@jessiejo17: @CarrieLouWho: Sorry you guys have had some scary moments!! I also freak out if I don't feel LO moving around as much--however, last night, he was seriously trying to kick his way out of my stomach I think, lol--DH was like, WHAT is he doing in there?!
We're leaving on Sunday for our babymoon (a week in Woodstock NY) and I"m SO excited! The house we're renting has a pool and I can't wait to lounge in it/by it all day long!
Also, this is random, but what baby mobile, if any, are you getting?
persimmon / 1408 posts
@Hilsy - Yay babymoon!!! Our week off was spent cleaning the house and organizing, so I'm super jealous of your pool lounging!!! Enjoy it and get lots of rest!
I don't think we're doing a mobile... I had looked, but hadn't found anything I liked and most were pricey enough that I couldn't justify it. I could see maybe making something, but even then I'm not sure. Interested to see what others are doing!!!

@jessiejo17: @CarrieLouWho: Sorry you guys had those scares! Glad everything is ok though! I worry too if I don't feel him move for awhile. It's so comforting feeling those movements. I know that he's ok in there.

@hilsy85: Yay for babymoon! Have fun! As far as a mobile goes, I registered for one. I know babies like to look at high contrast items, so I registered for this one:
I'm also hoping to possibly make one like this:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/101985792/baby-crib-mobile-custom-baby-mobile?
We'll see if I have the time or not, but I definitely cannot justify spending over $100 on a mobile.
Do you guys notice your baby likes to hang out in a certain spot? Mine likes to put some body part up in my right rib. I sure hope he doesn't kick a rib out of place when he gets bigger. lol

@CarrieLouWho: we're not doing a mobile either. I'd like one but I didn't like any we saw. The expensive ones I saw and liked don't even play music! So they aren't worth their price. I am kind of ok with it. He has music on his swing and bouncer so he doesn't need stimulation in his crib as well......that's how I reason it:)

I'm not playing on a mobile either, but have contemplated hanging some lanterns above her bed to give her something to look at. The one matching our bedding was too expensive to justify.

What crib mattress are you ladies using?
I've been trying to make up my mind but can't. I'm thinking about the naturepedic, but can't decide if it's worth the hefty price tag.

@jessiejo17: I glad that everything is better after your scare. @hilsy85: We got a winnie the pooh mobile to match the bedding.
@mrskc: We got the sealy soybean foam core mattress. It's the one we liked best in the store after trying them (yes, I laid on them in the aisle!) I just liked it a lot better than the innerspring ones.
We finally got the crib all put together and the dresser upstairs (it had been in the garage for a while). The nesting has definitely begun!
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: We're doing the naturpedic lightweight one: http://www.naturepedic.com/products/mattresses/lightweight_organic_crib_mattress.php
I figure LO will use it SO much (hopefully, lol) that it makes the price worth it for me.
Also, that mobile is so cute! The one I have on my registry now isn't at all high contrast, and I feel like I should get one that is...

Just popping in to check in on everyone I’m so glad that the scares were resolved with good news!!!
Regarding mobiles, I’m going to try to make one like this but in our nursery colors (grey and green).

@mrskc: we got the EXTRA FIRM Serta mattress. I put a heavy duty mattress cover (waterproof, stain proof, washable) over it which gave it some fluff and protects it too. We got the extra firm to try to avoid any breathing risks. We also got the AngelCare monitor which has a breathing sensor that slides under any mattress to detect breathing.

by the way: when you ladies say "too expensive to justify", what price range would YOU consider too high for a mobile? I just want to make sure I am being realistic.
squash / 13764 posts
@Running Elley: Ahh so cute!! I wish I were crafty...
@TurtleDoves: For a mobile I feel like ~$50-60 is my limit...I don't really know how long they use them, and some babies don't even like them, so I don't want to spend too much on it (I'd rather use the money for other potentially useless but adorable things! ).
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@TurtleDoves: Anything 75 and over is too much for me to justify!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@mrskc: We are using the Serta extra firm mattress with a protective cover that gives it some more comfort. It was the one recommended to us!
coconut / 8475 posts
@jessiejo17: we're mattress twins! I just got ours last week and I love it!
@Hilsy: that's my thought process exactly. I went ahead and registered for one just because that is $59. If I get-great...if not, oh well. I am not too worried about it.
I registered for a quiet one that plays very soft music and doesn't have too much going on because I don't want it to keep him up
bananas / 9357 posts
@hilsy85: That's my logic for getting the naturepedic mattress. I can't decide which one though.
Thanks ladies for telling me your mattresses. I'll look into the ones you all have picked out.
@TurtleDoves: About $50 is all i want to spend on a mobile.
@Running Elley: That is going to turn out soooo cute! You have to post photos when you're done.

Another question for you ladies, have you started feeling different kinds of movements besides just kicking feelings?
I've been feeling what feels like the baby moving/rolling around in there. Like it doesn't just feel like little muscle spasms anymore. Like it's a butt or knee or something rolling along my belly. Hard to explain it. Like I'll put my hand on my belly and I'll feel a body part rubbing against my hand. It's the weirdest/coolest thing ever!
coconut / 8681 posts
@mrskc: I was just going to ask about the change in movement LOL. I’ve noticed the same thing…less actual kicks and more just movements and rolls. I like it but it makes me worry totally unnecessarily when it’s been awhile since an actual kick. I need to remember that the rolls are just as valid a movement as the kicks!
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: Definitely feeling more rolls, but also feeling a lot of HARD kicks that feel exactly like little feet drumming on my insides. I also sometimes feel a hard ridge that must be baby's butt or head or back.
coconut / 8475 posts
@mrskc: yeeesss OMG. It's kind of freaky:) I can feel him do a full roll or turn and I can tell where he is now and how he is laying. Right now his head is on my right side with his feet pointing to my belly button. Because when he kicks my belly button gets poked and my belly is lopsided today-big time. It's awesome:) but super weird too.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
The rolls still freak me out! I know the movement is good, but it makes me feel like my belly is on a roller coaster!! GIves me that kind of feeling when it happens. She is very stubborn though, I try to "move" her out of my rib cage, and she will kick/punch me back!
coconut / 8475 posts
@jessiejo17: hhah me too. DH HATTTTES it when i shove baby around. He's like..."don't poke him!" I'm like "he started it!" He jabs me, I try to push him out of there and he just thinks i'm playing with him so the kicking goes into full force.
bananas / 9357 posts
@jessiejo17: I try to move my LO out of the way too! haha He gets all up in my right rib cage and it's annoying. I try to push down and away from my rib cage, but he's stubborn!
@hilsy85: Hard ridge. That's a good way to describe it!
bananas / 9357 posts
I'm just going to vent for a minute and say I how much a hate Buy Buy Baby right now. My crib has been in for awhile, but Little Castle is taking forever to send my glider! Ugh. I called two weeks ago and they said it would be in by this Monday. Now they are telling me it will most likely be in on Aug 6th. Boo Anyways, I don't really hate them, I'm just incredibly impatient. It's a two hour drive to pick the stuff up, so I only want to make the trip once. Ok that's my rant for the day. Poor me and my 1st world problems. lol
clementine / 961 posts
@TurtleDoves: DH freaks out when I poke my belly he is always saying "Stop your going to hurt the baby". At times LO goes up into my ribcage and it is so uncomfortable. I try to move LO down which is usually unsucessful.
coconut / 8475 posts
@Mrs.B: I know, tell me about it. These babies are stubborn. I don't blame them. I bet they are starting to get all squished and uncomfortable themselves.

Ladies, it may have been discussed previously, and I don't want to start a thread, bumpers....yay or nay?
Of the people I know, it's a pretty even split.....MIL is big no-no-no about it, and when I brought it up last night I got an awkward lecture (we are halfway across country visiting them for a few weeks now) about them.
I get the no's, but the friends/family that did use them had babies who whacked their heads and got bruises, or limbs through the slats (nothing happened....but just the bumper's were put in for protection from further bruising). I have a few friends who put them in "for pretty" as well, and so there's that less important part of it as well.
And so I am torn!!!
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@Beebug: I registered for a breathable one, but will only use it if I see that DD gets her arm/leg/ect. caught or starts hurting herself. It will be kept in the package unless absolutely needed.
squash / 13764 posts
@mrskc: Aw that's annoying!! I hate it when ship dates change like that, especially when it's something you're excited about!
@Beebug: We are not using bumpers...we felt that even though there is a small chance that they could contribute to suffocation, it's not worth taking the risk. The biggest reason I wanted them was for the look, so we luckily found sheets that have a design on the side that help give the look of bumpers. We did register for breathable bumpers, so if LO starts to thrash around at night and get stuck, then we'll use those. I honestly think it's pretty unlikely that LO will be banging against the crib hard enough to hurt himself, but I guess we will see. So for now, no bumpers at all for us.
honeydew / 7235 posts
@mrskc: so glad you asked about crib mattresses, I was going to ask the same thing..... I was also eyeing the naturepedic, but dont know what is best. But I will also check out the Serta extra firm!
Sorry to hear about BBB - annoying! We are waiting on our glider from there, but my husband ordered it so I have no idea what's going on - I think it should be here in 2 or 3 weeks.
@Beebug: I decided against the crib bumper. Some were cute and I am figuring less stuff is better for us at this point!
Like Hilsy -- we also it cute sheets and a crib skirt that show enough design.
bananas / 9357 posts
@Beebug: Right now we're not doing a bumper. I just don't want to risk it. But if I notice he's getting limbs stuck in there, then we'll get one. I think bumpers are ok when they're older and the risk of SIDS is gone.
grapefruit / 4120 posts
We didn't use bumpers for our first and nothing bad happened. If they're swaddled and/or in a sleep sack I don't think you should expect too much movement!
So it worked fine and we'll do the same this time.
coconut / 8475 posts
@Beebug: I was all for bumpers and didn't understand the big deal until I got one.
DH and I put it in the crib and I got this horrible feeling. They are so puffy and look like they are just smothering the crib. I immediately felt like it was a huge threat.
At the same time I want a bumper so no limbs will be poking out of the crib! So, I registered for a breathable one.
I'm keeping the original one on there for now just for looks. I actually hate it and can't wait to get a breathable one!
clementine / 961 posts
@Beebug: No bumper for us. For us the risk of having the bumper in the crib is not worth taking.

So, quick update: I packed my hospital bag! I couldn't help it. I'm excited. I got some cute nighties and nursing bras and mini travel sized soaps and toothpaste for me and DH.
I got some pads (fun) and some socks...basically everything but the phone chargers, laptop, and wallet (I always have my ID and insurance card with me in there).
And I wrote out my birth plan! I feel accomplished today;)

Hey ladies! Just wanted to check in with you all now that we're pregnant again (due in April, fingers crossed!!). It was too painful to read this thread after our mc. I hope you understand!! Anyway I hope you're all doing well

@sslm: congrats!!! Wishing you a sticky baby and an easy pregnancy!

@TurtleDoves: I wrote my birth plan today too! As well as pre-registered at the hospital, and made out my shopping list for packing. Need to go to Target to get everything, but plan on doing that in the next week or two! (however who am I kidding, I will probably do it tonight! haha)

@sslm: CONGRATULATIONS!!! I haven't forgotten about you:) I am so glad all is well with you and new pregnancy.
@jessiejo17: That iss so funny-I got all my stuff from Target too! They have great nursing bras.
