@runnerd: That's fabulous news!!! It must have been incredible to see the little blob and know all is well!

@littlegbee: Thanks for the tips. I think the idea of using Lent is great- I've actually always meant to give up alcohol for it and just hadn't gotten around to doing it yet. I'll also try the glass switching trick with the husband this weekend.
@runnerd: Congrats on the good news! Yay!

Oh have to add - a coworker was at the dr office when I went!! Happens to be good buddies with my boss (good enough that they have gone on vacations together!) praying to God she didn't overhear the nurse quietly say I was there for an ultrasound - not ready to be outed at work!!

@runnerd: Woot woot! Thats great news, glad you got to see your "black dot" baby today, hopefully that will give you some confidence for the rest of your first tri!

@runnerd: I'm soo glad everything looked great! I hope she didn't hear so you don't get 'outed'!

@marionberry: No standout symptoms to report here aside from massive fatigue. How's your trip?
@MrsStormy: My GYN doctor had already gone through my medications and acne stuff and told me what to stop and what is okay to keep using back when I had my IUD out and told her we were TTC. Plus she discussed diet changes, no alcohol, reducing caffeine, and being careful of certain exposures like secondhand smoke, cleaning products, and whatnot. So actually not much has changed for me since I got my BFP because I was already avoiding things when I started TTC. I wonder if the new OB I'm going to see will tell me anything different.
@jbean: I've already used the "I was just sick and don't want to push it" excuse (which wasn't a lie) and the "I have a headache" excuse. I like @LittleGBee:'s excuse of Lent. That's a good one. I might try the "new year new me/I'm trying to lead a healthier lifestyle" excuse before then.
@runnerd: *whew* I'm so glad everything was alright. And I'm a tad jealous that you already got to see your baby!! What a great moment it must have been.

@MapleMoose: My trip has been great so far. Mainly because it's so awesome to see my DH so happy around his brothers and sisters. I really wish they lived closer.
I'm glad I'm not alone in lacking symptoms! My constipation is out of control though, as it usually gets worse when I travel. This girl needs a bm lol.
@runnerd: hit Huey's last night and it was great. I forgot to write on the wall though. Oh and it turns out I'm not the only baby news down here. Dh's 20 year old niece is pregnant and due in may.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@marionberry: mmm Huey's! Hope your trip is going well! So did y'all announce to his family?
apricot / 251 posts
Just announced at work - to my direct team only (8 ppl). I figured I'd let the news spread from there...
It was nerve-wracking, but everyone was very congratulatory and my boss took it well... he is difficult to read so who knows, but he just asked me to "work harder while I'm here"... ok then!
I brought in cupcakes to soften the blow LOL. just wait til I tell them I am planning on taking a few extra weeks of maternity leave.... :-O
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@mrsmoreau: yay, glad it went well! and cupcakes def sounds like a good move
pomelo / 5041 posts
@mrsmoreau: I'm glad it all went well and your boss was understanding. I am very lucky that my boss was well aware of our infertility struggles and was elated to find out that we were pregnant. I haven't told all of work yet, but will do that in a month or so.
@runnerd: DH had already told his sister before we go there. Then DH was unsure he wanted to tell his brothers before our u/s but apparently his sister had already told one of them (he secretly congratulated me at dinner). We'll be telling his other brother when we see him on Friday. So eventually everyone will know. My DH is actually much older than me and his daughter lives here, so we'll be telling her tonight and I know she's going to be very excited.

@marionberry: That is fabulous about work, and also about the family! it feels awesome to share such exciting news, hope everyone is just as thrilled as you are!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: @mrsmoreau: I'm not sure when to announce at work. I'll be out for the year and I'm a teacher (September baby works perfectly!!) so it won't be quite as tricky, they'll just need to fill my position for the complete school year.
I'm thinking I might wait until at least after our first ultrasound, if not the full 12 weeks. But my principal is already talking to me about doing some speciality roles next year and I'm feeling a bit guilty knowing full well I won't be there.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: I'd certainly wait until 12 weeks if you have the luxury, but if your boss really starts pushing these extra things she wants you to do, it may be more appropriate to just let her know why you'll be unable to help out.
@mrsmoreau: Everyone has been very excited and happy for us so far. I'm sure it will continue. I really love how excited everyone is for this baby. But no one is as excited as me!

@char54: I had a similar problem with my team/principle last week. My principle needs someone from our team to join the revamped school leadership team. It would be at least 1-2 year commitment, beginning next year, with several full day, trainings beginning this Spring . Normally I would volunteer, because it's something I wouldn't mind doing. And my teammates are either first year teachers or not wanting to take on extra work. I know they were expecting me to volunteer for the job so they were very surprised when I flat out said I didn’t feel like taking on extra responsibilities at this time. Now, my coworker who ended up agreeing to join the team is complaining about how much work its going to be and obviously trying to make me feel guilty. But I'm keeping my big mouth shut until 12 weeks (or at least 8 weeks!)

@char54: @Colee: that's rough for y'all with well in advance planned school schedules!! I would crumble if anyone questioned me haha!

@marionberry: that will be exciting sharing news with his daughter! And nice if y'all move to Memphis to have family there too

I decided to make some chicken stock today while my daughter is down for her nap. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but now I'm stuck in the house with this smell that is making me want to plug my nose up with cotton or puke. Whoops.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. We finally got released from the hospital after being there for 9 days!!!!! So glad to be home. I'm hoping this weekend goes fast, and that Mondays US shows us good things! It was so nice to see a heartbeat, so I'm just praying it keeps getting faster and baby grows!
@marionberry: How old is his daughter? Is she excited?

Anyone looked at crib mattresses yet? My hubby will be building our crib so the mattress is the first thing we need to buy to make sure it fits snuggly in the crib but there are soo many options.
grapefruit / 4311 posts
@jetsa: not yet, but I have been wondering if mattress sizes are pretty standard for most cribs

@Rosie Girl: She's 31 with a baby of her own and she was very excited! She actually gave me four pairs of maternity pants which was awesome.

@runnerd: I know! It was two pair of jeans, one pair of grey work pants and then one pair of cargo pants I doubt I will wear. But that's a lot of money saved for me.

I reaaaallllyyyy want the Jenny Lind crib. I just love it - but it's nowhere to be found here in Canada (even online!) I live close to the border so I'm considering popping over to buy it (as well as the Uppababy vista, so much cheaper in the states!) but my mom is all freaked out about CSA standards etc etc etc. I'm thinking I still might though - they're both safe, reliable products!

@char54: I would totally think a road trip would be worth it for two such important items! How far are you?

@char54: I'm obessed with that crib too. I think I pinned it months before I was even pregnant. And its such a reasonable price here in the US.

@mango.sprays: We're about 4 hours away...my mom, sisters, aunts and I usually make a trip every summer for some shopping. I'm thinking it will be Baby themed this year
Have fun with your books!! I'm loving the Mayo Clinic!

Had my official ultrasound this morning and everything looks good. Due date is officially 9/6 and I am 8 weeks.
Real Food for Mother and Baby is a good book too!
