I love the snoogle! I have always a stomach sleeper but I have slept great on my side with my snoogle. I highly recommend it.
Now that people are starting to find out the gender, I am getting anxious! I have an appt on Thursday and I'm sure at that appt we will set up the day and time for our anatomy scan. I can't wait!

@Mrs squirreld: Good for you for getting all of your furniture! We haven't gotten much yet.
@Jetsa: I've looked and have picked out two photographers that would work great when the time comes, but I agree that they cost a lot! I have a friend who did wedding photography and I might at least see if he'll take my maternity photos. I don't think he'd charge me much.

@mrsmoreau: Do you have any recommendations for how many clothes to buy? I've seen some people say they're only getting like 8 onesies and that's it for their newborns, and others who say onesies, pjs, sleep sacks, pants, etc for their newborns, and so on and so forth. How much clothing would you recommend for each stage?
apricot / 251 posts
@marionberry: oh boy, that's a tough question. a lot of the time it depends on the baby, how often you are willing to do laundry, how much out-and-about-ing you will be doing with baby, etc.
in my experience, we had a bunch of "sleep n plays" that DS lived in as a newborn. he would go through 2 or 3 in a day, due to spitting up, exploding diapers, etc. of course my DS has never been a tidy baby lol. we probably had about 12 sleep n plays.
he had about 4 pairs of pants. and from what i remember, he had probably 10 onesies - long and short sleeved.
of course he had hats, and a cold-weather suit for going out (he was born in February).
he HATED sleepsacks and swaddling suits so i never used them.. although i did find that nightgowns were nice for breastfeeding - i was able to reach up under his nightgown and put my hand on his back while I was feeding him - it was nice to have that extra skin-to-skin contact.
is this helping in any way? haha i feel like i am just rambling - but honestly, it's difficult to remember. i haven't tackled the task of sorting the boxes of his old clothes yet

@mrsmoreau: Super helpful! We've been picking cute things up here and there in random sizes but now I feel like I need to start getting the things we'll really need and want to be sure I have an idea of what that might be. Thanks!

@jetsa: this is where my profession comes in handy! Will do most of our newborn shots myself although DH is still adamant about getting some more so I can be in them, so we'll see! Undecided about maternity still.
@mrsmoreau: thanks for the numbers! It's sooo hard to work out what we'll need!
My boppy also arrived today and DH has been laughing at me cause I've pretty much spent hours in my new glider with my boppy and a book! It's so comfy!!
We are going woodlands in our nursery regardless of the sex, using blue, greens, browns with pops of orange. Wish I could start setting up properly but we still don't know if we'll be moving before yet or not!
pomelo / 5469 posts
@jetsa: I brought this up with DH a few weeks ago, totally thinking he'd say no straight away and I'd have a bit of convincing to do, but he agreed!! We loved our pre-wedding shoot and wedding photos so much that we're looking forward to documenting maternity/baby photos in the same way. Compared to wedding/engagement shoots, they are surprisingly cheap. I found a package for £75 and you get pregnancy, newborn, 3, 6 and 12mth shots. I'll probably get the bump shots done around 30wks.
@mrsmoreau: thanks for the recs! I've started buying a few 0-3mth and 3-6mth items for our girl now but will probably wait until nearer the time to get anything else to see if people want to gift her any clothes. I figure she may get newborn/0-3mth as gifts for birth and then 3-6mth gifts at Xmas, which won't be far off!
If this is a silly question, I apologise, but I still need to know... how long do babies stay in onesies for and when do they start wearing clothes- like dresses, jeans etc.? Whilst looking for clothes yesterday, it surprised me that the proper clothes started from 1mth.
@Mrs squirreld: love your glider and your nursery plans sound fabulous! You are planning to find out gender in a few weeks though right?
nectarine / 2522 posts
@illumina: yep we definately are!! If its a girl, we'll steer more towards birds and butterfly woodlands and if its a boy more moose and owl woodlands and both will have squirrels regardless lol
apricot / 251 posts
@illumina: you can dress your baby in anything from day one - onesies are just easier when they are very little, since they soil their clothing more often. but I bought some cute outfits for the baby already - my preference is to start her wearing "real clothes" at 3 months. (especially since it will be christmas time)
DS still wears onesies and he is 2 years old!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@illumina: Everything thing I've found over here is, newborn, 3, 6, 9, 12 and for digital proofs I'm looking at about $2000. My wedding photog who I love quoted my $800 for maternity and newborn.
@Mrs squirreld: I'm so jealous, I have a nikon d5000 but I'm scared of it and don't really know how to use it very well.
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@illumina: @marionberry: I bought a lot of 25 newborn and 0-3 months items on ebay for $36. Its mostly sleep and plays but does have some mittens, hats, outfits and I figure it should last us until we feel like going out (or ordering online) other clothes, since we don't know the gender this made it easier for me.
pomelo / 5469 posts
@mrsmoreau: thankyou- good to know. I think that's kind of my line of thinking as well. I didn't give it any thought until yesterday... do babies only wear long sleeve/long leg onesies during winter? I came home with some 0-3mth short sleeve/no leg onesies yesterday and then it occurred to me that it might not be warm enough over here for them.
@jetsa: ok we wouldn't be getting them done if they were that price! I get the impression maternity/newborn photos are not all that popular over here yet, which might account for the low price compared to wedding photos.
apricot / 251 posts
@illumina: you should always dress your baby in one more layer of clothing that what you are wearing. that's my rule of thumb anyway. so she can wear short sleeves, just pop a cardi over top, and some leggings

Is anyone else starving all the time now? I just can't seem to get full, or if I am I'll be hungry again in an hour!
apricot / 495 posts
@jetsa: Ugh yes! I am pretty much always hungry but I can't seem to eat as much at one time (probably a good thing).
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@Mrs squirreld: Love my Snoogle. I was getting sore from pressure points on my hips before but now I'm sleeping a lot better.
@jetsa: In the first trimester I couldn't eat much at once because I'd be sick, so I ate frequent small meals. Now in the 2nd tri I get full faster than "usual" so I'm still eating frequent small meals. So yes, it seems like I'm always hungry and always eating lol

I finally popped last week (at 15 wks) and went shopping for maternity clothes with my Mom yesterday. I want to wear maternity pants for the rest of my life. These are so darn comfy.
grape / 98 posts
@mrs squirreled I try to dress DD in really comfy clothes. When she was tiny and spending most of her time lying on her front or back I tried to be conscious of poorly placed zippers, hoods, etc that might make kiddo uncomfortable. I also tried to avoid snug waist bands.
DD is a bit of a chunk now at 18 months so for the most part she doesn't wear jeans as they seem to rigid and snug. She spends most of her time in leggings, jeggings, dresses and tunics.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@jetsa: I am alllwaysss hungry!! I have to have food nearby or I get nauseous and crabby, lol.
@MapleMoose: Aren't maternity pants the best???!! I told DH I'm never going back to regular pants again
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: Just curious - did cheri22 tell you boy or girl in your reading??
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: She told me girl in her reading, so apparently she was wrong. She was super right about when we'd get pregnant though. Since the tech didn't get a good view of baby's man parts DH keeps swearing it could still be a girl, lol.
On a side note, I have been STRESSING out over where we're going to live when this baby is born and today we finally found the house we're going to rent! We sign papers tomorrow. Where we live very few go up for rent and you have to basically be the first to find them. I am SO excited! We move in early June.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: YAY!! How exciting! June is the perfect time, you will have all summer to prepare. We only move into our house August 20th and it will be a FAST move to be ready for baby, lol.
Cheri22 told me boy so I'm really curious to see if she's right! She was right on with our birth month. I think that's why I'm feeling boy, DH thinks I'm nuts!!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: Oh man, August will make it a quick move. But I'm sure you'll have it covered. As long as you've bought everything you need, it will be super easy to set up. Just don't go into early labor! I was really believing Cheri too because the things she said about my daughter were spot on (some things you just couldn't magically make up) but who knows, maybe she's thinking about my second kid, lol. I hope you get what you want. If you get a boy then I'll have another person to talk to about raising boys which is awesome!!
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@marionberry: haha- I don't even know what I want! I had thought forever I wanted a girl (I'm one of 4 girls), but lately the idea of a boy is really enticing. I love our boy name (my maiden name) and it would be awesome to get to use it. Only 5 more months until we find out, lol !
pomelo / 5041 posts
@char54: Oh you're team green?! That is going to be quite the wait! I was the same way about wanting a girl because I was one of 3 girls, but since finding out I'm having a boy I'm actually really really excited about it. It's cool that you're using your maiden name for your son's name. That's what my friend did for her daughter's name.
grapefruit / 4213 posts
@marionberry: Awesome! We're still searching for a house. Our weekends are speckled with open houses and private viewings but we're still waiting for the so-called "spring market" to arrive. Our realtor keeps assuring us that there will be a large inventory of homes coming on the market soon. I'm getting impatient!
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MapleMoose: I've heard the buying market is really rough right now and that houses are going in a day when they come available. I'm sure you'll find one though...at least we still have 4 months before you should be concerned about not having one. FX for you! I'm sure you'll find an amazing one. We're still saving up money to buy, so we're just renting a house, but this is one that we can comfortably live in for a year or more until we're ready to purchase. And the payment is higher than what a house payment would be, so the good news is that when we finally do buy it should actually save us money.
clementine / 818 posts
@marionberry: Congrats on finding a house! House hunting (whether buying or renting) is super stressful!

I looked into ordering my breast pump today through my husbands insurance and they won't place the order until the baby is born so thats lovely.
apricot / 251 posts
@jetsa: wow, how very helpful! OR NOT. that is ridiculous. i can understand waiting until 36 weeks (in case of a loss) but waiting till birth is a bit extreme, especially since insurance companies are notorious for taking forever to sign off on things. ugh.
perhaps you should buy a smaller, cheaper one for the waiting period?
pomelo / 5041 posts
@jetsa: Our insurance does the same thing. I think you can purchase it yourself though and be reimbursed the cost after you have the baby, if that interests you.
@mrsstormy: Yes it's been such a stressful process. We drive 2 hours to sign the lease papers tonight (their main office is far away) and then we should be good to go!
grapefruit / 4663 posts
@marionberry: I don't think that will work with mine. I read online that retail purchases will not be reimbursed. I have to go through edgepark medical supply.
@mrsmoreau: I will probably have to do something like this, I'm going back to work after 8 weeks.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@jetsa: I'd at least call the medical distributor and see if you can buy it from them so that it can be reimbursed or call your insurance and ask if that's a possibility. Otherwise I agree with @mrsmoreau that buying a small one for the first few days wouldn't be a bad idea.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
@jetsa: @marionberry: I'm jealous you ladies can get a breast pump from your insurance! I'm going to have to look into that but I've never heard of anyone I know IRL getting one through it.
apricot / 319 posts
@jetsa: I've heard of insurance companies doing this. You might also want to clarify what exact pump they'll consider covering. Some insurances will only cover a manual pump as a way to get around the new law. It's a bummer. You could either buy one and seek reimbursement after the baby is born, or you could plan on renting one through the hospital for the gap time. The rental should be covered by Flex spending if you have it, and you might even be able to seek reimbursement through the insurance. Not exactly things you want to be dealing with when you have a newborn though.

Um, I've been very MIA, sorry ladies. I've been checking back and reading your conversations, but I have been swamped with my husband's job change stuff, keeping on top of insurance/appointments for myself and my daughter, attempting to buy a house, and trying to finish up grad school. There have been many, many tears of overwhelm-ness here lately. I've loved checking back for reveals and updates and I'm looking forward to finding out if this baby is a he or a she on the 25th!

It's so fun to see everyone (who wants to) find out the sex of the baby! I seriously can't believe we are that far along already!
We got our travel system this week! I know its super early, but we got it for a crazy good deal so it was worth having to store it. We seriously don't have anything else though, I really need to start looking at cribs and such for the nursery.
Also I haven't seen it come up in a little while, but who all is feeling the baby? I've had two times where I thought it might have been the baby, but other than that, nothing.
