Anyone started on anything for baby?

I just ordered fabric for her quilt. I've also been working on her Christmas stocking. Her nursery DD2 is currently in and the only thing I'm doing is putting up some new art and adding a twin bed in there. The only other things I need to acquire between now and birth are some small diapers and a few new sleepers.

@whiskers: Once I find out if baby is a boy or a girl, I will be starting on a quilt for him/her! I'm really excited. I want to make one similar to H's quilt but with different fabric lines and in different colors.

@avivoca: ugh aren't people the worst!! A family friend was basically like, you must be further along or you definitely have twins!! I was like ummm no. The worst part is, I haven't even gained back all of the 20ish lbs I lost, so it makes me feel terrible!

@whiskers: my mom and I are crafting some stuff for the nursery (big block letters for the wall and deciding on a mural). My mom's best friend is making a quilt and my mom will probably do a stocking... I'm going to try and hunt down some cute needlepoint that matches our theme! Your comment just lit a fire under my butt lol!! October will be here in no time and I'm notoriously slow on my needlepoint!

Oh! Has anyone started having sciatic pain?? I had it really bad Saturday and Sunday night and it was still hanging around this morning! I thought I had a lot more time before that particular symptom hit!

Second+ time moms: does the sciatica usually come and go? Or just come and stay for the remainder of the pregnancy?

  5. whiskers

    kiwi / 657 posts

@Bernieboo: Yeah, I'm just trying to be ahead in case things get crazy. I also have 2-ish weeks kid free coming up so I plan to use them very effectively.

@avivoca: I was dying to find out the sex last time just so I could start my quilt.

@Bernieboo: I had sciatic issues with my 1st starting at around 8 weeks and throughout the entire pregnancy. It was only bad though when I either stood or walked for a period of time (my upper thigh would go numb). I've already had the exact same issues this time but it seems to be more random when it comes on. Mine isn't necessarily painful- just annoying!

@whiskers: @avivoca: I couldn't wait to find out if we're having a boy or girl, so I started making a quilt a couple weeks ago with some gender-neutral baby flannel I already had. It's just basic square and I'm going to tie it instead of having it quilted, but once we find out what we're having next week, I'm sure I'll go crazy with more "gender specific" quilts

@Bernieboo: I was having what I assume was sciatic pain last weekend, to the point where I had to keep stopping while walking the dogs because it hurt so bad. I haven't really had any since then, so maybe it does come and go?

I'm just trying to focus on getting through one week at a time, because for some reason my anxiety has gone back through the roof this week. I'm not sure what caused it.

@jaguar: I was feeling super, super anxious last week too because I went a few days without feeling anything. Have you checked with the Doppler to help
    You feel less anxious?

  10. jaguar

    pomegranate / 3764 posts

@avivoca: Well, other that one sort-of movement yesterday, I haven't had anything.. so I think you're right, it's probably that adding to it.

Yeah, I'll do a doppler check today I think. I can't wait to get to the point where I can relax a smidgen.

@jaguar: it's hard, I go through periods of feeling great and then bam. I don't feel the baby move except on the rare occasion so that's no help. I have an appointment next week so will get to hear Doppler but then it will be five weeks until my next scan!!

Busy week here - I work 25-30 hours and otherwise have the kiddos. It's my husbands birthday today so was running around for that and our big boys 4th birthday party is Satruday at our house so tons to do for that getting house and yard and food ready.

Not doing anything for baby yet. He's another boy so we don't need anything and won't change the toddlers room will just put the baby there. I'm sure I will get a few new outfits at some point though

@jaguar: i know the chances of anything going wrong between 14 and 21 weeks is low....but I also know there's a chance. So, yeah. You're so close though!

    Sorry you have it too!

    @jaguar: Sorry!

@Bernieboo: I had one bad episode so far but it was very fleeting, luckily. Hope you feel better soon!

@jaguar: Totally get you. I just posted about baby movement with #2--it's so hard not to worry! I'm sure your little nugget is doing great, though.

So, my boobs are randomly sore. Made it through the whole first tri (I'm 15+2 today) and all of a sudden they're sore to the tough/in my bra. Blah! Thought I was in the clear on that one--they didn't even get sore when I was nursing, although I only really nursed until I was 9/10 weeks pregnant.

@jaguar: I go through this too. I'm still meeting with my therapist every few weeks. I had thought last week that I didn't need to go anymore since my anxiety was under control but then once we started talking I realized I'm maybe just hiding it really well. There is a part of me that still feels like things are going too well and something bad is going to happen. IVF just really f's with you that way. Last night I had a dream that I started bleeding and it felt so real and horrifying. I hope once I start feeling movement the anxiety will lessen but I really think there is never going to be a point during pregnancy where I'm going to relax. I'm really just trying to distract myself with non-baby related projects- we're doing a kitchen reno so that has been helpful in taking my mind off of things.

Oh man. I have a dehydration headache today. I'm finding it really hard to do housework, run errands, take care of an active toddler, and remember to up my water intake. Some days I totally fail at at least one of those things, usually the water...

  20. whiskers

    kiwi / 657 posts

@TFrances: Ugh, yes, I have trouble with water intake lately. I was so thirsty first trimester I drank a lot more, but I fail to drink enough most days now.

@Bernieboo: I think that's what's been bothering me. It started during a work trip and a very long plane flight, but it keeps coming and going. Stretching seems to help the most: hamstrings and quadricepts

  22. BUNBUN

18 weeks today! Still feel nauseated from time to time (especially in cars and airplanes), although less often. Am usually OK as long as I don't eat after 7pm. Still exhausted. Add back pain (sciatic maybe?) to the list. I haven't felt any movement yet. We have a short list of potential names, but no front-runners yet. When is that 2nd trimester "burst of energy" supposed to arrive??

  23. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@BUNBUN: The "burst of energy" just means I'm marginally less exhausted than I was in the first trimester these days. Chasing after a toddler and waking up to pee all the time is hard.

  24. BUNBUN

@avivoca: Hahaha! OK, I'll stop waiting then!

  25. avivoca

@BUNBUN: Also, FWIW, I do have random bursts of energy, like on Sunday night when I deep cleaned my stove. Then I had to go to bed because I was tired lol.

Are others experiencing lots of round ligament pain? It's kind of stopped me in my tracks a few times in the last day or so and I guess I don't remember this from my first pregnancy. The aches are bringing back some anxiety... I keep wondering if it should be that strong (and hoping that all it is is RLP).

Pregnancy milestone.....pregnant looking enough that today, our lawn guy asked me if I'm pregnant. 15+1

@BUNBUN: haha there's no such thing. It's just being a little less tired than first trimester / feeling human

I'm not feeling any movement at all!!! It's starting to make me anxious because everyone is asking about it! I'm only 17 weeks, but it's starting to stress me out!

So, for those who are wondering about sciatic pain, it's pretty intense... My chiropractor said it can be burning, stabbing, shooting, numbness, or any combination and can be on either leg. Mine is shooting from my butt to my thigh. He also recommended ice and not heat and stretching.

Omg RLP!! It's been crazy the last couple of weeks. I'm go a few days where it's really bad, then nothing for a few days, then it comes back! I think it must be growth spurts?? I see the midwife tomorrow and am planning on asking her.

Do they typically do doppler at every appt? I was in four weeks ago and she did it, then about two weeks ago, I was in with a sinus infection and they checked it. Hubby hadn't heard the heartbeat on the Doppler yet (he didn't come to the last two appts bc of work), so I'm really hoping they do it tomorrow. He hasn't seen/heard anything since our 12 week ultrasound!

@Bernieboo: In my experience, they check at every appointment.

@whiskers: We plan to do it ALL this summer, I am a teacher so we will have days off where DD can go to her sitters and we can clean/organize
We plan to buy furniture soon! Planning a room again is fun
I want to DIY a lot of things for him and DD this summer too!!!

@BUNBUN: looking great! I feel like I felt better at 15 weeks , so hopefully you are there soon

@winniebee: Whoop whoop! Brave guy though

@Bernieboo: My practice does at every visit!!

@BUNBUN: cute bump pic! maybe it's just me but I love seeing the bump pics!

We went away last week to NC for the wedding I was dreading attending. As expected it was a long week full of things I didn't get to participate in, but still nice to get away and not work. Hubby has finally come around completely to having a girl instead of the boy he was wanting before the gender reveal. Still have some healing to do from his reaction at the party but we're doing better.

finally, for the first time ever, I went to the mall with only the intention to shop my heart out for OUR baby girl! After all the years of IF and attending everyone elses baby events and buying gifts for others, I wanted a full day of shopping just for our sweet pea. Ended up with 4 outfits from Macys and one from Baby Gap for a grand total of $35. (and a savings of $135!! Great deals out there right now). It was just what I needed to boost my excitement after a gender reveal party gone awry.

Also, today is our first ultrasound since 9.5 weeks (today is 18 weeks). We are so anxious to see our bean and all the growth since the last u/s. Especially now that we know it's a girl! Anatomy scan is next Wednesday so this will likely be a short OB appointment but still excited.

As for making things - not really making anything yet but trying to start shopping for the parts and pieces for the nursery. I bought something yesterday that literally made me cry when I was standing in line. Considering all the struggles to get to baby, this was just perfect and I couldn't pass it up. Matches the nursery perfectly too! Hubby LOVED it! It's a shadow box with hinges on the side so we can add things when she's born.

Done with the Dr. Appointment. Guess being a first time mom to be has its learning curve. I guess I was nieve to have thought you got ultrasounds thru your pregnancy. Apparently not. We haven't had one since 9.5 weeks (today is 18 weeks) and other than the anatomy scan next week we don't get another one for the duration of the pregnancy. I posted this on my Facebook a bit ago and apparently this is normal. Wish I had known so we didn't have our hopes up to see our little bean again. luckily anatomy scan is soon but still bummed that that will be our last time. I know we could go get a 3/4d one done privately but we aren't wanting to do any extra scans if they aren't done by our dr. Really just thought they did more than check the heart rate, measure you and send you on your way when you were pregnant.

  39. avivoca

    watermelon / 14467 posts

@waiting4you: Nope. I had extra scans, but that was because H had bilateral corneal plexus cysts on her brain and an echogenic focus on her heart. Both issues were a non-issue, but yes, standard procedure is only to have an anatomy scan.

  40. Shantuck

    pear / 1767 posts

@waiting4you: Try to be glad there aren't many scans! They usually only do scans when something is wrong. I seem to have had a million already this time (they were worried about a hematoma for awhile) and last time (my son was measuring small during late pregnancy). Usually, if all looks good, there is no reason to do a scan and that is a good thing!
