@marionberry: you're not alone in worrying before your appointments, my first scan is tomorrow and I'm part excite part terrified...

@char54: Cancun is great, I second @marionberry suggestion on the day-trips; we did both those and they were well worth it! Have a great time

How are y'all doing on the eating don'ts??

This weekend I had: Brie cheese, queso, soft serve ice cream, and a latte. Yikes!! I'm ok with breaking the rules some but wish I hadn't done so many in two days!

  3. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@runnerd: this time around I actually kind of forgot about all of the eating "don'ts" (i also lent my what to expect book to the same girl who vanished with all of my stuff!)
So I've been eating whatever I want, whenever I want. I also have slipped up and am drinking 2 cups of coffee per day... I'm sorry, but there is just no way 1 cup will cut it with having to chase a 2 year old all over every day.
I figure, if your body is used to disgesting it, then you should be pretty safe. My doctor actually didn't mention any of those "rules". He's pretty laid back about the whole pregnancy thing actually.

@marionberry: @evenstar982: thanks for the trip advice!! Another blizzard is on its way here tonight and I am getting sick of the snow. Can't wait for some sun!

@runnerd: I may or may not have sneaked a teeny tiny (okay, maybe medium-sized) bit of cookie dough this weekend I've been feeling guilty about it ever since. but OMG it was good.

I've also been drinking more Coke than I would like....probably 2-3 a week. I don't know why I'm craving it more than usual!!

@runnerd: I am keeping my caffeine under 200 mg/day so I figure if I want a latte I'm going to drink that and that's it but coffee is one of my aversions so... I've been drinking a soda a day. My biggest is lunch meat, I will eat it but it seems like I want it all the time and ugh. Also I'm ignoring the soft cheeses rule because I've read that most cheeses in the US are pasteurized anyway. Someone mentioned on another thread that ceaser salad is a no, why? I definitely had one Saturday, oops.

@char54: ugh! oops forgot that - I also did that this weekend lol

@evenstar982: I hope we both get great news tomorrow!

@runnerd: I eat soft serve a lot and was tempted to eat a hot dog the other day but held out. I also had a lot of thin mint cookies (which worries me a bit on the chocolate/caffeine side). I think this baby craves sugar too, and I need to be much better about lowering the amount I eat.

@jetsa: Why caesar salad? That's weird. If you find out, let me know.

Oh I am freaking out because I've been using alcohol included mouthwash the whole pregnancy. Idk why I hadn't thought to switch. Oops.

@marionberry: OMG! Are hot dogs not allowed either? I RARELY eat them but somehow had two last week cause of sporting events. I suck at this - good thing the eating no no's doesn't stress me out too much

  11. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@runnerd: As my mom pointed out to me recently, if you ate it before you got pregnant and never got sick, you're very unlikely to get sick from it now. She used to feed us kids raw hot dogs all the time when we were little and I ate cookie dough or brownie mix like crazy with raw eggs in it growing up. I think I'm not really worried about these things (like if I eat them, oh well) but do try to reduce how often I eat them just to be safe. Back in the day people didn't have books to tell them what not to eat and most people turned out normal, not to mention all of those people in Europe who drink and smoke like lushes while pregnant.

I've heard it's just homemade caesar dressings that are off limits - store bought stuff uses pasteurized eggs which is fine?

  13. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@char54: Makes sense..I guess just be careful at a restaurant. Most of those would be homemade I'd think?

  14. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@runnerd: I looked up hotdogs a few weeks ago and its the same as lunch meat as long as they are heated they are fine.

@marionberry: @char54: I don't know if they'd be technically homemade or not because I can't see restaurants being able to serve raw eggs and like with the cheeses almost everything in the US has to be pasteurized now. I had mine at applebees.

  15. mlm2934

@jetsa: @marionberry: I've read that nicer restaurants are more likely to be an issue because of making the dressing from scratch

I'm so excited!! My 2/28 u/s is at 9w3d so I've been looking up u/s videos on youtube for that time and most of them you can see the babies arms and legs wiggling all around!! So fun!

@marionberry: yours is tomorrow right? exciting!

  17. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@runnerd: Yes I'm so nervous. Keep worrying I'll get there and my baby won't have a hb or anything anymore. I know it's very unlikely (.5%) but you can't help but worry a little. I can't wait to hopefully see a jumping little baby in there.

@marionberry: @runnerd: I'm so jealous!! I have to wait another 4 weeks to hear the heartbeat again, and will get my one and only peak at the baby at 20 week ultrasound.

Good luck tomorrow!! I'm sure everything will go splendidly

@runnerd: That was such a great idea! Seeing that video made me so excited to see our little baby move around.

@char54: I'm sorry hun. That does really suck. I guess this is the only perk of infertility...lots of extra u/s's.

@marionberry: Appointment buddies! I hope yours tomorrow goes smoothly!

My nausea has been downright awful today. And I went grocery shopping with a whiney 14 month old today, filled up the cart with groceries for the week, checked out, only to realize that debit card and checkbook weren't in my wallet. I cried big tears in the car when I realized that I STILL had no food to bring home and that I would have to repeat the whole process tomorrow. I'm choking down take-out right now. I'm sure it will be comical in a week or so....or, not.

  21. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@LittleGBee: Good luck at your appointment too! I haven't really had ms but was totally nauseous any time I needed to eat today. Not sure what that means, but I'm not a fan.

    grapefruit / 4311 posts

@char54: I hate circumstances for having early u/s but I would have got crazy without that reassurance, so it was a hidden blessing! Feel for you!!

@marionberry: your appt will go great! worry is natural! I start worrying again 24 hours after every doctor appt

@LittleGBee: ooo I've done that before its the worst feeling!!

@LittleGBee: @marionberry: all my complaining about no m/s yesterday and now I have had uneasy stomach feeling the past two days - wondering if its the beginning of somethjng

@runnerd: I read in the ninth week the placenta starts making progesterone itself and I asked DH today if that could be what's now making me feel sick. Of course he doesn't know.

Good luck at your appointments tomorrow @marionberry and @littlegbee!

I have been so, so sick since about week 6 and so basically anything I can keep down is good -- even if its ramen noodles with all the sodium! Or a sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich from Starbucks! I haven't had any caffeine in about a month, either, because I don't think it'll do so well in my tummy. I have even lost about 5 pounds in the last month So I definitely have been worried about getting enough nutrients, and about eating the "no no" foods, but again I just figure that something is better than nothing, right?

  27. LittleGBee

    apricot / 319 posts

@MamaMagpie: Thanks! Sorry you've been feeling so crummy. You just need to eat what works, try to stomach the prenatals, and eat healthy when your nausea allows. You're doing the best you can.

  28. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@MamaMagpie: Oh no! I hope you're feeling better soon Anything you can get down at the point is good, IMO!

I called the OBS clinic today about the spotting after intercourse...it was so minute that really I shouldn't worry, but I just wanted confirmation from them that it was okay. The nurse was asking the doctor and they were going to call me back and let me know whether I have to go in today or not. Luckily I'm off work thanks to an impending storm so I can go in any time, but DH works about 45 minutes away and I feel silly asking him to come back for this.

Just staring at the phone now waiting for the Dr to call....I feel like I'm back in 8th grade waiting for my first boyfriend to ring!! lol!

@MamaMagpie: aww sorry! yea food rules def go out the window when m/s is in full force so no feeling guilty! hope you start to feel better soon!

@char54: I asked my dr about this at my first appt and she said it was completely normal. Its due to your cervix being extra sensitive due to the pregnancy.

@MamaMagpie: I'm sorry you are so sick!

I spent last night in urgent care, I had some pain between my boobs and belly button and DH said we better be safe than sorry, a prescription for zantac later and we were headed home.

  31. Charm54

    cantaloupe / 6885 posts

@jetsa: thanks - that makes me feel better! The nurse called and said the doctor wanted to see me so I'm just in the waiting room waiting for them to call me in. I'm such a worrier.

@char54: maybe you'll get an early ultrasound out of it and it'll be worth it! That's what happened with me cause my doc is super proactive.

I'm so behind! Sorry, I'll try and hit everything!

I'm so nervous about being super pregnant in summer, it gets really hot here but it is what it is.

I would totally not worry about not having MS, I've known many people who didn't have it, I actually thought I wouldn't haven't it (wishful thinking I guess) since my mom didn't, but I have had an uneasy stomach since about 6 weeks, it have gotten worse since probably 8.5weeks. I actually had what will hopefully be one of my most embarrassing pregnancy moments this weekend, I was feeling awful on Saturday, the worst I had felt but I knew I needed to eat and since I hadn't thrown up or anything with MS I figured I'd be fine (plus my Dr. said actually throwing up is no super common but feeling yucky is common) so DH and I went through a drive thru and I got so sick I had to get out of the car as he was ordering and throw up, it was awful

@char54: You are going to have an awesome time on your baby moons, I'm so jealous, DH and I love Cancun, I've heard that resort is nice, I think its really new. Also good luck at your appointment, I'm sure everything will be just fine!

@runnerd: I haven't been following much of the food rules... I'm horrible, but my Dr's office said they really don't tell patients to restrict food, they encouraged me to eat anything that sounds good/ that I can keep down, and just reminded me to be healthy, so I'm mostly going with that. They even told me I could have sushi if I wanted (everything in moderation obviously) but that it would probably make me not feel good since its very rich. So I have had deli meats, on a toasted sandwich but not steaming, I have had soft cheeses, soft serve/ yogurt, seafood, bagged salad, and a little caffeine, I think thats it (at least that I know of).

Thanks ladies for all your positive thoughts...they worked! Everything seems to be great.

I had a resident doctor who was either inexperienced or nervous or something. She inserted the cervical clamp (or whatever that is) and was silent for like 5 minutes. I started worry and finally asked if everything was okay. I was sure she was about to deliver me bad news but she just goes "Oh I can't find your cervix that's all. I'm still looking." After another 3 minutes of lots of pushing and poking and prodding..."oh! There it is!" then she can't get the thing OUT! "This happened to me last patient too, the clamp got stuck. Weird!" I could feel her arms shaking as she tried to close the clamp. This was sooo painful and I was worried she was going to hurt the baby (crazy I know).

Then she said "well I'll just check with the doctor and make sure she doesn't want to do anything else but it looks okay." I asked her if she was going to listen for the heartbeat like she siad she would initially. "Oh! I forgot about that!" lol. She couldn't find it so after a while she went to get the REAL doctor who found it in like 5 seconds.

Anywho, long story short - the doctor thinks that I'm farther along than 9 weeks since the heartbeat is so clear and easy to hear so she's sending me for a dating ultrasound tomorrow (yay!) even though I told her I'm positive about my dates.

I guess if the doctor's biggest concern is that the heartbeat is so strong I'm farther along than I think I can call today a good day!! Feeling so much better - thanks girls for your well wishes, they calmed me down when I was reading them in the waiting room!

@LittleGBee: @marionberry: Hope your appointments went well - just got back from mine; everything looks good - LO was very cooperative and gave us a lovely profile view and a wave for the camera! My dates have been adjusted though so they weren't able to do the nuchal scan today so I have to go back on 6 March for that - yay, bonus scan! will update the due date and appointment list a bit later when I'm not on my phone. Hope you ladies get on ok too xxx

I'm late to the no-no foods conversation but my doctor is super laid back. I can't eat raw or rare meat (or fish), I can only have large, warm water fish once a month, and I have to be cautious of importated cheese. Everything else is fine. He actually told me to eat as much lunch meat as I want.

@Meltini: I had already decided I was going to ask my dr about lunch meat and what the risk is but now I definitely am. I miss my lunch meat, lol.
