@runnerd: @marionberry: (and anyone else who kindly sympathsed with me over the last few days...!) thanks for the well wishes; I'm feeling quite a lot better today but yesterday, oh my it was AWFUL (I didn't manage to avoid tossing my cookies) in the end I had two days off work and spent the entirety on the couch watching TV and sleeping... but I'm hoping it won't be continual since I do feel much much better today! I wouldn't wish it on anyone though, so fingers crossed for the rest of you to avoid it!
This thread is moving so fast already, I can barely keep up! Great to see some many September mamas checking in!

..@MapleMoose: I think our brains are so used to cramps = period so it's worrisome! But I've had cramps for well over a week and no bleeding so I'm finally starting to believe this is happening!
We are a few hours away from telling DHs parents... I'm shopping with my SIL right now (who happens to be my hold best friend since we were 7) and I think she might suspect something's up. We are in one of my favorite stores and she's eyeing me skeptically as to why I'm not buying anything. I don't want to spend money on clothes when I won't be able to fit into them in a few months!

@runnerd: I had bought these beautiful books - The Granada book, The Grandpa Book, The Gifts of Being Grand & I already know I love you - unfortunately they didn't come in on time so plan B - DH wrote a card for his mom (she's just finishing cancer treatment) and for my parents I picked up a cupcake with baby things on it. Will have to give them the books when they come in!

@mango.sprays: Thank you for updating that for me!
@runnerd: We already have dinner planned for Huey's. I'm looking forward to all of the great food.
We went baby shopping today (more window shopping than anything) and picked up a crib sheet and a boppy cover that were on sale at Pottery Barn Kids and a bottle cleaner at Home Goods. Then we went by Babies R Us and decided on the carseat we want and the swing. I know it's still early to be buying stuff, but it really helps me stay positive and forget about the possibility of mc'ing. So much fun!

@runnerd: We've been picking up things here and there for the 10 months it took us to get pregnant. We have a dresser, a number of bedding items, lots of gender neutral clothes, blankets, etc. We figure that if we spread out the expenses over time it won't be a huge hit to us all at once.

@marionberry: Haven't gotten the results back yet, but then again the GYN office isn't open on the weekends so I'm not surprised. I'll call Monday and see if they have the results yet.
@evenstar982: Glad you are starting to feel better. Any tips for getting through the MS?
@char54: I agree about expecting cramps to always be period-related. Announcing is so exciting! Enjoy!
@Joanlindsay: Welcome!
@LittleGBee: I only cooked dinner today not a whole freezer full of meals but I was so exhausted that I had to take a nap, which is so unlike me. I can't imagine throwing a 13 month old into the mix. Hope you get a chance to put your feet up and take a breather.

@MapleMoose: hmmmm tips... I have tried a few things suggested here, ones that have worked for me: ice pops seem to be a good nausea-cure, plus trying to keep a full belly is definitely the way to go; that's the hardest thing I think, trying to fill up first thing in the morning while feeling sick is very much "mind over matter" for me!
And carbs, carbs, carbs! Lol! Basically I try and eat something small every hour, to keep 'full' - id love to hear what works for anyone else suffering too!

@char54: How did it go telling them?? That sounds so fun and exciting! Can't wait to hear what their reaction was.
@marionberry: Awwww - that is SO cute that you guys have been baby shopping (and very smart of you to be finding deals). I'm glad it's helping you stay positive too.
@evenstar982: Glad to hear the nausea has subsided a bit today! I'm so sorry you're feeling so crappy though.
@Joanlindsay: Welcome!
So I took a bit of a hiatus after my spotting scare Thursday morning. I completely freaked myself out and assumed I was MCing. I've certainly learned my lesson to STOP the POASing. I suggest you all do too (after ~ 5 weeks). I went in and had my HCG levels checked Friday and they were at ~80,000 mIU/mL (despite my faint line on the Wondfo strip). I'm going in Monday to get it checked again to ensure it's appropriately increasing.
Apparently the light line on the HPT test is due to the "variant hook effect," which gives you false negatives. As pregnancy progresses, there are different variant forms of hCG that begin to appear in the urine. After about 5 weeks, concentrations of hCG beta core fragment are higher than all other forms of hCG, which is normal. Unfortunately, the concentration of hCG beta core fragment can saturate one of the antibodies used in the assay in certain pregnancy kits, and the other antibody doesn't recognize the beta core fragment. As a result, no sandwich forms and the test is read as a negative. The farther in pregnancy you are, the more likely that this false negative will occur. The variant hook effect can be confirmed if testing shows a positive result after diluting the sample.
Here's a link to an article on it in the College of American Pathologists:
So I nervously tried it this morning with my FMU. When I diluted my urine with 50-75% water, I got a nice dark line. Phew!

@NBLChicago: my new mantra is "there's no room for faith where fear exists" every time I get scared, I say that to myself and pray for complete faith in the future
grape / 98 posts
@jetsa my last pregnancy my Dr said Pepcid Complete was safe and it worked for my heartburn. I didn't get it til the 3rd trimester so check to make sure it is safe 1st trimester. Somethings are safe later but not early on.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.

@nblchicago: Thanks for the info. That was really helpful. I actually woke up with horrible cramps last night (I think partially due to constipation) and it freaked me out. I had to POAS this morning just to feel a bit better. But good to know that I shouldn't count on that for long.
@char54: I think last night I lived what happened to you the other day. I mean killer cramps! (Sorry if TMI) I haven't had a regular bowel movement in days and it's killing me. The cramps had me so stressed out. I just need to get through the next week so bad so that I can see a little heartbeat and stop worrying about every little thing. I like your new mantra though. I need to shut out the fear.

@NBLChicago: Thanks so much for the info on the variant hook effect! That's really interesting, and will surely save us some POAS anxiety. I would have never expected diluted pee to produce a darker line....not gonna lie, it kind of makes me want to try it out

@marionberry: oh no! It's so scary isn't it? Did they last long? Glad you are feeling better today.
My cramps stopped but my back is killing me. I broke it when I was in high school but haven't had much problems since. I'm hoping it doesn't flare up over the next 9 months. I'm driving back to our city and the heated seat is working wonders!
We told DHs family last night and it was so much fun! Lots of tears, smiles and laughter. We are telling my parents tonight at dinner- 1st grand baby on both sides so lots of excitement!
grape / 77 posts
@marionberry: Oh goodness! I would be scared too if I was woken up by cramps, but it definitely sounds like it's due to the constipation. Hopefully you have a BM soon, and the cramps pass. We'll get through this next week together! Your appt is 1/28, right?
@mango.sprays: I was SO nervous to try it myself this morning. But I figured if my levels were as high as they were on Friday, then I'm probably still ok. Give it a whirl though in a few weeks maybe? It's kind of a fun science experiment.

@char54: It was scary! Only lasted probably 30-45 mins and I was able to fall back asleep. Haven't felt anything similar since then, so that's good. I'm so glad telling your DH's family went well and how exciting that you get to tell your family tonight. I loved telling everyone!
@nblchicago: Yep the 28th. Yours is the day after mine. Now that it's getting closer I am very excited and anxious all at the same time. At least you got an early hCG test. 80,000 seems like a lot! So no reason to worry at all about that baby of yours.

@Joanlindsay: welcome!!! missed your post before!! man, lots of sept mamas!
@marionberry: OMG, I have been constipated since thurs and its making me miserable!! I feel like I need to stop eating cause there must not be room for more food lol
@mango.sprays: every test I take in the afternoon is stronger and I didn't think it made since but maybe it does now
@char54: yay on sharing the news! we told DH's parents a few hours ago and they were shocked and thrilled. So fun to see bc they are normally mild mannered in their reactions to stuff

Ugh, AF-like cramps have gotten strong this afternoon. AF would have been due tomorrow. Can't help but worry she will show, even though I haven't had any spotting at all. Can't wait to get to mid week with still no AF!

@runnerd: Try to have patience. Cramping was one of my major pregnancy symptoms, especially before I got my period. Did you POAS today? If it's still positive I think you're pretty safe.

@runnerd: Hang in there!! On the day AF was due for me, I felt like it was starting pretty much all day long. Very weird-feeling, but normal!

Question to all first timers - what is the craziest thing you've worried about since getting pregnant? So far I've googled do computers give off radiation (FYI super safe) and cold uterus (an acupuncture thing) because I'm always so cold.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@marionberry: lol- isn't it funny the things you think of?
So far I've just googled nosebleeds as my nose now is continuously bleeding when I blow it and whether cream cheese was safe. Nothing too out of the ordinary!
I tell you what though- hello "morning" sickness. I feel sick all the time like I'm hungover - ergh. First doctors appt tomorrow soooo nervous! And if all goes well we will tell DH's parents tomorrow as they are moving away and we want to tell them in person.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@Mrs squirreld: how exciting, totally jealous that you get to see Dr so soon
Ladies, does your husband plan to go to your first appt with you? I've been wondering if we will hear heartbeat or have an ultrasound... Def he wouldn't want to miss those things.
nectarine / 2522 posts
@runnerd: DH is coming with me for the first one. He plans on coming to as many as possible. depends how many weeks you are on what you'll see/ hear. I'm not sure what to expect either! But DH wants to ask questions too!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@runnerd: Try not to worry - My cramps were very there leading up (and after) my period...it felt like it was just around the corner. I'm now a week and a half late and no sign of AF!
@marionberry: LOL I googled "Can you poop the embryo out?" yesterday while having a BM.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@runnerd: I asked the receptionist this and she said DH should come to the first one for sure as they will take medical history from both sides, explain how things will progress and try to hear the heartbeat (fingers crossed!!)
