Cetaphil daily and salic acid on my face at night. Both helped quite a bit but it didn't completely go away until DS was born. Interestingly, I haven't had any issues this time around and am pregnant with a girl. Sorry yor gallbladder is still giving you troubles!!

@cyndistar3: I'll be 29.5 weeks for my maternity pics. I look pretty pregnant already but I would've liked to have done them a few weeks later but we are doing them at the same time as my DS 2yr pics.

  12. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

@Rocker2014: I've been using natural facial cleaners like from Burts Bees and Say Yes To Carrots. I try to do a scrub and a cran chamber because I know they say salicylic acid is a no no firing pregnancy. I've been lucky to only get a few break outs here and there but I've always had good skin in terms of acne. The trade off is I'm super prone to stretch marks. Dove beauty bars work great for me too.

Anyone else getting stretch marks yet? I have some tiny new ones starting to develop that looks like itty bitty tick marks. Like I said above though I'm genetically disposed to get stretch marks, puberty was not kind to me on that front!

  13. Mrs tartan

    kiwi / 656 posts

@Rocker2014: so sorry to hear you are still suffering. Hugs. I've also been getting breakouts since the start, nothing id bought had worked but now I've figured out if I use nothing on my skin then I'm not breaking out. I still wear make up in the day, wash off with soap and water then nothing else. I used to use cleansers and moisturisers and all sorts, but my skin does not agree in pregnancy. All I'm using to reduce existing spots is a dab of toothpaste at nights.
@Mrs.Panda: I've made it to 29+1 without any yet, however I'm also prone to them so I know it won't be long. I'm slathered in bio oil twice a day to keep the colour of the strechmarks as light as possible when they arrive! Are yours currently little dots? Ill need to have a better look tonight, I've been assuming I'm looking for long purple marks.

Talking of strechmarks I have developed a bad habit of checking my belly every morning, I'm normally covered in marks from my pyjamas and duvet covers etc and I spend about an hour waiting for them to fade to make sure I haven't exploded into a road map overnight (I know it's going to happen) ulgh pregnancy has made me a crazy lady!

One great thing I'm happy about - only 6 weeks of work left

@however briefly: are you still around? I've been wondering where you are and how your surrogacy has been going.

I also found an old calendar and wondered if anyone has seen any of these people who aren't often on here, perhaps on other boards and knows if they are ok?

@bushelandapeck: How funny- I think that we had the same names on our lists, but our DHs ended up splitting in opposite directions! I LOVE Josephine/Josie, but DH vetoed it, saying that it reminded him of Napoleon Bonaparte's wife (huh?! I thought it was kind of a silly reason, but what are you going to do? ). The one name we both agreed on was Eloise, and we haven't found anything else we like more, so it looks like she's going to be an Eloise!

@Mrs.Panda: Hoo, boy, yes to the stretch marks! I'm also prone to them, and let's just say I know exactly what you mean when you say that puberty wasn't kind! I've been expecting them, so it's not a massive shock to see them there, although it's kind of a bummer. They're smaller and silvery right now, but I'm sure as I go on, they'll increase!

  16. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: so funny the different advice we get from our doctors...mine said using salicylic acid once daily is fine so long as it's less than 2%. I haven't had to use it really but didn't know it was controversial either!

@Ms.Pumpkin: I do love Eloise! I really wanted Emmeline but SH wasn't a fan. Josephine is one of the only ones we both like so i think we will have to use it! Lol.

Hi all! Its been a while but everything is good on my end, glad to hear many of you are also doing well! My due date got moved up, so I am now 27W 3D and still feeling great. We moved about a month ago, and I have been crazy buys getting us unpacked and settled, so sometimes I definitely feel like I overdid it.
Up 7lbs at my last appointment a week ago and have my glucose test on Monday. Definitely feel the baby moving/kicking, and he gives me acid reflux if I eat pretty much anything (pepcid is my bff), but not too bad. No stretch marks and I am hoping to stave them off by drinking 100+ oz of water/day and basically bathing in Weleda oil. I might break down and buy a body pillow but don't want to crowd the bed too badly. Currently trying to hire my replacement for work (still have 6 weeks left but I WFH so it's not too bad.)mThat's all I can think of for now!

@Mrs tartan: lots of braxton hicks here, too.

@ottilie: haha - yes! I tried putting my socks and sneakers on this morning (opposed to just sliding on a pair of flip flops), and I was like, hmmph, well this is getting difficult!

@Mrs.Panda: yeah, I think I've gotten some additional stretchmarks. It's hard to tell bc I do have some from previous pregnancies....boobs, inner/outer thighs. Nothing on my stomach just yet, so I'm hoping for my belly to survive the third pregnancy!

@Ms.Pumpkin: @bushelandapeck: As I said before, I LOVE Josephine. If it weren't our niece's middle name, I'm positive that would be our top contender for a girl name. I surely hope one of you decide on it!!

@cyndistar3: This link is full of adorable knitted ones. I think the ghost and Mickey Mouse are my fav...not sure how functional they would be for me living in Massachusetts, though. http://www.babble.com/pregnancy/12-irresistible-newborn-halloween-costumes/

And here's a how-to website: http://www.newbornhub.com/baby-halloween-costumes.html I'm liking the baby burrito and strawberry ones best.

I think a pink piggie would be quite adorable, as well.

My son was born on July 31st, and he dressed up as a Bruins player for his first Halloween. My aunt knitted him a pair of hockey skates, a helmet, and hockey pants. Then we had him wear his jersey. It was adorable.

@bunnylovesbear: Oh my goodness those are adorable! However we live in North Idaho so it wouldn't be good for much other than pictures lol. I'm thinking something with a long sleeved onesie thick tights and a tutu but who knows!

@Mrs.Panda I'm getting stretch marks. I've been using Burt's Bees Belly Butter and considering that I haven't been getting really bad ones on my stomach yet (though I'm sure they are coming - I have existing ones from gaining weight before) and I noticed this morning that I have been getting ones on my back where I can't reach with the belly butter, I think it's helping somewhat.

@Rocker2014 I've been using the Oil Cleansing Method for over a year now to keep my skin under control - my preferred blend is olive oil, castor oil, and tea tree oil (which my doc said is probably fine) and I've been using Dr. Brommer's Tea Tree Oil soap as body wash to help with the breakouts on my back and shoulders and those have cleared up. My doctor said it's fine to use it as long as I'm not like, letting it sit on my skin for a long period of time.

@Bushelandapeck We're meeting with a potential doula next week. She's part of a doula network so if something happens and she's not available, they will send a backup. I know on the doula board here they were talking about doulas who suddenly weren't available during labor, so this seems like it would avoid that. I really liked the woman who runs the network and we chatted for awhile so that she knew who to match us with, and the network came highly recommended. We also signed up to take their childbirth class because I liked talking to the head doula so much.

We ordered a crib last week and today my husband put together our changing table. We've gotten rid of our bookshelves and the mattresses that was in the guest room, so we are making definite progress on the nursery.

  25. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Ms.Mermaid: That sounds like a great plan with the doula and having backup. I wish we had that in our situation, but it ended up working out okay anyway. I'm leaning towards not having one this time, and possibly using one postpartum instead.

We are making some progress on our nursery as well. I have the crib and dresser (not put together), bedding on order, new video monitor, rug/pad on order, and plans for new lighting and some built-in shelving. We still need to take the furniture out of the room and will hopefully get to that this weekend.

Anything else exciting happening for anyone??

  26. Mrs.Panda

    nectarine / 2358 posts

We've had our crib put together for a few months actually. We got it on deep discount and I wanted to make sure nothing was wrong with it. Our changing table was from a yard sale so it was pre constructed. I got the crib bedding soon after getting the crib because I'm nuts. And had to get a mattress to put it on oh and a dresser! Also a yard sale. We are still looking for a glider and some other small things but otherwise we're good on the nursery front!

We still have other big things to get though. Car seat, another lighter stroller, a rock and play and swing, diaper pail etc. Slowly but surely!

  27. bushelandapeck

    pomelo / 5720 posts

@Mrs.Panda: awesome! Sounds like you are well on your way to being ready I have zero motivation to put the crib and dresser together...and really no time with DS running around! I could do it when he's asleep but that's when I usually go to bed too! Lol. It will get done, just probably not for a while still.

  28. cyndistar3

    pomegranate / 3980 posts

Lol if it counts for anything our crib has been put together for the last nearly 5 years but is being stored in the garage for now we won't bring it in until we absolutely have to since we don't have a nursery and baby will be rooming with us. We have basically everything we need I just have to start sorting through clothes again to try and get things organized... we have way too many totes of baby clothes all over the place lol!

In other news I am actually starting to gain weight now. My pelvis is still recouping from bowling a couple days ago but at least I get a massage on Thursday that I'm sure will be completely undone on Saturday as I will be chasing around 15-20 kids in the hot sun from 8-3 and then immediately getting in the car to drive an hour to a friends wedding But golly gee I am getting so excited to meet this wee baby!!!

I'm 30 weeks today and today the nursery is finished. Feels so good to close the door on that room and know its done and ready. I've even washed all the newborn clothes and seperated them into their drawers etc. The only thing I have left to buy is some bath products. I've even got 500 nappies, I'm so ridiculously organised. I think it comes from working as a PA, my life would be colour coded and alphabetical if I could make it!

  30. bunnylovesbear

    kiwi / 600 posts

I'm 28 weeks today, and I've been feeling relatively good the past week or so. Everything still absolutely exhausts me, but I haven't been feeling any pressure (like I previously had been), so I'm thinking the progesterone (even though I'm only taking half-doses) is doing its job. Thank goodness. Fingers crossed that I will make it full-term and be allowed to return to work in September to start the school year.

As for the nursery, all we really need to do is set up the crib. We have our two little ones sharing a bedroom, so the only additional furniture we plan to add in there is a second crib. We confirmed with my MIL that she is, indeed, purchasing the crib for us, and I am unbelievably appreciative. However, she wants to wait unit September to order it, which makes me anxious! Lol.

I still need to figure out a clothing storage plan, though...I'm thinking of having my husband install some shelving in the closet, as we don't want to purchase another dresser right now. Although honestly, I'm starting to second-guess that decision...I just don't want to overload their bedroom with too much furniture.

  31. mrskoloa

    cherry / 242 posts

!!! Are we talking nurseries now? We should all post pictures! We've got a few of the bigger things and are waiting until after the baby shower to see what else comes in before we buy anything else. @Mrs tartan: I noticed you said that you had EVERYTHING set up, are baby showers common where you live?

Anyways, here are some things we already have:
a crib with waterproof mattress (yard sale),
    a dresser (yard sale),
Britax B-Agile travel system with B-Safe car seat/base and an extra base (gift from my mom),
rocking chair (gift from my mom),
a pack-n-play (gift from my grandmother),
and a room divider/cubby thing (http://costcocouple.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/Onin-Room-Divider-Costco-1.jpg) that I found at Costco. I have it set up sideways like in the picture, then I plan on installing a closet rod/shelf above it because the baby's room doesn't have a closet in it.

I sewed some things for the baby's room, like blackout curtains, a crib skirt, a teething guard for the crib top, and a changing pad cover (but am impatiently waiting for the baby shower for someone to get me a changing pad so I can see if the cover even fits right!).

My husband currently is using half of the room as storage for all of his fishing supplies and tools, but I am hoping that he removes his crap in the next ten weeks (or less, crazy!). I currently have the rocker in the living room, but am wondering if I should put it in the baby's room because one side of the room seems so empty... then again, we might get some things at the baby shower that will fill up that space as well.

I've been debating about getting a post-partum doula. My husband doesn't think we need one. I won't have any family to help out, and my husband doesn't plan on taking time off from work. However, as a fireman he only works 10, 24-hour days a month. He usually works three days out of every nine days, for example, He'll work Monday, off Tuesday, work Wednesday, off Thursday, work Friday, then off Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, where he'll start the 9-day cycle again. He thinks that because he is off so many days that we'll be ok. Since I've never had a baby before I'm not sure... will I absolutely wish I had someone there with me on those few days that he's gone... for 24 entire hours? Or will I be able to handle those days without him in the beginning? I plan on taking three months off from work.

Has anyone been looking into getting food into the freezer so that cooking is the last thing to worry about after baby comes? I found this inspiring website (http://whoneedsacape.com/2012/11/crockpot-freezer-cooking/), but am, again, having a hard time convincing my husband that it's worth doing. He feels that since he is off so many days, he'll just cook and make sure that I have enough leftovers for the days that he's at work. (He usually cooks anyway.)

We had our first childbirth preparation class last night (four Tuesdays in a row for a couple hours each). Last night was all about pregnancy symptoms and the beginnings of labor, plus effacement/dilation/station information. I think next week we're going to learn about true/false labor, and they have an anesthesiologist coming in to tell us about epidurals and the like. I would LOVE to have a medication-free, vaginal birth, but after talking to some other women who have given birth recently, have decided to go in with no heavy expectations so that I don't experience extreme disappointment and guilt later when the birth doesn't go the way I imagined it (as seems to have been the case with the few women I had talked to). This means that I am open to the idea of getting an epidural, but would like to try my best to give birth without it.

I plan on breastfeeding for at least six months and am wondering what that will be like with pumping later. I think after about a month, I'll start pumping one breast while the baby is feeding off of the other one so that I can start storing breastmilk. I'd also like to have my husband feed the baby with a bottle at least once a day to give him a chance to experience feeding the baby, and to get the baby used to bottle-feeding for when I go back to work.

I have all these ideas but who knows how everything will play out!

I know this was a long and random post, but I am excited to hear everyone is doing well!

Here is our baby's room thus far... As you can see, my husband really likes fishing.

    Hi All,
Just wanted to check in before I head off for a weekend of "camping" with the fam. I say "camping" because there will be no tents involved this year...we're going the cabin-route. In fact, we've gone the cabin-route the past two summers, as well. Not sure if I can go back to a tent now. Lol.

Anyways, had my follow-up cervix check today and things are looking great. My cervix has actually INCREASED in size! I'm thrilled, and I no longer have to go in for ultrasounds every other week. And while I'll miss the regular check-ins with my little nugget, I'm glad to be done with the hassle of it all. I also asked about returning to work in September...and the doctor said I am cleared to return to work as long as I am not more than 2cm dilated. I have an appointment on Aug. 4th, so I'll prob have my doc check then. And then I'll have to schedule another appt at the end of Aug to confirm it's still safe.

Well, hope all is well with everyone else. Enjoy the weekend ahead!

Oh, and I almost forgot! I was surprised with a 3D ultrasound today. Things were going as planned, and then all of a sudden the regular profile shot turned into a 3D picture! I've always thought they were pretty creepy, but I have to admit, it was pretty cool to see!! I'll post a pic from my phone in a couple mins...

@Bunnylovesbear I find the photos of 3D ultrasounds totally creepy but it was so cool to see it on the actual screen!

We are making good progress in the nursery and with rearranging our house. I'm still trying to pick a glider/recliner to order and I think I'm going with this one - http://www.costco.com/Jordan-Doodles-Ash-Swivel-Glider-Recliner.product.100085084.html although our nursery is tiny and this glider is a little bit smaller - http://www.costco.com/.product.100085079.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-itempageVerticalRight-_-CategorySiloedViewCP&cm_vc=itempageVerticalRight|CategorySiloedViewCP but I'm less wild about the chevron because I feel like it's such an overdone trend.

We are finally starting to plan our shower, which will be in mid-September.

@bunnylovesbear: That's adorable! I agree, I always thought the 3D ones were creepy, but when they did one for us, I found it so compelling! And what great news on your cervix! Congrats!

@Ms.Mermaid: Hey, another Costco fan! We Costco, and I've actually been looking at the second glider, but in the gray. The online reviews at Costco aren't all the greatest (they are either "Best glider ever!" or, "Don't purchase this junky thing!"). Have you tested any of them? Your first link looks like a really nice chair, but they don't have any of them in-store where we live, so I haven't gotten a chance to sit in them!

Things have been progressing just fine with us- we spent the weekend actually painting the nursery, and I can't get over the difference a couple of coats of paint can make to a room! We're planning on painting the trim and then putting new carpet in the room, and then we can start setting up furniture. That will be especially nice, as the crib has been sitting in the box in the middle of our living room for ages.

@Mrs tartan: Wow!! So exciting to have everything done! Can you post some pics for us to see?

@mrskoloa: Sounds like you have a lot of things prepared as well! As for the freezer meals, it's on my to-do list but I highly doubt I'll ever get around to it. lol. I have the best of intentions but we made due without any last time, so I imagine it would be fine again this time too. I plan to accept my family/friends help much sooner this time too, so that should help.

@bunnylovesbear: What a great picture! I hope you have fun camping and yay for the good check up on your cervix!

No progress on the nursery set up for us this weekend. My mom is planning to take the bed and desk for use at her house, but now she needs to figure out how to get it there. I imagine we will still have to move it to the basement for at least a little while, but I just want everything out! Our rug and rug pad came in the mail and now our entire guest room is full of baby stuff, just waiting to be assembled. I'm tempted to hire a couple of college kids (or neighbor kids) to move everything and help assemble the furniture, just so I can start organizing everything.

In other news....My DH went for a job interview in California last week and we are waiting to hear back about the outcome. We haven't told our families about it and I'm nervous about the whole thing. It would be an amazing opportunity for him, career wise, but it would obviously mean moving away from all of our family and friends, and essentially starting over. I hope we know something this week, because it's hard to think about anything else when so much is up in the air.

@mrskoloa: in the UK there is no such thing as a baby shower, gifts come after the baby is born but as we will have no idea what we will be gifted, we have bought everything ourselves apart from the swing and the travel system which DHs mum and my parents bought. Good to hear that you have started antenatal classes, my first one is the 11th aug. Im in awe of anyone who is willing to try it natural, I wish you the best of luck. I've already decided if possible I'd like the epidural.
@bunnylovesbear: so thrilled about your cervix! What great news for you. Your 3d scan is amazing! How many weeks was that? Wow it's crazy to see what our babies really look like now, I can never envisage the kicks that I'm getting coming from a real baby!
@bushelandapeck: oooh keep us posted on your DH interview, how exciting but nerve wracking, as if your life hasn't busy enough at the moment!

Here is a pic of the Winnie the Pooh nursery we have done

@Ms.Pumpkin: yes, exactly! I never would have requested one in a million years, but I'm so intrigued by the image they were able to produce for us! So what color did you paint the nursery?

@Ms.Mermaid: Exciting about the shower planning! How involved will you be? Mine was a "surprise," so I had nothing to do with it...which was pretty fantastic! All I did was show up.

@bushelandapeck: Thank you! And holy smokes re: your hubby's job interview!! That is quite the life-changing decision. I could never make a move like that, but I know several people that have made the switch to the Cali-life and absolutely love it. What part of Cali?

@Mrs tartan: Thank you! That image is from last Friday, which 28+3 for me. I cannot believe how baby-like our little babies are already! I know we're in our third trimester, but it just seems so unreal to me. Also, your nursery looks great! My nearly 2-year old is on a Winnie the Pooh kick lately, so I want to get him some stuffed animals.
