@Mrs squirreld: i go back and forth on boy/girl. but i refer to the baby as a "she".
my stepson (10 yrs old) was chanting "it's a girl!" all weekend hoping to jinx it. he really wants another brother LOL

anyone working on names yet? i know it's a bit early, but we have a boy's name already picked out, and i am close to 90% sure I've landed on a girl's name. but a lot can change over then next 5 or 6 months!

@mrsmoreau: yep we pretty much have our boy and girl names picked out, but like you said our minds might change

@marionberry: @Mrs squirreld: @char54: My extended family thinks the rules are crazy and I should do whatever I want. My husband is a bit more conservative, he won't let me paint or lift anything heavy, but as far as what to eat what not to eat I've not been worrying about them.

@marionberry: I don't think theres any reason I shouldn't be able to go but hubby wants the midwifes ok so I agreed to that. This is the brand new course in our area: http://www.shawneezip.com/ and I've never been so I think it will be great to do before baby.

@Mrs squirreld: The changing station is so cute! We haven't bought furniture yet but we've bought a lot of cloth diapers and a lot of newborn clothes.

@mrsmoreau: Your appt is so close and I'm jealous of the movement you're feeling, I'm 15 weeks so I hope it will be soon! We have names for both a boy and girl. We chose family names. We are missing a boy middle name but its my husbands choice

@jetsa: oh my cloth diaper stash is out of control.... Lol I'll definatley be well prepared!

@Mrs squirreld: ha mine too. My husbands like don't buy anymore so we can get some as gifts at the shower!

@mrsmoreau: We almost 100% have our boy and girl names picked. I'm so jealous you feel movement. I hope many of us aren't far behind you. Is yours like a flutter?
@mrssquirreld: great deal! I'm sure it'll look amazing when you're done with it.

  9. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@marionberry: yes, it's a flutter - now getting a bit more - intense, i would say (when i bend down and life up my knee to tie my shoes, for instance, the baby kind of spazzes out like i'm squishing it!)

the way i would describe the feeling is similar to when you get a twitch in your eyelid - but it's in your uterus. not sure if that makes sense to anyone haha.

i felt DS move at 12 weeks so maybe that means this baby will be more laid-back than he is!

  10. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@mrsmoreau: or maybe the girl you're wanting?! That totally makes sense about the flutters. Thanks.

I asked my doc about all those rules (lunchmeat, soft serve, etc), he pretty much said they are all ridiculous and I can eat whatever I want as long as meat is cooked medium rare or more and I can only have large warm water fish once a month. He is very laid back which is great because it has helped my husband be laid back.

  12. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@Meltini: my doc is also laid-back. i have not really been sticking to any rules other than no diet soda. i even have a small glass of red wine every once in a while.

so just telling this story in case this happens to anyone else....I was on the train this morning into work and all of a sudden my chest got really tight and I felt like I couldn't breath (I have never had a anxiety attack but I would imagine it felt like one would feel like). Anyways, I called the doctor and was told is was most likely the result of me eating a Special K bar first thing in the morning which is made up of mostly carbs and sugar. Your sugar spikes and then comes right back down and that is what will cause you to feel dizzy or light headed and have anxiety like symptoms. So basically I need to eat something with protein right away in the morning to avoid this.

Just letting you guys know if you ever get this feeling (obviously you should call your doctor also) but the nurse assured me it was just an issue of eating differently.

  14. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@MrsClownfish: Thanks! Haven't had that issue yet, but it's a good point to be aware of.

AFM, I'm totally enduring a rash on my belly, chest and forearms right now (which totally sucks because you're not supposed to get anything like this until the 3rd trimester). My doctor doesn't seemed concern because the dots are pretty light, but they itch. I really hope none of you have to deal with this. Extremely annoying!

  15. duckduckkristen

    clementine / 959 posts

@MrsClownfish: scary! Could it have been heartburn? I know when I first started getting heartburn it felt just like you are describing, but then I would force myself to burp and it would go away. Lol. I always eat eggs and hash browns or Greek yogurt for breakfast. (Or sometimes nachos - salsa counts as a veggie, right?)

During my first pregnancy I followed all the food rules, but this time around I'm not concerned. I ate turkey sandwiches the whole first trimester and now I'm desperate for some smoked salmon, so I'll probably give in to that too! From everything I've read the chances of anything happening are so slim! I probably wouldn't eat raw meat or anything, but I'm not too worried about sandwiches and soft serve!

I've been feeling flutters since 11 weeks this time (crazy! Last time didn't feel anything til 15 weeks) and just started feeling actual kicks a few nights ago (I'm 17.5 weeks). I looked back at my notes from last pregnancy and DH was able to feel kicks at 22 weeks, so not too far away now!

We have our anatomy scan next week. So excited to find out what we are having so we can start discussing names and figure out if we need to buy new baby clothes.

  16. MrsClownfish

    cherry / 199 posts

@duckduckkristen I usually feel heartburn more by my sternum, this was like a tightness in my whole chest and it felt like it was making it hard for me to breath.

No flutters for me yet. I am 15 weeks today. Hoping for some too. I don't think I look noticeably pregnant yet either. Still just chubby.

  17. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@duckduckkristen: That's so awesome that you can feel flutters and kicks already and so early! I've heard in second pregnancies you can usually feel all of that so much sooner.

@mrsclownfish: I officially look pregnant I think. People have started mentioning my small bump, so I think I'm about to start wearing maternity clothes nonstop. They're so much more comfortable anyway.

Sorry, I've been MIA for a while, I was at a work conference and didn't have consistent access to internet. I am pages behind so I will try and catch up today! Hope everyone's doing great!

  19. MrsStormy

    clementine / 818 posts

Okay I think I'm caught up....

@MrsClownfish: I had 2 near fainting episodes this past weekend, it was so scary! Sat I was at the mall and I think I just needed to eat something but all of a sudden I just got very lightheaded and dizzy, I had to get something to eat and sit down for a little while. Then on Monday I took a shower and bent over to condition my hair, and I started seeing spots and feeling really awful, I think my shower was just too hot, I had to turn it to totally cold rinse my hair and get out of the shower asap. I read that if you start to feel like this you should lay on your left side if you can lay down, or put your head between your knees if you are sitting. I've read it can be caused by blood sugar, blood pressure, and dehydration, but it is so scary!

My tummy is definitely bumping lately, I think it popped some last week. I haven't had anyone ask me about being pregnant yet, which is a bit of a bummer since that means I just look chubby, but whatever, the important people know my belly is still deep and no linea negra yet. I am still feeling sick though, in fact its been a rough 2 days or so, I'm really hoping that passes soon!

DH and I have officially decided we are sticking with team green, so I'm very excited about that, I made a plan for the nursery too, so I'm getting excited. However we do both think it is probably a girl, but for no real reason other than just a feeling (and my awful acne). So excited for you girls who found out you are having boys, thats so exciting!

Sorry for the book, I guess I had a lot of pent up stuff I wanted to say last week!

  20. mrsmoreau

    apricot / 251 posts

@MrsStormy: scary about the fainting episodes... i have had a lot of dizziness myself.
Also, not to burst your gender-prediction bubble, but I had awful acne all over my face and body when I was pregnant with DS.... soo.....I don't put a lot of stock into the old wive's tale predictors.

  21. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@mrsmoreau: @MrsStormy: darn! Everyone is predicting this baby is a boy and I was using the acne one to convince myself its a girl! Lol, they are about 50/50 right now though!

  22. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

I added a topic to our board with old wives tales I found online and thought it'd be fun for people to fill out before they find out the gender! We are getting so close for all those that are finding out! =)

I was away visiting family over Easter for 5 days and there is so much to catch up on!

@MamaMagpie: @Bisou7585: congrats on your boys! Can't believe our group are starting to find out gender already!

@MrsStormy: @MrsClownfish: I hope you are both feeling much better now.

So we finally got to tell the remainder of close family in person and then a couple of days ago we shared with the world on Facebook! Everyone is very excited for us, it was so fun seeing their reactions!

My bump seems to have really popped this last week and I look and feel noticeably pregnant. So glad I got the maternity clothes last week in preparation! No movement yet, though based on what others have described I could well have felt something but just missed it or put it down to another random cramp or twinge down there.

  24. jetsa

    grapefruit / 4663 posts

@illumina: Yes, I keep thinking every twinge must be movement now!

  25. illumina

    pomelo / 5469 posts

@jetsa: I try and lay really still on my back at night to see if I can feel anything and then DH will roll over and move me or something and I'll have to start again! Or I just fall asleep before I feel anything!

  26. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@illumina: I keep doing this, too! It's actually turned into a good way for me to fall asleep, which is great because I've been having some trouble with that I do think I *may* have felt something yesterday, though -- I bent down a funny way and immediately felt a little whap-whap-whap in there! I'm not sure it wasn't just a gas bubble, so I'm not officially saying I felt my first movements, but if it happens again I will know for sure!

  27. MamaMagpie

    persimmon / 1436 posts

@mrsstormy: @mrsclownfish: that's so scary about feeling so lightheaded! I hope that doesn't continue It's kind of crazy to think about what our bodies actually go through during this time and how it can be both completely awe-inspiring and scary!

@illumina: Thanks I am feeling much better, this has been my first no sick at all day in a while, so hopefully things are looking up!

@MamaMagpie: It was so scary. The more info I got though, the more sense it started to make, I always have had low blood pressure, and I guess it gets lower during pregnancy, so that could do some weird things to ya! Pregnancy is so strange!
