@char54: Agreed! I originally worried because my DH is much older than me (52) but it turns out it's usually due to a random egg malformation (usually in much older women). So I figure we're probably in a low risk category for it anyway.

Thanks everyone for the welcomes and congratulations I have been a lurker more than a poster for a while but now that I am pregnant, it seems like a good time to jump on in!

@marionberry: @char54: we have the same reasons for opting out of the NT scan -- the chances are so unlikely for anything to be wrong, and it wouldn't change anything at all for us if there was. Plus, we feel like the added worry and stress would far outweigh the additional time to "plan" for the situation. But I understand people wanting to do it, especially if it would make them more anxious *not* to know and be able to prepare.

@marionberry: i'm blaming the puppy fever on crazy hormones.

we have a cat - she is indoor/outdoor about 3 years old. she mainly keeps to herself, and we've only had a couple of "incidents" - nothing too devestating, but it is an adjustment for an animal to have another human in their "territory"

Also, who the heck is cheri22?!

  6. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@MamaMagpie: A baby psychic. She predicted when I'd get pregnant right to the tee. You can pay her a nominal fee to find out about your baby. She gives this long description and it seemed really accurate for us. Like she mentioned that my daughter would really love holidays and make a big deal of them (which is totally something I do now). I'm praying she's right and I do end up with a girl.

@marionberry: when i was pregnant with DS, i wanted a girl so badly.... right up until the anatomy scan - when the tech said "it's a boy" I burst into tears - tears of joy! that was the greatest news in the world. it was as if I had wanted a boy all along!
i guess my point is... boy or girl, in the end it doesn't matter... and you know what they say... if at first you don't succeed....

Ladies. I went to a prenatal yoga class yesterday and I felt so out of place! There was me: 8 weeks, and then 26-28 weekers, and then six or so 36+ weekers. I'll still go because it works with my schedule, but it was a little strange. Oh well!

@Marionberry and @MrsStormy: I just feel fat and bloated as well, and I'm totally self-conscious because no one knows. I'm sure they all just think I'm eating myself into a hole...which is kind of accurate if I think about it. The second time around my uterus just knows where to go apparently; up and out!

  9. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@LittleGBee: my uterus is the same way.... here we go again!

  10. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@littlegbee: @mrsmoreau: Since you've been pregnant before they say that's common, that you'd pop early. But this is my first time, so I shouldn't be, haha.

@mrsmoreau: When we couldn't get pregnant that was all I kept thinking, "I don't care if it's a boy or girl, I just want a baby." So really that is all I'm concerned with, but being a girly girl myself a girl would be pretty fun and exciting. However I always wanted an older brother, so it makes me cool with that too. Either way we're elated to bring a baby into this world, when we thought it may never happen. PS: I loved that you didn't think you wanted a boy until you heard it was one. Crazy!

@MamaMagpie: @marionberry: @char54: ditto for all your reasons we also plan to opt out of NT scan. There is no reason I'd want to know ahead of time and add that stress to my pregnancy.

@LittleGBee: haha! Glad it wasn't so awkward to scare you off! I really would love to find something like that since all I'm doing to exercise is walking. Still SOOO sad I haven't been cleared to run again.

@MamaMagpie: Hey lady! How's the g/f eating going with m/s? I'm totally sucking at it these days. I have woefully indulged in a cupcake and pastry or two and over the past week and have totally paid the price. Trying to get back on the wagon though!

  13. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@marionberry: that sounds like SO much fun! How can I find her?!

@littlegbee: it's been tough! I've managed to stay mostly on the wagon, but I've definitely been eating a ton more carbs than ever because that's the only thing that sounds appealing these days (and while I'm trying to eat as healthfully as possible, I just don't care about avoiding carbs these days!). I for sure had a few days there were literally the only thing that sounded at all appealing was a toasted bagel and cream cheese -- bagel won! Oddly enough, as I have always had a pretty major sweet tooth, baked goods are not doing it for me these days! But I say, whatever works and stays in your stomach is the way to go until this passes!

@MamaMagpie: Just google "Cheri22 baby psychic". That's what I usually do. It should be the first thing that comes up I think.

Been having some cramping today...sure hope it's my uterus growing. Anyone else get cramping around 9 weeks?

  15. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@marionberry: oh, I am so doing that tonight!!! And also, I'm 9 weeks tomorrow and the other day I had some cramping. When I was at my appointment, the nurse told me cramping was totally normal and meant that the uterus is stretching Some women feel it more or longer into pregnancy than others, too.

  16. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@MamaMagpie: Good to hear. I figured it was normal!

  17. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@marionberry: I had some cramping last week (8 weeks). It's crazy how we feel every little twinge now, right? I am STILL checking my TP after every bathroom visit, lol.

The Dr called and my HCG levels came back perfectly normal. They didn't have me do a second one so I guess he can't tell if they're doubling, but they must have been high enough to correlate with almost 9 weeks. He said to let my OB know on Friday when we go that I'm being treated for strep and that my blood tests should be in the system.

Eeeeepp!! Only 2 more days!! Did anyone else not hear or see anything during this first appointment? It sounds like it's just blood work, forms, meeting with the nurse, quick cervical check by the OB. The phone lady told me *sometimes* they will try to hear the heartbeat or do an ultrasound to see it if it's too early.

I feel like I've waited soooo long already that if I don't get to see/hear something I will be disappointed and more worried. I'm tempted to use my cramping/strep throat/spotting to ask for a quick ultrasound. But the spotting would be a stretch since it was only 2 miniscule drops way back in week 5.

@char54 I was told by my OB that there would be an ultrasound at my first appointment on Friday. Very exciting.

@char54: I didn't hear or see anything at my appointment, but my Dr. wasn't even there (I had a pap in December so I didn't need a check). I would think since you will be seeing your Dr. I would try and sort of push/ask for a doppler or US, maybe it will help?

@marionberry: I have continued to have pretty regular cramping, at 8 weeks, the Dr's office said it was normal.

  23. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@char54: @mrsstormy: Thanks for the reassurance guys. Once again I had a lot of cramping last night for about 10 minutes until I fell asleep. I keep reminding myself that it's normal and that I have large cysts on my ovaries (thank you Clomid) that my RE said I would continue to feel until they went away on their own. I will feel much better after our ultrasound next week. They always give me reassurance when I still done "feel" pregnant.

  24. Meltini

    apricot / 495 posts

I cramp a lot. At least once a week I have either cramps or lower back aches. I didn't really talk to my doctor about it because google and pregnant friends have all assured me it is normal. I will say that prior to my first ultrasound I was nervous that so much cramping meant ectopic pregnancy but the little bean was right where it was suppose to be so now I don't stress about it. The first ultrasound is fantastic for calming irrational fears!

Also, @char54: my first appointment was BORING. I went in, filled out some paperwork, peed in a cup, had a pap/pelvic exam, they took a ton of blood and that was it. I went back 2 weeks later to do the ultrasound and answer all the genetic questions (also to actually talk with my doc since he was out delivering a baby during my first appt). Don't be surprised if they don't offer to do one. My doc only does them at the first appt if there is a serious concern. Definitely ask for one if it will make you feel better though, it was a huge relief for me.

Has anyone gone officially public? I'm horrible at secret keeping, and the DH is dying to tell, so I'm playing with the idea of if tomorrow's u/s is great, going Facebook public around 9 weeks...

@runnerd: we are struggling with this too...we have both told a few random people and its getting harder to control. Our families are so eager to tell...I think that if all goes well at our apt Friday we will announce at 9 weeks to the world!

@char54: it's such a hard decision! But I think I've finally decided I want to be in the "celebrate life" camp instead "protect myself in case of worse outcome"

@char54: @runnerd: I announced to the world at 8 weeks. maybe i DID throw caution to the wind, but i'm with you runnerd. celebrating it is better than worrying about what might happen. I figured if something DOES happen, then at least I won't have to explain away/make excuses as to why I am upset, etc.

@runnerd: Have you announced at work? This is why we are currently keeping it off facebook. I have an appt 3/7 and if everything looks good, I'll tell work and then FB. My parents are both dying to put it on facebook and my MIL wants to tell the world.

I don't plan to announce for another month. I am very confident that everything is fine with the baby but I just don't feel ready to tell everyone. The only people who know right now are our immediate families.

  32. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@runnerd: @char54: @jetsa: I think we're probably going to announce after our ultrasound next week. I'll be 10w, so really only 2 away from the end of the first trimester. Many people at work know or we're telling occasionally and while we may not announce it via email or FB right away, if someone asks me or if I feel like I want to tell someone I'm going to. I just want to share our joy with the world and stop thinking about the "what if's". Plus I read on FF today that at 9 weeks my baby's placenta is already producing progesterone, so there should be very little MC risk.

  33. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@runnerd: Well that works, I'm only friends with 1 coworker but this is a small town so facts/rumors fly like crazy once everyone knows. It'd only be a matter of time if I put it on facebook for a friend of a friend to tell my boss lol. I actually got questioned at lunch today do you know XYZ from your hometown?

  34. MrsStormy

    clementine / 818 posts

@runnerd: Well I told one coworker/friend yesterday after being confronted by the other one, so that makes 3 coworkers who know, and both my family and DH's family know. We will probably start making it public after our first ultrasound which will be at 11 weeks, honestly I think we would have told friends earlier if we had an ultrasound (or even heard the heart beat), but that's what is holding me back. I love the idea of celebrating life! I think you've had several very good appointments so that's extra hope that things will go great the whole time, that said, if you want to share, go for it!

Just got home from our first appointment! Everything was perfect! The heart rate was 171 and everything measured as it should be at this point. My due date has been changed to the 22nd. I will update the list! I'm so happy!!!!!!

We've told our parents and a few close friends. But we are terrible at keeping secrets. I work at a small, tight-knit school so I've already told a few coworkers. Now that I've seen the heartbeat, I plan on telling my principle this week and a few more friends and family, but I wont make an official announcement for a few more weeks. I have parent teacher conferences at the end of the month, which means I will have 12 hour workdays on a weds and thurs. I'm having a hard time getting through one normal day, let alone two extra long days. I was considering taking that Friday off and when my doctor wanted to schedule my next appointment that week, I figured that's a good excuse to take the day off. I'll tell my principle so she doesn't think I'm a slacker!
